Dichotomy in Season

In winter's reign
Dead things lie
The living are away
The sky cries
Clear tears only to freeze
With the cold

Spring comes
To break the white
With small green shoots
And the sun's mighty light
Even yet, brown muck penetrates
Snow is water still

Persuade Me, I Plead

And I scream at the stars
They hold nothing over me
My heart is torn apart
There is no light I can see

I long for control
But I lust for the madness
Of rising chaos
And hopeless sadness

It's not all bleak, per se
I'm simply a realist
There's no hope for the world
When you tend towards nihilist

I live out my creed like a monk or a nun
I show the world what it's like to be godless

Convert me, I urge you
Persuade me, I plead
Don't reason your convictions, perhaps you'll succeed

I believe in reason, I believe in science
Passion and spirit is what will cure my blindness

Sea of Sky

Ten million drops of sea
In the starry sky
Reflection, refraction
The years go by

On earth, we grow and change
But the sobbing, starry sky remains

The writers write
The poets dream
Of love and sea
And sky the same

Element of Self

The elements of nature
Invisible wind, but powerful and present
Howling, raging, thunderous ocean, turning calm in the early hours
Destructive, burning fire, without which a man freezes in the night
A lifeless, heavy stone, unmoving in the earth

Now you, my soul
You are unseen but a mighty force
You howl and scream in a tempest of emotion, calming when nothing remains
You tear me apart with your very existence, yet you thaw my frozen heart
When you make a choice, you are heavy and set in your ways

Soul, you are the element of man

Silence

Sometimes you are loud
Burning and turning as I try to sleep
As I try to take a test
As I try to prepare for the day

Sometimes you are screaming
Ideas knocking at my cranium
Begging to be acted upon
Begging to be noticed

Sometimes you are whispering
In my inner ear, I hear my voice
Saying things I have never heard
Telling me things that are not real

Sometimes you are not me
Sometimes you are her
Sometimes you are him
Sometimes you are all of them at once

But when I need you, you are silent
When I need you to be loud you turn away
When I beg you to talk so I can listen, you shun me
When I want you to be not-me, your voice remains mine

Bend to my will, shape to my needs
This is what I want to say
But you cannot, or you would just be me
And that cannot be

So scream when you desire
Whisper when you want
But please let me remember your words
So when I need you, you will be there in a way
