Summer Camp - Sugar Fair

It seemed quite the group was forming at the Sugar Fair. Kit hadn't fully realized her invitation to join earlier, preoccupied with looking at some of the other stalls and picking out some desserts from there- a cookie from one, a (non-acid) lollipop for later. She still winced a little bit with each taste of her current lollipop, but it was getting better as she grew used to the burning sensation. Perhaps she wouldn't have taste buds by the end of it, but it was an enjoyable treat for now- she could worry about her future self later.

Her attention began to gather towards the group as more and more people were called over, especially so when it was just based on physical descriptors. It would be once the first blond-haired girl was called over (Serena), that Kit would end up joining the crew hoping that that was okay- if not, she had plenty of sweets to distract herself with instead! A small pat to her hair just to make sure it was still secure in the buns before she sidled up to join in the conversation. "Pastries, huh? Looks delicious." She'd free her hands of the acid lollipop by sticking it into her mouth before grabbing one of strawberry pastries and exchanging the confectionary with a token.

It was then that EmmaLee joined the group, Kit offering a wave before her curiosity spiked at the accent when she spoke. The Beauxbatons student wouldn't ask quite yet, but it was certainly on her mind as the other also hyped up the quality of these pastries, making the girl wonder if she should buy another just in case. Perhaps she could come back later in the day if she still had tokens available at that point. Otherwise the questions would continue, listening along for the time being until she could find an appropriate time to interject her own answers or offer introductions as necessary.

"It's been pretty fun- a little hard to decide on the first day here, but it seems like they have a bunch of exciting activities prepared." She'd vaguely gesture to the area around them as an indication of the plans in store, pretty happy that the planners had decided on this. Sweets were always good! "I like my cabin- it's super red, though, I guess instead of gray or few decorations. It's a pretty nice place, actually, and I've enjoyed meeting my new cabinmates. They seem nice!... mostly." Perhaps it was just first day shyness, shaking her head lightly at the thought. Most of them had been kind and open, but some seemed rather closed off- still there was plenty of time for that to change. "Oh, I'm in the Hippogriff Cabin!" She had forgotten that bit of information until Zophyr asked, giving them an appreciative smile.

She'd let others offer their houses before adding in her own. "I'm from Beauxbatons- speaking of which, EmmaLee! Are you French? I feel like the accent fits but I can't be sure. I hope that's not a rude question to ask, your voice sounds lovely!" Kit felt familiar with the accent both as someone who listened to others with a stronger accent all the time and as someone who had slowly gained that light French accent herself, although her accent skewed very general American which was likely more noticeable upon first interactions than the French. Despite that, Kit didn't recognize the other, hoping that they didn't actually go to the same school. How upsetting it would be to have no familiarity or even general awareness of another Beauxbatons student.

Reuben smiled at Hiro as he bought a blueberry pastry. "This does taste pretty good! Thanks for the recommendation Tone." The boy then proceeded to ask him if he'd been to Hogwarts before and Reuben shook his head. "Nope, this is my first time here, and I have a feeling that I'll keep coming because of how good this place is. Not that I like the portkey though, those are just weird.", he responded. Reuben wondered if Tone was elder than him due to the fact that he seemed to have visited Hogwarts before, but to Reuben, age did not matter in friendships.

When Tone asked him if he was just going to look around before getting something else, Tone shrugged. "Might get myself another one of these awesome pastries, but I wouldn't like to eat too much sweet stuff, might be harmful.", he said. It wasn't like he cared very much, but he knew too much sweets in one day would be bad, and he tended to care very much about such advice.

After some time, another girl entered the fair and Tone was quick to call her over and recommend the pastries to her. After she introduced herself, Reuben smiled, "Hey EmmaLee! I think I'm going to call you Em. I'm Reuben!", he said.

When the girl asked if they were having a good time at camp, Reuben nodded vigorously. "It's only the first day, and I already LOVE camp. There are so many new people to meet and be friends with!" As Tone explained how their cabin was, Reuben nodded, "Yeah, it's not the best decoration-wise, but I like it!", he agreed.

Zophyr listened with interest (while munching away at their pastry) as everyone talked about their cabins and how they were enjoying the camp so far, nodding along. EmmaLee, it seemed, liked cooking and baking as much as Tone and Zophyr themselves, so the Uagadou student made a mental note to do something food-wise together at some point.

As it turned out, though, they'd been right about EmmaLee's French accent. A Beauxbatons girl asked if she was French, to which the blondie responded that she'd grown up in France but went to Hogwarts now. Zophyr nodded. "That's very interesting." It meant they had two more people they knew that could speak French as well. Zophyr had never been to France, but had been to many countries that spoke the language, and their parent's mother tongue was French. So... they spoke it quite well. It was nice to know they weren't the only one.

It was rather interesting to hear where everyone came from. Tone was a Mahoutokoro student, Reuben and Zophyr were obviously from Uagadou, while the other two were Beauxbatons and Hogwarts students. Tone said something about how Zophyr was more interested in the schools than the cabins, which reminded the soon-to-be second year of something. "Actually, I go by they/them at the moment," they corrected their friend, not unkindly. "It's nice to get to know you guys, though!" It was a decent compliment, especially coming from Zophyr, who didn't like people too much. But these guys were cool. They were glad they'd met them.

The people who had planned out summer camp sure had planned out everything, hadn't they? I was excited to start eating loads of candy for one night, and see if I could save any for later, if I could. I'd tried wizard sweets before, and I loved how different and creative they were from muggle sweets. So, even though I was very tired from getting here, I was feeling a little giddy just being here. And hey, maybe the sugar crash will help me sleep.

I patiently stood in line for getting my tokens, and when I approached the brunette girl giving out the tokens. I took them with a smile and a "Thank you!" moving forward to get a small fraction of the sugary goodness that awaited. Holding my 50 tokens, I looked around at all the stalls to see if I could find some of my favourite sweets. I decided to spend some of my tokens on loads of peppermint toads.

Very quickly, I realised just how big of a hole I'd burned in my token bag. What was it, 30 tokens left? Whoops! I decided to see if I could share my sweets with anyone else at the sugar fair if they wanted to try them. I ate one peppermint toad from the ones I already had, and I had forgotten how good they were. I had also forgotten the extremely weird feeling of them jumping around in your stomach. I decided to converse with some of the other students at camp.

But first, these peppermint toads. Obviously, I wasn't going to eat all 20 of them, but I decided to eat another one, trying my best to stay upright while they were still jumping around in my stomach.

"Yeah! I only briefly glanced through the itinerary, but I'll take your word for it." She laughed lightly, a grin spreading across her face. "This is certainly a good way to start." The girl would end up deciding to buy another pastry, going for an apple one this time as she gave one of her tokens in return. She wouldn't eat either quite yet, instead keeping both as a treat for later- two flavors would be good, now Kit could explore and see what other stalls there were once the group started moving. For now, she invested her time into the conversation at hand with a tilt of her head towards EmmaLee.

"Oh, Dragon- even the name sounds cool." Kit had very little experience with cooking or baking, instead letting Tone take up the talking as she reached into the bag offered and grabbed one of the candies. It seemed rude to not try it right now, switching out the acid pop and popping in the hard candy. Her taste buds, or the ones that still survived, appreciated the transition to the sweeter flavors, the sweetness of the honey balancing the stronger taste of the lavender. "These are so good, thank you! I don't do much cooking or baking, but it seems like a useful skill to have- especially if you're getting cookies or candies out of it." She grinned, already imagining the array of possibilities- perhaps something to work on during the rest of her summer when she did have access to a full kitchen and some help from her family or friends. The grin only grew larger at EmmaLee's compliment towards the group, ducking her head lightly in a form of acknowledgement. "Yeah, I can't wait- it'll be fun!"

"Ohh, alright! That's pretty neat- lots of travel then, how long were you in New York before staying in Glasgow?" The house pride was interesting, more used to school pride overall than individual groups, but it was interesting to note and a bit of a look into potential characteristics if Kit could accurately remember what each house stood for. She'd also offer a bit of her own travels, highlighting where her interest stemmed from. "Yeah, I grew up in Los Angeles before moving to Lyon- so kind of the opposite path to yours and with a few less steps. Was the transition challenging?" As for the other half of the Hufflepuff's story... "Potions are pretty cool though- never had much skill for it myself, so his accomplishments are even more impressive."

"Right??" Her attention suddenly turned towards Reuben, mild exasperation crossing her face even as she kept her grin. "I wish they weren't so dizzying every time- don't really like the idea of starting off camp sick, even if they are super quick. Your trip was probably further away though, how was that?" Kit wasn't entirely sure how distance correlated with portkeys, if it didn't factor in at all or if it changed the time of travel and overall sickness, but perhaps the Uagadou student would be able to clue her in- then again, it might be hard to share notes when neither had gone on both trips. As for the warning about sweet stuff, the girl ignored it- he was being smart, but this was a Sugar Fair! She could deal with the consequences later. And to Zophyr, she would nod lightly in acknowledgement, a smile on her face. "Good to know, and same to you!"

And with that, it was time to look into more desserts. While Tone went to look for cookies, Kit made her way over to a different stand that Cassie set up. Blue-green eyes scanned the candies first before she looked at the prices, her smile only growing bigger once she read through it. "20 candies for 1 token? That's sounds like a deal." She handed over her token before choosing her selection, opting for a nice array of colors rather than worrying about guessing flavors for the time being. Once she amassed a whole rainbow would she start looking for gradient candies, picking some up until the 20 candy limit had been reached. "Thank you so much- and I hope you enjoy the rest of the fair, too!" With that, the girl made her way back over to the group as other shops were recommended. "There's a whole selection of candies too over there- and some other baskets of chocolates and lollipops." She indicated over to Cassie's stall before popping one of the new candies into her mouth.

"Mm, I haven't seen anything? But that would be good to have, yeah." Kit offered an apologetic look before glancing around the area to see if anything stood out. It wouldn't, at least not for her, giving up her search after a few moments to glance towards some of the other stalls.
