a New Cabin and a New Friend

Madi was really excited for Summer Camp to begin. She couldn't believe there was a Summer Camp at Hogwarts! She'd wanted to do it the moment she'd heard about it.
She walked over to her designated cabin, wondering who would also be in her cabin and if she would know any of them. She pulled open the door and stepped inside. Oh, no. She thought. It was an explosion of color and madness. Madi had no problem with lots of color or madness, but she hated the entrance. She didn't think the colors went well together, and she didn't want to climb or crawl everywhere.
She went to explore around the cabin, crawling through tunnels and climbing ladders, hoping she would find the one leading up to the bedrooms. She ended up in a little area with an orange couch and a rainbow mural. She actually really liked it. It looked like a nice place to just gather with two or three people. This was getting progressively better.
She eventually managed to leave the room, and came back to the entrance. There, she decided to take the stairs, and ended up where the bedrooms were! She stepped into an empty bedroom and placed her stuff on the bed. At the same time another girl did.

Estelle loved the chaos of the cabin. Most of the other students hated the bright colours and chaotic patterns but Estelle absolutely loved them. She began to explore the cabin.
Estelle climbed through tiny tunnels and hidey holes, slowly memorising the layout. It was confusing at first but she soon learn where most of the key locations were. She showed some other students around - many found the layout rather confusing.
Estelle decided to head for a bedroom and claim a bed. She was tired of lugging her heavy bags around and wanted to drop them so she could unpack and then explore further.
Estelle began to head for the bedrooms. She had almost memorised the layout by now, bot still took some wrong turns here and there. The cabin was confusing.
She crawled through a tunnel decorated with rainbow sprinkles and plonked her bags down on the large king-size bed.
So did someone else.
Estelle looked up at the girl. She was taller than Estelle and had long brown hair and brown eyes. Estelle liked her.
Estelle picked up her stuff and offered the girl the bed.
"Sorry about that, why don't you take this bed. I'll go to the room next door."
Estelle smiled.
"Oh yeah - I'm Estelle. What's your name?"@Madi McQuade

Madi turned to look at the girl who had also put her stuff down on the bed. She had short blonde hair and bright blue eyes. Madi recognized her as another student going into second year, and as the girl who had been quickest to navigate the cabin successfully and ask anyone else if they needed help.
She was also the girl who hadn't immediately hated the cabin. Madi had seen those kinds of looks on other members of Unicorn Cabin's faces, but not this girl. Madi liked that about her, but wasn't exactly sure why. She was one of the people that had not liked the cabin when first entering.
Seeing that another person had wanted the room, Madi lifted her stuff off the bed and was about to offer to change rooms, when the girl did it first.
"Sorry about that, why don't you take this bed. I'll go to the room next door." She offered.
"If you're sure. I don't mind moving." Madi said. She honestly didn't care at all where her bedroom was, but she didn't want the girl to feel pressured to change rooms if she wanted this room for a reason.
"Oh yeah - I'm Estelle. What's your name?" The girl introduced herself. She had a really pretty name.
"I'm Madi. I've seen you around during classes and stuff, but it's good to formally meet you." Madi smiled.

Estelle smiled at Madi and went to put her bags away in her new room. It was right next door to Madi's and was very similarly furnished.
Estelle hung up her clothes and tidied her wardrobe. Putting away clothes in a new place was a kind of ritual for her and she was glad there was a wardrobe. She'd been camping before and hated living out of a bag. The actual camping was fun though.
Estelle made her bed and changed into some more sensible clothes. She had arrived in a long dress as she had come from her friend's party. The dress was pretty, but not particularly sensible for a muddy summer camp. Luckily, she had plenty of clothes.
Estelle changed into some comfortable blue jeans and a pink cropped t-shirt. She then made her way back to Madi's, hoping she'd have a friend to explore the camp with. She wanted to get an idea of the layout and to see who had come to the camp. She hoped Madi would get along with whichever of her friends had come.
She knocked on the door to Madi's room and opened it.
"Do you wanna come explore the camp with me?"

When Estelle left the room, Madi began to unpack everything she had brought. She put a Ravenclaw banner that she had made on her wardrobe, and although it clashed horribly with the rest of the room, it made the room feel a little bit more like her dorm.
She then moved on to putting all of her clothes in the wardrobe. Her mother had sent a bunch from home, after hearing that Madi would be going to a camp. Apparently, she had overestimated how much this camp would be like regular camping, because now Madi had numerous pairs of hiking boots in her closet. She threw on the first thing she could find that did not look like it belonged in the middle of the woods.
She put a few books on her nightstand and slid her bag under her bed. She was officially unpacked and moved into her room. However, when she imagined her room at camp, she did not picture a giant cloud.
She heard a faint knock at her door. "You can come in." She called, and Estelle opened the door.
"Do you wanna come explore the camp with me?" She asked.
"Sure!" Madi said, thinking that it would be nice to have Estelle as a friend. A lot of Madi's friends hadn't gone to camp, and the ones that did were in different cabins.
They walked out of her room, Madi behind Estelle trying to figure out how to get out of the cabin for future reference. This place was a maze, and Madi had never been good with mazes. By following Estelle's lead, they left the cabin.

After crawling through the many tricksy tunnels of the cabin, Estelle and Madi had finally left the Unicorn Cabin. Estelle was glad that she had memorised most of the cabin. She hadn't learnt the layout of it all but more would come as she walked through it. She wondered if she should make a map of the cabin. People would probably find it helpful...
Estelle, being a Hogwarts student, knew the grounds fairly well but she was curious to admire the other cabins.
She disliked the Auguery cabin with it's white and gray colour scheme. The Occamy cabin seemed nice. She wasn't sure about the rustic colouring of the Phoenix cabin.
She also didn't much care for the Thestral cabin. Although she didn't like the current decorations of Kelpie, she had heard rumours that the decorations changed which she loved. She would have loved to be in the Kelpie cabin.
Estelle loved the look of the Hippogriff cabin and felt a little envy at not being in it. The dark red furnishings reminded her of her dorm which she loved. The Dragon cabin was also gorgeous and it looked like a proper summer camp cabin like those from the films she loved.
She turned to Madi and relayed all this as they walked, pausing to hear Madi's opinions on the cabin.

As Madi passed the other cabins with Estelle, she couldn't help but feel jealous when she saw the ones she had been wanting to be in. She loved the Augurey cabin for it's design. It may not have been very colorful, but to Madi, that was what made it look nice. Next was Occamy. She didn't like the design of Occamy. She knew it was supposed to be the modern cabin, but she wasn't a fan of it. Then it was the Phoenix cabin. Madi was pretty jealous she hadn't been placed in this one. Phoenixes were her favorite creatures of the Magical World, and the cabin itself reminded Madi a lot of a cabin her family used to travel to every summer when she was little. This was something that belonged at a camp.
She really liked Thestral cabin, similar to Augurey, there wasn't much color, although more than in Augurey. Thestral cabin looked like a comfortable and peaceful cabin. Next was Kelpie, and Madi did not like it at all. She wasn't quite sure what it was about the design that made her dislike it, though.
Madi also wasn't a big fan of the Hippogriff cabin, but she knew it was someplace Gryffindors would love. Although never have been in the Gryffindor common room (of course) Hippogriff cabin looked exactly as Madi pictured it. Madi liked the design of the Dragon cabin, she thought it looked like a really comfortable cabin, a place that belonged in a camp.
Estelle began telling Madi about her opinions on the cabins, and most of them were the complete opposite of Madi's. Madi liked the little-color look, while Estelle preferred ones with a lot of color. She also liked the Occamy cabin while Madi didn't, and Madi liked the Augurey cabin while Estelle didn't.
"I really like the Phoenix cabin, it was the one I wanted. It reminds me a lot of camping with my family when I was younger." and then she told Estelle the rest of her opinions on the cabins. "I think I'm starting to appreciate our cabin more, I'm sure everyone has something about their cabin they don't like. Besides, I'm mostly in it while I'm sleeping, and I have my eyes shut then." Madi smiled. They continued walking past the cabins.
