The Dark Corridor During Halloween
Musical inspiration: Willow Level 2
A loud splat was heard in front of him followed by a high-pitched scream to his left. Simon jumped by the surprise, both because of the scream and seeing Delilah's face and frizzy hair in the flickering light of another lightning.
"Merlin's beard, Delilah! You scared the heck out of me!"
"Simon! Did you see that? Something moved, and the pumpkin... it just fell!"
He looked in front of them and saw something that looked like a squashed pumpkin on the carpet, hardly visible in the dim light from the windows.
"I... I saw something move in the shadows, and then the pumpkin... it crashed to the floor. It wasn't part of the prank, Simon. Something's not right."
"Okay, okay, I believe you." Simon was usually good at spotting a lier and there was nothing in Delilah's voice giving him a reason not to trust what she said. "Something or someone must have broken the charm. But I didn't hear any incantation. Did you see what it was that..."
He stopped mid-sentence because he heard something behind their backs. It sounded like someone crying. He slowly turned around and noticed something on the far side of the corridor. It was the same figure that he had seen before Delilah let go of his hand and disappeared. There, almost at the end of the corridor, stood, no, hovered a slightly shimmering figure, almost impossible to see because of its transparence – it was one of the ghosts. A woman. And she was sobbing.
"Hello?", said Simon and swallowed. His hand instantly searched for Delilah's hand to be sure that she would not disappear again, before he slowly moved towards the ghost. "Hello? What's the matter? Do you know what's going...? Hey. Hey!"
Instead of responding, the ghost just turned her back towards them before picking up her speed towards the T-section in the end of the corridor, whimpering, and disappeared into the wall.
"What's going on in this corridor?", said Simon, baffled by this strange series of events. "I'd say we continue in the direction of the ghost. The Grand Staircase should be somewhere either to the right or to the left. I'm a bit lost at the moment."
Lost. That was precisely what he was. And Simon usually had a good sense of direction. He was not sure whether it was the darkness or adrenaline that was playing tricks on him, but it was almost as if the corridor had become a whole lot longer. Like its length had doubled in each direction.
"Stay close, okay?"

The Dark Corridor During Halloween
Delilah's heart raced as she witnessed the ghostly figure vanish into the wall, leaving behind a lingering sense of unease. She gripped Simon's hand, determined to not leave it again.
"Yeah, definitely staying close," Delilah replied, her voice trembling slightly. "This place is getting stranger by the minute. Let's find our way out of here.
She took a deep breath, summoning her courage as she ventured forward, the weight of the unknown pressing upon her. The corridor seemed to stretch endlessly before them, as if playing tricks with their senses, disorienting them further.
As she cautiously continued her journey, the occasional flashes of lightning offered glimpses of hersurroundings. Delilah's eyes scanned the corridor, her mind racing with questions and uncertainties. Yet, her determination remained unyielding, fueled by the bond she shared with Simon and their mutual trust.
"Simon," she said, her voice filled with determination, "we have to keep going. We need to find answers, even if it means facing more of these eerie encounters. We'll make it through together."
As she navigated the seemingly never-ending passageway, the whispers of the unknown and the flickering candlelights in the grinning pumpkins above reminded herof the supernatural forces at play. If she was hesitant to believe in alien's existence, Delilah strongly believed in ghosts due to past and very traumatic childhood experiences at her grandma's cottage house where she often saw white slender figures in the gloomy rooms. Delilah clung to her wand and to Simon's hand, ready to defend herself and Simon if needed.

@Delilah Chapman"Yeah, definitely staying close. This place is getting stranger by the minute. Let's find our way out of here."
"Yes, let's..."
He remembered that time he was in the Haunted House in an amusement park with his family, but that had been an attraction with actors. He was not scared back then, but this was in a dark corridor in an ancient castle, built by magic and haunted by real life ghost. Even Simon, fearless as he was, had a feeling of unease as they moved towards the T-section.
"Simon. We have to keep going. We need to find answers, even if it means facing more of these eerie encounters. We'll make it through together."
"Of course we will, Delilah. Don't you worry." He tried to sound confident, not sure whether he was trying to convince her or himself.
Another lightening strike that did not last longer than a second lit up an armor statue right beside them. Simon jumped a little and squeezed Delilah's hand.
"Did you see who the ghost was? If I didn't know better I would say it was the Grey Lady. I see her all the time in the Ravenclaw Tower. I don't think it was Moaning Myrtle. She tend to be more... loud. And stick to the girls' lavatory on the second floor. But it was so dark so I didn't get a good look of her."
When they reached the T-section at the end of the corridor, they found both ways to be as equally dark.
"Who's there?", said one of the portraits.
Simon ignored him. "What do you think? Left or right? I usually have a good sense of direction, but Christ, I have no idea. But you know this corridor, don't you?"
It was weird talking to nothing but a shadow in the dark. He could outline Delilah's short figure and frizzy hair, but he could not see her face. All he could perceive was the sound of her breath, the smell of her hair and the feeling of her small hand in his.

The Dark Corridor During Halloween
Delilah listened attentively to Simon's words, her heart racing with a mixture of fear and curiosity. The mention of the Grey Lady and Moaning Myrtle only added to the intrigue of the situation, as the ghosts of Hogwarts held many secrets within their spectral forms. But Hogwart's ghosts were...kind, she thought, maybe. The ghosts Delilah often saw at her grandma's were a different breed. Creepy and with no sense of privacy, not like Hogwart's ghosts are any different but at least those talked and were sometimes funny. Her grandma's ghosts lingered in the shadows and stared at her sleeping.
"I couldn't see her clearly either," Delilah replied softly, her voice carrying a tinge of uncertainty. " But don't know, something about her presence felt unfamiliar. We'll have to unravel this mystery once we find our way out of here."
She turned her gaze towards the darkened paths before them, contemplating their next move. Simon's question echoed in her mind, and she weighed their options carefully.
"Left or right...," Delilah mused, her voice filled with a thoughtful tone. "You're right, Simon, I do know this corridor. If my memory serves me right, taking the right path should lead us closer to the Grand Staircase. Let's trust our instincts and head right."
With a renewed determination, she veered towards the right, the darkness enveloping her like a cloak. The portraits lining the walls whispered indiscernible words, their voices
blending into a haunting chorus. Delilah couldn't help but feel tingles of excitement in her stomach as she threw quick glances behind her.
As they continued their journey through the mysterious corridors, Delilah's grip on Simon's hand remained firm, a source of both solace and strength. The echoes of her footsteps resonated through the darkness, each step bringing her closer to the answers she sought.
The lightning continued to intermittently illuminate their surroundings, casting eerie shadows that danced along the walls of the corridor. Delilah wasn't afraid of lightening. She was scared of many things : zombies, dolphins (strangely), insects, her mother's glare if she didn't clean her room...but not lightening. In that brief moment of illumination, Delilah's sharp eyes caught a glimpse of something peculiar at the far end of the corridor.
She squinted her eyes, trying to make out the apparition that had momentarily appeared in the flash of light. There, amidst the swirling shadows, she saw a figure, a ghostly silhouette that seemed to waver and shift with an otherworldly presence.
Her heart skipped a beat as a chill ran down her spine. It wasn't The Grey Lady, The Bloody Baron, Nearly Headless Nick or Moaning Myrtle. It was something else, someone else. She turned her head towards Simon searching for recognition in his eyes something that could assure her they weren't in danger.

The Dark Corridor During Halloween
@Delilah Chapman"I couldn't see her clearly either. But don't know, something about her presence felt unfamiliar. We'll have to unravel this mystery once we find our way out of here."
"I'm not sure I want to, to be honest", said Simon. That took a lot to admit for someone who was usually a fan of adventures and mysteries of all sorts. "As long as we get back to the Grand Staircase I'm good!"
They went right and there was yet another corridor, decorated with jack-o'-lanterns. A few of them had a flickering candlelight in them, but it was not strong enough to illuminate the road ahead. Usually the torches and candelabras gave some warmth in the stone corridors as you passed them, but with no heat source, the corridors had quickly gone cold. The humidity seemed to have penetrated the castle as well as the air smelled of wet stone.
Then he spotted something in the end of the corridor. There was that ghost again! A haunting figure, almost consumed by the darkness. Delilah must have seen it too, because he felt her body go stiff before she looked at him.
"Yes. I see it too", Simon whispered with his eyes locked on the figure. It was so dark and the figure was so far away so he could not really outline any details except that it had a human-like form. "Maybe... maybe it's trying to show us the way out of the darkness?"
This idea had an instant effect on Simon. Suddenly the figure seemed less eerie, and the endless darkness in front of them did not seem as frightening. The ghost was the light in the tunnel, some hope at last that they could soon be out of this mysterious corridor that seemed to distort their senses and disturb their minds.
"See!", said Simon. "It's turning left now! I bet you a sickle that's the way back to the Grand Staircase. Let's follow it!"
But as Simon took an eager step forward, he tripped on a wrinkle in the carpet and slipped. With a firm grip of Delilah's hand, he accidentally pulled her with him as he fell to the floor. His leg knocked over a candelabra and it hit the stone floor with a loud metallic noise that echoed through the corridor and the sound of rolling candles. He could feel Delilah move beside him.
"Jeez! Sorry. Must've tripped. Are you ok?" He let out his hand in the almost pitch-black darkness to find out where she was and accidentally poked her cheek.

.Delilah let out a surprised yelp as Simon's finger accidentally poked her cheek. Startled by the sudden touch in the darkness, she quickly recoiled, her hand instinctively moving to her cheek.
"Ouch! Simon, watch where you're poking,"she exclaimed, rubbing her cheek gently. She tried to stifle a giggle, realizing the absurdity of the situation despite the eerie surroundings. "I'm fine, just a little startled. Are you okay?"
"Well, if we wanted to make an entrance, I think we succeeded," she whispered, her voice laced with a hint of excitement. "I hope our ghostly guide appreciates the drama we've added to the scene."
As her eyes adjusted to the dim light, Delilah could make out the faint outline of the ghostly figure in the distance. It seemed to have paused, as if waiting for them.
"Let's not keep our ghostly friend waiting,"Delilah said, squeezing Simon's hand firmly.
As she cautiously moved through the dimly lit corridor, Delilah strained her eyes, searching for any signs of an exit. The oppressive darkness seemed never-ending, creating an unsettling aura that sent shivers down her spine. But then, amidst the obscurity, a glimmer of hope emerged.
"Simon, look!" she exclaimed, her voice filled with both relief and excitement. "There's a faint light up ahead!"
Delilah searched with her eyes for the ghost, but it was nowhere to be found. It just vanished as if it was a mere illusion created by both Simon and Delilah.
She shook her head as if chasing away the idea. Her grip on Simon's hand tightened, urging him to follow as she hastened her pace towards the distant glow. The flickering light grew brighter with each step, guiding her closer to her desired destination.
As she rounded a corner, the source of the light revealed itself—an ornate chandelier hanging from the ceiling, its candles casting a warm and inviting glow. They had reached the grand staircase, a familiar and comforting sight within the labyrinthine castle.

@Delilah Chapman"Ouch! Simon, watch where you're poking."
"Sorry! Sorry."
'Watch where you're poking'. As if I had meant to 'poke' anything at all.
"I'm fine, just a little startled. Are you okay?"
"Yes, I'm okay. May get a bruised knee later, but it wouldn't be the first time."
"Well, if we wanted to make an entrance, I think we succeeded. I hope our ghostly guide appreciates the drama we've added to the scene."
Simon chuckled. "I'm sure it shakes its head around the corner right now", he whispered in her ear.
They followed the path and when they finally saw some light in the end of the next corridor, he felt an immense relief. It seemed like the worst was finally behind them. The ghost was gone, which strengthen his theory that it was actually helping them find their way out of the mysterious darkness. The usual murmur of voices grew closer before they saw it – the Grand Staircase.
"At last! Journey's end, my friend", he said and let go of her hand. "And it all went well – except for the candelabra, my knee and the poking in your cheek. Frankly, I'm only glad my finger didn't went up your nose."
When Simon turned around and looked back, he was surprised to see that the corridor behind them looked completely normal. The torches and candelabras were lit, giving a warm and inviting lighting, as if nothing had happened. The only thing that reminded him of the eerie events they had experienced in that corridor was the trail of jack-o'-lanterns leading back in there.
"Hm", said Simon. "Perhaps someone was pulling a prank on us. Or we found ourselves in yet another of the many mysteries of Hogwarts. Either way, I think you should find yourself another favorite nook for your naps. At least until after Halloween." He smiled. "I don't know about you, but I've had my share of adventure for today." His eyes wandered to Clara's gift box. "At least, you still got the box. Guess ghosts don't need creams, pads and perfume. Thanks again, Delilah... for helping me, and sparing me the trouble."

Delilah chuckled, her eyes sparkling with amusement at Simon's words. "Oh, Simon, I'm glad I could spare you the trouble of carrying around beauty products. Though I must say, a ghost with a flawless complexion could be quite a sight!"
She glanced back at the corridor they had just traversed, marveling at the sudden return to normalcy. The contrast between the eerie darkness and the welcoming glow of the Grand Staircase seemed almost surreal.
"You're right, it does seem like someone was playing a trick on us," Delilah mused, her voice tinged with curiosity. "But Hogwarts has a way of weaving its own mysteries. Maybe it was a test to see how we handle the unexpected!"
Delilah's eyes sparkled mischievously as she added, "And hey, if we ever need a crash course in stumbling and candelabra tossing, we'd be top contenders. Who knows, maybe we'll start a new trend!"
She smiled at Simon, appreciating his lightheartedness despite the eerie circumstances. Their shared adventures had brought them closer, and she felt a sense of camaraderie that she cherished.
"Thank you, Simon, for being a part of this memorable journey," she said, her voice filled with sincerity. "We make a pretty good team, even in the face of ghostly encounters and clumsy falls. Now, let's get you back to your common room before any more unexpected surprises come our way!"
She nudged Simon's shoulder before making her way up the Grand Staircase.
