It was still light out but the day was definitely coming to an end. After dinner, Serena went back to her cabin to relax a little. This was her time to just sit and process all that had happened in the past few days. Camp certainly involved some long days. The year had been hectic and it was about time for some well deserved break and sleep. As her fellow cabinmates returned, the noise level in the room increased. It wasn't long till she decided to just step out for a bit. Serena left her cabin and made her way outside to the grounds. Her feet walked aimlessly. She had no idea where she was going, she just walked as she allowed her mind to drift off and get lost in thought.

Soon enough, the Hufflepuff girl ended up approaching the Playground that had been set up. It was not too far from the cabins, there was one right next to it in fact. But the playground itself was quiet. Serena blinked as she observed it for a moment. She hadn't seen a playground in a while, to be honest. There was not really many around her house back home. The last one she saw was back years ago, back to elementary school.

Staying true to her name, the young girl climbed up the monkey bars that stood tall. She climbed onto of them before sitting down on the edge, letting her feet hang off the edge as she looked around. The slightly higher altitude - perfect for the Towers in her - gave her the advantage of seeing a lot more than she could before. The sun was still out. It only really went down shortly before curfew, which meant she could stay out until sunset. Perhaps even watch it from this location. That might be quite nice, actually.

Serena turned her body before laying down on top of the monkey bars and staring up into the clouds. It was beautiful. The sky was a lovely shade of blue and there were a few fluffy white clouds dotted around. It looked rather clear and unlikely to rain, which made a change. Smiling softly, Serena closed her eyes and embraced the gentle breeze that flowed in the air. It was very warm, to be honest. She was not used to such heat. The United Kingdom should never be so warm, it was weird. But she appreciated the gentle wind every so often.

Sighing softly, Serena lay with her eyes closed as she fell into thought everything that had happened. She had no idea how her parents would react when she was back home. Nor did she know what to say or do anymore. So much had happened during her first year of Hogwarts. She honestly did not even think she would make it to the second year at some points. She questioned everything, including her position at Hogwarts and whether or not she ought to even be there.

To put it lightly, Rosie hated her cabin.

Well, to be fair, the only reason she hated it was her own fault, but we all know twelve year olds. Specifically, Rosie didn't wanna believe the fact she disliked the cabin so much was only because she wasn't listening. But hey, nobody approaching after Valtome yelled at her kinda sucked too, ya know! Eventually, she had found a place to sleep, but she was already frustrated that she was surrounded by people she didn't know in the slightest. Kids like Eris, or Adam, literally had an entire cabin full of their friends, but not Rosie!

With a sigh, she had ventured out away from the cabin, her eyebrows furrowed to really show how fed up she already was with the potions professor. If she wasn't scared he'd throw a potion of acid down her throat, she would've said a lot of mean things. Like... Like that he was stinky! Or... That he was... A loser! She sighed at her ideas of insults, they were all pretty lame. In the distance, Rosie spotted a playground, and instantly, her eyes lit up and she broke out into a grin. She loved those places. Her grandma used to watch her play around on the swings for hours while she hung out with her other friends. She picked up her pace and ran to the playground, but she nearly stopped in her tracks.

Was that...

Yep, it was no one other than Serena Towers, Rosie's Hufflepuff prefect, laying there on the monkey bars without a care in the world. Rosie let out a tiny squeak and stiffened. Oh no. Not again. What was it about this girl? Why did she make Rosie so nervous? It wasn't in a bad way either, so that's why it was so confusing. She fiddled with her hands and approached the monkey bars slowly. "H-Hello?" She called up, furrowing her eyebrows. Did... Did Rosie just stutter? Her face heat up in a blush and she gripped the money bar ladder handle with one hand. Get a hold of yourself?

Rosie guessed it was because there was a lot to admire Serena for. She had been prefect for as long as Rosie could remember, she was always nice to her house, and she carried this pretty smile whenever she talked to people. Serena was just... Pretty, all around. Not to mention, she's on the Quidditch team too! And she's good at it! Obviously, Rosie couldn't realize it, but...

Rosie had a big fat crush on Serena Towers.

From where she lay, Serena could hear the sound of the gentle breeze around her and the sound of water splashing from perhaps the swimming area or the lake. Most people seemed to be in their cabins now or out in an area that was not here. The playground was eerily quiet. That was, until she heard the sound of someone's voice. It caught her attention for a couple of reasons. There was something familiar about it but she could not recognise whose voice it was and because it sounded uncertain, perhaps nervous. Opening her eyes and turning her head at the sound of the voice, Serena's eyes fell upon a fellow Hufflepuff student. Rosie Parker.

She did not know Rosie all that well but she had seen her around plenty of times during the year. The last time was not long ago, at all. She had seen the girl at the Welcoming Bonfire for a brief moment. "Rosie! Hi!" Serena exclaimed as she sat up immediately, turning carefully so she could sit on the monkey bars. The Prefect let her legs dangle off the edge but was careful to hold onto it with both hands for fear of falling. Grinning at her housemate, "Need a hand up?" she asked her as she motioned for her to join her up on the top of the monkey bars. Rosie Parker was someone that Serena wanted to get to know better. The one thing she knew about the girl was that she was very passionate about Quidditch. And anyone who enjoyed Serena's favourite sport was definitely someone Serena wanted to get to know better. They, at the very least, had that in common.

"Hey, so I wanted to ask you... Are you okay?" Serena asked her curiously, her tone of voice laced with concern and care. She wasn't asking about today, however. The other day at the Bonfire, Rosie had approached Serena and the rest of the group. She had been excited about the camp and seemingly happy. Then all of a sudden, something had switched and she left. Serena did not get a chance to follow her then but she was worried about her and wanted to make sure she was okay. Perhaps someone had done something to her. She did not witness anything but it could have been someone who had previously bullied her, making the girl turn hesitant, "I mean, the other day, at the bonfire... You left very suddenly. I wanted to see if you were okay. Did something happen?" Serena repeated the question, providing a bit more of an explanation for it. She wasted no time jumping right into the main question that had plagued her mind since then. I'm not saying that's all she thought about but it was definitely something Serena recalled every time she had seen Rosie in the distance since the bonfire.

She didn't think too much of her current nervousness. Perhaps the girl was just unsure about disturbing her. There was, of course, absolutely no way Serena would have even guessed the real reason for it.

Wow.

Rosie hesitantly held out her hand to be lifted up to the monkey bars, as if the touch would make her melt entirely, if she didn't already feel hot enough. She pulled herself up and sat down next to Serena, smiling softly. "Hey Serena, thanks for the hand up." She finally said when she got comfortable on the bars, letting her legs dangle off the edge. They were a little... High up, but it was fine. She cleared her throat nervously and crossed her legs carefully.

Oh, she had forgotten about the bonfire. Rosie remembered how crowded it started to get while she was trying to talk to Max and Eris, and also more or less Phaedra, despite not knowing her very well. Serena started to express her concern for Rosie after she dipped from the chaos, and she felt her stomach fill with butterflies. Serena was worried? About her? Without even knowing her? She must be really sweet to do that. Rosie smiled and shook her head. "No worries, I'm good. It just started to become a little.. suffocating, with all those people gathering around. But I'm fine! No need to worry, I ended up meeting this girl named Sabrina and she was really cool and-" She stopped talking, her face flushing. "Sorry... If you couldn't tell by now, I talk... A lot. Maybe too much." She said, laughing a little bit.

Why was Rosie feeling this way? So nervous? So weak? What was up with this girl? She was a normal, breathing, living human being. She wasn't different for anyone else, except that she was. Because somehow, she made Rosie feel a way that she only felt with --

She snapped herself out of it and smiled at Serena, less nervously now. Rosie was good. Everything was good. It was just the two of them. At the monkey bars. Doing their thing.

What could go wrong?

Serena helped pull Rosie up onto the Monkey Bars as best as she could. Obviously, she was not the strongest girl but luckily, Rosie was also tiny. Nodding, she smiled at her fellow Hufflepuff, "No worries." She replied to her thank you as she turned her head to look back out towards the scenery around them, kicking her feet a little in the air. She did not notice the nervousness or anything. In truth, she did not know Rosie well enough to notice anything was different about her. This was perhaps the first time that the pair actually had a chance to talk and get to know each other properly. Serena had seen her around several times though and those fleeting experiences were always positive.

She smiled gently at the girl as she explained what happened at the bonfire. Serena waited for her to do finish explaining before laughing softly and shaking her head, "No no, don't apologise. I talk a lot too. I like it when someone can match me." She replied. Serena always felt like she was talking a lot more than everyone else did. She would ramble on about something and the other person would just have to listen. Having someone who contributed just as much to the conversation, if not more, was a breathe of fresh air for the Prefect. It felt more like a conversation and less like she was lecturing someone. Often she had to stop herself from talking too much but it made her feel a bit more comfortable knowing that Rosie was similar to her in that aspect, "I'm glad you're okay though. I get what you mean, there were a lot of people around. It was a bit... overwhelming, shall we say? I don't blame you at all. I was just concerned maybe someone had upset you or said something that I didn't hear." Serena continued, explaining why she had suddenly asked her about the situation and brought it up again.

She paused for a second before realising something, "Which Sabrina? Sabrina Hurst?" She asked her curiously. Sabrina Hurst was a Gryffindor that Serena had meet several months back in the library - shock horror, yes, Serena had been spotted in the library on a few occasions. The girl was also a friend of hers, "Yeah, she's lovely," Serena continued with a nod, glad that Rosie had met someone she could talk to even after the whole thing became a bit too suffocating for her.

"love is too beautiful to be hidden in a closet."

The night seemed to just shine on Serena's appearance more beautiful than it already did. Rosie tucked a piece of her curly hair behind her ear as she finally set her eyes on the girl next to her. She wasn't... Freaking out for once? Rosie was calm. They were having a normal conversation. She didn't know quite why she was so nervous before, it must've been something silly. Perhaps something she ate? Must be. It's not like her and Serena talked much anyway, she had spotted her in the common room a few times, in the Quidditch fields, in her classes, but Rosie could never muster up the courage to talk to the almighty Serena Towers.

Serena... Talked as much as her? Was that even possible? Rosie could only pick out one person who talked as much as her, no, two. Those people were Adam and Rhea. Her other friends got their opinions out in small and sweet sentences. She envied them sometimes. But she couldn't help but think their sentences lacked personality sometimes. If you don't have a lot to say, how are they supposed to know every single detail of what you're talking about? Then it leads into questions and then you have to talk and repeat what you had already said-- Ugh! It was just too much. And to top it all off, Serena was worried. She was worried! About Rosie! WHAT. "Oh no, nothing happened! Don't worry about it. It's just when everyone's around you and talking at once, it can get overwhelming, you know? I just needed a few seconds to breathe."

Sabrina Hurst, huh? The name rolled off the tongue, one that Rosie put in the back of her mind for future reference. She thought Eris knew her, so maybe she'd seen her more often. Rosie thought she was a lively kinda gal, she, at least didn't get bad vibes from her unlike other people. She swung her legs off the monkey bar edge and laughed, nodding. "Yeah! She's super nice. I saw you talking to Eris and Max too, and that.. Other girl, I don't know her name." Rosie said, referring to Phae. "I-I know Max is a pureblood." She said, almost sarcastically, because Max always seemed to bring it up during the bullying era. "Were you guys having like... A secret meeting?" She grinned mischievously. "A secret fancy family meeting?" Rosie had heard such weird things about pureblood families from her father. One of the points he made were, they traveled in packs, and that the kids hunted each other down in Hogwarts to form a group of pureness. Rosie didn't really wanna believe that, but her father seemed sure of it. "That's what my dad says, anyway. I'm not sure if it's true."

Of course, Rosie completely missed the point that her father was joking.

Glancing over to her fellow Hufflepuff, she smiled softly. "I get you," Serena nodded, "It really can be quite intense when it's crowded." She was very much like the girl beside her. Although she had started to get better at handling these large parties, she still did not To this day, she still preferred small meetings. One on one conversations with people, rather than massively overwhelming parties. She savoured this moment, knowing full well that August was likely to be full of those latter parties if her mother had her way.

"If it helps, the best excuses are pardoning yourself to go to the washroom or to get a drink. Both valid excuses to excuse yourself from the situation without seeming rude." Serena shared her opinion on the matter. These were two tactics that she had picked up from attending numerous parties with plenty of boring old people. Neither of these tactics caused offense, which made them perfect excuses to pardon yourself out of having to just stand there, smile and nod as boring people talked at you.

The Hufflepuff quirked an eyebrow as her fellow badger continued to talk - questioning what was happening at the Bonfire. "A secret meeting?" She questioned, "No, no, nothing like that." Serena continued shaking her head. "I know Max from before school. Well, more specifically, our families know each other quite well. I just haven't seen him in a while." She replied wondering what was going on with Rosie. Did she know Max well? She brought his name up a few times as well as mentioning Eris by name too, "Do you know them?" She continued.

She sighed softly, "Though, I wouldn't be surprised if there were secret meetings happening like that..." She muttered, more to herself than to Rosie. She had not actually gone to such a meeting herself but she had heard rumours of them. It was likely that people held them and if Serena could help it, she would avoid ever going to one. Hopefully, she would never be invited in the first place. Saying no to such an invite reflected badly on your family. It was a matter that could easily cause offense if not handled carefully. She did not want to be in such a position. Avoiding the invite in the first place would be the best option.

Serena looked at her dangling feet, kicking the air a little more as she held onto the monkey bars with her hands. Glancing back up, she scanned the area again. It was relatively quiet, compared to what she had expected for a Summer Camp. People were probably busy mingling in their cabins by now or taking part in some activities. The scenery around them was quite pretty though. The extra height gave them the advantage of seeing a little further than they normally would have, "The view is really quite beautiful, isn't it?" She asked the girl next to her. Hogwarts was something that always memorised Serena. The view of the castle, the lake, the grounds, everything, was always so beautiful. No matter what season it was. It looked lovely on the inside and the out. In snow, sun, the sunset or sunrise... It was always just lovely.

"love is too beautiful to be hidden in a closet."

Rosie felt all of her previous nervousness start to fade away as she continued to talk to her fellow Hufflepuff. She had no idea why she had felt so scared before, this was the same as any other conversation she had with someone! But this one, felt real. Rosie automatically felt like she could be herself around Serena. Maybe it's because they were so similar. She nodded when Serena agreed with her on the topic. She was hoping most people could relate.

She nodded to Serena's suggestions, smiling. "I'll be sure to use those next time. I just kinda panicked and made something up, I hope it didn't look weird." Rosie laughed nervously, rubbing the back of her head. Her face went a bit pink at the thought of an embarrassing situation revolving around a fake excuse. Rosie knew she wasn't the best at engaging with every kind of person, but it got worse in crowds. She just hoped the anxiety that filled her didn't get worse as the years went on.

The girl almost let out a sigh of relief when Serena confirmed it wasn't a secret meeting. They always seemed to freak Rosie out. What if it was some sort of scheme to wipe out all of the mudbloods and their families out of existence?? But that was impossible, her friends would never do that! Well, Max, maybe. Or Charles York. But that was besides the point. "It would've been a bad place to make a meeting anyway, in that crowded area. I dunno what I was thinking," she shook her head. Shame, shame, Rosie. She perked up when Serena asked if they knew them. "I don't know the black haired girl.. But I know Eris! Her and I are... Are like this," she locked her pinkies together, grinning, "and for Max and I? Well.. It's complicated. He sorta bullied me for a few months but now we're cool, I guess. I'm not mad anymore." She shrugged, brushing it off.

Finally, after muttering to herself, Serena gazed up at the sky, talking about how beautiful the view was, and Rosie at the moment was glancing at her in awe expression, smiling softly. Still looking at her, Rosie finally replied, "Yeah, it is." She said. Before she caught herself not actually looking at the view and instead looking at Serena, sputtering out another reply. "It is! It's really pretty." She nodded, her eyes on the view now. "You never really get a moment to gaze outside in the Hufflepuff common room, and when I'm outside the room, I'm always moving around. I don't get a chance," she sighed.

Serena grinned and shook her head, "You didn't look weird at all. I just got worried," She replied truthfully. At no point did she think Rosie was weird for leaving, it was simply a cause for concern that something that might have happened to her fellow housemate. She was quite relieved to find out it was not as bad as she had anticipated it to me. "I probably have quite a few tricks and tips for uh... surviving in an awkward situation without drawing too much attention to yourself..." She continued, being a bit careful on how to phrase it. It was true though. Serena had plenty of experience attending parties that she did not want to be in and trying to just get by without drawing attention to herself.

Keeping her head down, out of trouble and maintaining a low profile was something she excelled in. It was more when her mother wanted her to talk to people and essentially network. At that point, she was a babbling moron that had to second guess every single thing she said or did. It was not fun. "The black haired gir-" Serena started to mumble as she thought about it. Oh. "Phaedra." Yeah. Her. It was getting harder for her to avoid the Ravenclaw Pureblood that she had known since she was five. Looking back, it was actually kind of weird to think they were friends at one point... That was most definitely not the case now. "Ah! Eris is lovely, I didn't know you knew her too," She grinned at Rosie demonstrated how close the two of them. The smile on her face dropped off after a mere moment. The colour from her face paled slightly, "... Max... bullied you?" Serena said slowly as she tried to process this information.

In this moment, she kind of forgot how beautiful everything was. She could not even hear Rosie's response at the moment. The words just went into one ear and right back out the other, without even being acknowledged. How could she think about the sunset when one of her friends was being accused of being a bully and the worst part of that was... She kind of was worried it might be true. Serena did not even notice Rosie looking at her and not the view. Serena was too busy staring in the abyss, lost and trying to comprehend all of this.

Unlike Phaedra, Max was actually her friend. Her friend bullied someone as sweet as Rosie? What... The information was shocking to her, to say the least, "... Wh- What the- What the f- What did he do?" Serena's tone went from pure shock to slightly laced with anger. Rosie might not have been mad anymore but Serena was definitely turning mad. He couldn't have... No... This was... This was a lie, right? Or Rosie was exaggerating. Max wouldn't have actually bullied her, surely... But if he did... Damn. She had no idea how to react to this information. The mere thought that her friend was a bully and any of this was true actually caused her to feel a bit sick. There was a sense of dread as she awaited for Rosie to speak - and hopefully elaborate on this situation before Serena exploded with questions and confusion.

"love is too beautiful to be hidden in a closet."

Rosie blushed at the first comment. She didn't look weird? Thank god. She was hoping she didn't. She had a reputation for looking weird over literally everything. From how she skipped down the halls, to how she talked too much, to how she cried over the littlest of things. In short, her reputation sucked. Nobody took her seriously it seemed like. Which was fine, she guessed, she was only 12, she didn't really need to be taken seriously.

The comment tone towards Phaedra from Serena left Rosie wincing. Yikes. There must've been some drama in between the two. Not that it was any of her business, so she wouldn't ask about it. Rosie just hoped she wouldn't get into a messy situation like that. She almost did a few times, with the Lock In, and the ball that Eris and Rhea had set up after the disaster that was the Blossom Ball. But she had never officially cut off, or been cut off by a friend. Rosie herself thought she was too nice for that to happen! She wasn't really mean... Not to anyone else besides Max, anyway, and it was in self defense.

But when Serena's face changed when Rosie mentioned the drama with Max, she instantly regretted even mentioning it. She figured it wasn't a big deal anymore, it was over, he didn't mess with her anymore. She didn't think it mattered. Evidently, she did. Rosie's face paled, watching Serena get upset. It didn't even matter anymore, and seeing Serena getting upset over her... Rosie didn't know if she felt honored or afraid.

She shook her head rapidly. "Nononono, it's fine, Serena. I promise. It doesn't matter anymore. We were just... Getting to know each other! Max was doing it in his own special way." She spat out an excuse, it was a pretty lazy one too, even she wouldn't believe it. Rosie sputtered it out and stared at her hands. "It doesn't matter anymore, okay? It's over." She stopped for a moment before looking back up with a smile. "I should be going soon, but uh.. This was really nice, hanging out with you."

Rosie lowkey backed up, but it ended with her losing her grip on the monkey bars and falling onto the grass, hitting her butt. She groaned and looked up at Serena. "I'm okay!" She called out. "Just... Slip and fell. I'm super clumsy, you know." Rosie was nervously babbling now. That never ended well.
