Half-blinded, Pierre chose a tactical retreat, shield thrown up in front of him so he wouldn't have to stumble through a dodge while Evelynn healed him. It should have gone smoothly, had Cassius not cast a very good Flipendo. It was powerful, accurate, and sliced through the shield like butter in a way Bridget had only seen a handful of times. Most of those times were from Phaedra, actually, so he was certainly living up to his teammate's legacy. Pierre could see again, but he hadn't escaped unscathed.
And while Cassius did excellently on the offensive, Phaedra eased the fire caught on his robes, dousing him with water that would make it hard for him to be lit again for good measure. So Cassius now looked a little like a wet cat, but the stage was once more rid of flames and inflamed eyes.

If you do, tag me and make it clear in your post. I will reach out to follow up with these as plot hooks for future RP with you, in addition to having Evelynn react to it in some fashion in the immediate moment."Inbound from one!" Observant and generally quick to react, Evelynn's warning provided her partner with just enough time to throw up a shield. Or so she thought, anyway. The spell had certainly manifested, but it was as though it held no substance. Not for the first time, the lioness watched as Marchonné struggled as the preferential target. If only she had been quicker with her own casting. Her own spell had landed as well, and he seemed better for it—if only somewhat—but little good it had done him.
Air sucked against the back of her teeth, even as brows furrowed with equal parts frustration and determination. "Gather yourself quickly." The urgency of her tone could not be mistaken as she stepped in front of her teammate. If she let herself dwell on it, there'd be little doubt that the pair of Eagles would be able to easily circumvent her measly barrier. Truly, it wasn't meant as anything more than a hopeful distraction to allow the jester even just a moment's reprieve to find stable footing again and get reoriented for a return fire. Yet it still comforted her to know she could offer even that.
She'd done well not to underestimate the duo. As things were going right now, this would be a quick match indeed. A debut season without a single victory...it was not an outcome Evelynn particularly relished. They would need to change things up if they were to have any hope of overcoming what was very clearly a vast disparity in casting aptitude.

Cassius had been concerned about the spreading embers on his robes disrupting his next spell. The burning sensation had really begun to sting now, causing the young Ravenclaw to visibly wince as he readied himself for the next exchange of spells.
With the ever present pain working its way up his arms, it took extra effort to speak the proper incantation for the Knockback Jinx. As the jinx fired at its intended target, successfully piercing through the Gryffindor's shield, Cassius felt a deluge of water flow over his body. The flames were extinguished but at what cost? First fire damage and then water damage. His tailor would have a field day with this one.
An appreciative nod was directed towards his teammate as he shook off some excess water from his sleeve. Now free of the debilitating fire, Cassius readied himself for the next exchange of spells.

Phaedra had to be honest; she appreciated the silence on this side of the piste. So in tune with strategy and mutual needs, their words went unspoken in favour of results—in her opinion, Gryffindor could learn a thing or two. While Cassius pierced through the boy’s shield, Phaedra hummed her approval and provided a dunking of water to tend to his growing flames. Despite her help, she found support roles a waste of her talents. Itching to join back in the action, she took on a stance at the rounds conclusion. Offensive plays were far more suited to her tastes.Doing as strategized (x)

"Opportunities multiply as they are seized."~ Sun TzuSlashing his wand upwards in a perfect vertical as he was informed of the direction of his adversaries, Piérre knocked some of the budding yew leaves off of his wand as he cried out in desperation; "Prote-go!"
Just like in his previous three casts of the spell in the year earlier, a lovely shimmering bubble of a silvery barrier flew up in an attempt to counteract whatever spells were going to be hurled his direction... only for the boy to be blindsided by a random flipendo that had eeked its way through one of the gaps that had been the only existing weak spot on it thanks to the fact that Piérre couldn't really see well to begin with.
Now, where had Piérre experienced this almost exact situation before...?
Wampus: Were it not for the damnable winds… the boy would have had a chance... An arc of white cast by a different Ravenclaw had shattered the spell at almost the exact same pressure point, which had led to him being struck him in the shoulder; disarming him, dislocating his shoulder entirely... and the fear. There was so much fear. Piérre was afraid. He wanted to run, even despite his concussed state. Even now... the only thing between him and the exit was simply people. He came and went among people all the time, why would now be any different? He could run; he could get away, and he could live. Because in the end, despite everything, despite all that the hat had said that he was on that fateful Sorting those four years ago...
Piérre. was. a. coward.
For all his bravado, at the end of the day Piérre would have rather run than fight. He knew his matches, and he picked them well... but in situations like these, where he had no choice in the match... adversaries would be hard pressed to find him, let alone hit him. Perhaps that too was the reason why in recent years the boy had become so 'sneaky' in terms of staying out of the sightline and the interests of others. A puppeteer only present on the fringes of attention only visible to those who were truly paying attention enough to find him. He was more comfortable in the backseat, in a position that held no threat to his physical wellbeing and that left him in a relative position of power compared to those that were trying to find him to begin with. He could make them run in circles if he had to; and when such instances required it... he most certainly did without a fear of retaliation or mind to what his actions spelled for his victims' feelings of being gaslit.
Reeling from the blow, Piérre shook his head and tried to clear his thoughts as Eevee's relatively small healing power offset a bit of the damages and helped to heal him enough to let his jade eyes turn bright green again with vision and awareness. He could run away... know that in this situation he was bested, and that the best option was to simply stop the madness by retreating and then returning after a while with a vengeance...
But he had no choice. In this situation, the students were pitted to constantly fight seemingly without a purpose other than the entertainment of the crowd around them; peer pressured by one another to observe children almost kill each other time and time again in this masked sport standing in for a magically inclined gladiatorial fight. And Piérre had not been having any blessings of any sort from Lady Luck or otherwise. In this situation, he was the one being run down by the wild animals as if he were in a locked down colosseum; he was the one getting torn to shreds... somehow he always was.
Secretly, Piérre wondered when it would finally be too much. When would everything finally catch up with him and finally put him in his grave for good?
He certainly wouldn't give them the satisfaction of surrender, though. Coward's bravery, perhaps, but Piérre knew for a fact that even if he did get laid out like last time he would make a break for it out of the Hospital Wing. He'd done it on several occasions, and this time would be no different. Anything to stay out of that cursed place.
If that meant that he had to take down these misguided Ravenclaws to do it; then so be it. Yew was renowned for its mastery of life and death, for its wielders to either be heroes or villains. Perhaps Piérre didn't know if he fell on line with one of those archetypes yet, maybe he never was supposed to, but he could at least hope that the wand that had chosen him well the first time would graciously lend at least some of its power to the boy. It was almost as if it was teasing him. Ollivander did say that this brother liked to restrict its user's magic if it felt they needed to be 'disciplined' after all.
"Please... please work." He whispered more to the wand than to himself. "I don't know what you want from me. I'm sorry that I did the thing, but please... please help me now."
All he could do was pray and cast; and it was exactly that that he did.Doing as Strategized

There was a lot going on, to put it simply. The Ravenclaw side was the most eye-catching. Phaedra and Cassius had both already demonstrated competence, Cassius nailing Piere through his shield just a moment ago and Phaedra with several years as a testament to her skill. But something went wrong. Half of Phaedra's spread Confringo went wildly off track, exploding in front of Cassius, and at that point you could hardly blame him for his own Incendio Duo flying toward her in turn.
Cassius was rocked by the force of the explosion--depending on his life experiences up to this point, it might have been one of the most painful things he'd ever experienced--and Evelynn was not messing around. She cast her Ventus cooly and confidently, bolstered by the presence of Pierre, and nailed not only Cassius but Phaedra as well, the spell forking mid-flight.
And Pierre sealed the deal, managing to get off his Petrificus Totalus this time around. Phaedra had a lot going on, so her dodge attempt reflected the many things splitting her focus. Her limbs locked abruptly, dropping her unceremoniously to the floor. Just like that Phaedra was incapacitated, Cassius was injured, and Gryffindor was poised to take the lead.

"Opportunities multiply as they are seized."~ Sun Tzu“Petrificus Totalus!” Came the desired incantation of Piérre once more. Well, if at first you don’t succeed try try again… Wasn’t that the saying?
Piérre’s spell only barely let itself be coaxed out, but as per his typical his aim seemed to be on pointe. See, it was much easier when he was able to get the spell to work to begin with. So long as he could cast it, he could usually make good on ensuring that his spells hit their mark… even if he was still shaking with fear whilst he did it. Green eyes were focused on the older Ravenclaw student’s, even as she came tumbling down with her limbs locked to her sides. Piérre winced for a moment; he knew firsthand how unpleasant that spell was, even if he was guilty of frequently casting it on his opponents in a bid to gain for himself and his team a little more time.
Time was not a frequent commodity, but even Piérre had to marvel as Evelynn’s Ventus spell split into two neat forks; something that he had never been able to do for himself even as he tried to block the wooden shrapnel from the stage with his crossed arms, closing his eyes tightly to protect them from being injured by the debris. It seemed that the other younger student on the Ravenclaw team had had it infinitely worse, though, and that had been a total accident on the behalf of the sixth year student herself.
Now was not a time to breathe, though. It never seemed there was enough time to breathe, really. Heart pumping wildly, it was all Piérre could do to control the knocking in his knees as his green gaze slowly traced to the Ravenclaw boy. The next move seemed rather obvious. With a small gulp, Piérre’s yew wand was already tracing the movement of his next spell. When it came down to survival, the answer was usually quite obvious. “We’ve… we’ve got this…”Doing as Strategized

If you do, tag me and make it clear in your post. I will reach out to follow up with these as plot hooks for future RP with you, in addition to having Evelynn react to it in some fashion in the immediate moment.A sudden wave of fear coursed through Evelynn, nerves alight with a very real sense of dread. One moment, she was standing her ground, squarely facing off against their opponents. The next, she had to fight the impulse to flee, foreboding claws that promised nought but despair taking at her resolve. It left her stunned, temporarily wide eyed and mute. Perhaps it was a good thing in a way. Rooted to the spot as she was, at least get team want about to see her forfeiting her continued participation in a moment of forgetting herself.
Fingers closed around the grip of her wand, patches lips coming together in search of a tongue to wet them before swallowing down the lump that had risen to her throat. Logic dictated she search for the source of her unease. To assess whether her reaction to...whatever it was...was even warranted in the first place. For all her searching, however, she really could find nothing particularly frightful. What she did land on was Pierre's expression. One that seemed to match the emotions that...no longer seemed to plague her. Like the brush of intimate insight to a character's inner psyche, the emotions had passed as quickly as she might have turned a page, and she was then left feeling every bit as steadfastly determined as she had felt prior to the sudden interjection. The only conclusion left to her, then, were that the feelings were not her own...
"Breathe, Pierre." She couldn't quite be certain the source, but neither did he give of his typical carefree air. "It is not over until it has concluded, but we surely may lose if we accept defeat prematurely. So stand fast." A slate gaze cast itself quickly in his direction before settling back on the pair ahead as they prepped their next attack. "You may be dressed in black and yellow, but it was your character that saw you chosen for Gryffindor. Hold tight to that courage. Besides, nothing they could throw at us could possibly compare to a bludger from Healy."
The barest shadow of a smirk teased the corner of her lips at the truth in that sentiment. Even as Stavrou sent an explosion their way that rocked the platform and sent the lioness preparing to dodge the worst of it, she felt more emboldened. There was no forgetting the bone crunching agony of a well aimed bludger. For all her nerves and cautious approach in during, she'd almost forgotten when she'd already endured. They were more than prepared, she and Pierre. They just had to tap into that stamina and situational awareness. And in the wake of what could only be described as a horrifically unfortunate (for the birds) series of events, Evelynn was ready to capitalize on that.

A very simple thought came to Cassius' mind as the exchange of spells lit up the room in spectacular fashion: Ouch.
A more disastrous chain of events could not have befallen the young Ravenclaw and his prefect as their spells were cast towards the Gryffindor duellists. Towards was perhaps too generous a word for the direction their spells really went. Somewhere in the chaos of the exchange somethinghappened and their spells instead of targeting the lions, targeted each other. Ouch was right.
The Ravenclaw prefect's spell, along with Evelynn's jinx, hit like a truck. The breath knocked out of the young boy, he staggered back and fell to one knee. Recovering quickly though, Cassius rose to his feet and presented his wand--ready for what was to come next and resolved to see his house victorious at the end of the day.

Gryffindor vs Ravenclaw: Match 10
To spare herself the humiliating introspection, Phaedra blamed the reddening of her cheeks to her haywire Confringo, its combustion bringing a dreadful heat to the air adjacent. Yes, that would surely do it—not the colossal and game-ending blunder she’d bestowed to Ravenclaw’s detriment. The “save-face” reflex to taunt something went unfulfilled as her curt tongue and limbs suddenly pulled stiff, backwards momentum tipping her flat onto the piste. It was clear how this would play out now. Take out the youngest, incapacitate the elder. It always boiled down to this with her pairings, and Merlin, did it wear on the spirit. Still, she had to try, and brute force her limbs back into motion.Doing as strategized (x)
