Miss Maggie Hawkins, for the past two years, had been Slytherin Chaser on the Quidditch Team. Anyone who was anyone (at least, anyone who had watched her games before) could tell you that she was a serial cheater. Not the best way to play a game, but Maggie had always considered herself to be above the rules.

Since childhood, her competitive streak had certainly won out against all other impulses. While playing games with family, she had developed a nasty habit of flipping tables, cursing, crying, and icing out the winner.

She was the sorest loser known to man.

One instance stands out above the rest: Monopoly. December 9. 2016. Hanukkah, day 3. Maggie was seated with her mother and three family friends, laughing and enjoying their night under the light of the menorah, simply pleased to be in one another's company. By now, Maggie's mother knew better than to beat her at a game, especially one as silly as Monopoly, of all things. There was no need to ruin the night with something as dumb as that. It was clear to all that Saoirse was taking it easy on her young daughter, who boasted an impressive collection of properties and little houses stacked haphazardly upon each other. She didn't quite understand what the game entailed or what those houses were for, surprising nobody.

Except, of course, her mother's work friend, Sheila.

"Aaaaand that's another house for me," Maggie jeered, grabbing one of the tiny plastic safety hazards and stuffing it in between the three she already had on St. Charles Place.

Sheila laughed, cocking her head to the side. "Yeah, but Mags, you didn't pay for that. That's not how it works."

"Yes, that is, too, how it works, Shei-luh."

The woman across from her didn't seem to notice Saorise's urgent hand motions, beckoning her to stop. On the other side of her mother, Kieran, a longtime friend, shook his head violently. "No, honey. I don't think you're playing the game right. See, you keep taking money from the bank when you aren't supposed to. And you're not paying for any properties, you're just grabbing them as you pass. See--" Sheila reached forward to show Maggie, fingertip touching a house to drag it away.

Maggie didn't take this well. Not at all. She hollered and dissolved into immediate tears, a kneejerk reaction from a girl who would grow up to handle tough situations with similar flippancy and dramatics. The Monopoly board was kicked to the ground, scattering pieces all over the living room floor.

Suffice to say Monopoly has been shelved ever since.

Maggie's bad losing attitude has followed her to Hogwarts, it seems. Now, with a new outlet--being Quidditch--she's taken to a new method of winning. Cheating. Blatching, subtle kicks, hair pulling (if necessary): she's done it all. Naturally, if you fuck around with cheating so much, you're bound to develop a talent for it.

Ever since she was little Clair had a fear of being alone, and for a good reason. At eight her 'father' died and her family was only made up of her sisters and her mother. Soon after that her closest muggle friend decided that their friendship was over and again Clair was left in the dust.

As her sisters grew older they started to live their lives and go out and hang out with friends when they were not at hogwarts. Again Little Clair was left to spend time with her imagination and her mother. Which was fine, but could get lonely. When Clair was in her first year her sister's boyfriend started to take up more of Belle's (the sister) time and Izzy (her other sister) Moved away to live with a friend in the city again Clair felt she was being forgotten. When her Mother passed away later in her first year that was the last straw. Clair needed to do something to make sure that not everyone would forget or leave her.

Sadly with all the crazy-ness of Hogwarts and life, The idea of finding something slipped her mind, that is until Christmas 2022. When the remaining family, mainly complied of Belle, Josh (Belle's now husband) Clair, Ffion (her grandmother) and Kiwi the cat, were sitting around the Christmas tree and Belle gave Clair a book wrapped in silver paper. When she unwrapped it she found that it was a book. Inside was short stories that Belle had written out of her time at Hogwarts. As soon as Belle had realized what the book was she realized that instead of giving it to Clair, that gift had been meant to go to Josh. Of course Clair did not want to give it up and made sure that she was able to snag a page before Belle snatched the book away.

It was not until later that night that Clair would read the page, and her time old idea of something to make she was never alone was raised again. On the page Clair had snagged, Belle mentioned one of her friends having a 'mark of the devil' which allowed all the others marked with that to talk to each other via a magic word. The idea was enticing and as soon as she got back to Hogwarts she was in the school library looking for anything that would talk about something like that.

After many hours she found the first mention of the binding mark and after that she was able to find more info. Info like how to get it and what it could do. Clair, being the ravenclaw that she is, decided to think on it before doing anything about it. After much time spent thinking it over, Clair decided that it really did seem like a good way to do it and got ready to give it a go.

Perfectionism is verry probably present in all parts of the world (Mari doesn't know the muggle world, but at least the magical world, ( witches and wizards, were and tended to be more... )

Mari always had the ambition to never fail, in everything (spells, potions, drawing... basically... EVERYTHING)!
Mari remembers that since the first year she cried with rage when she didn't get the grade she wanted, Mari always wanted to be perfect in everything, or better not to talk about anything! But in magic... Mari was completely obsessed with not making a mistake, as the slightest mistake could cause catastrophic damage... Mari already had this mentality since a very, very young age, because her parents, as they are witches, are very well known for everything they know. they already did and conquered, they always put a lot of pressure on Mari to never make a mistake, every mistake that Mari made was like the "end of the world"!

Her obsession with not failing at anything has been increasing, and also for her physical and mental health, it would be better for Mari to have a skill, which at least reduces the possibility of failing, so that she can relax a little more. In her drawings, for example, Mari if she draws something badly, usually/most of the time, she would throw the drawing in the trash and make another one, because if it is to be done, and it takes time, it has to be more than perfect!! Mari in magic, did everything to make it work, for example in spells, she pronounced and moved the wand in the best possible way, and always / most of the time she did very well! Her first year went beautifully, the second was also going well, but Mari couldn't relax for a minute, not to do the wrong things, this was already affecting Mari's mental health TOO MUCH, she just wanted to stop, or rather reduce it..., because the outcome could be tragic!

The voices in Mari's head saying "You got a 40/42...really!? You have to have A![/b] YOU CAN'T MISS", Mari started to have that mentality too, mistakes would not be allowed in her head her determination, ambition and dedication that Mari had were to be commended, anyone who has known Mari forever NEVER saw her not dedicating herself, not working on any job she has, with perfectionism also always present.

Describe Why This Fits Your Character:

Witty and charismatic, August had never been known to lose his calm or start arguments. Growing up in a pureblood household, he quickly adapted a charming persona and silver tongue that was necessary for such a life as one he led. Attending frequent pureblood balls and such, he was as cordial as could be. However, he didn’t always use this silver tongue of his for good. He, at times, could make quite a bit of mischief, talking his peers into practically whatever he wanted, and talking adults into letting him into places he wasn’t necessarily supposed to be. One instance stands out above the rest.

August’s father and paternal grandmother were hosting their annual pureblood ball. The younger children in attendance were not allowed into the main hall where all the adult wizards congregated. Instead, they were put together in a smaller room in which they could be around their peers for the night. The children were all having a good time, when August motioned for two friends of his to follow him away from the group.

“Let’s go into the main hall,” said the boy, who was ten years old at the time.

The other two looked unsure, glancing at each warily.

“Come on now, what’s the harm?” August asked. “We wouldn’t be doing anything wrong, and besides, we’re nearly Hogwarts age.“

Through a few more persuasive words, the other two were soon fully committed to August’s plan to sneak in. The door to the main hall was not being watched by anyone, and it was already cracked open slightly. It was easy for them to slip inside unnoticed. Inside, they observed the many people dancing, talking, and just having a good time.

“See?” August said. “There’s no reason we shouldn’t have been allowed in here in the first place!”

One of the other boys nodded and said, “I can’t believe we aren’t allowed here. It’s not fair that we have to stay and practically babysit the younger kids.”

August’s eyes took on a mischievous glint. “What do you say we have some fun? We should take all the adult’s wands.”

They whirled around to face him bewildered. “We agreed to sneaking in, not stealing wands! What would we even do with them anyway? It’s not like we could use them.”

August shrugged, “Hide them.”

Needless to say, the ball was cut short when several witches and wizards noticed they were without wands. August had a great time sneaking the wands away from the wizards with his friends, but somehow, only his friends got caught. August himself walked away from the situation blameless and his friends never contradicted the story that August had nothing to do with the scheme.

Everything Maeve does in life is with purpose and a level of diligence. It wasn't always that way, but she found that life was much easier with certain systems in place. Small things like brushing her teeth after breakfast and before bed or making sure tea steeps according to its type and at the right temperature. These rituals are her way of taking control of situations in her life where she feels very much out of control otherwise. These are things within her reach, small actions that she cat achieve on her own terms while much of her existence feels out of it. Again, this is the exaggeration of youth, but being given choices to outcomes that are set doesn't feel like freedom to her, so she takes every inch she can. Her mother is strict and wants her to have every opportunity possible. This gets translated into the micromanaging of her time she wishes she could spend playing.

From the need to make her letters perfect when writing, to gaining the proper fingering and breathing for the bagpipes, she has never been one to cut corners when following her path. She is the type to practice until it makes perfect. Although kinder on the soul, progress alone is insufficient for her personal standards. Much of this has been internalized from studying her mother's reaction to the world around them. She wants to be perfect and wants to achieve great things. Parts of her wanted nothing more than to fulfill that vision of her mother, but more than anything, she wants to do so on her terms. With her mother often at the Ministry, Maeve must learn from a series of tutors under the watchful eye of her governness, Miss Rose. Spending more time with the brunette, she often sees her progress as a way to gain her mother's attention. After all, her successes tend to bring forth her mother to witness it. Sadly this attention is always short lived, making her strive for more, from trying spells with her newly acquired wand, to memorizing plants and potion ingredients to answer properly during their weekly "family" dinners.

Even when she lacks interest in something, she does her best to achieve it. Some might call it pride, but a significant component of that is spite. Accomplishing something with success brings satisfaction the task might not have held otherwise. It's not in the fabric of her being not to place her best foot forward. Failure is not something she views as an option, to the point where her very boggart would be represented in a figure of importance in her life giving her news of failure. She values herself by her ability to produce, thus being incapable, or considered as much would come with great offense.

Akari’s father was the person she looked up to most in life, the person she wholeheartedly trusted with anything and everything no matter what.

Since she was a little girl she was always fascinated with him. He would always be the one to bravely chase the scary monsters out that had obviously been lurking under her bed, and the one who would protect her from the angry thunderstorms that roared and came crashing down during dark and stormy nights. She just felt safe when he was near, and she knew no harm could ever come to her when he was around.

However, his erratic job often kept him away. Sometimes days and weeks would pass without Akari seeing her father, during which she had only his precious letters to console her.

Being an Auror was one of Ryo Kato’s biggest prides. He loved it with every fiber of his being, and as he always told Akari his passion for it all began at Hogwarts. He would always return home with the most daunting tales and trials, though perhaps slightly altered and tailored to suit the ears of his audience, and Akari would soak up each and every one of his words with such curiosity and enthusiasm.

So naturally, upon enrolling in Hogwarts Akari’s interest was especially peaked when it came to the subject of Defence Against the Dark Arts. Slowly as time progressed, the more she learnt, the more she became captivated with it. Every bit of it excited her. From the history, to the spells, to the theories, it all lured her in. Though it may have started as something that she could share and have in common with her father, day by day she found herself unexplainably more drawn towards it.

As Akari’s third year at Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry came around, her presence around school began to dwindle drastically. She appeared at fewer and fewer events, dropped out of quidditch, then even left the newspaper, all of which were things she had previously enjoyed immensely, but she had suddenly abandoned each of them, with little to no explanation.

Instead, nowadays you could often find her nose in some sort of reading material, whether it be a book on the history of dark arts, or a newspaper talking about the latest conflicts, or even re-reading her father’s letters to her regaling her of his quests. If it was related to defence against the dark arts she would snatch it up without a second thought. Though she had not necessarily been an avid homework enjoyer prior, almost overnight, the work she had for her Defence Against the Dark Arts class became exciting and it was becoming her top priority.

Akari had buried herself into this world and she was not turning back anytime soon. She wanted more knowledge, more books, more stories, anything she could grasp her hands around. She was absorbing every single detail she could find, and it was no longer a mere interest to her. It was turning into a passion. She loved it, and knew that her connection to it ran deeper than just a random school subject.

So, she began to practice. Whether it was asking older students to briefly lend her their books, or staying back after class for a few moments, anything to help her improve no matter how big or small. Akari had decided, knowing exactly what she wanted to do when she got older. She would follow in her father’s footsteps. And she wanted to be one of the best. So what better time to start than the present.

Y4 Ability - Cat's Grace
Reducio
From a very young age Akari’s personality naturally leaned on the more quiet side. Contrary to how people assume it was because she was just shy, it was actually more a force of habit. She had always been a small and petite girl, and as such had a way of effortlessly being very light on her feet at all times.

It was never something she had ever attempted to do on purpose, but it had been especially noticeable when she was a little girl, always slipping into small nooks, or past people without anyone noticing, constantly giving her parents the biggest frights, to which little Akari had found utterly hilarious. If an eye was not kept on her consistently, she would pop up beside someone without them realizing, causing them to pause and think to themselves good and hard for a few moments, wondering how she had gotten there as well as how long she had been there. But if she had ever been questioned she would simply giggle and shrug it off while grinning ear to ear.

Funnily enough, little Akari also excelled when playing games such as ‘Hide and Go Seek’ with her muggle friends. When it came to her turn to be the hider, the others would always spend an exceptionally long time trying to figure out where she had disappeared off to. She was strangely just a little too good at it. Oftentimes almost seeming as if she had vanished into thin air.

As Akari got older unknowingly she began to slightly use the advantages of this skill for small things here and there. Her ability to sneak around with great ease became very useful when it came to things such as her sisterly duty to annoy and steal things from her brother, or listening in on her parents' conversations when she wasn’t supposed to, or even staying up far past her bedtime. All these little things that she was able to get away with because of this graceful and nimble quality she had developed.

But Akari genuinely never really gave this knack of hers much thought, since it always came as second nature to her. However, her subconscious slightly believed otherwise. Deep deep down, she could not shake a lingering feeling of skepticism. It was just something about the reactions that people had had that planted a tiny thought that quietly lurks somewhere in the depths of her mind, whispering on about a suspicion that there may be something more to it than she understands.

Lea had witnessed spells splitting before, either in the uncontrollable way that wind sometimes brought or the calculated practice popular among duellists. The unintentional, while more dramatic, was not nearly as intriguing as following the footsteps of others and learning how to intentionally and (mostly) safely target two with one spell. It seemed like the next goal, the yearly cycle Lea found herself in as she found new skills and practices from the duelling room or classes that interested her enough to pour her free time into the topic. There was already an easy order of steps to go through, except that now she could add in an initial step of observation. Throughout the stages, Lea watched the higher years' dueling in the hopes that they would split their spells. It seemed a decent amount of them knew how (perhaps there was a later class on it?), but actually seeing the difference proved more challenging. Still, the girl got some notes that she could go over throughout the summer and beginning of her fourth year.

Since summer meant no spellcasting, the Hufflepuff would research instead, piling up on as many books both on spells she'd want to split and the technique or mindset needed. And Lea had plenty of time to read. From memorizing spell incantations and wand movements without a wand to adding onto her observations with notes from the texts, her free time was often spent looking into this subject unless people were over or her parents told her to go outside and get some sunlight and exercise. Perhaps not the most interesting activity during a break but it meant that once the next school year started, Lea felt prepared.

The first few weeks of fourth year were spent getting readjusted to Hogwarts life but as she found her cadence between school, extracurriculars, and social meetings, Lea could spend more time in the dueling club with two targets set up away from the rest. Her practice began with Tarantallegra as it was one of the first spells she had learned and wouldn't be too challenging to cast. She'd start just with one spell, keeping focus on aim as she targetted the dummies individually. Then it was two separate spell casts, distinct yet in rapid succession, that forced her to quickly shift her attention and sight as the two spells flew directly towards their targets. Not quite the same, but it made for good practice with quick aim even if not as precise as simply casting one spell with one target.

Actually casting one spell for two targets would not come until much later, between frustratingly reading more books and practicing some more with no success. She had stared down these suits of armor many times now, her wand aimed between the two of them before the girl shouted out, "Tarantallegra!" And for once the visualization became reality as the red light split and arced to hit both squarely in the chest. Eyes widened in shock before she pumped her fist in celebration. There was an awkward moment where brown eyes glanced to make sure no one seemed confused or curious by her excitement before she'd continue her practice for the day with more success than before.

Quidditch was, to some degree, Koko's life.

She was horribly asocial for some of her time at Hogwarts, thinking that it was better ─ safer ─ to keep to herself and avoid everyone else. Koko had always been a bit anxious, worried, fearful, whatever you want to call it, but she had never before been so terrified... Especially not all of the time. Most of this came after the spiders attacked Slytherin's common room. Koko would never tell anyone that she still found herself affected by that experience... Yet now she finds herself flinching whenever she thinks she sees a shadow, and she goes multiple metres out of her way to avoid bugs whenever possible.

The only thing that kept her sane was Quidditch. Headliner writing, her former prefectship, she wouldn't have been able to do any of it without Quidditch. Being so high in the air made her forget about her problems on the ground, and on her broom, she actually felt strong. She didn't quite have the words for it, not really, but seated on her broom in front of the goalposts, her hands poised to block, she felt proud. Suddenly, she was self-assured in ways she had never been before. She had no fear in the air, no worry aside from the occasional need to catch falling teammates. The wind whipping through her hair calmed her, and her handling of the Quaffle might not have been perfect... but it was hers.

As she veered away from people, Koko began spending more time outside ─ specifically, she began spending more time at the Quidditch Pitch. She flew around on multiple brooms ─ first school brooms, then her Silver Arrow, then her Cleansweep 11. She learned the ins and outs of various manoeuvres such as the Starfish and Stick. She prided herself on her skill, which she began to hone the best she could. It was like any other sport, any other hobby ─ even, admittedly, like her beloathed French practice. She ensured she had the best form possible throughout the years, gathering immense stamina and increasing her accuracy even though her strength still needed work.

By her fifth year at Hogwarts, Koko was beginning to be dissatisfied with her performance. She was a Keeper. She was supposed to keep the goals. Despite her attempts, she felt like she could do better. Why block one score attempt when she could do more? Why even let the other team attempt to score? They shouldn't have been able to get past her in the first place.

If she wasn't good enough at Quidditch, then what was wrong with her? More importantly, if Koko wasn't good at Quidditch, who was she in the first place? She had made Quidditch her identity. She was Koko Riddle, Slytherin Keeper. Slytherin Co-Captain, eventually. She was supposed to be the example, the solid wall in front of the goalposts. And she wasn't.

Call her a perfectionist. Koko didn't think that was what she was. She was an overachiever, sure, but that had always been true. Ambition was a core tenet of the noble House of Slytherin. So what if Koko wanted to be better? So what if she intended to be the best?

Koko changed her routine to wake up as early as school rules would let her. She made her way to the Quidditch pitch every morning and practised to the best of her abilities. During the summer, she asked her family members to assist her. Her grandfather in particular was glad when she visited Leblanc Estates in Rioux-Martin, France, and asked him to help her prepare for her next year of Quidditch.

'Finally,' he said, 'you are doing something with your life.'

Suddenly, the French side of Koko's adoptive family were proud of her. She found herself having mock Quidditch games with her aunt, grandfather and mum, and this time, she actually felt valued. This motivated her more than anything ─ seeing a fond glint in her mum's gaze, hearing quiet, rare affirmations from her grandfather. Even her adoptive brothers joined the games, and Koko became even more adept on her brooms. She found herself reacting to her family's positive responses by becoming faster. Suddenly she took hits she hadn't been able to take before. She blocked shots that seemed impossible, like when her brother Charlie shot a Quaffle at her and she blocked it with her fingertip (which was very, very sore later).

On occasion, Koko was fast enough that she hardly realised she had blocked the goal before she had passed it to one of her family members ─ or, occasionally, one of their friends who had heard of the mock games and had come to assist. Once, Koko found the Quaffle in her possession, and after surveying the mock pitch, she decided she might be able to score if she was fast enough.

So she leaned forward and flew as fast as she could. The Silver Arrow could reach speeds of 68 miles per hour, and Koko certainly thought she reached those speeds when, as soon as she could blink, she was on the other side of the pitch, tossing the Quaffle through the makeshift goalposts.

Ding.

That evening at dinner, her grandfather smiled at her and told her he was proud of her. Her mum said that, if Koko wanted, she could become a formidable professional Quidditch player. Even her brothers, who didn't always agree with her, said she had been absolutely amazing earlier.

Of course, her Tata (aunt) Vienna was proud of her, but while Koko was grateful, that was normal. She had never had the entirety of the Leblanc family impressed by her, and it was, quite frankly, the best feeling of her life.

Koko would take her newfound speed and agility (and confidence) with her to Hogwarts next year, and she would remember the summer of 2023 as the best summer of her life.

Thank you!

Daphne sat in her cozy room at the Sapphirus Manor, flipping through her Defense Against the Dark Arts textbook. She loved learning about magical creatures and healing, but something was intriguing about the subject of Defense against the Dark Arts. Her father, Graham Sapphirus, being a dragonologist, had mentioned it in passing once, sharing stories of how some creatures could be dangerous if not handled properly. It sparked a curiosity within her. One evening, as Daphne sat by her desk, her older brother Cyrus strolled into the room with a cocky grin on his face. He was always full of stories from his adventures, and she couldn't help but be fascinated by his tales.

"Hey, Daphne," Cyrus said, plopping down on her bed. "Guess what I found today? My old Defense Against the Dark Arts textbook. It's filled with notes I took back when I was a student, I used to read ahead and get the latest versions all of the time, I wished to be an Auror." Daphne's eyes widened with excitement. "Really Cyrus? Can I see it? I promise to not mess the book up!" Cyrus smirked and handed over the textbook. "Sure thing, little sis. But remember, it's not for the faint of heart. If you want to help animals, you need to know how to defend not only them but yourself. I'll even help you with some of the spells."

Daphne eagerly flipped through the pages, her eyes scanning the spells and incantations. As she absorbed the knowledge within, she couldn't help but feel a surge of determination welling up within her. With Cyrus's notes and guidance, Daphne began to grasp the concepts faster than expected. She demonstrated a natural affinity for the subject, her dedication shining through her diligent practice and understanding of the spells. It was as if a hidden talent had been unlocked, allowing her to grasp the intricacies of Defense against the Dark Arts at an accelerated pace.

As she delved deeper into the spells and theories, Daphne realized that knowing Defense Against the Dark Arts one year ahead of her actual school year would be a significant advantage. She could learn spells taught in DADA classes before her peers, providing her with additional time to master them and refine her techniques. The more Daphne thought about it, the more it made sense. Her passion for magical creatures and healing had taught her the importance of protection and understanding the darker aspects of the magical world. She knew that having knowledge and skill in this subject would empower her to help others and keep them safe. She would prove that even a peaceful and kind-hearted Hufflepuff like her could be formidable when it came to protecting others.

From that moment forward, Daphne immersed herself in her studies, utilizing the knowledge passed down from her brother and her dedication to become an exceptional learner. She would seize the opportunity to learn the spells ahead of her school year, honing her skills and preparing herself to face the challenges that awaited her.

DO NOT POST HERE: Application for Magical Races/Talents and Special Abilities
Link to your encyclopedia thread : link
Name of Ability or Race/Talent that you Are Applying for : Nonverbal Magic
Describe why this fits your character (not why you the player want it) :
It wasn't uncommon for a family to select and hold at least one of it's youngests members to a higher expectation than the rest. The "golden child", the "gifted child" whatever one wanted to call it, that was the label that had been placed upon Illowy Magnard's shoulders. Just as it had been placed on her mother before her. There was the expectation that Illowy would come to even surpass the promising gifts that her own mother had displayed at her age, and Illowy, by this point in her adolescence, was only happy to oblige in showing up her own mother and proving herself to be a formidable force.

Illowy was a diligent young witch. Dedicated to her studies, and driven to succeed by a mixture of her own natural drive as well as the pressure not to disappoint her own family. After all, when one thinks so highly of one's family, the idea of disappointment was daunting, if not inconceivable. Especially when the expectations were so high and the most recent years had been full of nothing but disappointment. Perhaps she may have also had a bit of a chip on her shoulder as well, wanting to prove herself in some way... even if she wasn't sure who exactly she was trying to prove anything to.

Regardless, as she began to face down that she was entering her Sixth Year at Hogwarts, the buzz she'd had in prior years that she was a step ahead of her age group when it came to Charms and Transfiguration had worn away. She needed a new challenge. Some new skill that wasn't as easily achieved as simply doing well in her classes. Something that required a level of actual, real life skill. That was how her attentions landed on learning Nonverbal magic. Certainly a skill that would be a boone to someone like Illowy, who strived to protect, but understood there was a time and place where silence and discretion were gifts that shouldn't be wasted. Especially in a place like Hogwarts, there was no such thing as being too discrete when facing down any of the number of mysteries and dangers that seemed to lie in wait in every dark corner of the castle.

Beyond even that, she mostly longed to hone a skill that wasn't academically based. Something that required her own initiative. And if there was one thing anyone could grant to Illowy, it was that she had no qualms throwing herself into study and research. By this point she had her method of research down to a science and more then enough time and spite to spend hours hyperfocused on teaching herself.

After all, who else would be so willing to spend the many, many, long and frustrating hours driving themselves half insane practicing the simplest First Year spells like Lumos, over and over again if not to achieve something useful out of it? What could be a better delight then lighting one's wand without the utterance of a single word?

I was told I was dangerous. When I asked why, they said, "Because you don't need anyone." That's when I smiled.
