Keep Looking Up!
Serena frowned a little as she watched Rosie closely, who quickly attempted to wave off the bullying as though it was nothing. But something had happened and she for one did not like it. Rosie insisted it was fine. But there was something about her words that Serena believed otherwise. The denial, the quick backtracking, everything was done well... But there were a few words that stood out from what she said. 'It doesn't matter anymore' means that it mattered at one point in time, clearly not too long ago.
Was Max the reason that Rosie had walked off in the bonfire?
The Indian girl just watched her housemate spitting out words before trying to awkwardly run away. She sighed softly, trying to calm herself down. "Rosie." She said in a firm but soft tone, "If Max - or anyone else, for that matter - hurts you ever again, you can tell me, okay?" Serena was not messing around anymore. She would not stand for her housemates being bullied for months on end, right underneath her watch.
Max was now one of the people she would have to be weary off. But she knew there was always two sides to every story. She could not assume the worst in him without at least hearing out his side. Max, unfortunately, was in a worse off position with Serena now than he had been a few moments prior. He was her friend. This meant she held him to a much higher standard and exception than anyone else. Yes, she would protect him and be loyal to him - but not if he's purposefully hurting people. That's not something she would tolerate. Not from her friends, not from anyone.
She smiled softly at Rosie to show she was not mad at her. At least, it was there for a second before her eyes widened as she saw her housemate fall off the bars. Serena dived forward, trying to catch her but it was moments too late. Quickly hopping down herself, she landed on her feet and offered Rosie a hand. Serena was about to ask her if she was alright but the girl had called out before she had gotten down, "Look after yourself, okay?" She said, still offering her hand with a smile on her face again, "If you need someone to talk to - or to help in any way, I'm here..." She continued, "I'm kind of okay at this whole listening thing." Serena was not a bad listener at all. If she could help Rosie in any way - including if it meant standing up to her own friend - she would do it.
Serena bent down a little, balancing on her toes with bent knees to get onto the same eye level as Rosie, "If you need me, I'm here, okay?" She said softly with a smile before standing up and offering her hand again to help the girl up if she needed it.

Keep Looking Up!

"love is too beautiful to be hidden in a closet."
Rosie despised pity more than anything else in the world.
It just seemed to come naturally when it came to her. It was why she didn't act sad around anyone, she didn't want that damned look. Denial came easy, it was almost a reflex to immediately push away any worry. It was almost unhealthy. But it worked, most of the time. It was most of the time because sometimes, usually her parents, caught it. Maybe it was the tone in Rosie's voice, how it raised higher when she was lying, or her face, which was unfortunately forcing a nervous smile, that gave it all away.
So how did Serena know? Why did she choose to keep pushing?
Rosie didn't have much time to think about that, however, because she was already tumbling off the monkey bars, as previously mentioned. She was only really graceful in her dancing, which took her total focus and concentration. But everywhere else? Well, to put it in other words, there's no way most people would guess she was a ballerina. She rubbed her head and mumbled a few degrading scoldings at herself, opening her eyes to see Serena diving down and offering a hand.
She looked at the taller girl quizzically, her curly hair messed up in front of her eyes. Rosie pushed it out of her field of vision and blinked. Serena started offering support to her. To her. Little did they both know, Rosie had a huge crush on her, and would she still want to help her if she knew? She watched Serena bend on her knees to meet her eyes, and she smiled at her.
God, she's smiling at me.
Rosie's face flushed red. She reached out her shaking hand and took Serena's standing up with her. "Thank you, it means a lot, really." Rosie said softly, before clearing her throat and raising her voice a bit to normal level. "I trust you, Serena. I do. I just... I get this vibe from people, it makes you wanna confide in them. And you.. Uh, you give me that vibe. So I'll trust you." She smiled at her, more confidently this time.
That was, well, until Rosie realized she was still holding Serena's hand.
Oh god. How could she have not realized? She quickly let go of it, laughing nervously. "Geez, sorry. I totally forgot that-- Uh, that was happening. You were talking and I just forgot to let go of your hand." She paused. "Not that it was a bad thing we were holding hands--!" She paused again. "I mean-- Uh--" Rosie paused again to take a deep breath, letting it out. "Sorry, I'm just jumpy, from falling, ya know?" She explained, putting her hands into her pockets. "I'm sorry, god I talk a lot." She laughed, embarrassed.
Bloody hell.

Keep Looking Up!
Serena smiled as she pulled Rosie up, nodding. She blushed a little at the kind words that her fellow Hufflepuff gave her. She was not entirely sure that she deserved such kindness but it made her happy to hear them. It warmed her heart a little to know that someone thought she was trustworthy, someone they could confide in if they needed to and that meant a lot. Grinning at Rosie, "I'm glad you get that vibe from me," Serena replied as she allowed the girl to continue holding her hand. It did not really bother her, to be honest. She laughed a little as the girl started to apologise nervously and waved her now free hand in the air, "It's fine, it's no big deal." She replied. She had not actually thought anything of it until Rosie had mentioned it.
The sun had started to set, painting the sky in a beautiful way. The colours were gorgeous. Serena gazed behind Rosie for a moment, appreciating the beauty of the falling sun and the colours in the sky for a few moments before looking back at Rosie. The girl had just about managed to stop apologising or talking. Serena giggled a little, "You know, you're incredibly cute," She complimented the Hufflepuff, thinking of how sweet and kind Rosie was. She was adorable, her nervousness and clumsiness was just super sweet. It was weird but Serena felt a little protective over her. The girl seemed so innocent and sweet that Serena did not want her to suffer or go through anything bad.
Serena knew firsthand how awful things can be in this school. She sighed softly, not wanting Rosie to experience the same sort of pain and suffering she had in the past year. She truly hoped that Max did not bully this innocent girl - there was really no excuses for it. She would have to find out the truth and if this was happening, put a swift end to it. Making a mental note to watch out for Rosie during the rest of the summer camp - and into the coming year - Serena stepped forward and suddenly embraced the fellow badger, "Don't worry about anything. You don't need to apologise to me for anything either. I'm here if you want to talk, okay? If you're sad, if anything happens, just find me." Serena said in a soft voice, trying to calm the nervous girl. She gently hugged her, before releasing her slightly and placing a friendly kiss on her cheek, "You're not alone, okay?" She said the words that she secretly wished someone said to her before pulling away.
The cheek kiss was no big deal to her either. As a pureblood, her mother made her attend many parties and there were times when you were introduced to other purebloods and had to give 'air' kisses on either side of their cheeks. At times, some people had dropped it actually on her cheek too so it seemed fairly normal at this point in time. It was normal between girls, anyway. Girls did not have cooties that boys had. Ugh.
Stepping away, Serena looked up at the sunset, "We should go before we break curfew..." She said, her Prefect duties starting to kick in as the falling sun meant that curfew was fast approaching, "It was nice to speak to you, Rosie. See you around!" She waved her off, before quickly turning and heading back to her own cabin before Professor Wright came after her for being late. She would have made a bad example of a Prefect if she did not follow the rules herself.
There was something about the sunset, though. It was somewhat comforting. At least, for Serena. She looked up, realising how amazing this world could be... She just had to let go off the past, learn from it and move on. Move on to dreaming about the future - a better future, a happier one and just keep looking up with pride and forward. There was nothing quite like a beautiful sunset to end the day. Serena mused to herself before starting to dash off to get back to the cabin before it got dark. She really did not like the dark. The dark was more terrifying than being alone...

Keep Looking Up!

"love is too beautiful to be hidden in a closet."
It was like all of the tension that had been in the air faded away.
Rosie was relaxed again, and she she was able to talk to Serena like a regular human being. She swallowed a big lump down her throat and shook out her hands a bit to get a hold of herself. She was alright, everything was good. It wasn't like she was in an interrogation of some sort. They were just friends, talking about whatever came to their minds--
Serena called her cute.
The giggle that came out of Serena's mouth only seem to redden Rosie's face more. She was not expecting that, of all things. Serena thought she was cute? That was a first class compliment. A once in a lifetime opportunity. It really wasn't. A nervous laugh slipped it's way through Rosie's lips and she ran a hand through her hair, resting her palm on the back of her head. "Thanks," was all she was able to muster out. It was very sad. Quite pathetic on Rosie's part, if she was being honest with herself. She had always prided herself in being able to speak a lot but not this time. Rosie was practically speechless.
But it didn't stop there, oh no, because Serena wasn't done talking. But honestly, another surprise to add, she wasn't so keen on talking. She liked when Serena talked, it just made her more and more interested in what she had to say. Rosie seemed to always be the talker with most of her friends, but not Serena. She loved listening to whatever she had to say. Rosie lied to herself, saying it was because she was used to it since Serena was previously her prefect and she was used to listening to her, but that wasn't true. In actuality, it was simply just Rosie wanted to. She didn't feel inclined, or pushed. Rosie wanted to know what Serena had to say, because sometimes her words would make Rosie smile wider.
"Really, Serena, I trust you, I promise, I would go to you." Rosie said, a bit surprised when Serena made the movement to hug her. She opened her arms and embraced her while Serena spoke. Of course, Serena was taller, so she just rested her head against her shoulder. While Rosie wasn't as short as Eris, she was still slow on her growing, which was also sad. "I'll be sure to come find you, you've already helped me so much--" Serena kissed her cheek.
Rosie's cheek was kissed.
It was platonic, she knew that, Rosie was used to head kisses from her parents, but that one caught her off guard. "A-" Rosie stuttered, pulling back from the hug when Serena did, her face red as a tomato. "Thank you, Serena." She managed to say, grinning nervously as she stood across from her.
And before Rosie could even respond, Serena had waved and started to walk back to camp. Rosie watched her walk off, dumbfounded. They had went to practically strangers to close friends in the matter of an hour. When she was finally alone, she covered her red face with her hands and giggled. She felt so much better after that conversation. Rosie slung her light bag over her shoulder and also started to walk back to her cabin, a bright smile on her face.
Maybe camp wouldn't be so bad.
Exeunt Rosie. Thread closed.
