The second round of duelling saw some expected moves, and some unexpected ones. Gryffindor continued to strategically target Wynn, the weaker of the two duellists representing the amber house. Blinded and disoriented with green sparks in her eyes, the second-year Hufflepuff was a sitting duck as two spells mercilessly came crashing in her direction. Kim's Knockback Jinx hit her in the middle, while Rose elegantly followed up by setting their sleeves ablaze.
Lucia, either having the same idea, or trying to detract attention from her junior, cast the same spell at Rose; and now fires were burning on duelists on both teams.
The most unexpected decision was perhaps from the center of attention Emma Wynn herself, who cast through the green sparks. Perhaps it was the stress of the situation, perhaps it was her excitement getting to her, but her wand movements failed to elicit an actual spell.
Oh well, at least she didn't hurt herself there.

For now, round 2 had begun in earnest, with the Gryffindors taking matters into their own hands again. Kim's chosen spell, his favorite one that had earned him the nickname Flipendo Prince, struck his target and dealt a pretty decent amount of damage. Glancing over to his left, he saw Rose had also succeeded with her spell this time. Emma was now aflame. Emma's own spell seemed to sizzle and fade before she'd even managed to get something out, which was unfortunate. Well, for her that is. As for Lucia, she ended up shooting the same spell at Rose as Rose had at Emma. Kim couldn't help but notice the look on their faces.... Could something be going on between the two of them? The two hadn't said much to eachother but it was obvious there was some tension there. The only question was what was that tension from? The duel? Or was it something else? Kim had to admit, he was curious as to what there was between the two girls. Not that he'd ask, at least not right now. There wasn't enough information for him to do so. On the other hand, if either of them, or both, slipped up and gave him enough ammunition... well, that would be a different story... What should their next move be? Kim debated and then glanced over at Rose, his eyes asking what she wanted to do for their next move. |

Three duelists on the stage cast the fire-making spell. Or, in Emma’s case, tried to. Emma’s spell fizzled out before it could shoot across the stage. Rose’s spell and Kim’s Flipendo hit Emma not too late after. Rose winced, knowing that had to hurt. Emma was aflame and was knocked back by the jinx.
Lucia sent a second spell towards Rose, hitting her before she could slide out of the way. Rose winced, the spell catching her clothes aflame. She snarled at herself, but tried to brush it off- the fire would be out soon, and she was alright.
She let out a breath, keeping her gaze on the Hufflepuffs. She had to stay on her toes.

Emma wanted to cry, instead she bit her lip as first Kim's Flipendo hit her, the breath being knocked out of her as she was hit. She just seemed to get her breath back when Rose stole it yet again, the Incendio having landed with precise aim. She hated the spell, tears rising to her eyes, although she did her best to keep them from falling. She completely missed Lucia casting her spell, but was somewhat relieved to see that it landed and Rose was now in a similar situation as she. At least she wasn't the only one on fire, though that wasn't much comfort. Emma wished she had been able to duck the spell much like the first sell she ducked in the first round but she had been distracted and it showed.
Realizing it was her time to cast, Emma's lip trembled as she did her best to cast Incendio at Kim however nothing happened. Now on top of the pain and frustrating from being hit by both of their opponents, Emma was dealing with the embarrassment of not even casting a spell, leaving her partner in the lurch. Tears began slowly falling. Emma moved her head so that her hair at least blocked most of the view, doing her best to keep from catching it on fire as well.

"Incendio Duo!" Lucia called out, and, across the piste, a flame hit Rose just as Rose herself shot a spell towards Emma. Once again, Lucia remembered her first duel. Back then, she'd hated to set people on fire, but now she just saw it as part of the sport. It wasn't fun, exactly, but everybody knew what they'd signed up for and violence was, sadly, just something that came with the game.
And yet.
When Lucia looked over at her duelling partner, she was suprised to see... tears? "Come on, Emma." She hoped that she didn't sound mean. Usually, Lucia was fine with people crying, but this wasn't really the time or the place. "We've got this! We're doing great."

Almost a third of the duel in, and things were already devolving into chaos. Both sides were completely ignoring that one of their duelists were aflame, choosing instead to throw spells, at each other as if I was going out of style; and the casting was becoming increasingly erratic.
Lucia, the elder of the Hufflepuff duelists failed to produce any spell at all. Emma, fared better, but her spell was sidestepped by the elder Gryffindor without much fanfare.
The Lions, meanwhile, continued their offensive; though Kim’s conjured blindfold and flew off to the side, and Rose’s disarming spell failed to quite land on target. @Bridget Collins
”HALT,” he announced, stepping in between the duelists. It was not the done thing, definitely. It was not proper, and he would perhaps face backlash for it later from his captain @Bridget, but in this moment, he felt the need to break this up, and give each of the duelists a second to cool off. Not that he could admit as such, though.
Instead, he looked over each of contestant, trying to appraise the damage that each had sustained in turn. Miss Moon had been battered by several spells it seemed, as had Miss Wynn, but the other two were only winded and frazzled, not hurt.
Several more seconds ticked by, before Hui-Ming nodded.
“You may resume.”

But that wasn't to say it would continue to go like this. Duels were always unpredictable by nature. For both sides. Therefore, it wasn't surprising when things changed for the next round and none of the duelists ended up being successful at hitting their opponents. Kim's first attempt at casting the Blindfolding Spell was good enough to make the item come out of thin air after his incantation. But applying it to the eyes of his opponent was harder to do. He came close to making it stick but the blindfold went right on by, instead of wrapping itself around Emma's eyes. An unfortunate miss. Kim noticed a few streaks of wetness... Could Emma be crying because of all the attacks on her from the previous rounds? Or was it because she'd gotten really hurt? Kim didn't think the attacks had been that powerful, unless she took pain differently than others. However, if she ended up feeling this way during every match, maybe dueling wasn't the right choice for her. Duelists got hit and hit others all the time. That was the whole point of doing the wizard sport. If you couldn't handle all the pain and suffering that came from getting hit, what were you doing there as a duelist? Sure you could cry. Such as when you got set on fire and flames were burning your very skin up, it was an involuntary reaction. For some people that is. Or cry at the end of the match when you lost the match. Or won the match. Sad tears or happy tears. Cry out of frustration from losing, or cry out of sheer happiness that you'd won. But crying during a match, unless you were on fire, wasn't a good idea. You would obscure your vision and make it harder for you to achieve good results. At least Emma had a reason to cry, for now. She was on fire and burns tended to make lots of people break out into tears. Rose's spell also missed, which was a real shame.... Both of them had missed hitting their opponents this time. On the other hand, Emma tried to cast the same spell that had hit her earlier, targeting Rose. But Rose was able to easily sidestep the spell as it went past her. Lucia, seemed to have been distracted by her partner, or maybe by one of the Lions. After all, Lucia and Rose had been looking at eachother earlier at the start of the match as if they knew eachother from before. Whatever the reason was, none of the four duelists had managed to be able to connect with their opponents. Not this round. Which implied the next round something would happen, unless history repeated itself... Kim took a deep breath and let it out slowly, trying to focus. It was around this time Ming called for a time-out. This was not something that usually happened, he'd never had it happen before in any of the duels he'd been part of. It seemed as if Ming was just doing it to give them all a breather though. If Kim and Rose had been doing really well, he wouldn't have appreciated this. After all, giving their opponents time to breathe and recollect themselves could mean the difference between winning and losing. But right now wasn't good. No one had an advantage over the other one. So it was a good time to rest and recollect themselves. |

Hufflepuff vs Gryffindor: Match 5
@Kim Sato | @Lucia Fox | @Emma Wynn | @Fang Hui-Ming
Rose’s spell shot across the stage towards Emma, but missed its mark. No spell seemed to land on its target that round. A spell didn’t even come from Lucia’s wand.
The moderator called a stop to the duel. Rose hadn’t really noticed that she had been breathing sort of quickly, and panted a little in the silence. The dueling had been pretty intense the past couple of minutes. She relaxed her stance and caught her breath, taking advantage of the pause. Only a couple of rounds into the duel, and they were already stopped.
When Rose looked at Emma, it was- was she crying? Rose felt a pang of guilt. Was this Emma’s first duel? She didn’t know, but it made Rose feel bad that she had made somebody cry. The redhead couldn’t look at Emma, and instead kept her gaze on the moderator. It was fine- this was something that came with dueling.
Rose straightened her posture again, leveling her wand at the opponents and the duel resumed.

Emma appreciated her partners encouraging words but she was feeling that she was not participating very well or supporting her partner. She was a walking, talking target who couldn’t seem to land anything. And this round, she would be surprised to see that change. What did change is that it seemed the Gryffindors didn’t land anything. That was surprising as they had been doing so well. But then it was Emma’s turn and she was surprised to cast something but then disappointed to see Rose easily sidestep it. What was more awful (at least for the Hufflepuff duo) was that Lucia didn’t land her spell either. It seemed like the round had been more practice casting than anything.

When Ming had said they may resume, it appears the Hufflepuffs had not quite managed to recover themselves, as they did not react in time as the Gryffindors started casting.
Unsurprisingly, they went straight for Emma.
Rose cast a Wind Jinx, reducing the younger Hufflepuff's mobility even as Kim Sato's Knockback Jinx caught.
To the girls credit, she was standing. He did not know how long that would continue to be true.
