When Atlas arrived at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry the sun had already disappeared below the horizon. The journey from home to Hogwarts had been long and eventful, filled with both excitement and a touch of sadness upon bidding farewell to his father. Atlas didn't dwell on that feeling for long.

Inside the hall as they made their way in, he was completely awestruck. Observing how grand and well structured everything was, it all seemed fascinating. The professors sat at their table watching the ceremony. Atlas wondered how exactly they would be sorted into their houses.

""Welcome first year students. I am Solomon Lear, Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

The Headmaster introduced himself. The entire experience was just too good to be true as the boy spun around observing the great hall and everyone in it. Seeing his surroundings and the people in it, he thought, "Wow, all these people are witches and wizards."

Once students arrived the noise was settled and unsorted first years were grouped in one area, the sorting hat started singing what seemed to be a timeless song. Atlas was so surprised by the hats performance that he joined in with everyone clapping and cheering.

Few students were being sorted in the houses they belonged to when sorting was in progress.
He watched from behind a group of fellow first years in order to see how things were actually done. The sorting had repeatedly mentioned the names Hufflepuff, Gryffindor, Slytherin, and Ravenclaw after being placed on top of the heads of the young students each time. But Atlas was unaware of which house he would ultimately end up in. He had neither anxiety nor worry. He showed a neutral demeanor.

"Atlas Anderson," The Professor called his name. It was time for him to get sorted. He walked towards the other side where the professor was and took a seat. Instantly, talking sorting hat was put on his head right away.

"Oh, I see... sly, fascinating, and curious. Ravenclaw? Gryffindor? No… um. I know where you belong… ". The Sorting Hat stopped for a little moment. It then shouted, "SLYTHERIN!" The first-year was immediately met with a raucous applause from the Slytherin table and a blast of whistles. He became quite happy with where he was sorted. He then walked over to the Slytherin table and sat down while greeting a few of his housemates.

Cassi is just as eager as others for their sorting but they are also very nervous,
What if they're put in Gryffindor? Oh the horror, all that red will clash with their everything.

When they entered the Great Hall all they could think is, 'My new home away from home'. The ghosts and the overall vibe is very welcoming, they looked towards the Ravenclaw table to see their brother mouthing 'Good Luck' and Cassi responded with 'Thanks'.

They were thinking so long that they jumped when the first student's name was called. Time went by so fast that it seems like their name was called instantly. "Alarie,Cassiopeia!"

Cassi is not so nervous anymore, as they literally skip up to the stool and sat on it, the weight on their head being the only indication that the hat is on their head. "Another Alarie are you? Your brother begged for anything but Gryffindor and you are no different. You're Brave but Chivalrous when it benefits you, you have a thirst for knowledge perhaps Ravenclaw. No? You're loyal but only to those you trust and you value resourcefulness overall . BETTER BE...SLYTHERIN!"

As soon as he said Slytherin there was applause from the Emerald green table and whooping from the Ravenclaw table which is obviously their brother and his friends. Brothers are embarrassing but Cassi unfortunately loves the embarrassing doofus.

Cassi sat in between two random first years and immediately started grabbing food.

"I didn't come here to be average."
-Unknown "I did not impulsively force someone to open up to me again......Okay fine, I did but for good reason.
- Cassiopeia Alarie

As Alexa walked into the Great Hall, she felt her heart pounding with excitement and anxiety. Of course, her mother had told her what to expect but to see it in person was an experience that would stay with her for life. The way the candles hovered over her head and the sky being alight with stars helped to ease her tension, if only slightly.

Her mother had been a Hufflepuff and had told her to trust the Sorting Hat and to not be afraid. But how could she not be? Surrounded by so many unfamiliar faces, she felt out of place and alone.

The headmaster stood up and gave a short speech about Hogwarts and explained the significance of the 4 houses. Then they began to call out the names of students. She waited anxiously, hearing different people getting sorted until –

"Alexa Hale!"

She walked up and sat on the stool and the Hat was placed on her head.

What do we have here?

I see that you are ambitious. You have a desire to prove yourself to all your peers. It may do well to put you in Slytherin.

However, your curious nature and desire to learn overpower every other trait and so you would be a perfect fit for
RAVENCLAW!!

Alexa jumped out of her seat as she heard applause and moved to the Ravenclaw table where she smiled at a few of her peers. She let out a sigh of relief. She had just taken the first of many steps in her magical journey and she could not feel more excited about what was about to follow.

Astra wasn't nervous when her name was called. A small smile graced her features as she sat, waiting for the Hat to be placed on her head. She was expecting the voice, and the weird invasive feeling. Roderick had made it seem very uncomfortable and strange, but so far Astra was feeling normal.

Then the Hat started making comments about her memories. "Ah, I remember sorting your dad!" it said. "Was a difficult task, and so are you."

Astra swallowed hard. I always thought I'd be Ravenclaw. Now, there was doubt seeping into her mind. Something once so clear had been muddied, and she wasn't sure what other house she could be in if it wasn't Ravenclaw.

"Yes, you'd make an excellent Ravenclaw, but in your heart there's ambition. Much ambition. Very wise and cunning, I see. Loyal and brave, but not Hufflepuff or Gryffindor. Hm, yes, I do believe you might be a Hatstill."

"What's that?" Astra asked, grimacing as the hat continued to probe around.

"Equal parts of two houses, my dear. Your dad was one. Let's see now, very hard choice... Aha! You're not quite the studious little one you make out to be, but clever enough to pass classes with ease. I declare you... SLYTHERIN!"

Astra blinked as the hat was raised from her head and saw the Slytherin table clapping and cheering. She glanced over at the Gryffindor table to find Roderick flashing her a thumbs up. Slytherin, huh... A surprising but welcome turn of events! She goes over to join her house, grinning. I think I'll make a good snake.

Almost dead yesterday, maybe dead tomorrow, but alive, gloriously alive today

Hailey had heard about the houses from snippets of people's conversations on the train, and she hoped to be in Ravenclaw- she had always been the smart kid at muggle school, and it had become a part of her identity. Besides, it was also a place for creativity, and few things brought her more joy.

Hufflepuff wouldn't be so bad, either, as she did find people fascinating and loved making friends. However, she was shy, not exactly the social butterfly type, so she wasn't sure if she would fit in there (though surely all members were nice).

Hopefully she wouldn't be in Slytherin, with the things she'd heard about the place.

And she was already sure she wouldn't be in Gryffindor- with a pang of guilt, she thought back to a time she'd seen someone get bullied and done nothing out of fear.

Stepping into the Great Hall, her breath got whisked away. This place was so... beautiful. Magnificent. Every synonym she could think of. I mean, she had excpected it to be cool- it was a school of magic, after all- but this exceeded her excpectations.

She looked up at all the teachers and around at all the other students, overwhelmed but so happy.

One by one, students got pulled forward and put under the old hat to be sorted, and Hailey's heart thundered more and more the further up in line she got. Finally, she sat beneath the hat. It sat on her head for a minute before finally exclaiming, "Ravenclaw!"

Beaming, Hailey walked over to her table, trying to take in everyone's faces but unable to focus on anything but not toppling to the floor with nerves. She felt a rush of house pride course through her as she sat with the rest of her new family.

Lucy was in awe. The hall was so big! The four long house tables were full of students, young ones (second years) and old ones (seventh years). And she was in the middle of it all, waiting to be sorted. Of course she had a preference. Lucy was studious and she loved to read. So Ravenclaw would be perfect for her! Besides, her mom was in Ravenclaw, so maybe Lucy could meet some children of her mom's old friends. After a long time, the deputy headmaster finally called her name. Lucy walked to the front, sat on the chair and felt the Sorting Hat being placed on her head.
Oh, I see. A clever one, she heard a voice say. But it wasn't really a voice, more like thoughts that weren't hers. Hmm, where should I put you? Although you are a bookworm and really clever, I don't think Ravenclaw is fit for you the Sorting hat said. I see great ambition and the desire for real friends. So I think you belong in SLYTHERIN. The Hat screamed the last word and the Slytherin housetable erupted in cheers. Lucy stood up from the chair and went towards her new family. 'Let's begin this new chapter of my life!', she thought.

The whole hall was much bigger than Skye expected, it was truly huge. She looked up and around the great hall to check the surroundings, she was finally here and she was in awe. Hearing about the wizarding school for years with her upbringing, she was more than just glad to be here. Finally the long wait was over!

There were lots of new students around and she decided to look around to see how other first years were feeling; nervous, excited or even just normal and nonchalant.. She was definitely one of the second ones, although with each time passing by she grew so nervous like never before.
The waiting was long, her name not starting with the first few letters of the alphabet didn't help. Skye always hated waiting, she impatiently and unconsciously started fidgeting, moving her foot. At the same time she was looking around her surroundings and people again, while also wondering about the sorting in her mind.

What house would she be sorted into? Within her family there were many witches and wizards from different houses. She had a strong idea though...the house her family and lineage was mostly sorted into, the one that would be most expected for her and people who knew her.

Finally, her name was called from the Headmaster, trying to not show her nervousness she stepped towards the hat. And it was now on her head.

"hmm another one of you, huh." The hat said and Skye gulped without noticing she did so.
"I think i know where you belong surely and you do too! Yeah, you would fit into that house so well for sure, you are very brave and a bit mischevious too, you'd know you have some kind of nerve..

"GRYFFINDOR"

Happy but not surprised, Skye grinned and the hat was taken away. She was still grinning with happiness as the Gryffindor table cheered and welcomed her to her new home.

Sonya tried to keep her head down as she entered the Great Hall, but she already felt eyes on her as she walked to the front of the hall with the other first years. She could also hear whispers, which she drowned out with her Dre album on her Sony Walkman, which thankfully still worked after her aunt enchanted it for her, along with the cassette tapes.

After a while, the names started to be called, and eventually, Solomon Lear called out, "Herrera, Sonya." Whispers followed her as she walked up to the stool. She sat down and the hat was placed on her head.

Instantly, she heard a voice in her head: "Hmmm... Let's see what's going on in this head of yours. I see conviction and inner strength. Maybe Slytherin... but there is also courage, as strong as a Gryffindor's... and strong creativity. Or at least you're certainly thinking up some creative and colourful words. I also see a drive for learning and information... Maybe..."

Sonya listened and breathed a sigh of relief. The Sorting Hat shouted, "Ravenclaw!!!

It took nearly 38 seconds for anyone to start clapping or cheering as they did for the other kids who joined Ravenclaw. The message wasn't said, but Sonya got it all the same.

You're not welcome.

She walked over to the Ravenclaw table and sat by herself as the next student was called up.

This entire day had been an out-of-body experience for Robin, and she's pretty sure she's been slightly disassociating for the majority of it. Who could blame her though? She'd been randomly thrown into this magical world with absolutely no knowledge of it and was expected to just... know what to do? It was terrifying, and everyone around her seemed to be well-equipped for whatever the next hour may bring. She felt like a deer learning how to walk for the first time. She felt like she didn't belong in her own skin, an unsettling feeling lingering over her - the feeling that she didn't belong here. It was a familiar feeling, but it felt different now, because she really didn't belong here. At this magical school, surrounded by witches and wizards. Sure, technically she was a witch, but was she really? She hadn't even known she was inherently magical until her 11th birthday. Some of these people around her had grown up surrounded by magic.

But maybe she was overthinking and catastrophizing, because she knew there were other people like her, which was slightly comforting to know. People who hadn't grown up around magic and felt unfamiliar in their own skin right now. Muggle-borns, she thinks that's what she is. She'd done a bit of reading about the Wizarding World so she wouldn't feel as unprepared, but this was still the most nerve-wracking experience of her life, and she really missed her father and sister. The homesickness was starting to settle in, and she hadn't even went through the Sorting Ceremony yet, and a massive part of her really didn't want to. Apparently, she was meant to put a hat on her head and it was somehow supposed to determine her best traits and put her into a house based on that, where she would be forced to live for seven years of her life. For some reason, she felt a lot of pressure on her to get into one of the good houses, even though she wasn't sure what they were. She didn't want to get into a bad house with a bad reputation, because she needed everyone to like her, and that would just ruin it.

When it was finally time to go into the Great Hall, she was allowed a breather from her spiralling thoughts for just a few moments. The room was magnificent, and so much more lavish and grand than anything Robin had ever seen before. Was this how buildings normally looked in the Wizarding World? If so, she was quite jealous of the people who lived in them. She looked up, and gasped at the sight in front of her. Candles were falling from the ceiling, seemingly hanging from nothing, simply floating in the air. Held up by magic, she supposed. That was going to take some getting used to. The Headmaster was there too, greeting everyone as all of the new students filed into the hall, and once they had all arrived inside, the door shut behind them automatically with an almost ominous click. Anxiety filled Robin's body once more as she watched the Headmaster walk to the front of the Great Hall and start his speech. She felt that feeling of not belonging again, the uncertainty of what was to come tonight, especially as she listened to the Headmaster's speech, and especially when the sorting hat started to speak. She really wasn't used to any of this.

Before she knew it, though, the Sorting Ceremony was starting and she watched as names got called up, cheers and applause coming from the house tables that each student got sorted into. All of this happened in a blur until suddenly,

"Monroe, Robin!"

Her blood ran cold, and nausea rolled about in her stomach as she stepped up to the sorting hat on shaky legs. She sat down on the stool and the hat was placed on her head, the rim of it covering her eyes and making her vision go black. "Hm, let's see," the voice in her head made her jump, "interesting... very interesting. You would do well in Hufflepuff, definitely. I can sense the kindness and selflessness in you, and... ah yes, the loyalty too. But you are a very complicated individual, where should I put you?" Robin wasn't sure whether the hat was actually expecting an answer or not, but it wasn't as if she would be able to give it one, so she stayed silent, biting her tongue as she waited with bated breath to be placed somewhere. And then another thought occurred to her, what if she wasn't placed anywhere? What if she really, truly didn't belong here and the sorting hat couldn't place her in a house? Would she be sent home, after coming all this way? Would they realize she didn't have what it takes to be a witch? "Now, now," she almost sensed the chuckle coming from the hat, and she wasn't sure how that was possible, "no need to worry about all of that, because I know just where to put you. You'll do great in... Ravenclaw!"

The table of blue erupted into cheers as the sorting hat was taken off her head and light filled her vision again. Robin blinked a few times to adjust before stumbling over to the Ravenclaw table in confusion. The smart house? She didn't know much about Ravenclaw, but she knew enough to gather that this was the house were all of the smart and intelligent people were sorted into, which was definitely not her. She was not smart nor studious, so clearly the sorting hat was wrong. She would've better suited Hufflepuff, she thinks. Or maybe she would've better suited not coming to Hogwarts at all. Nevertheless, she didn't have a choice but to just sit down at the Ravenclaw table, put a smile on her face and act as if she was happy with being placed in this house. All she had to do was act as if nothing was wrong, which she could do. She'd been doing it her entire life, after all.

JOYCE CROMWELL | 1ST YEAR | HUFFLEPUFF

Date: 1st December, 2023
Mood: Anxious

Cromwell shuffles her feet, fidgeting. She never fit in with a normal school, and she certainly felt even more odd being here. She felt like she transported back in time, and is in a strange fever dream. Floating candles? Talking hats? That's something that would happen in a dream.

But she know it's real, heck, she made sure it was- though her arm is getting rather bruised from the constant pinching. She can hear idle gossip coming from the older students, she was no stranger to the whispers around her, but this only makes her more uneasy. She wonders what would happen if she get chosen into a house? Would they be disappointed? These are the people she's going to live with for almost a year, and she was of no fun, as far as she can tell, she's not as interesting as the rest of the first years here-

"Joyce Cromwell."
"Here." She peeps up out of pure reflex. While standing there awaiting for the 'role call' to continue on, though after what felt like an eternity she finally remembered why she was here. Face blushing red, she hurried on stage without another word, shrinking herself into her robe and hope she can just disappear forever. What a great first impression Joyce. She had zoned out completely she had forgotten about what she was here for, she barely hear the sorting hat's rambles, only followed the cheering of the house table and have quickly move across to sit down. Hoping to whatever magic creature there is that they will move on. Swiftly.
