Quidditch Hogwarts vs Durmstrang - Summer 2023

Clark had a ferocious look struck across his face as he ran out onto the field preparing himself for a nightmare of a game. He needed to prove that Hogwarts was definitely better than Durmstrang and Ilvermony. Not that he had a problem with them currently, but he just didn't want to admit defeat to them.

It was time. Alaric clutched his broom as he made his way onto the field, it was all or nothing and Alaric always gives his all. No matter what he is doing. He cast a look at his teammates, there were some he recognised from around school and some he had no clue who the heck they were. Especially this one boy, he has dark hair? Name is like Arj-something. Well, he could be attending Koldovstoretz for all Alaric knew!

Alaric turned his thoughts to the game. It was time to beat these Badgers! His face curled into a smirk. There was no way on Gods green earth that this team was letting Hufflepuff claim victor!

Tesla couldn't believe it. It was her first quidditch game ever! She'd tried so hard all year practicing her bludger hits, and it was finally time. Sure, she had nothing on older students, and she was going to likely be benched for the duration, but she was bouncing on her toes with excitement. At least she hoped she'd be benched. Flying would be great, but not if one of her teammates were hurt. Oh well, she was sure this would be a good, clean game! Fingers crossed.

Arjan was FURIOUS. There was no other emotion that would be suitable for this. He was absolutely livid. This was completely and utterly ridiculous! He kicked the bench, throwing his broom onto the ground by it as he huffed and puffed. How dare he get benched again? Did they learn nothing? So what if he hit fellow students in practice or training sessions when they sucked? They deserved it. They should just be stronger, be better.

But to put him - the glorious Arjan Oberoi - as a second-string?! To bench the greatest quidditch player that ever lived? What was wrong with them! So much! He was literally the best beater to have ever walked the planet! And this match was against his mortal enemies - the Hogwarts team that his foolish younger sister had been a part of and was a supporter of. It was literally those Hufflepuffs she kept bragging about. That guy [Howard] in his cabin was playing and Arjan really just wanted to whip the smile off his face.

He also really wanted to see her expression when he knocked her precious friends off their brooms with bludgers in their face! Sadly, he was not going to get the chance because some fool decided to bench him and give his spot to some dumb little puny kid [Alaric] who looked like a twig that Arjan could snap in one arm. This was ridiculous.

Arjan huffed and puffed, sitting down on a bench that he had not kicked without bothering to pick up his broom that lay somewhere nearby. He treated the antique like trash. At this point, his silent brooding was a clear sign not to talk to him. Not that it would stop a certain Durmstrang brat that Arjan refused to call his friend even though he was [Slava].

In the role of Beater, if an ALLY dodges a bludger during the round, there is a 20% chance that you catch that bludger with your bat and you send it at a RANDOM enemy target.

Note: For the rules lawyers out there: you are not considered your own ally.

In the role of Beater, if you critically hit with a bludger, instead of doing double-damage you do 2.5x damage. If you critically fail with your bludger attempt to hit, rather than having your bludger randomly target another user (including yourself or an ally) the bludger cannot target you on a critical fail (but it can still target your allies). On a re-target, there is a random roll for target and then a fresh accuracy roll.

There was a nervous bounce to her step as Avery took to the pitch. Brushing a strand of wet hair from where it fell in front of her eyes, she took a quick survey of the field. The attempt to catch a quick glimpse of the opposing team was likely not as subtle as she hoped. It was hard not to hear the stories of Durmstrang's Quidditch team within the sporting circles she'd come to find herself in. And can confirm. They definitely looked about as intimidating as she'd imagined.

The Hufflepuff takes a deep, shuddering breath to try and calm the beating of her heart. As excited as she was to have her first start in a game, it was a hell of a game to do so. Avery mounts her broom and tries to ignore the nervous fluttering in her chest as best she can in favor of plastering on a smile. Intimidating or not, they could still pull this off. Just like before.

The time had finally come! One Howard had been both excited and apprehensive for. Hogwarts versus Durmstrang! It was their chance not only to represent House Hufflepuff, but the entire school. The pressure was high, but as he approached the pitch the usually game day calm would wash over him. Durmstrang had a killer Quidditch team (even if Howard hated a handful of them) and today was going to be a tough one for his team. However, regardless of the outcome, he couldn't be more proud of this team and the season they had. Win or loss they would see it through together!

"Alright, Hufflepuff!" Howard turned and addressed his teammates. "Remember to stay focused and play hard, but most of all, remember to have some damn fun!" He shouted with a huge smile splitting his face. With a quick turn he hopped onto his broom and shot into the air.

There was the familiar gloom surrounding the boy with the stoic face as the Swede tugged his jersey into place. The glaring number '2' on his back an obvious reminder, a mockery of sort of where his place stood yet in the team. The fact he was at the whims of another player. His eyes narrowed as long, graceful fingers wrapped around his broom and he pushed outside onto the playing field. He didn't mind resting on the bench first, it would give him the opportunity to get to know all the players and they playing styles. Though he could already judge based on the little he could see as first impressions were miles ahead.

So Nichlas did what he would have to do, sit down next to the rest of his benched team, keeping his distance from the angry lad named Arjan, as he kept his cold focused game on the players already pushing off the ground at the signal of the moderator. His gaze found Greta and he couldn't help the smug smile finding its way onto his face upon laying eyes on her. At long last they were on the same side of things. There was a part of his mind weighing the probabilities of which Durmstrang Chaser would lose control first, plummeting to what would be their likely demise if it wasn't for the watchful eyes and magical aid. Perhaps it would be her, Greta, who appeared to be young. At the thought of someone young his gaze immediately flitted over to their Beater, Alaric, whom he had met quite recently. He was little more than a child and would likely end up clinging to his broom for his dear life quite soon. But perhaps he should draw his attention to their opponents first, after all it could end up being of importance to figure them out ahead of time.

Their beaters struck out, one of them was tall and broad, unnaturally so and it was a constant reminder that the Hogwarts school of Wizardry allowed half breeds and otherwise challenged individuals to attend their classes and live among their students. Avoid that one, his mind supplied as his gaze wandered further. None immediately stuck out as special, cocky perhaps and some excited for the game but at first gaze nothing out of the ordinary. A sigh escaped him as he leaned back, his hand still readily on his broom as if he could expect to be called in at any moment. He was calm and showed no hinds of excitement or anxiety. This game was just a distraction to battle boredom and of course a way to show his superiority among his peers. He smiled a smile that failed to reach his eyes as he waited for the signal that would start the game.

Astrid was sitting on the bench, her broom resting on her legs. She was wearing Durmstrang's Quidditch uniform and had styled her hair in a way that it won't bother her. The game was late in the afternoon, and Astrid actually preferred it like that. She knew that her sister and two of her cousins were in the crowd, with her friends. If she gets to go in the sky, she won't be disappointing them.
The girl cheered with the crowd when the players went high in the air. She was already looking for the snitch, even when she was seating on the bench.

Slava was beyond excited. It was his first Quidditch game in so long—it had taken him a while to get his grades up like his mother had asked before he could rejoin the team. He didn’t mind that he was second-string, nor did he mind that he wasn’t playing in his favored position. When there had been a vacancy that needed filling for a second-string Keeper, he had leapt on it instantly. Had he waited a little bit longer, he would’ve been able to obtain the second-string Beater position instead, but he hadn’t known that at the time—he had just wanted to be on the team again. And right now, he was happy to be involved again and to be cheering on his teammates with the possibility of playing again. Of course he wanted to be in the sky, flying like the rest of them were, but he didn’t want any of his teammates to be hurt—especially not Johannes, who he was second-string for.

The team had been shuffled around significantly in the last few days, something that was quite unexpected. Amina had been injured, bumping Greta up to first-string, and someone Slava was significantly less familiar with had been selected to fill the second-string. Cielle had left after Slava had already been accepted back onto the team as the second-string Keeper, so he had watched a little third year become second-string Beater. Slava bore no resentment towards him—he just wasn’t that kind of person. But he had to admit he was disappointed when Arjan had been dumb enough to attack his own teammates, relegating him to second-string and bumping that Alaric kid up to first-string. Arjan was one of their strongest—they needed him out there, not an inexperienced eleven year old.

Still, Slava was supportive of most of his teammates, regardless of how well they did or their personalities, because at the end of the day, they were his teammates. The only exception was this new guy, Alaric—a good for nothing, insolent little racist. Nevertheless, the younger boy’s presence would not be able to ruin Slava’s mood today, because it was game day. As the match was about to begin, he went around offering fist bumps or a half-hug to anyone on his team who would take it, along with smiles and words of encouragement. When he got to Johannes, he grinned. “Make sure I’m not needed, friend,” he said in Russian. And he hoped he wouldn’t be. The pair of Keepers had somewhat got ready together, with Johannes doing Slava’s eyeliner in a way similar to his own, as if Slava was completing some sort of mini initiation. Undoubtedly, a few specks of Slava’s glitter would’ve managed to make its way onto Johannes’s clothes beforehand in return, even if the bags of glitter were left behind for the game. The two even had adjacent numbers, Slava taking the 6 to Johannes’s upside down 5. Just because Keeper wasn’t the Russian’s favorite position didn’t mean he couldn’t have fun with it and use it as an excuse to further hang out with Johannes.

He watched as his first-string teammates flew into the sky, taking position, and he sat down on the bench, eagerly watching. He had unceremoniously plonked himself down between the other two boys, grinning brightly despite the strange, unsettling aura of one—although it did make him feel uneasy—and the apparent anger of the other. «Как дела?» “How are you doing?”/“What’s up?” he asked Arjan, completely ignoring the other’s clearly foul mood. He knew the answer would probably consist of swearing or ignoring him, but didn’t much care. The only way Arjan would likely be happier was if that new Beater was out of the sky. Still, that didn’t mean Slava couldn’t still talk to him. He had to find some way to keep himself occupied, after all.
