1st Year, October 2022
The swelling clouds grew bigger and darker as Simon stood on one of the balconies for a bit of fresh air after an hour of studying in the library. The air was warm, unusually warm for October. He suspected that there was going to be yet another night of thunder and lightening strikes. From all of a sudden, he heard a screech from above and saw his family owl Hoax carrying a large package.

"Hoax!", said Simon and sighed. "You can't keep bringing these boxes! I can't be running around the castle with these all the time. And I don't wanna have them stacked up in my dorm among the boys." (Hoax chirped with a frustrated look on his feathery face) "What are you saying? Oh. Don't say the Owlery is full...? Okay. I'll stop by tomorrow to pick them up then..."

Simon grunted. The box was white and square shaped, decorated with cherry blossom twigs, had his sister's logo on it in a beige color and was wrapped in plastic. It was a giftbox with various health and beauty products. Simon was reluctantly being forced upon the role of a courier of her company, receiving these gift boxes to hand them out for free. But the pile only seemed to grow in his dormitory.

He went inside and heard voices coming his way. A group of boys. There was no way he could hide the big box under his robe without it looking suspicious, so he thought he better avoid being seen. He continued in the opposite direction of the direction he wanted to go, eventually reaching the end of corridor. A door opened and Simon realized he needed to take cover somewhere. There was this perfect reading nook where he could sit down and wait until the corridor was less busy. Said and done, he hurried to hid in the nook. A group of girls passed this time. When he finally saw his chance of leaving, he heard foot steps again, but this time from only one person. Hmm... These foot steps sound all too familiar, he thought.

Delilah Chapman's small figure and frizzy hair showed up under the levitating pumpkins and enchanted paper bats further down in the corridor. A lightening strike lit her up from behind, making her look almost like a creepy little doll if it was not for her innocent looking face and dreamy eyes.

In the midst of the rainy October weather, Delilah felt a sense of anticipation and mischief in the air. Halloween was approaching, and Hogwarts Castle had transformed into a whimsical realm of enchantment. Bats with paper wings flitted overhead, and pumpkins adorned with mischievous grins dotted the corridors.

With a mischievous smile playing on her lips, Delilah decided to venture through the castle's enchanting corridors. Her frizzy hair framed her face, strands of it gently brushing against her cheeks as she walked. She had a quill tucked behind her ear, and a yellow paper in her hands. She was writing a letter to her cat Mr whiskers and promising him a whole box of magical tunas (if it existed) when she will return.

As Delilah meandered through the corridors, her eyes danced with excitement at the sight of the decorations. Each pumpkin seemed to have a personality of its own, its carved features emanating a mischievous charm. The bats, with their delicate paper wings, fluttered above her, adding a touch of whimsy to the atmosphere.

Lost in her own world of wonder, Delilah turned a corner, her eyes widening as she spotted Simon in her favorite nook. The box he held in his hands caught her attention, its white square shape standing out against the enchanting backdrop. Transparent plastic wrapped around it, adorned with delicate cherry blossom twigs, creating an unexpected contrast to the spooky ambiance.

A mixture of surprise and curiosity washed over Delilah. She approached Simon. "Simon," she called out, her voice filled with playful intrigue. "What's this you've got here? A secret gift for me, perhaps?"

Oh no, she has seen me. And there was no reason for him to hide the box because she had seen that too. Well, if I'm going to get caught by anyone, it might as well be Delilah. And perhaps that is for the better.

"Simon", she said.

"Delilah! Erhm... Hi."

"What's this you've got here? A secret gift for me, perhaps?"

"Well, in fact..." He hesitated a bit before holding out the box for her. "It might as well be a gift for you. Please, just take it. I'm tired of receiving these packages..."

SPRING COLLECTION
+ GIRL'S SURVIVAL KIT

"It's from my sister", Simon explained. "I don't know if I've told you, but she has just started her own company in London, developing her own health and beauty products. Now she wants me to hand these out for free, as some sort of marketing plan, I guess... I got four of them in my dorm already. It's a bit embarrassing, to be honest... The boys are teasing me about it."

He was almost sure that Delilah would have no interest in his sister's stupid products. But maybe he could ask her to carry the box for him and follow him to the Ravenclaw common room to spare him the gossip.

The envelope that had been taped to the bottom of the box loosened and fell to the floor beneath Delilah's feet.

Delilah's eyes widened in surprise as she noticed the envelope that had slipped from the box and fallen to the floor. She tucked her own yellowish paper in her skirt's pocket and bent down to pick it up, her curiosity piqued by its contents. Her brows furrowed as she glanced at the survey, her lips curving into a playful smirk. Delilah giggled at the inclusion of pads in the "girl's survival kit," realizing that her own journey into womanhood hadn't begun yet at the age twelve. Nevertheless, she found herself curious about the other products in the box. She couldn't help but find the idea of reviewing health and beauty products a tad amusing, considering her own ignorance in such things. Her mother and sisters have loads of those in their bathrooms, closets and even in their cars. Literally evrywhere !

She stared at the box, the transparent plastic revealing the neatly arranged items adorned with cherry blossom twigs. Delilah's gaze lingered on them for a moment before she shrugged, a mischievous grin spreading across her face.

Delilah's eyebrows raised in amusement, a playful smile dancing on her lips. "So, you've become the castle's unexpected beauty courier, Simon? That's quite the disguise for you."

With a finger over her chin, Delilah said in an almost serious tone.
"You know, Simon, I have a feeling that the older students might actually be interested in these products. After all, who doesn't love a good scented candle or a luxurious hair conditioner?"

She looked around her, The rain outside created a soothing rhythm, and the occasional flash of lightning illuminated the gothic windows, casting eerie shadows across the castle walls.

"So, you've become the castle's unexpected beauty courier, Simon? That's quite the disguise for you." She put a finger over her chin. "You know, Simon, I have a feeling that the older students might actually be interested in these products. After all, who doesn't love a good scented candle or a luxurious hair conditioner?"

"Shut up", said Simon with a cheeky smile. "Are you gonna take the box or what? Seriously, first it was the autumn collection, and now this spring collection. A bit early, isn't it? Well, what do I know... But it's like she doesn't realize what year I'm in or that I'm only hanging out with first years. Who in our class wears make-up, for instance? Name one! Because I can't think of anyone."

He appreciated the joking tone to the conversation. That made it all a little less awkward. If there was one thing he appreciated about Delilah it was her light-heartedness, especially at moments like this. But as they had got to know each other better, he had learned that she was so much more than just that loopy unworldly conspiracy theorist that he had met in the library all those weeks ago. Delilah was caring and kind, fun and unpredictable and sometimes surprisingly serious, showing profound wisdom when reflecting about either herself or the world around her. And sometimes she could be amusingly careless when getting dressed. He once caught up with her in the corridor only to make her aware that her jumper was inside out.

"Anyway, what are you doing here, Delilah? Is this one of your favorite 'cat-nap nooks' or what?" He smiled and got up dramatically, as if he was afraid he had been sitting on some sacred ground.

Delilah chuckled at Simon's playful remark, her eyes gleaming with amusement. She couldn't help but be amused by his comical complaints about the gift boxes and his musings on the impracticality of the contents for their age group.

" I guess your sister believes in early preparation," Delilah replied, a mischievous glint in her eyes. "Maybe she thinks we're all secretly fashion-forward trendsetters in disguise. Who knows?"

She couldn't help but admire Simon's ability to find humor in even the most awkward situations. His lightheartedness was contagious, and it made their interactions all the more enjoyable. Delilah was grateful for his presence and the way he embraced her quirks.

As Simon got up dramatically, teasingly suggesting that he might have been trespassing on her sacred resting spot, Delilah joined in the playful act. She followed suit, getting up from the grass with a theatrical flair, pretending to brush off imaginary dust from her clothes.

"Well, Simon, you may have stumbled upon one of my secret hideaways," she replied with a playful wink. "But lucky for you, I'm willing to share. Consider yourself initiated into the sacred society of the corridors cat-nappers."

Delilah stared at the box again.

"Okay then, let me be your savior. Hand me that box, and together we shall triumph over the perils of the boys' teasing. Consider it my heroic act of the day."

She snatched it from Simon's grip with a wink and held it tightly to her chest. She glanced at Simon, mischief flickering in her eyes, before embarking on their journey through the darkened corridors.

As Delilah securely held the box, she prepared to lead the way through the castle's dimly lit corridors. A sense of adventure surged within her, mingling with the rainy October atmosphere and the haunting decorations of bats and pumpkins.

"I guess your sister believes in early preparation", said Delilah (Simon blushed a little). "Maybe she thinks we're all secretly fashion-forward trendsetters in disguise. Who knows?"

"Honestly, I don't believe she thinks so highly of us magical folk", said Simon, chuckling.

Another lightning strike lit up the corridor in a flashing blue light, before a dull thunder rolled over them and made the gothic windows shake. Delilah played along in the act and invited him to be a part of her 'secret society of cat-nappers'. He was not surprised. Delilah had a thing for secret societies, but he figured being a part of one of her own – even though it was an imaginary one – was a feat.

"Okay then, let me be your savior. Hand me that box, and together we shall triumph over the perils of the boys' teasing. Consider it my heroic act of the day."

She snatched the box from him and squeezed it tightly to her chest, almost as if it was a Christmas present she was so found of that she was afraid it might disappear unless she kept it in a firm grip.

"Thanks, Delilah. I must look ridiculous, I know, but... Thank you. I hope you can find some use of the products at least. I owe you one."

As they started walking back along the corridor another lightning strike, followed by a thunder, caught their attention. Next, the torches and candelabras flickered as if a strong wind blew through the corridor – except there was no wind. The flames continued to diminish in size before they went out completely and left them in darkness. The only light in the corridor was now from the lit candlelights in some of the grinning pumpkins above them, but that was not enough to illuminate the way forward. The corridor still seemed to disappear in a pitch black whole a couple of feet in front of them. The only reminder that there was in fact a long corridor ahead of them was from the occasionally flashing lightning.

"What in the world...?" whispered Simon.

Delilah's eyes widened with a mixture of surprise and apprehension. The sudden darkness and eerie atmosphere sent shivers down her spine, but she tried to maintain her composure.

"Wow..." Delilah whispered back, her voice barely audible above the sound of the rain outside. "Talk about immersive Halloween fun !"

She could sense Simon's unease, but she knew they had to find a way out of the darkness which was the second most thing she feared after zombie dolphins. Taking a deep breath, she mustered her courage and reached out for Simon's hand.

"Stick close to me," she said, her voice determined. "We'll navigate through this corridor together. Just follow my lead."

With their hands tightly clasped, they cautiously moved forward, their steps slow and deliberate. Each flash of lightning illuminated the corridor momentarily, revealing glimpses of ornate tapestries, statues, and the gothic windows adorned with raindrops. The thunder continued to rumble ominously, heightening the suspense in the air.

As Delilah and Simon continued their journey through the darkened corridor, a mischievous idea crept into Delilah's mind. The thrill of the moment, combined with the Halloween ambiance, seemed like the perfect opportunity to play a prank on Simon. She couldn't resist the temptation to give him a good scare.

Suppressing a silent giggle, Delilah let go of Simon's hand and slowed her pace slightly, allowing Simon to walk a few steps ahead. She took advantage of the darkness, carefully navigating her way to a hidden alcove nearby. It provided her with the perfect vantage point for her prank.

She pressed her back against the cold stone wall, blending seamlessly with the shadows. Holding her breath, she waited for the opportune moment to strike.

"Wow... Talk about immersive Halloween fun!"

That was very typical of Delilah to say that, but the truth was – he agreed. One of the best things about Hogwarts was the constant surprise of strange and mysterious encounters lurking around the corners. You could never really know what you were going to find when you were heading for the bathroom or to the Kitchens for a little late night snack before curfew.

"Yeah. I wonder if this lighting is part of the decor or if it's a cue that we should start heading back for our common rooms", said Simon, not sure if he intended to make a joke or if he was speculating.

Suddenly he felt Delilah's hand in his. He was not prepared for that and it took him a couple of seconds before he responded and clasped her hand. Not that he had anything against physical contact. It was just that he was not used to it and realized he had never been in any longer physical contact with Delilah before. The twist was that she did not grab his hand because she was scared; she grabbed his hand to take command.

"Stick close to me", she said. "We'll navigate through this corridor together. Just follow my lead."

He realized that holding each other's hands was very practical. In case one of them would trip or knock something over they had each other's backs. They moved slowly across the floor, taking small tentative steps before something caught his eyes in the end of the corridor. Delilah let go of his hand and Simon strained his eyes, waiting for the next flash of lightning to see what it was. But the lightning never came. And what was Delilah up to?

"Delilah?", he said, and turned around.

The closest pumpkin that still had a lit candlelight in it was far behind them and he could not see much. But from what he could see, Delilah was no where to be found. Simon was not scared of the dark; in fact, he enjoyed being embraced by darkness, and mysteries usually had him intrigued. But it was not the darkness that sparked the eerie feeling in his stomach. It was whatever that had caused the darkness, and the reason for Delilah's sudden disappearance, that frightened him a little bit.

"Delilah? I'm over here", he said, hoping that she would come out of the darkness and find him again.

When she did not answer, he pulled out his wand from his pocket. Another rumbling thunder shook the walls. Stupid girl... Why did she let go of my hand? One second later and she was gone. How typical. 'Follow my lead'. Yeah, so much for leading!

As he was turning back, he held out his arms to be sure he would not hit a wall or trip over one of the candelabras. Finally, the lightning strike came. He perceived an alcove in the corner of his eye, and the line of floating pumpkins in the ceiling leading back to where they came from, but could not see Delilah anywhere.

Delilah, still reveling in the thrill of their spooky adventure, suddenly caught sight of a movement in the shadows. Her heart skipped a beat as her eyes darted to the source of the disturbance. Before she could comprehend what she had witnessed, a loud crash resonated through the corridor.

Startled, Delilah's instincts took over, and her mischievous intentions were replaced with genuine fear. A scream escaped her lips as she stumbled backward, hastily retreating from her hiding spot behind the suit of armor.

The once-confident prankster was now consumed by a mixture of fright and adrenaline, her mind racing with thoughts of what could be lurking in the darkness. The crash of the fallen pumpkin shattered the eerie silence, amplifying her unease.

"Simon! Did you see that? Something moved, and the pumpkin... it just fell!" Delilah exclaimed, her voice trembling with genuine fear.

Breathing heavily, Delilah struggled to find her words. "I... I saw something move in the shadows, and then the pumpkin... it crashed to the floor. It wasn't part of the prank, Simon. Something's not right."

Delilah stood there, her eyes scanning the darkened corridor, searching for any signs of the mysterious presence that had startled her. She reached into the pocket of her robes and firmly grasped her wand,
