┏ ┓The resident Gryffindor rebel was skipping class again.
In her opinion, she didn't particularly care for History of Magic. Not that she didn't believe it was important, but because it was her least favourite subject right below Divination. As a child she'd been forced to spend hours memorising history books from her strict tutor, what use would it do to even show up for class anyway? Besides, it wasn't as though Regina deliberately allowed her grades to drop. Despite resorting to a delinquent school life, she was still a perfectionist. Of course she would be one of those students who never showed up but somehow excelled nonetheless during final exams.
To conclude, Regina had decided to spend her afternoon at the Great Lake instead.
She needed to write a few more entries to her private journal. The Gryffindor hadn't been feeling in her right mind since her most recent - and first - heartbreak. She responded to it how she'd always responded to trauma, by turning it into power. Regina hated, hated, that she'd allowed someone so close to her carefully guarded heart, only for her to discover their deception all along. That the person she'd learnt to genuinely love had not existed at all. It had all been an act.
As if Regina needed yet another person to manipulate her.
Just to vent her fury, she'd make sure to bully some nameless first-year and reaped a few chocolate frogs and a decent crow feather quill for her effort. Regina walked along the edge of the lake, her journal clutched tightly in one hand. She was looking for a perfect spot to lounge, until her steps faltered at a familiar figure.
"Colin?"
There was the Slytherin boy she'd become close with over these few months. Since their secret heart-to-heart conversation in Hogwarts' basements back in September, they'd discovered their apparent relation when she'd idly mentioned she had a cousin graduated from Ilvermorny who bared quite a resemblance to Colin's uncle. After that, they'd both learnt how Regina's aunt had been one of Hunter McCoire's many youth conquests. It had been certainly awkward to realise they were related through an illegitimate child within the McCoire family.
It served them good, however. Regina was more inclined to trust Colin afterwards and they even stopped in the halls between classes to chat now. It was a stark contrast to how they'd first met last year, through threats of violence (from her end).
What was Colin doing here? Had he also deemed whatever lesson he was supposed to be attending boring, and preferred to laze around in the warm spring sun?┗ ┛

Colin leaned back into the tree trunk, his arms clasped behind his head of long platinum blond hair and his green eyes closed against the warm light of the Sun. He had decided to take his lunch outside today and so had run all the way down to the lake. It had been such a beautiful day out, and his classes had gone so well in the morning --- he didn't even blow anything up in potions today! --- that he didn't even notice that not only had his eyes closed, but he had drifted off into a most lovely dream!
He and Clair were walking along the corridors towards transfiguration. It was after lunch and, as usual, the corridors were crowded with students heading back to classes from their break. He hardly noticed anything going on in the corridor, except that he and Clair walked hand in hand! And they climbed up the moving staircase that would lead towards their class, only in stead of waiting for it to shift into place, along with the rest of the students, they gave each other a look, smiled and leaped from the top step!
High above the others they floated! Out and over the empty spaces between the stair cases. Broomless flying was brilliant! And before the others were able to finish ascending the stairs, Colin and Clair were running along the corridor together, hand in hand! But Colin's smile suddenly faded. He looked beyond his girl friend. Avery Leveret was flying beside Clair, trailing a thick black cloak, billowing jet black vapours. His dark eyes were hard and brilliant like diamonds and his smile was wickedly bent. His Prefect badge glinted, and he laughed maniacally as he gave Colin a thousand years worth of detention and cackled that he would take Clair away! "You'll lose everything including her! Blood traitor."
And Headmaster Lear appeared in the distance! He was standing at a potions work table. Younger, he seemed, but still wearing his armour. Bottles and flasks lined the table, and a great copper vessel was in the middle of the table over a low fire. It burbled merrily while its vapours rose into the glass triple alembic resting on top. Droplets of a beautiful black substance condensed upon the tapered glass, and dribbled into the copper pipe that lead down to the crystal receiver. "Colin my lad!" he called out merrily, and Clair dragged him onward. He nodded, looking Colin in the eyes. "It's brew your own night, Colin! Take a dram of Darkest Night, Colin! Colin!"
"COLIN!?"
The voice was suddenly not that of Headmaster Lear. It was a girl's voice. His heart leapt! But it wasn't Clair's voice! His eyes shot open and focused on the sight before him. A Gryffindork girl stood there. Colin blinked. Nope! Check that! Not 'Gryffindork' --- Regina would probably kill him if he ever called her that! But what was she ---
"OH CRAP!!" Colin shouted in response to his cousin's query. He shot up from his comfy seat and grabbed his satchel. "REGINA! What are you doing here? We're gonna be late for class! Wait," Colin said a little less loudly. What was she doing out here, he wondered as he shoved his hands into the pockets of his kilt. He drew out his battered old pocket watch.
He'd first met the girl last year when she levitated his friend Piérre in the great hall. Bloody hell, he thought she was a prick and a half and a menace to boot! But there was something compelling about Regina all the same. Earlier this year, she found him in the deep basements and they'd talked. Not silly stuff either, but some pretty serious stuff. They learned eventually that they were cousins, and Colin learned that Regina was a top pocket duellist! He'd watched a couple of her matches and really loved her style!
He looked at his watch. "Aw, nuts, History of Magic is almost halfway done! We were supposed to start on --- halfbreeds." He didn't much like the term, and nearly spat the word out. Colin dropped his satchel in defeat. Looking up at Regina, who still seemed clueless as to why he was down here by the lake. "Welp. Hopefully we won't get detention for skipping! I'll have to copy Clair's notes." He related to Regina his dream about Clair. He wasn't quite sure what to make of Headmaster Lear and the darkest midnight bit. Maybe his cousin wouldn't ask! "So, what are you doing down here, anyway?"
