CL Brooms at the Ready!

Focused, single-minded. A million different descriptors ran through Odi’s mind as his broom drifted through the woods. As he tried to keep his concentration on not hitting the jagged branches that were begging to knock him off his broom, Odi became aware of another presence in the vicinity. Ashley Montez, the Ravenclaw boy he had met in the abandoned toilets, was advancing at just about the same speed that Odi was. 



Taking a swoop sideways on his broom so that he and Ashley were neck-and-neck, Odi gave a withering glare to Ashley before leaning forward on his broom for a burst of speed. “Catch me if you can hugsy!” He jeered loudly against the wind. Unfortunately, just as he called back to mock Ashley he managed to thwack directly into a branch. His face collided directly with the arm of a fir tree and he gripped his broom tightly to not fall off it. “Son of a bowtruckle!” He hollered, not waiting to hear the taunt that Ashley was undoubtedly forming at the sight of Odi’s misstep. 



Focused, single minded, Odi told himself again. The next stretch is over a field of vines, what could possibly go wrong? He caught sight of Beatrice and Aurora flitting through the end of this unit and he leaned forward again to meet their speed. The wind roared at Odi’s ears, willing him to slow his pace, but the silvery-haired boy would listen to nothing but that voice inside his head, repeating over and over again, focused, single minded. 

It didn’t even occur to Odi that his broom had been drifting lower and lower as his speed increased. His legs dangled dangerously to the vines below, as though they were offering themselves to the tangled thicket. “ARGH!” Odi yelled as a vine clung to his leg tightly, leaving him stuck in mid air as his broom hovered in place, trying to speed on as it’s rider desperately tried to free his leg from the vines.“Let go!” Odi implored, yanking his leg as hard as he could in an effort to free himself. He looked over at the previous zone, Ashley had not caught up to him yet, but it was surely only a matter of time before Odi’s teasing comments would come back to bite him in the butt.

Beatrice felt her heart thumbing in her chest, the cold still lingering onto her. She slowed down a bit, a slight shudder going through her body. It was probably for the best to go a little slower than maximum speed and so Beatrice did what she thought was best. Even if she wanted to win, there was no good in falling off of her broom or rushing into something like trees with all her broom could give. Feeling the wind blow in her hair, Beatrice would barely realize that someone was about to cast Flipendo on her. Raizel Voltrouz seemed to be a bit confused with what were good spells to cast in this race. A bubble producing charm wasn't something that would do much at this part. As she turned to check her surroundings, Beatrice saw Aurora lifting her wand and as soon as she realized what the other girl was about to do, she tried to escape the spell that was coming at her like lightning. Whether it had been the bubbles or Beatrice being lucky or perhaps just good reflexes, she managed to evade and passed into the next unit.

The bubbles had spread through here too but there was nothing she had to evade or be careful with here, just simple flying so that was what Beatrice did. The dark haired Slytherin had already convinced herself that she would not make any more mistakes but Beatrice couldn't see what was coming yet. Swooshing through the air alongside Aurora and Duvessa, to Beatrice's surprise (a pleasant one at that), the bubbles finally moved away and gave light to the situation awaiting them. Beatrice's eyes widened. How could she not have heard the rushing water earlier? How could she not have suspected something like this coming? Slight shock rushed through her and she barely had time to think about if they were allowed to evade the water falling like a heavy wall. It was too late. Beatrice felt the massive amounts of water push down on her and before she could do anything to help it, her hands seemed to slip from her broom and with that, she did too. Everything seemed to be in slow motion and as she felt herself fall, she mentally prepared herself for the cold body of water that she was about to hit. It came sooner than she would have liked and suddenly the water was surrounding her. She felt as her hair flowed around her and how her clothes immediately started becoming heavy. She knew they would stick to her once she was out of here and it wasn't going to be pleasant. Beatrice gladly managed to get above the surface soon, taking a moment to breath.

The race was still young, but going fairly well for the black haired Slytherin. If the time so far had been choatic, it was nothing like what was in front of them. The opposing team cast a Bubble Producing Charm, again. They seemed to have a great strategy, for that put her in a sour mood to cast spells.

But Duvessa could not even stop for a couple of minutes, as she headed straight into a hard snowfall. The snow was laying thickly, her dark hair turning blond rapidly. Ugh. And it was cold. She gripped it tighter as she sped through it, careful not to be blown by it. She could see the blurry visions of figures in front of her, and she inched further.

To her delight, she managed to overtake Raizel, the Gryffindor girl, and flew quickly - eager to win the race. And thats when a huge dallop of icy cold water - a waterfall - collided into her. She gave an audible gasp, her hair clinging on to her face and gently being blown by the wind. There was a noise below, as she had seen that Bea had unfortunately been knocked off her broom. She gave one last anxious glance at her, and then flew on. There was no time for help, there was a race to win.

Fhe silhouettes of Duvessa and Raizel were fading further into the distance as Odi desperately tried to free his leg from the death grip of the vines.“No, no no no!” His voice rose in panic as the vines seemed to tighten around his leg as firmly as Odi’s grip on his broomstick to keep it from slipping from his grasp.



A faint whooshing noise soared over Odi’s head and he lifted his head in horror at the sight of Ashley Montez flitting past him. Worse still, Ashley appeared to be dodging the vines with relative ease. “NO!” Odi roared. He wrenched his leg as hard as he could and the vine tangling his leg snapped off in a final relent. “Finally!” Odi grunted, kicking off the ground once more and pressing forward on his broom. The vines grasped for his legs once more but Odi’s fury now outweighed his carelessness.

The ground blurred beneath him as he raced towards the end of the unit. 

“I’ll get you Montez!” He bellowed to Ashley, though in truth he didn’t know wether the other boy could hear him. There was no way he was letting the Ravenclaw boy beat him now after he’d seen Odi get flustered by the vines- Not to mention how Ashley had seen him at his most vulnerable in the abandoned toilets.

Bubble Producing Charm! What that was for, Raizel doesn't know herself but she sure hopes it will at least hinder someone's ability to navigate through the course and she sure wishes it won't be her. Truth be told, it was fun casting it and came out well too but she needs to get her focus back on the race. With that said, she took hold of her broom, leaning forward as she felt her body finally warming up after that freezing shower.

She had been overtaken by a couple of racers from the other team which isn't exactly what she wanted to happen. That sudden freezing snowfall had taken a toll on her speed, her fingers feeling so numb that for a second there, she thought that she'd fall off of her broom if she went zooming in if her hands failed to hold on her broom tightly. That moment of hesitation to take a risk had certainly cost her the position of being in the lead.

Odi was still behind them and Ashley was already catching up. She grinned as things were getting exciting once more but she sure needed to catch up to the leading racers. Beatrice's fall from her broom wasn't something she expected though, almost making her wince when she heard the splash once she hit the cold water.

"Ouch." The Gryffindor uttered but she didn't glance at her direction for too long for she needs to focus as well if she doesn't want to end up like her.

Things had kicked off pretty fast, and the action was only growing by this point! A nicely executed bubble-producing spell by my teammate Rai had proved a disadvantage for the other racers, but I think it also affected us too, especially when I was trying to shoot a Flipendo spell at the girl named Beatrice, and unfortunately, I missed. Oh, Rai...

I couldn't be certain that the bubbles had done that, maybe it was my own carelessness. The snowfall a few units back had proved quite the challenge, and that had chilled me to the bone. I may like cold weather, but I don't want to be turned into an Aurora ice cube! So, imagine how I felt when I saw a wall of water ahead of me. Oh fudge. I braced myself as I flew through the waterfall, coming out the other side unscathed, as well as Duvessa.

I can't say the same for Beatrice, though. I gritted my teeth and kept on flying, feeling more confident on the broom and trying to overtake Duvessa. I really, really hoped that nobody had gotten seriously hurt in the further units like Ashley and Odi...especially Odi. Already the competition was tough and a little chaotic, and I was barely halfway to the finish line! What a game!

That was incredibly fulfilling and funny. Ashley appeared to be a whiz at using the broom. Even though he didn't particularly enjoy flying class, everything appears to have worked out in this instance and he did well to avoid the vines.

While in the air, the child spotted a young man who had previously left him behind. "Lol, it's him," he chuckled to himself, and he yelled, "Good luck mate! He continued on and eventually found himself in another unit, which appeared to be incredibly fascinating.

This wasn't Ashley's worst performance—not terrible for someone with a duelling heart, he thought—but he hoped that his chances would be better the day he joined his house's duelling squad. He flew and admired the skies while taking in the scenery. The most gratifying thing he could have done was this. He adhered to all of the instructions given by the flying professor, and it appears that they are working out for him. He couldn't afford to make mistakes or slip up. In this sport, he had to give it his all. He also hoped that the other team was trailing so that they could lose this round because Team Going for Gold appears to be performing well so far. The youngster was indeed fiercely competitive today.

Besides the fervent exchange of spells, the racers seemed to focus on their flying skills and get as far as they could. They flew throw the natural obstacles like professionals and Ying was very proud of her fellow first years. After some difficult rounds, Raizel seemed determined to gain the lead of that race and so far, she had succeeded, being fallowed closely by Aurora.

Things were really starting to take a turn now, like me getting Flipendoe'd. None other than Duvessa too, the Snek from the other team. Catching me off guard, I fought to keep myself steady on the broom, but luckily, I didn't fall off. Phew! Now, time to get back at her for that one. Smirking, I managed to obtain a rock and throw it at Duvessa, but my plan tanked spectacularly when I missed. Sigh...

Were things looking up? Well sure, I flew through one more unit full of thorns, but tackling was a breeze. I tried to see what was going on behind me, but I decided that it would be better if I kept my eyes on the road. This was nothing like your average bike ride after all. I gritted my teeth and steadied myself, trying to think of what to do next.

Broom racing was harder than I thought! It was a very exciting sport that I considered doing more often, even though I was a duelist now. But, I was anticipating how this game would turn out, because it was getting kind of busy. Now why I could see why people liked it so much, and now I could remember why I had been so enamored with it when I first heard about it upon coming to Hogwarts for the first time.
