Ophelia stood on the crowd platform, her eyes on the bright red train. She couldn't believe it, really. It was finally here. The day that she'd been longing for and dreading for so long. The first day that she would be attending the magical academy. The first day that she would get to meet other magical beings like herself. And, most importantly, the first day that she would be all by herself.

This might not be different for someone else. But Ophelia wasn't someone else. She was a daughter of the Northwell family, meaning she was overprotected by her loving parents. While other girls would go to sleepovers, extended birthday parties, and playdates that lasted for hours regularly, she was shepherded indoors after seven o' clock and was never left to go anywhere by herself. Though it wasn't like she had many friends to invite her over. Only once had she ever been invited to a sleepover, which she'd declined.

But this was Ophelia's chance to change all of that. All her past was nothing compared to her future, her present. She was going to meet other wizards and witches. She was going to make friends. She wasn't going to be all alone anymore.

Taking a deep breath, Ophelia turned around. Behind her stood her family. Her parents stood with their eyes full of love and pride as they looked at their daughter. Felix, her younger brother stood straight-backed, watching the people around him with curiosity and interest. He caught her watching and gave her a warm smile, revealing his missing front teeth.

Ophelia suppressed a giggle and turned to her parents. Without warning, she wrapped her arms around them. Her arms were only just long enough to do so and resulted in an unbearable ache, though she didn't remove them until a good minute had passed. When she stepped back, she examined her parents and noticed the tears in her mother's eyes.

Mrs. Northwell, her mother, was a half-blood witch, just like Ophelia, and she understood what her daughter was going through. "I can't believe it." They were the only words coming out of her mouth. Every moment of this, Ophelia could tell, reminded her of her own experience, impeding on her ability to form words.

Ophelia's father, Mr. Northwell grinned. He was usually an introvert, but within his comfort zone, he was funny. "A witch!" He exclaimed. "If someone just twenty years ago had told me that I would marry a beautiful witch and have a perfect little one for a daughter, I would've called them insane. I still might. Though I don't regret any of my choices."

Mrs. Northwell, recovering, hooked an arm through her husband's and put a hand on her daughter's shoulder. "I'm proud of you, dear. I never thought about how my own children would come here one day." She hesitated. "And if anyone tells you that you don't belong, know that you have magic in your blood."

Though Ophelia didn't understand, she nodded, knowing her mother only wanted her to be prepared. She squeezed them in a hug one more time before turning to little Felix. He smiled at her again and she took his hands in hers.

"I'm going to be gone for a long time, okay? You have to take care of Galleon all by yourself. You can do that, right, Felix?" I said.

The boy nodded. "Galleon won't even notice you're gone!" He exclaimed, then his excitement faltered. "But I will."

"Aww." Hugging the little boy tightly, I tousled his hair in the way he didn't like and he raised his hand to bat mine away. Letting him go, I held him by the shoulders and stared deep into his eyes which were so unlike mine. "I'll be back before you know it, promise."

Taking ahold of her trunk, Ophelia waved goodbye to her family and dragged the heavy luggage into the train just as it began moving. She was officially a Hogwarts student now. And I have magic in my blood.
