He did it again! Avery got another shot past him and Ginyami couldn't believe how out of practice he was. That, and how excellent a player the Hogwarts first year was. He seemed to be a natural. But, just like that, the advantage of points that the blue team had over the red team was gone.

June seemed to learn to watch for Avery. Maverick was able to get the ball and managed to shoot it past Milo, making Ginyami feel slightly better about the goal he hadn't managed to save. Once again, the blue team was ten points ahead. Ginyami whistled in triumph.

It turned out to be premature, however. During the next scrimmage, June continued to watch Avery, but another member of the red team got the ball instead. They passed it to the Slytherin star who caught Ginyami by surprise once more and managed to shoot past him through a hoop. The Japanese fourth year cried out in frustration. How come he was being such a bad keeper today? Surely a first year couldn't best him that well that frequently? He really had to get back into practicing again.

The next time Avery tried to score against them, June bodychecked him. Ginyami was grateful to her, but a little annoyed he had had to have help in order to keep the other team from scoring. If only they could manage to disable Avery somehow with how much the red team seemed to rely on him...

June seemed to have the same thought. Unfortunately, a foul was called when Aryaan noticed that she had attempted to cob Avery. Avery's shot was ruined and Ginyami managed to catch the Quaffle easily, but June's foul had earned her a penalty lap. How were they going to do without her during that lap? Only time would tell, but Ginyami wasn't liking their odds. This game was likely to be really close.

Angelique observed the game rapidly, and a weary look on her face as the score was even. She marked Harland, wind calling out and she held onto her broom tightly. She did want to make it out alive. At least. Maverick, a fellow chaser, seemed to have a lot of confidence that day and aimed straight for the goal.

Angelique gave a small cheer if delight as the Quaffle whizzed into the hoops, they were not in the lead but being even was a good thing. The next round began, as June tried to keep the Quaffle away from the Slytherin Avery Leveret. Angelique flew over to help, but Avery made a sharp break to the hoops and scored for his team. Even once more.

She went back to marking Harland, but seizing his chance, Avery aggressivly snatched the Quaffle from her arms. However, June was there to help. She bodychecked him at an angle, and their Keeper managed to make an excellent save of the hurried shot.

Unfortunately, having a captain doing a lap around the pitch wasn't the best thing for the team. June cobbed him illegaly and aggresively, which did not go unnoticed by Aryaan. The game continued.

Old habits die hard, they say. In the great sport of quidditch airball, a sport that thrived on grace and fair play (boring), blatching and throwing rocks at opponents were prohibited, whereas they were encouraged key components in the great sport of broom racing. And so forgive June for confusing her playbooks for a moment. It was only natural.

In truth, June's approach towards Avery was a bit aggressive. Oh well. June gave a half-apologetic look to her Slytherin peer as she took her place for her penalty lap. A look that said "Hey, sorry, but not entirely, glad you're not hurt." Which was true, June hadn't intended to foul him, and yet here she was. All she could hope now was that her mistake wouldn't cost her team the game.

With her heart pounding and determination in her eyes, June made a silent promise to herself. She wouldn't let an opportunity to pass her by. Maybe she could do some intimidation tactics here... it was a golden opportunity to remind not only her team, but her opponents just how skilled a flyer she was. She would shoot through the sky as if she had wings of her own. Oh yes, fly this penalty lap she would. As fast as she possibly could.

Spending another round at his goal posts as the score evened out. At this point it had become clear what their teams strategy was, but it seemed to be working as the scoreboard hit 50-50, ten more scrimmages and they would be done, hopefully with a win in their hand, but even if they didn't it wasn't too bad. Even though Milo liked a bit of violence, he was more a "hit it from a distance so they don't ruin the pretty face" type and less scrimmaging, he was glad to stick about up here.

The best option he had was to try his best to catch as many of them as possible, which was... a fail because he only had one to catch this time around and he missed it, he really wasn't used to being a keeper, you'd think by halfway through the game it would be a bit better but no, seemingly still not great. Rubbing his gloves together for good luck and gripping his broom again, he was ready to try again.

With a tap tap of his hands on the broom, he did a quick loop around the hoops before the next scrimmage could begin, getting ready to be on his best form.

THE WIND IN HIS HAIR AND BROOMSTICK IN HIS HAND, HARLAN KNEW HE NEEDED TO SPEND MORE TIME OUT ON THE PITCH. It seemed like Avery was quite the natural as a chaser and scoring, he hadn't expected a Slytherin like him who seemed to be more of a spellcaster to have such natural athletic ability but seemed like he was quite the well-rounded individual. Ignorance was simply bliss, who even knew that his connection to one snake would and be harmful to this budding friendship of another. Oh well, Harlan simply focused on what he could control and what he couldn't.

With Avery being the main point of goal scoring, he knew he had to do something to turn the tides of battle in a way to help their team stay on top of it. "Get ready, one more round!" He cheered on his comrades, adjusting his grip on his broom and sped off to ensure success and victory for their team.

With a quick lap zipping around to settle back into the middle for their next round, Harlan had a vicious smirk on his face as he would zip himself and force speed to do what was needed to win. "Avery, keep that hand open. Quaffle's coming right for ya to score."

SCORES
60-60

Yevgeny must spend the next 5 scrimmages doing a lap of the pitch.
The game was coming to a its death throes and both sides needed to do something different to try and get the edge needed for victory. For Blue team, down a player, that meant that Ginyami, their keeper left the hoops and joined the scrimmage, forcing a change in formation to a very odd one: Gnyami marking Avery, Yevgeny marking Ginyami, and Angelique marking Harlan in an formation that Aryaan could make neither heads nor tails of. Perhaps the only "normal" part of the formation was Harlan and Maverick facing off. Not that any of it mattered, because as soon as the scrimmage started, Avery rolled past his blockers, and stole the Quaffle from Maverick's hand with practiced ease. Then he zoomed towards the goals. Wthout Ginyami there to block--

"RED TEAM SCORES"

Wow, team Blue must really be missing June right about now. The second scrimmage had the Blue team forego defending at all. Ginyami bodychecked Avery as the young Slytherin talent attempted to make another play, letting Maverick and Angeliquie break past the red defence in an aggressive push. Without the defenders to harry them, Aryaan might have expected Maverick to pass to Angelique, who had managed to position herself for a nice cross, but the young Gryffindor forced a shot against the older Beauxbatons keeper, who knocked the Quaffle out of the air with ease.

Perhaps sensing that they had lost the edge of surprise in that scrimmage, Blue team changed formations AGAIN -- Ginyami heading back to defence. Oddly, Yevgeny seemed to head forwards, marking the Keeper still. Or was he setting up for a Flick?

Regardless, this change in formation meant that Angelique was now marking Avery, and Harlan was marking Maverick. An odd change, leading to odder results. In the third scrimmage, Angelique finesses the ball, away from Avery, and zips towards the goals. At the very last moment, she executes a brilliant cross to Maverick, but Milo is ready for it and makes a beeline to intercept instead of keeping to the goalhoops. Both the Keeper and Maverick get to the Quaffle at the exact same moment, and Aryaan is sure that the larger, bulkier boy will wretch control easily. But somehow, it is again Maverick who manages to deftly get the slip the ball out of the Keeper's gloves, and shoot--

"BLUE TEAM SCORES"

In the fourth scrimmage, Avery again shows a glimpse of brilliance, faking out Angelique and making a break for the goalhoops. Perhaps now Yevgeny would-- but no. Avery like Maverick before him, attempts to force a shot fro a bad angle. Unlike Maverick, it almost works. But almost scoring is the same as not scoring, and Ginyami's gloves nestle the Quaffle.

In the fifth scrimmage, several things happen. Angelique again manages gain control of the Quaffle, despite facing off against Avery. As she's making for the goals with Avery on her heels, though, Aryaan finally sees what Yevgeny was doing.

With attention on the other end of the pitch, the Yevgeny goes and fully rams into Ginyami, attempting to knock the older keeper off his broom. He sees limited success: Ginyami is, indeed, knocked off his broom, but manages to keep one hand on the handle, and with a not-entirely-graceful
roll in the air, manages to re-mount his broom.

"FOUL, RED TEAM. ATTEMPTED BLTACHING."

The game kept going of course. The flow of the Quaffle would not stop just because of something as minor as a foul. "One lap around the pitch, Yevgeny Ogarev."

Despite his attempted foul failing, Yevgeny had managed to spoil Angelique's perfect play. The girl had managed to lure all the defenders to her by making a reckless and aggressive break for the goals, only to pass the Quaffle BACKWARDS to an unmarked Maverick. Unfortunately for the blue team, Yevgeny's little spectacle had distracted Maverick, and instead of taking a shot at the goals, his shot went right into the Keeper's glove.

Angelique continued marking Harland, her blond hair dancing in the wind. That was when Leveret scored yet again, bringing a frown upon her face. But there was still more time. They could still win.

While Ginyami managed to bodycheck Avery, Maverick and Angelique managed to break defenses of the Red team with a lot of force, quite surprising for the timid first year. It was a perfect position for Maverick to pass to Angelique and score - but instead he made a hurried throw to the hoops. That was stopped quickly.

The Blue team changed formations once more, much to many people's bafflement. But Yevgeny seemed to be up to something, marking the Keeper. What on earth? Was that some sort of new tactic that Angelique didn't know about? But the change was that Angelique began marking Avery with force, finally managing to grab the Quaffle from the Slytherin and whizzing away with great speed.

She was too far away from the hoops, so she saw that Maverick was close. She threw the ball with her well practiced skill and he caught it. Unfortunately, Milo did too. And it seemed that the bulkier, taller one would win. But then Maverick managed to get the ball out of his hands again, much to Angelique's joy.

The Blue team scored once again. Once again, the close match was even. Yet again, Avery managed to tackle the ball from Angelique and aimed for a badly thrown goal. It nestled firmly in the Keepers hands. However, Angelique proudly managed to get control of the Quaffle, with Avery close, tailing after her determindly.

But there was a call of "RED TEAM, FOUL" or something like that, making the blond turn around and foolishly loosing control, and hesitantly passed the ball to Maverick, a fellow Chaser. But it was no doubt a bad one, because there was no score from him.

By this point of the game, Maverick Castle was on hot coals seeing the score was even. He figured that if his team won, he would feel pleased and proud; but not only that, everyone present in this (unofficial) match would remember him for being one of the players who scored most goals that brought victory to the Blue Team.

He would be recognised in the days to come, his popularity rank would rocket, and people were to admire or become totally jealous of him. Everything would be coming up roses.

The game was about to come to the end. If Maverick wanted to make sure it ended in his favour, then he had better get control of the Quaffle. Airball may be a team game, but the Gryffindor had made up his mind that it had to be up to him. He was the sharp point of the spear, and everyone else in the Blue Team played supporting roles.

There was no time for discussion, though. No time out. He had to play smart in order to signal his strategy to his teammates supporters without the opponents finding out. Making a sharp dive on his Firebolt, Maverick was in hot pursue.

  1. In the role of Chaser, if you have a contested quaffle grab and a contested strength roll between yourself and another user is in progress, unless they have the same broom, you would be the victor of the contested quaffle grab. In addition, rounds where you are successfully carrying the quaffle in an attempt to score, you only take half-damage from bludgers and blatching attempts.
  2. In the role of Chaser when you attempt to catch a passed Quaffle (such as when the Keeper has possession of the Quaffle and passes it to a teammate) you have advantage (meaning that it is rolled twice and you keep the better option) on attempts to catch if the opponent team attempts to intercept.

Penalty laps were boring with a capital "B". Boring. June tried to spice it up as best she could by climbing and diving a few times, or taking the tightest turns possible, but in reality, it was just flying without purpose. Boring.

It was honestly quite impressive how evenly matched the two teams were. Here they were, still tied. Which was equally as nail-bitingly anxiety-inducing as it was annoying. June supposed it was better to be tied than losing, but it was much much better to be actually w i n n i n g.

June honestly wondered how Maggie was able to deal with such a stop-and-go sport. Perhaps there was more strategizing between scrimmages, and June did have to acknowledge that a real game of airball quidditch would have far more players as well as large bludgers whizzing about. Still, it felt a bit like a "hurry up and wait", and somehow both the waiting and the hurrying were slower than she anticipated.

As the captain completed her lap and flew to rejoin her team, she made a point to look them all in the eye. For a group of people who had just met, they'd done quite well. As she met each player's gaze, she gave them a nod of confidence. Time to give them hell.

Roleplaying as Ginyami Midorimori from Mahoutokoro
"English | Japanese"
With June out for her penalty lap Ginyami needed to step up and join the scrimmage for the quaffle. Unfortunately, this meant that the hoops were left unguarded for the blue team and that ended up costing them. The decision to leave the hoops was proven to be a bad one when the talented Avery managed to steal the quaffle and, yet again, get it through one of his enemy's goals. As Aryaan loudly proclaimed, the red team had scored.

Determined to do something about Avery, Ginyami bodychecked him during the next scrimmage, allowing Maverick and Angelique break through the red team's line of defense. Maverick attempted to make the shot when he could, but Milo managed to save it before Maverick could score. It was a shame, but Ginyami knew he had to go back to his own keeper duties. He returned to his own team's hoops and continued to watch the others as the next scrimmage started.

Angelique managed to get the quaffle and hurried toward the red team's goals but passed the ball to Marverick at the last second. This caused Milo to attempt to intercept, but once again, Maverick and Milo ended up in a contest for the quaffle. Perhaps it is Maverick's skill with his broom, but also once again, the younger player manages to get control of the ball. With the goals unguarded by Milo, Maverick shoots and scores, causing Ginyami to grin. They were once again tied with the red team. Just how close was this game going to be?!

After the fourth scrimmage, Avery manages to snatch the ball once again. This time, Ginyami was determined not to let him score and this time he actually managed to save it. With a sigh of relief, he passed the ball back for the fifth scrimmage. Angelique once more managed to grab it after a face off with Avery. Ginyami was so distracted watching her head toward the red team's hoops with Avery in pursuit that he almost didn't notice Yevgeny heading straight for him until it was too late.

Ginyami is knocked off his broom, but not completely, as he was used to such tactics. Keeping one hand on the handle, he managed a roll to remount the Firebolt even as Aryaan called a foul. That meant that it was the red team's turn to lose a player to a penalty lap, however. Ginyami refocused his attention on Angelique, but unfortunately when she passed the quaffle to Maverick, Maverick had been so distracted by Yevgeny's attempted foul that his shot was easily saved by Milo.

Ginyami took a long breath and exhaled. There was only one more round to go and the teams were still head to head with neither giving the other an inch.
