Astra climbs. The stairs are a lot taller than she expected, but she was determined to visit the tower. It was past curfew, but she had a mission.

It was a sort of rite of passage in her mind, climbing into the sky and being so close to the stars she was named after. It was just right.

The girl stepped up for the last time and gasped. The tower open to the air, letting a cold wind wrap its tendrils around Astra. She ran to the railing, leaning out and staring at the moon. It was big, bright, beautiful. Close enough to touch. She found herself reaching out, on her tiptoes, stretching over the railing.

Jupiter, in perfect visibility. The big, striped planet hovered over a large cluster of stars. Her eyes widened in wonder, sparkling with the reflection of night. And Saturn! She focused on the ringed planet, her mouth open.

It was all so beautiful, so majestic, the epitome of creation. She remembers Aunt Aces talking about this place, the calm and wonder seeming to exude from the twilight itself. Aunt Seren's words about nocturnal dragons ring in Astra's ears, and images of majestic shadows play across her mind. Yes, the night was majestic castle hall and the starts the gorgeous tapestry adorning it. She traces the curve of the moon with her finger, studying the craters and spots.

Uncle Ray had once told her a story of when he and Aunt Aces met in the tower, back when they were students. He said that her name suited her, and the stars made her seem like a goddess. Astra wondered if the same fortune had been passed to her.

Even if it hadn't, Astra decided name did indeed suit her, for she was of the stars. The sky was far from the limit and she determined to reach past it this year.

She bade farewell to the night and started down, praying her small form and light steps would prevent her from being caught out past curfew.

Almost dead yesterday, maybe dead tomorrow, but alive, gloriously alive today
