It was rather nice, Maverick had just been able to score a goal while putting up some show to entertain the viewers. A catchy spectacle would always be a part of an iconic rider, and even though Maverick was not currently a racer but a Quidditch (nay, Airball) chaser instead, he entertained himself with the imagination of being one and stealing the spotlight.
Another positive thing that had happened: their team managed to gain the upper hand, the Blue and Red teams are now separated by ten points. A mere ten, though. It would not be difficult for the other team to catch up, for earning ten points was not such a difficult job. A single goal was all that needed.
There was one more thing that unsettled the Gryffindor. It was that kid on a Silver Arrow (@Avery Leveret), it seemed to Maverick Castle that the other boy was stealing the limelight with either his skill, his broom, or his luck; and the first year did not like it. If there was one thing the part-Veela liked more than winning, it was being the centre of attention.
At some point of the game, the opponent looked as if he was trying to communicate something to Maverick, but the Gryffindor gestured for him to wait until the game was over.

Ginyami swore under his breath in Japanese when yet another shot got past him. He really had to step up his game. Perhaps he had been too hasty in underestimating the younger students on the opposing team. Avery was proving to be quite a threat. The fourth year decided he wouldn't underestimate him anymore, however; now was the time to take him more seriously. Ginyami was keen on not letting the next shot make it through the goal hoops.
It wasn't long before Avery had the quaffle again and, sure enough, he tried to send it past the blue team's keeper. With Ginyami's full attention directed at the first year Slytherin, however, he performed the Starfish and Stick move with enough skill to both knock Avery's shot astray and send it sailing into Angelique's possession.
Pleased he was finally being of proper use to his team, Ginyami noticed Aryaan smile and smiled back. He didn't have long to focus on the Mahoutokoro Champion, though, as his attention returned to the swiftly-moving quaffle. It changed hands from Angelique to June, who made a shot for the red team's hoops. Unfortunately, the opposing keeper, Milo, managed to stop it.
Ginyami found himself slightly disappointed, but not surprised. He had been concerned about Milo since the beginning, after all. In the events that followed, though, Ginyami found himself impressed by yet another first year he had underestimated - this one on his own team. In a struggle for the quaffle, Maverick managed to win against Milo and admirably shoot the quaffle toward the goals with the tail end of his broom. This time, their team actually scored. Ginyami whistled triumphantly. "Amazing move, there!" he called to Maverick, cupping his hand around his mouth. Now the scores were even again.
Heart thudding in his chest with the rush of adrenaline, the Japanese boy reminded himself to stay alert. Maverick started off with obtaining the quaffle again, but Avery managed to steal the ball away. "Oh no you don't," Ginyami murmured, narrow eyes pinned on Avery. "Not this time." And, somehow, he just managed to keep the boy from scoring yet again. He had successfully stopped another goal, but he was counting on his teammates to get their own score up.
This time it was June who managed to nab the ball easily and attempted to score. Astonishingly, her abilities as a chaser managed to surpass Milo's as keeper when she made the shot, because Milo actually failed to save it. The blue team had ten points on the red team. Ginyami grinned. Of course that didn't mean they could let their guard down with the score so close, but at least it was an advantage.

Reducio- In the role of Keeper a critical success on an attempt to block a goal not only means that the Keeper caught the quaffle but they have also successfully passed the quaffle (without a chance of interception) to an allied target of their choice. A critical failure in this case cannot happen for a Keeper, they get to re-roll the attempt to block.

The game was fast and furious. She eyed the Quaffle and tried to catch it a few times or blocking, but those were usless attempts, she was not yet confident on her broom stick as she was on foot. This was not going well - she should have known to start practcing before agreeing to play in a match like this.
Avery was with the Quaffle. Angelique charged, flying quickly and eager to help her team. But it was either her unfortunate mood or Leveret's superior broom that managed to out fly her quickly, leaving the blond frustrated again. She and Maverick were both catching up, tailing Avery as if their life depended on it. But luck was on it's way.
The Keeper managed to punch the Quaffle out of the way, and send Avery in the other direction. To her surprise, the Quaffle soared straight into her hands. She quickly re-focused and began to fly as quick as she could. Wind whistling in her ears and hair dancing in the wind, she managed to get pass to their Captain and throwing the Quaffle to June. Unfortunately, she was stopped by Milo, the sixth year.
But the sudden blast of team work seemed to have a positive impact on Team blue. There was a tight moment with the burly sixth year versing her own teammate, Maverick - and it was victory once more. Several goals later, the blue team was in the lead. She smiled.

Quidditch Airball was a lot of stop and go. Release the quaffle, scrimmage, fly, score, stop. Quaffle, scrimmage, fly, score, stop. Had it not been the changing strategy from round to round, it would honestly be a bit boring in June’s eyes. Much more fun to string the action together in her opinion.
June’s palms began to sweat as her team fell behind (and cursed herself under her breath when her shot was blocked by the opposing keeper). This wasn’t good, the teams were quite evenly matched. She watched as Avery (and the other players too, but as he was the only one she was familiar with, it was mostly Avery) sped through the sky, his skills much more advanced than June had anticipated. Then again, he’d likely been flying from a young age, just like June.
Aha! With a triumphant “woop”, June scored a tie-breaking goal. Time for another “stop”. As she and the other players flew back into position, June flew besides Avery once more. She wore a triumphant, jesting smile.“That all you’ve got?” Perhaps it was a bit prideful to poke the bear, as it were, but she simply couldn’t help it. There was something about that Leveret that brought out the ambition in June…

Hissing between his teeth as the score became less even and not so much in their favour. It was still very close which was great but fingers crossed it could turn back the other way again. Milo was itching for his beater bat to just go and bash the other team with the bludgers, he was good at that. He was less good at catching the quaffle and stopping it from going in the hoops but this was the game he signed up for so it was what he had to do.

He tried his best to block them, but there were 2 that went past him this time around, although one was very close, he tried his best. After this, he planned on chatting to the others to see what they thought of the game. Milo also wasn't quite used to planning out actions, that wasn't normally his job he tended to just do as he was told but it was alright, he was slowly getting used to it, even though the game was almost half way over. It was just meant to be a short game, maybe it could turn around, quidditch was good like that, it could normally flip around at the drop of a hat.

IT SEEMED AS THOUGH MOST PEOPLE HERE WERE ON THE UP AND UP WHEN IT CAME TO ABILITY. A little upset that his broom had seemed to be a huge limitation for him, he felt the need to buy a better broom or a faster broom if he was seriously going to consider playing Quidditch or Broom Racing during his time here at Hogwarts.
The score teetered as he missed his first block but was able to get to the second one, a loud groan at his own downfalls but knowing that the game wasn't even close to being over yet. "Don't worry, I got this." He yelled to his teammates (Avery) who was doing his best to be helpful but only burned the passion of competition that had been lit within Harlan fiercely.
Gripping onto his broom, he focused on flying a bit faster and with more of a ferocity to truly showcase what he was capable to do. Despite Maverick being a part of his house, he was going to show that he wasn't simply a lion cub waiting for his roar to come but a cub ready to willfully find his roar when it felt like he needed it the most.

ROUND 3

Rolls
ReducioComing Soon
SCORES
50-50
June Selwyn must spend the next 5 scrimmages doing a lap of the pitch.
Round 3 of the Airball match saw some changes from the sides once again. While the Red team mostly stuck to its haunches -- why change something that's not broken, the Blue team tries something very different.
In the first scrimmage, June did not attempt to take control of the Quaffle at all, staying out of the ballfight and watching the proceeds as they happened. Yevgeny, similarly, did not seem much inclined to rush into the squabble of Chasers, watching passively as Avery Leveret managed to wrench the ball from the control of Maverick and shot straight for the hoops with some urgency. Ginyami was there, expecting the Slytherin talent, but Avery had put some spin on his shot and the Quaffle spun out barely out of the reach of Ginyami's extended gloves.
"SCORES LEVEL, 40-40."
And then the game changed. Anegelique was marking Harland while started marking Avery. In the second scrimmage, June's tight marking allowed Maverick the space needed to take control of the ball. With Yevgeny still not actively taking part in the game, Maverick could speed right past Red team's defenders and shooting. Milo, it seemed, was unprepared for the ease with which Maverick came at the older boy, and another goal was scored for the blue team.
"BLUE TEAM SCORES, 50-40"
Next scrimmage, June still manages to keep Avery from contesting the Quaffle with the help of Angelique, but that left Harland unapposed to get control of the Quaffle now. Sensing his chance, Avery made a break for the hoops, and Harland followed his lead, beautifully passing the Quaffle to the Slytherin first year, allowing him to easily pass Ginyami's defenses once again.
"SCORES LEVEL, 50-50"
Angelique goes back to marking Harland, and perhaps sensing a chance, Avery aggressively grabs the Quaffle again but is bodychecked by June at a sharp angle, throwing off his aim. Ginyami is easily able to save the resultant hurried shot.
Aryaan narrowed his eyes at June. That was some aggressive defending by the Slytherin girl, barely legal in the she maintained very tight angles with the Avery boy. He'd need to keep a closer eye on her.
In the last scrimmage, June managed to keep Avery from getting the Quaffle once more by marking him tightly, but it was again Harlan who managed to beat Angelique for the first time and steal the ball over Maverick with a beautifully timed swoop. Avery tried the same play as before; but just as he was about to make the shot--
"FOUL. June Selwyn. Attempted Cobbing."
It was an odd foul too. Perhaps June had gotten too involved in her role trying to cut off Avery's advances. Perhaps she was attempting some odd maneuver that Aryaan had never seen before, bulletin in from behind the younger Slytherin and attempting to knock the ball out of the boy's hands and attempt a steal. Perhaps it was something more nefarious. Instinctively, Avery swerved out of the way of the incoming mass at high speed -- even professional Chasers can get injured from collisions. His (un)fortunate swerve to dodge the June-bullet ruined his angle though, and the Quaffle ended easily in the gloves of Ginyami.
"SELWYN. FOUL. One lap of the Quidditch pitch. Everyone else, continue playing."
Whatever her intentions, June had managed to stop Avery from scoring. But at what cost? Blue team now lacked one of their lead chasers, even as the match was more than halfway completed.

After successfully scoring with the tail of his broom, one of his teammates, a foreign student with jet black hair (What's his name again?) [@Jack Burnett], praised Maverick for his "amazing move". The Gryffindor smiled at this, perhaps rather smugly, and he gave the elder student a slight bow and some cool but simple movements the way an internationally-recognised athlete would to their fans, before concentrating on the game once again.
It turned out that he managed to recreate scoring past the Keeper of the opponent team [@Delilah Stewart]. The first year smiled at this, the fact that the boy was a couple of years his senior (or so he assumed) and still could not hold him back proved that he was such an invincible athlete, even as one of the youngest individuals around. Maverick shot a glance back to the Keeper, noting that the other student was actually not bad. He may want to ask that teenager his name and number after the game ended... if it ended in Blue Team's favour.
However, after briefly leading, Red Team somehow managed to catch up, their scores once again drew. @June Selwyn was also penalised, making their situation worse than it already was. But Maverick's worst moment was when someone from the opponent team (@Harlan Montgomery) stole the Quaffle from his grab. "Oh, no you don't!" the part-Veela hissed, promising himself that this kid would pay.

┏ ┓----- A spectacular round unfolded.
Not only had Avery not let Ginyami get into his head, but he and Harlan had equalised the score, to which a jubilant fistpump was given across the pitch.
“Lion’s got claws!” He grinned across to Harlan, it was rather enjoyable to know that there was other talent in Hogwarts; as there seemed to be a distinct lack most times. The international students were definitely making a show of things, he couldn’t well rail on them completely; not after the skill on display in the last round. Maverick was undeniably amongst those with talent, but Avery wouldn’t admit that to a foe, at least not during the game.
Another reset came in, and whilst it seemed very stop-and-start, he enjoyed having the time to properly consider the coming scrimmage; though objectively it was less skillful than the consistent hustle and bustle of actual games. This was a fitting introduction to broom sports, or hands on experience at least. He’d been a fan of the Falmouth Falcons since he was a child, when he was taken to see them compete in the Quidditch World cup many years ago, and he would channel them now in the upcoming scrimmage.
He was darting forward at the signal, and the broom he had been gifted by his Grandmother carried him true as he got to the quaffle first, weaving through the bodies that were coming at him. From the stands it must have looked quite impressive, on his lonesome; but perhaps that was his downfall. Avery was arrogant, and it was beginning to show in his style of play as June came at him at a sharp angle, rocking him sidewards.
With a gritted grin he tried to battle her off, but she had successfully harassed him as his shot was laboured and easily saved by their keeper. Damn that could’ve been it, the mental edge was a factor worth having on-side.
Avery didn’t take that scrimmage to heart, but when it happened again, his grin faded and he grew a competitive frown. June kept him from contesting the quaffle, but Harlan came in clutch again. If it wasn’t for seeing Caoimhe on his arm at the ball, Avery could well have been friends with this one. – Harlan played for the team, an admirable trait, and Avery knew what was coming and so started on a path towards the hoops. June then came down at him in an attempt to steal the quaffle again, spotted in his periphery just in time; else he may have been knocked from his broom entirely; throwing another laboured shot.
Wreckless brooming, was that a thing? – The referee seemed to think so.
A scoff of scornful derision escaped him before he called out to June:
“Back to racing around the pitch instead of playing on it, typical Selwyn!” He called, not knowing her or her family too well to know if that was true, but he felt they were at enough of a level for him to joke and mirthfully goad…

Yevgeny had experienced a state of confusion during the previous round, even though he could not pinpoint the exact reason behind it. His temporary absent-mindedness could be due to physical factors as well as mental ones. Yevgeny's hair fluttered in the strong wind as if symbolising his lost focus in the heat of competition. Nevertheless, he could not be completely swept away by distraction, despite feeling somewhat disappointed by not achieving perfection this time. Focusing his mind and fixing his gaze on the floating ball, he straightened himself up on his Comet. He was now reasonably determined not to repeat the same mistake again until the end of the game. "I mustn't allow these Hogwarts students to make fun of me," he thought, squinting at his opponents. Yevgeny now largely reverted to his former stability, mainly relying on his sense of pride, which always happened to be his favourite personal sin among the seven deadly ones.
Now, along with many of his fellow wizards and witches, Yevgeny was flying above the Quidditch court with all his speed and determination, chasing the ball. His teammates and rivals, in various-coloured robes, were rushing past him at a sharp speed. Yevgeny was diving in the air, trying to follow every step of the game with his narrowed eyes. So far, he had been impressed by the performances of Maverick and Avery. A bit of jealousy, a bit of chivalrous appreciation filled his chest. He leaned forward on his broomstick to increase his speed and dashed forward, ears flattened, eyes squinted.
