Closed Bravery Meets Wits Gobstones Estelle Nyx vs. Cassie Jiang

Estelle was excited to play her first game of Gobstones, but nervous too. She had never played Gobstones or marbles and she'd had to read up on the rules. Luckily, after much searching (she hated that her phone didn't work in school) - she'd found a book that explained everything.

She had been selected to play against Cassie. Her friend and fellow mischief maker was now her opponent and Estelle couldn't wait to beat her. She hoped she wouldn't lose her first game - that would be embarrassing. Still, better she lose her first match than lose an important tournament game.

Estelle walked into the room to be greeted by a nervous-looking boy around her age. He introduced himself as the moderator for the match. She hoped the match would be fair - she hated it when people cheated , but knew the chances of a fair match were unlikely.

Estelle could feel her competitive spirit raging within her as she sat down. She pulled her Gobstones set out of her pocket. She had bought a beautiful set of Gobstones that looked as if they had purple galaxies trapped within them. She absolutely loved them.

Estelle was first to play. She had chosen to perform a throw she had practised a little, though she was by no means perfect at it. The Catapult.

Estelle drew back her arm and, with a flick of her wrist, deftly threw the Gobstone.

Axyen was excited, he watched as Gobstones were thrown and both of the gobstones hit, Axyen was practically beaming. "Wow that was brilliant!" Axyen said, Cassie and Estelle were still at a tie, well, that was their names if he was reading the score boards correctly, which Axyen just remembered to do. Axyen was excited for what they would do next, maybe they would do something even crazier. Axyen was excited, luckily nobody tried to cheat, so at least they took his rules seriously, or maybe they didn't, but at least they didn't try to cheat. Axyen was slowly starting to get hyper and his face showed it. "Nice! You both hit a gobstone! You both are STILL at a tie!" Axyen exclaimed, practically bouncing. Axyen remembered to focus, as he couldn't allow any cheating, but Axyen couldn't help but get excited, he was excited when the match would get more intense, although Axyen would feel bad for whoever had to.... A bell just rung inside Axyen's head. "Forgot to mention this..." Axyen said, then cleared his throat slightly. "But the loser..." Axyen paused for dramatic effect, as well as the hope of getting somewhat of a dramatic reaction. "Gets sprayed with a foul smell, so if you don't want to smell bad, you will want to win this!" Axyen said, watching their reactions, giving them a reason(hopefully) to take the game much more seriously.

Estelle smiled, relieved that she had succeeded in her throw. Maybe all the reading she had done was paying off after all. She could feel her confidence growing but reminded herself of the dangers of overconfidence.

She grinned as Cassie complimented her.

"Looks like you have plenty of talent too. This should be a good match"

Cassie began the second round and Estelle watched as she threw her Gobstone. Rather than looking at the result, Estelle was more bothered about the fact that Cassie seemed to have her eyes shut. Surely that would be detrimental to her throw?

Estelle simply smiled. If shutting her eyes helped Cassie than who was she to judge? And if not, it would help her win. Either way, she benefitted from Cassie's tactic.

Estelle watched Cassie's throw and thought about which tactic she would use. She could do a Conscious Throw but she wasn't particularly strong and didn't want to risk failing it. There was only one option for her really.

Estelle lined up her next Gobstone and prepared to throw. She chose the same throw as last time, as she had had more practice in that throw. Better to be safe than sorry.

Estelle took aim and threw.

Axyen watched as the Gobstones were thrown. "Another tie!" Axyen said, bursting with energy of excitement as he watched the thrown Gobstones connect with the other Gobstones on the board, still making them even, though it was a close call for both, especially Estelle whose Gobstone almost missed, but managed to knock a Gobstone off the board. "This was a close call too!" Axyen said, imagining the match would get competitive more and more, he would just have to be patient, he was getting more and more excited, although took note that neither of the witches seemed alarmed at Axyen's warning about the foul smell. Axyen was hoping that'd make the game more competitive, he wasn't trying to turn them into enemies, he simply just wanted to make the match more intense, although it was starting to be a little intense(from Axyen's view) as the both now only had five(5) Gobstones left on the board. "I can't wait for what you guys come up with next!" Axyen said, excited. He hoped that they would try something cool which would make the match much more interesting to Axyen, although this had been pretty fun so far. Axyen noted how they had good sportsmanship, which was great, Axyen was kind of nervous that the two might start getting angry at each other, and typically Axyen didn't do so well with conflicts, so he was glad that nobody was mad... yet.

Estelle was surprised when both her and Cassie succeeded again. She had expected one of them to fail, allowing one to be in the lead. However, that hadn't happened and they were still drawing.

Her previous throw succeeded, just about. The marble was going too slowly and almost didn't knock the other marble but luckily it did, allowing Estelle to continue to draw with Cassie. She supposed that drawing was better than losing, although she would prefer to be winning. She knew this match was going to be very close and hoped she would prevail.

Estelle congratulated Cassie on their draw and picked up her next marble. It was her favourite, a silver-flecked blue marble with a pink galaxy within it. She absolutely loved it. Athena, Estelle's cat, had tried to eat the marble multiple times, knocking it out of her hand and playing with it. Athena loved sparkly things.

Estelle prepared for another throw. This would be her third and could be a good chance to switch up her tactics but she wasn't sure whether to. She had succeeded both times and if she applied the same tactic she might be able to succeed again.

Axyen was shocked. Another tie. This time, nobody landed a hit, Cassie's throw either was too weak or too strong(Axyen was slightly distracted as he thought he saw something in the corner of his eye) while Estelle had messed up her throw along the way, an event Axyen didn't completely witness as he was still looking for that one thing he thought he might've seen. Axyen was excited to continue his commentating, as he found it to be more fun than he originally anticipated, maybe one day he could be a dueling commentator? Axyen shook his head at the thought, it just didn't feel right... Oh well. "Another tie?!" Axyen said, generally shocked, he couldn't believe it. Just what were the chances? Axyen thought for a moment. "Well..." Axyen said, he didn't want to admit it, but the ties were getting less exciting, it was certainly less fun than the idea of a close call only for a comeback to completely shock everyone. "The match can still continue on!" Axyen exclaimed, trying to stay enthusiastic. Hopefully, this round would turn out much more intense. Axyen felt himself get lost in thought, he wondered if a Gobstones tournament existed somewhere, perhaps it was something to look into, though he appeared to be looking at the board, he was deep in his thoughts, so deep, that he wasn't paying too much attention to what was happening in front of him for a few seconds.
