This was it. Madi was going back to Hogwarts. She stood with her family, exchanging goodbyes. She hugged her parents and her little sister. "Do you promise you'll write? Even more than you did last year?" Her mother asked after releasing her from a hug. "You definitely didn't write to us enough last year." Her father added. "Yeah!" Her little sister, Analia, said. Madi smiled.

"I promise. I'll write to you every other day. And I'll come home for Christmas and all that. You don't have to worry, I'll stay in constant contact." She reassured them.
"That's a relief. Bye, Madi. We'll miss you so much." her mother told her.

After a few more goodbyes and hugs, Madi walked over to get on the train. She waved goodbye to her mother, father, and sister, and then boarded the train. After getting on, she tried to find a compartment at the back of the train, like she did last time she was on the Hogwarts Express. Once she found an empty one, she entered it and went to sit down. She opened her trunk to find something to do, like maybe a book she hadn't read yet or her sketchbook.

This was my first time going to Hogwarts! I stood staring at the wall between platform nine and ten. My mother looked at me and nodded “go ahead, you just run straight at it, don’t stop until you’re on the other side”. I started moving, and right as I was about to hit the wall, I closed my eyes. When they reopened, I saw a big train with the words Hogwarts Express written on it. There were children standing around it saying goodbye to their friends and family. I saw one girl who was talking to her parents and younger sister, I wondered if that’s what it would’ve been like if my older sister was a wizard. Just then, my family came through the wall, I guess muggles could reach the platform if their child was there. ”Well I guess you better go now” my father said. Yeah, i guess so, I’ll miss you, mostly went my sister, with a small smirk. I know you’ll do great Delainie, you love school, but don’t forget to send us messages often said my mom, with a tear slipping out of her eye. I nodded and slowly started to walk away. I looked back at them every few seconds just to make sure that they hadn’t gone anywhere. As I stepped onto the train, I looked back one last time, blew my parents a kiss, then kept walking. Slowly walking through the train looking for a compartment to sit in. Most of them were pretty full or had kids who looked much older than me. The farther I walked into the train, the sadder I felt. The realization that I would be away from my family for so long made me nauseous. At the back of the train, I finally found a compartment filled with only one girl who happened to look about my age.Then I realized that it was the girl talking to her sister from earlier! “Can I sit here?” I asked.

As Madi was looking in her trunk to find something to do during the train ride, the compartment door opened and another person came inside. Madi closed her trunk and turned around to look at them. It was a girl. She had blonde hair and blue eyes, and was pretty short (in Madi's opinion, but she was 5'4, so her opinion didn't count for much) She had seen her on the platform with her family, and Madi thought she was an incoming first year or maybe a second year that she didn't know. She looked too young to be older than that.

There were a lot of students at Hogwarts, and Madi didn't even know a lot of the students in her year. She didn't even really know some of the students that were in her house. But she recognized most of them. So either this girl was an incoming first year (which Madi thought she was) or a second year that had somehow managed to never go near Madi the entire year.

"Can I sit here?" The girl asked.

"Yeah, of course, go ahead." Madi told her. "I'm Madi, by the way. What's your name?" she asked, and smiled at the girl.

“Yeah of course, go ahead. Im Madi by the way, what’s your name the older girl, Madi said. At first, i wasn’t sure what to do, my brain had just shut off. I’m pretty shy so taking to new people scared me, especially people that could be older than me. For a few seconds, i just stood there, staring at Madi. I quickly realized how stupid I must have looked, so I came back to my senses a little bit, i started to walk into the compartment. I looked at her again and then fully snapped back, I smiled, maybe I had a chance at making a new friend! I grabbed my trunk, which I may have overpacked a little and sat down next to her. I looked inside my trunk to see if I had brought anything to do on the train ride, or just too many clothes i probably won’t even wear. It was mostly just clothes. Quickly, I shot a glance at Madi trying to guess her age. Maybe 11 or 12. I remembered her question that she asked me and answered with, I’m Delainie, Delainie Silverwing. “im a first year here, what about you?” I asked. Immediately I was scared that she wouldn’t like me, I hoped that my fear didn’t show in my eyes, but I still think it did.

The girl introduced herself as Delainie Silverwing, and she was a first year, like Madi thought she was.

Madi remembered how nervous she had been during the beginning of her first year at Hogwarts, but at least she had had someone to sit with during her first year train ride. But she had no idea what to expect or if anyone would like her or if she'd be the worst in school. She hoped Delainie wasn't feeling anything even close to that, it was not enjoyable in the slightest. But after Madi had been Sorted into her House, and started making some new friends, she definitely became a whole lot less nervous and everything became a whole lot easier to her. Madi wished the same for this girl and the other first years.

"It's nice to meet you, Delainie. I'm a second year, well, going into my second year, and I'm in Ravenclaw." Madi said. "So, what things are you most excited for about Hogwarts? What do you want to do there?" she asked, while moving to put her trunk on the floor so she could lean against the window and turn to look at Delainie.

"It's nice to meet you, Delainie. I'm a second year, well, going into my second year, and I'm in Ravenclaw." Said Madi. "So, what things are you most excited for about Hogwarts? What do you want to do there?"
As soon as Madi spoke, I suddenly felt relieved, she seemed genuinely kind, not trying to fake anything. I adjusted in my seat to be more comfortable and then replied to her. ”It’s nice to meet you too” and it really was. “I really hope to be a ravenclaw, or a Slytherin maybe, I’m a half blood and I only found that out a few years ago, I never knew that magic even really existed! So I think that I’m the most excited for learning things like charms. I really want to join the quidditch and broom racing team! When I was younger I used to pretend to fly on our broom at home, it’s so cool that you can do that in real life!” It was only then that I realized how much I had been talking. I had just gotten so excited that somebody may want to be my friend. “Sorry” I said I’m not usually that talkative until you get to know me”. I looked away, embarrassed. I hoped that she wouldn’t think I’m crazy, because I usually am very shy, just today seemed different. I guess that I may have been kind of desperate to make friends.

"Ravenclaw is a great House, and I'm sure Slytherin is too! I'm sure wherever you get Sorted you'll be pleased with." Madi smiled. "That must have been a big surprise! I'm the only magical one in my family, both my parents are Muggles. How did you only find out that you were a half-blood a few years ago? If you don't mind me asking." Madi added. She had a few guesses, but didn't want to assume. "That's awesome! I really want to join the Quidditch team, too, but I haven't been a broom much. Maybe in my third year. I think that once I learn a few more spells I might sign up to be a Duellist." she shrugged. "Right? Brooms are amazing! I still can't believe we can fly on what used to be part of a chore for me." Madi grinned, definitely agreeing with Delainie. "You're going to love Charms class, especially if you didn't have much knowledge or experience with magic beforehand. It's really fun." Madi hoped she wasn't talking about herself too much.
"Don't worry! It's more than fine, I love talking to people." Madi smiled. She liked that Delainie was talking to her more.
"So, tell me a little bit about yourself! What do you like to do?" Madi asked.

I didn’t know that you could have two muggle parents but still be a wizard, buts that’s what Madi said she was, so I trust her. ”Its totally fine, I cut my finger, but then it somehow just healed, my older sister told me that my mother was a wizard. Ever since then, I’ve know I’m a wizard too, this was about two or so years ago!” I said. Madi seemed really nice, so I continued, “I don’t really know too much about quidditch or broom racing but it just seemed soo cool, duelling could be fun too.” I really hoped that Madi was right about charms class, I had really been looking forward to it, and transfiguration, everything about casting spells and stuff has always really intrigued me. I had felt a lot better when she didn’t really seem to care about how much I talk. Maybe we could become good friends, I thought. “I really like school, and reading, I play a few sports, and I don’t really like spiders. When I was little I would also always to pretend to have superpowers and, like I said earlier, pretend to fly on brooms. I’m sure my mother found that pretty funny, considering she knew about the wizardung world.” I said. “What sorts of things do you like to do? What’s Hogwarts like, and Ravenclaw, so that I know if I get sorted there?”

"My first instance of magic is pretty similar! I broke my mother's favorite vase and it fixed itself while I was out of the room." Madi said. She related with Delainie's story, even though it wasn't herself that she'd injured. "It must have been really weird to learn that your mother was magic. Especially since she didn't tell you." Madi said. It was weird enough to learn she was magic, she couldn't imagine hearing that her mother was secretly magic all that time too.

Madi heard that Delainie liked reading, played sports, and didn't like spiders. Who liked spiders. anyway? She was so happy that they had stuff in common.

"Well, I love reading, playing sports, hiking, running, and art! I absolutely despise insects of any kind." Madi said, telling Delainie a little bit about herself.

"Hogwarts is amazing! I was really nervous coming to it, because I didn't know anyone there or what to expect or what would happen, but it was all great, and it felt like home in no time. The lessons are great, so different from your usual math and science. My favorite is Defense Against the Dark Arts." Madi said, smiling. "Ravenclaw is awesome, I've never met so many people that share so many of the same interests that I have. It's great, because you get to know people with the same interests, like I said. But I think all the Houses are like that."

Madi shared her first time using magic (by accident), she broke her mothers favorite vase and it fixed itself, similarly to my first time using magic. " Yeah, it was pretty weird fining out that me and my mother were both secretly wizards, but honestly, kind of cool!" I said. It seemed like me and Madi had a lot in common, maybe we would end up in the same house too, i did hope to be placed in the Ravenclaw house the most. Madi shared that she liked reading, sports, hiking, running, and art, I liked all of those things except for art. I found art very frustrating, because ive never been good at it, at all. " Oh I love running, I was on the team with my school before Hogwarts!" I exclaimed with a big smile on my face. She was saying things about Hogwarts. Madi told me that everyone in the houses shared so many interests, which i was very happy about, and she was telling me about classes. " The classes are not like your usual science or math questions, my favorite class is Defense against the dark arts" Madi said. I was also excited for that, but not as much as charms. Now, I was really hoping to be put in Ravenclaw, so I could see Madi more often, although I know that I just met her, and that she's a year older than me.
