Rain
IC Date: September 28, 2023
time: afternoon
@Delainie Silverwing
Astra blew her bangs up with an annoyed exhale. She put the hood of her cloak up and stormed across the courtyard. "It's raining! Again!" she grumbled. Sure, she like the rain but not for three days straight! It had certainly gotten her riled up, and she was antsy from being inside so long. A good book could only do so much to alleviate boredom for so many days, and Astra was afraid she'd run out it she kept on like she was. Flying class had been cancelled for just as many days as well. How am I going to become a Quidditch player if I can't even practice flying?
Suddenly, her foot shot out from under her. Astra had just enough time to think And now my robes will be muddy. Fantastic before falling into a large puddle. At least I'm on my back. Now her robe was sopping wet, and the cuffs of her sleeves turned brownish when she clambered back to her feet. She patted her pocket with her wet hand. My wand... Where is it? She cast about for it frantically, but the courtyard was a mess of mud and trampled grass. A brown wand wasn't going to be easy to find. Great, just great.

I was taking a walk around the courtyard, I like walks, when for the third day in a row, it started raining again! “Ugh!” I exclaimed. The ground was already starting to become slippery and muddy, I started stepping a bit higher in attempts to keep my shoes less dirty, to no avail. As I started walking back to the castle, I kept missing steps or my feet would slid out under me, I wouldn’t fall over though luckily. I was finally almost at the castle, finally almost out of this wet mess, when I noticed someone else slip and fall. It appeared that she had just fallen into the mud oh that sucks I thought. I but my lip as I looked to the castle, then back at the girl who was still on the ground. I decided that being dry could wait and carefully made my way over to the girl. As I almost made it to her, she stood up. Oh thank goodness she’s ok I thought to myself. The girl was muttering something to herself and was patting her pockets, I realized that she had lost her wand! Without her even noticing me, or I didn’t think, I looked around helping her, til I finally found a brown wand, very well hidden in the mud. “Here you go” I said. I extended my arm out before slowly pulling it back in, still holding the wand. I held it in front of me examining it. It was then when I realized how muddy the ground was here, and how dirty my shoes had become. Because if this, I made a slightly disgusted face before noticing the girl probably just wanted her wand back, and putting out my arm again.WC: 292Current Dates:

Others: BoldAstra looked around frantically, her eyes lighting upon another cloaked figure. She almost had to squint to see them in the rain, a strand of platinum blonde hair peeking out from under their hood. The face appeared to be that of a young girl, one of the first people Astra had met that was her height. The blue eyes of the feminine figure studied a stick in their hand.
"Here you go," the distinctly female voice said. She held out the wand slightly before bringing it back to herself.
Astra stood still for a few moments, peering curiously at the girl. What the bloody- Oh, stop it, she thought. It was hard, making a conscious effort to stop swearing (even if it was only a bloody hell here and there) or she would accidentally do it on holiday and would be grounded for the rest of eternity by her mother.
The girl's lips pulled up in a disgusted sort of look. A sneer. Astra was beginning to get irritated. First, the rain. Then, she fell and probably ruined her robes. And of course, there was loosing her wand. Now this girl made to give it back but is judging it?
"Could I have my wand back? I don't need it examined," Astra snapped, holding out her hand. She was going to thank the girl and move along, but the camel's back had broken and this was the last straw. "It's generally considered rude to offer someone something and keep it back, especially if it's theirs." She glared at the cloaked girl.@Delainie Silverwing

I was so worried now, I had just come over to help someone, now I’m making a very bad impression. The other girl snapped at me, I jumped in surprise. “Oh yeah of course sorry” I said sheepishly. “It’s just really dirty” I said. My eyes widened as I realized what the words that came out of my mouth sounded like. “No! I meant the ground, the rain has made it really muddy and now my boots are and stuff!” I exclaimed. Oh no, she probably hates me already. First she thinks that I’m judging her wand, and now calling it dirty! She had said that she wanted her wand back, of course, but I noticed that because of my panic and apologizing, I had it still in my grip. The girl had her hand held out, and I nervously gave it back, for real this time. “Oops, I’m so sorry” I said. I started stuttering some words but never finished any sentences. I grimaced at my stupidity, then of course, I realized that she probably thought I was making the face at her. Can’t I do anything right?! I asked myself. ”Im just gonna, ummm” I said, while not quite saying what I was going to do.WC: 208Current Dates:

Others: BoldAstra rolled her eyes as the girl made some excuse to cover up her judgement. "Yeah, sure, and I'm the queen of England," she retorted, her hand still outstretched. It wasn't that she cared if the girl was judging her wand, though that was a low blow to Mr. Ollivander and the wand itself, she just wanted to go back inside and get changed and dry off.
Then she'd finish this.
The blonde practically threw Astra's wand back (or so it was in the mind of the annoyed Slytherin) with a grimace spread on her face. "Thank you," Astra said curtly, plenty of venom infused in her voice.
The Ravenclaw girl stammered out an "I'm just gonna, umm" before Astra cut in, saying "Learn how to keep a poker face? Invest in some manners classes?"
Astra generally tried to keep her rude and intrusive thoughts under control, being gifted with said poker face and being raised to mind her manners, but she didn't care she was being hypocritical. One could clearly see that by the way she glared at the girl. Perhaps she shouldn't have taken offense, but the camel's back was snapped. Perhaps I should work on controlling my temper... she thought, continuing to send daggers into the girl via her eyes. "Well? You going to stick up for yourself?"
If there was one thing Astra hated it was dealing with a weak-willed person, especially one that had the nerve to judge her or her prized possessions. Muggle school had taught her to hate criticism in the eyes of others her age, and her immediate defense was intense sarcasm and hostility to make them go away. "Or are you coward, bird?" Her eyes narrowed as she wiped off her wand with the only clean part of her robe.@Delainie Silverwing

After i returned the wand, the girl said an insincere thank you, so I replied with “Oh your so not welcome”. I said it in the sweetest voice with a nice smile on my face, but I meant the words I said. She seemed like quite an unpleasant person. I had already given the girl her wand back, and she was already starting her insults. She said something about manners classes, ”im honestly surprised you know the definition of manners” I said ”or do you?”. I stood there and listened, I just really wanted to make her more mad. Sure it was petty, but what good would it do if I argued back, just staying calm and that should do the trick. “Sorry what did you say” I asked her. Hopefully making her repeat her words would make the girl angrier, and me happier. I checked my nails, which I could barely see for to the pouring rain and awaited her answer. I flashed her a quick, sassy, smile. “Oh I’m no coward” I said “if I were I wouldn’t approach someone like… you”. Now I was giving her a judgemental look, she thought I was before, this should prove her wrong!WC: 202Current Dates:

Others: BoldAstra scoffed openly at the girl. Makes sense she's a blonde. "Well if you know so much about manners, I'm sure you'd have figured out by now that it's rude to pick up someone else's stuff and keep it from them, not to mention judging what you should not judge," she spat. "In fact, if it weren't for your rudeness in withholding my own wand from me, I'm positive I could've been spared this most unpleasant encounter. Do you like pissing people off? Does it bring you some sense of joy knowing you've tainted someone's day just by existing?"
"I shan't waste my breath on a dimwitted pansy," Astra said in response to the girl's obviously petty question. "While you're looking for those manners classes, how about shopping for a new pair of ears? Saves a lot of frustration, just ask one of your blonde nitwit friends." Of course, Astra didn't know if the girl had any blonde nitwit friends, but she was relying on her Muggle school experience for this one, and from what she'd seen blondes tended to stick together. "And while you're at it, invest in some insult coaching, because whatever that was, it was embarrassing."
The blonde refuted the coward claim in what Astra thought was the stupidest way to go about it, paired with a judgemental look. Astra felt a low laugh rising in her throat and she stepped closer to her, thankful that they were the same height so those smug blue eyes could look into her angry sea green ones. The rain fell in sheets around them, and thunder boomed as Astra spoke these words: "That's right, bird. Cowards don't face me. Idiots do. Because a smart coward knows that I am to be feared.
Astra didn't let up on her intense gaze, stepping back a pace as lightning crackled in the sky. "I think Failure Academy wants their star pupil back. Better run along, little girl, before you make yourself more of a fool here with the big kids." Astra didn't smirk, she didn't do anything with her mouth.
But her eyes. Her eyes glared into the other girl's, not bothering to flick up and down in judgement because she knew from experience not many people reacted to that. It certainly didn't affect Astra. It was more the staring, the boring holes into the soul, the shooting daggers through the pupils that usually made them look away, made them flinch.
Astra had experience. She had the mindset of protection, protecting herself from hostility by being twice as toxic. It was what she had reduced was the key to survival. And she sure as heck wasn't going to walk away from this prat, let her think she'd one. Because in Astra's experience, walking away was giving up.
And no way in hell was that happening here.@Delainie Silverwing

I had in fact not been judging this stupid girls wand, I wasn’t even looking at it for most of the time, I had gotten distracted by my muddy shoes! In all honesty, I felt bad for the wand, that it had to be with her all of the time. ‘The wand choses the wizard’ how stupid. Nothing would ever chose to be around this girl, without knowing what she’s truly like that is. “I also don’t like making people angry but you are barely a even a real person, more just like a stupid, talentless, incompetent, useless, waste of space”. “You stupid girl, I wasn’t judging it. But I am judging you” I said. It seemed like she was trying to intimidate me with all that she said. “Who would fear you? First of all, we are the same age, and secondly, there’s nothing to fear except your breath” I snarled. “You don’t scare me”.
I was already done with her, so I quickly bent down, picked up some mud, and threw it on her face. “See? Mud is no fun!” I laughed. I knew she would probably wipe it off before doing anything, so I pulled out my own wand, and then yelled “tarantallegra!”.WC: 206Current Dates:

Others: BoldAstra smiled coldly when the blonde called her less than human. It was an insult she was used to, something she herself could agree with in her lowest moments. "I would agree with you, but it seems you're the waste of space here, considering how much you take up," she said, her eyes flicking up and down the girl's physique. In all honesty, she was fit, not terribly skinny and not overly chubby. Astra was a sight thinner, however, with lithe muscle and hardly any fat (likely because she forgot to eat so often).
"I don't much care that you're judging me, seeing as opinions from pond scum aren't really opinions at all," she said with a roll of her eyes. Why didn't she just give it back, it's really not that hard to be courteous. Plus she offered it and then took it back. It's not even hers!
She rolled her eyes again as the girl went on about how she wouldn't fear Astra. It's true, the slight eleven year old didn't look very intimidating, but that was one of Astra's advantages. She was underestimated. And that was a good thing. "That's not my breath, sweetheart, that's all the BS you're spewing," she hissed.
The mud was a surprise, to be honest, but reflexes happened to be necessary for survival with an older brother. "Immobulus," she cast as the mud flew toward her face. The wet dirt cold stopped and she flicked it back toward the girl, letting go of her concentration so that it would fly into the blonde's face.
"Tarantallegra!" she heard the other cast, and as quickly as she could, with a hint of urgency making it into her voice, she yelled, "Finite Incantatem!", stabbing her wand at the oncoming spell. The purplish red light at the end of the Ravenclaw's wand extinguished. Astra immediately cast the Freezing Charm again, this time at her opponent. The redhead leaned in close. "This is why they fear me. I do not give up. You've ignited the spite of a rival this day. Spite is forever.
I'd prefer not to have detention with a rat like you, so why don't we take this to the duelling club? Duke it out like real witches? Meet me there this evening, or risk word of your cowardice spreading throughout all of Hogwarts."
Astra released the girl from the spell, marching off and down to the dungeons to change. Godric, control your temper next time, Asa, the logical part of her brain chastised, but she didn't listen to it.
In some ways, she was excited to have an enemy. In some ways, she knew it was probably her fault. And it scared her a little that she wasn't bothered in the slightest at that notion.@Delainie SilverwingOOC: Astra has left the thread
