"Totally agree! It was the weirdest moment of my life, finding out I was a witch. I thought it was all a big joke or an insult or something. My parents accepted and believed it a lot faster than I did. They said it explained all the weird stuff I made happen. My parents thought it was really cool and wondered what kinds of magic I'd learn and what my new school looked like, and I was still kind of skeptical. But of course, I finally believed that it wasn't a joke. It's definitely cool, because now I get to make things float by saying two words!" Madi smiled. She resisted the urge to pull out her wand and do the Levitation Charm, thinking it might make her look like a show off.
"That so cool! I never joined like a group of runners like you did, I don't think I could find one. I normally just ran around my grandmother's. She had a big open field perfect for running." Madi said. She thought she had a lot in common with Delainie, which was good. Maybe they could be friends! She thought it would be cool having a younger friend.

Getting to Hogwarts
I had believed that I was a wizard pretty quickly, like only a few hours, I had always loved magic so much, so I wanted to believe it. “Yeah, a few weird things had happened to me too, like one time, I was reading and went to flip a page, and it did it on its own!” I said. It looked like Madi had wanted to grab her wand for something, but the look in her eye said that she shouldn’t. I wanted to see some magic, so I said “What spells do you know? What’s your favorite one?”. Hopefully she would show me something later. “That must have been fun, running around in your grandmas field, my grandma lived in an apartment, so not much room. My parents had a good amount of money, but we still lived in an average sized house.” I really hoped that I could become friends with Madi, especially since she’s a year older, it could be really cool. “About how far is Hogwarts from the station?” I asked. I had kind of hoped at least half an hour, I liked talking to Madi, but I didn’t want her to be done being around me. “Is Hogwarts cool? What does it look like?” I asked.

"I think I know three. The red sparks charm, the green sparks charm, and the levitation charm." Madi said, in response to Delainie's question. "My favorite is probably the red sparks charm. I probably shouldn't do it here, though." She said, not wanting to break a rule on her first day. And if she damaged something, that would be two rules broken and she hadn't even made it to Hogwarts yet.
"It was fun! I always looked forward to our visits there so I could do it. Kind of the opposite for me, I grew up in a very small apartment, and we didn't have any space for running around." Madi told her. She thought it was nice talking to Delainie, she seemed really kind.
"I don't really know how long it takes, I know it's a few hours though. We don't have that long left." Madi said, roughly estimating.
"Hogwarts is amazing! It's huge and beautiful and awesome. You are definitely going to love it there, it's so cool. I can't really describe how it looks, you know how old castles look, right? Think that, but magical. It's kind of hard to explain." She said. She didn't think it would be very helpful, but that was her description.

She already knows three spells already?! I though excitedly. I really wished that she was allowed to show me, hopefully she would once we were at Hogwarts. "Ooh, a levitation charm, that sounds so cool! I said to Madi excitedly. I smiled at her, I was really excited about how fast I had made a friend, and that I was going to a school for magic!
It was really nice talking to Madi, she seemed so pleasant to be around, I liked it. "I've always had a lot of energy, so running and sports and everything was always so fun!" I shared with her.
"oh, its been really nice talking with you Madi!" I said, time had flew by so fast because of it! I secretly didn't want the ride to end, well, I tried to keep it secret, but my face probably screamed it.
Madi started describing Hogwarts, it seemed really nice! She said that I would like it there, I really hoped that she was right, this was the place where I was staying for a year after all. That's when it hit me, all the way until Christmas without seeing my parents and my sister. A sudden wave of sadness rushed through me. I looked over to Madi to see if she noticed.

Living is the art of getting used to what we didn't expect
"It's been nice talking to you too, Delainie. I can't wait to see you get Sorted. I'll save a seat for you at the Ravenclaw Table, just in case." She smiled. She then saw that Delainie's expression changed. Madi was pretty sure that she was sad, but what about? Was it homesickness? Worry? She immediately jumped into "make Delainie feel better" mode.
"Are you alright?" Madi asked. She hoped that whatever Delainie was upset about Madi could make better. She did not want Delainie to be sad or homesick or worried on her first day, or on her second, or on third. She just really didn't Delainie to be upset. She wanted her to have an amazing day, because she deserved one.

“I can’t wait to learn magic tricks and flying and everything!” I said to her. Madi already knew some spells, since she’s going into her second year, maybe she could help me with some at one point I hoped. I laughed a bit as she said that she had lots of energy, and I would never have peace around her. “Hah, same, I can get super talkative once you get to know me, I mean, I’m already pretty talkative right now!” I told Madi. It was fun talking to her.
I smiled and nodded when Madi told me she’d save a seat at Ravenclaw for me, I really hoped now that I would be sorted there, even more tan before. Yeah, it really has been nice talking to you I thought to myself. Madi seemed to have noticed that I was feeling kind of sad. “Yeah, I’m ok, but, yup, just feeling really homesick, I already feel lonely from my family if that makes any sense” I said. It was really comforting to see Madi immediately check if I was ok, she was really nice, I could tell already. Madi didn’t want me to be upset, this girl was already amazing, she really did care, she deserved everything good, she barely even knew me and was being so wonderful to me. I smiled, feeling a bit better knowing Madi was here for me. The train came to a slow stop. I guess we were here now. “Well, it was great talking to you Madi, can’t wait to see you later” I said to her as I got my things ready.
