Max pursed his lips as his spell dissipated against his target's Protego spell. Now, why on earth would they have cast a shield? Why couldn't they have played nice and just taken the damage? Sighing melodramatically, Max risked a glance over to Amaury. The silly little french boy seemed hellbent on winning (and likely shedding some blood in the process), and a sudden wave of gratitude washed over Max as he remembered that he was allies with Amaury, not enemies. Because goodness, would it suck to have to duel against that jerk.

Out of the corner of his eye, Dmitri saw Astrea cast one of the better Protegos he had seen in a while—dissipating not just one, but two entire offensive spells just like that.

If he had command over his facial muscles, he would have had said something vaguely complimentary, but seeing as he seemed to be under this Petrificus for some time, those compliments could wait.

Even considering the standard duellist's lack of physical strength, no singular amount of simple magic could thoroughly restrict the Vipers, least of all from foreign hands. It would only be a matter of time until her teammates regained full capability. Until then, Astrea would need to weather the storm and establish a far more respectable plan than being shocked still into uselessness.

Withstanding the rippling impacts of two targeted spells, her cleverly cast shield charm did its duty well to nullify their opponents' offensive intent. Though it would not last very long, its present performance — much like their team's — would excel far beyond momentary effects.

Astrea, despite being outnumbered, remained composed and steadfast as ever, quickly throwing up a shield that dissipated both of the offensive spells thrown at her. Impressive as ever. Motivated by the desire to join her teammate in casting once more and be useful again, Ruby managed to shake off the Petrificus—perhaps it hadn't been such a strong spell after all—and got back on her feet with a small nod towards Astrea.

As the fog was dissipating, but still working, Meenauh saw a myriad of Confringos sent over the other side, which also had a Lightning Cloud above their heads. And they were two versus three.

Astrea split Reparifors to support Ruby and Dmitri, and still kept some energy to dodge the incoming spells. And there were a few to dodge... Ruby realised that most were coming her way, and threw up and shield, ready to dissipate, reflect and rebound.

Maskim, it might have been, did not quite realise that around him, the two players echoed the spell. So his spell miserably failed and nothing came out of his wand. Hadashi was more successful with the spell, even splitting it into two (Meenauh almost closed her mouth with her palm, as it might've been disastrous). The first shattered off Ruby's shield, and Astrea just danced away from the full blow, only to be scratched with the splinters.

But Amaury put the whole soul into the spell. It shot off brighter than the Sun, it seemed. If that power would hit anyone, the results would be catastrophic. Astrea, again, just moved to the other side to be hit with more splinters. But Ruby paid attention: she positioned her shield ideally to not just reflect the spell, but reflect it towards the caster. Amaury definitely did not expect that, and, as mentioned before, the results were catastrophic. A huge explosion shut Amaury to the ground a few meters away. Meenauh even thought of stopping the match, but despite the blow, the duellists got up quickly, though not without pain.

No lightning would mean anything at that moment after they witnessed a mind-blowing scene.





Ah, and yeah, Dmitri slowly regained the control over his body to re-join the battle.

Shaking off his limbs just as he felt the Petrificus wear off, Dmitri faced his teammates with a thankful-but-not-very-much-so smirk and a new (begrudging) respect for pulling off two spells in such a hectic round.

"Hm, think it's high time we take this a little more seriously?" The boy still couldn't hold himself back from making such quips, but who is he without them, anyway.

In a mirroring cue of the last round, the newly freed Ruby drew up her shield charm in successfully dissipating and deflecting one cast of a disastrously skilful confringo. While Astrea — tirelessly tending to the team's overall condition — had the good luck to have dodged the brunt of their opponents' explosions, the deflected curse found an easier target in its own caster. To have one's own spell unexpectedly returned by enemy hands... Astrea could think of no worse humiliation.

Even so, she could not be considered an empathetic individual. The remarkably wrought devastation fit their foreign guests far more than the unflappable Vipers, and Astrea could not pretend to believe otherwise. With her former captain's return to formidable capability, the unhindered piste would surely return to its gruellingly righteous strength. She, fully aware of the stagnating compromise they had accidentally engaged in, could not bear to be lacking amongst her ranked superiors.

What the hell was Amaury doing? Maksim's brows furrowed as he stared at his French teammate while he cast a full-force spell at the kid putting up a shield- seriously, did he not think about the consequences of his actions? His bafflement clearly was enough to stymie his own spell-casting, however, as Maksim completely blanked on the wand movement for the spell he had been trying to cast. What on earth? Sighing, Max pursed his lips and readied his wand once more. One more time, let's take it from the top!

After rising to her feet, Ruby quickly cast Protego—and good thing she had, because not a moment later, the spells came flying towards her and Astrea. One of the boys had failed to successfully cast—that was one less thing to worry about—while the other two sent Confringos their way. Astrea managed to dodge both, luckily, only being hit by splinters, and Ruby's shield held up nicely, dissipating one of the spells. The other was Amaury's—a spell that seemed particularly powerful—and her shield managed to reflect it back at him. How embarrassing to be hit with such a strong spell by your own hand. She laughed. “Going to have to do better than that.” A self-satisfied smirk twisted her lips as she readied herself for what was to come next. Not a bad round.

There was never quite an assurance of how a strategy would play out, and it was never more clear than now. Amaury himself wasn't even quite sure of what had happened as the air cleared, only that he now hurt, and that wasn't remotely what he had planned. Why wouldn't those damn Hogwarts students just give up already?
