Qrow | #064107 | Qrow's Thoughts | #11a513
Ironically enough, Andre had been left with the Hufflepuff table, and while it was definitely cleaner than the table of the snakes, it still wasn’t the best. Qrow had to try desperately to keep themselves from laughing when he was left with the table.
"All this for a bit of peas and carrots... Crazy perfect. Can't have a bit of fun." He muttered, rather bitterly, in French; in turn, the redhead replied, telling him not to let this get to him with a small smile. All in all, Andre seemed rather nice, and, as an added bonus, he had quite the mischievous streak too.
If only the others were like that too.
"No way on this earth are we cleaning it all up," Lucian complained, obviously to nobody in particular, before turning to Qrow.
"You sound pretty chipper. All this is a load of tosh. All it does is reinforce cleaning as a punishment, as a bad thing, thus making us less likely to do it in the future off our own backs."
No, what really reinforces cleaning as a punishment is you complaining about it, Qrow thought.
Rather annoyingly, the boy seemed to be content rattling on with his complaints, and as much as Mornstern's stupidity and his talking over the music irritated Qrow, they weren’t going to say anything about it.
Pick your battles and all that...
"So... how’s everyone feeling about the fact we will be second years soon? We get to torment little bitty firsties!"
The redhead snorted in amusement before answering.
"I'm rather excited; more so for the summer, if anything, it'll be good to see my family again, and as for our second year, hopefully I'll be able to try my hand at broom racing. You?"
It probably wasn’t the best idea to say something like that in front of the two prefects, especially considering they were already in detention. Still, they had been utterly tormented by some of their older cousins when they first started, and they were looking forward to being able to do the same.
Was anyone in their family starting Hogwarts next year? Gods, Qrow had so many cousins that it was hard to keep up with them all.
"What’s your name again?" Lucian asked them, only to gag as he picked up another dish.
Lucian Mornstern, Qrow decided, was a student that the child had incredibly mixed feelings about. On one hand, he was a bit of a prat, and, on the other, he was also rather funny—though he was also an 11-year-old at the end of the day; what he really needed was a growth spurt and some time to mature...
"Qrow Beithir." They replied calmly before the boy moved on to talking—or rather, shouting across the hall—at Lilliana.
──────────────────────────────▱──────────────────────────────
Qrow had to have been cleaning dishes for what felt like an hour—maybe two—before they had finished, and, by this point, the Slytherin was now half way through sweeping the floors before they could then move onto mopping them. …
After that, they’d be done with their side of things. Hopefully, they could help the others and get everyone out of here before midnight. Though, with some of their peers' attitudes, they were only really willing to help Nora and maybe Andre...
Honestly, something that Qrow Beithir failed to understand was their fellow students' mistreatment of house elves. The poor creatures did just about everything for their masters, only to be treated like the scum of the earth in return; not only that, but they never once complained or asked for better treatment! The entire prospect of the poor creatures only living to serve was simply barbaric!
"You want us to be house elves?" Lilliana had said earlier, before whispering something under her breath that the redhead didn’t quite catch. It was attitudes like hers that really made the child's blood boil, and had it not been for all of their very obvious distaste for Avery Levert as well as not wanting to be on Opeila Winter’s bad side, Qrow would have called both her and Lucian out on their backwards ways of thinking.
Alas, there was a time and a place for that, and right now, this was another battle the metamorphmagus was willing to start.
Speaking of the others, what was probably surprising to them was that the redhead still seemed to be completely unaffected by their lack of sleep, and, considering the good time they were making, they would be back in their dorm room in no time. In all honesty, they hoped that how unaffected and unbothered they were when it came to this so-called punishment would aid in pissing off Avery.
Upon finally finishing the floor, which had been swept and mopped from one side of the great hall to the other, the Slytherin smiled sweetly at the two prefects before heading over to Nora and beginning to help with the last of her dishes.
There weren't many left on the Ravenclaw table, but the first-year had a feeling that Lucian would take offence if they tried to help him first, despite him having the most mess to clean up. That boy did not need his pride to take another hit today; his angry muttering was already annoying enough...
They also decided against going to one of the other two students first, as Qrow didn’t know either Andre or Lilliana enough to gauge their reactions to their help; besides, Nora was a friend, and friends helped each other.
"We’re almost done," the redhead said with a smile as they washed a goblet from the Ravenclaw table.

Detention: A Long Night

German | English | Mother | Father | Grandad | Brother
The Hufflepuff told us about his dreams to be a dueller and then go back to cleaning a plates. “That’s brilliant mate. I, actually, aspire to be part of the Slytherin duelling team too! After my tiff with Raizel, and detention when Miss Langstreth mentioned the team, my interest was piqued,” I told him. “Maybe we will come across another someday?” was my added reply as I reached for a cup that… looked like it had gravy goop in it.
Mank. Honestly, I can see why this is a house elf job. “Ewww” I cried when some of the goop got on my hand. I started flinging my hand around to get it off, searching for anything to wipe it with. Not finding anything, I wiped my hand on the bottom of my robes. Apologies for ruining it, mother.
Soon enough, I had cleaned a good portion of what I was meant to do! I’m trying to decide if my mother will forgive the reasoning behind my being here in favour for the knowledge that her son actually cleaned something— I already know dad and my grandfather will be heavily disappointed for my ‘ungentlemanly behaviour’ that I displayed.
Qrow spoke up, I agreed with her family sentiment. I couldn’t wait to see my family again, even though I only just saw them back at Easter. “Yeah, it is nice to see family again!” I told them. “Broom racing looks very exhilarating. Not a fan of flying myself so it’s hopefully the duellers way,” and maybe burn off some energy! It was also much fun!
“I mean, my little brother will be starting Hogwarts in maybe two years I think?” I don’t think he’s a Slytherin to be honest. I turned to André. “He’s probably gonna be in your house mate,” I said, a smile forming on my face at the thought of my brother finally being here! I can teach him so much stuff — maybe also encourage unsanctioned things. Can’t have him growing up with a stick up his arse!
After asking for Qrow’s name, they answered me. Beithir. That name sounds familiar. Oh! Wait… are they the kid of - ah what are their bloody names? There’s Daemon Beithir, Naimh Beithir and a really long name Hephaestus Beithir. Yes, that’s it. They have three parents, a fact neither me nor my family are fond of yet they are family capable of great things. I’ve never met them, really (baring Qrow) yet i’ve heard a great deal. Very hush of their opinions and beliefs.
I looked at Qrow with a curious eye, where did they stand in their family?
“Nice,” I replied, “Lucian Mornstern,” I introduced, looking away to take care of more pots and pans. Honestly, I’m not sure what to make of Qrow. On one hand, I barely know them. They were cool enough to even be in the predicament that led them to throw carrots at me, one doesn’t fling carrots accidentally. Qrow wasn’t stuck up, not afraid of what people make of them. Yet, on the other hand… I don’t know.
Sighing, I focused more on cleaning and letting the song drift through the room. I grimaced a little and shifted my weight, that’s right. Full moon in two days. Shit. (I grabbed a plate and found that it only had reminisce of mash so that was easy enough). They are the bane of my existence. Oh…
“Oi, Qrow,” I called, turning around and seeing they were helping Nora. “Can’t she do it herself?” I questioned, placing down a bowl. “Are you incompetent?” I said, just noticing my rather harsh tone. I clenched my jaw and directed my attention back at Qrow. “What I was going to say was what are you thoughts on that organisation; SCARAB?” I wanted to hear their thoughts.
With all the headlines about them I don’t trust them and I think they are a shit group anyway. We all know that the only thing that group is interested in is Squibs, regardless to what they say. Squibs… well to put it bluntly they are worthless. Born from magical descent only to be powerless. They are just reminds to us all that we got lucky, that… that we were chosen by the world to represent our kind. Magical kind. All that talk about being there for all is tosh.
I still want to know more about it to be honest. I should ask my father, he keeps up with stuff like this and my grandfather.

As Nora worked on her allotted table, she listened to the others talk. Andre muttered something in French (Nora barely understood it; it had been forever since she spoke the language) and talked with the Slytherin boy about their ambitions to be duellists. Nora didn't mind the idea, though she was caught between it and broom racing. She loved flying, but she also loved combat, magical or otherwise. In fact, one pf her favourite hobbies was kickboxing, which she'd done ever since she was little. Just before coming to Hogwarts, she'd earned her green belt.
The Slytherin boy was talking to Qrow as well, and he soon introduced himself as Lucian Mornstern. As he did, Nora noticed that Qrow was already done with their table, and was heading over to help Nora. She was grateful for their help (it was fair to say she was struggling), but it seemed like not everyone was happy about it.
“Oi, Qrow,” Lucian called once he'd seen what was going on, “Can’t she do it herself?” He questioned, before looking to Nora and saying, “Are you incompetent?”
Nora put down the plate she'd been washing, and turned to glare at the boy. "I," she said coldly, "am perfectly capable of doing it myself, you brat. Just because Qrow--" she nodded towards the other Slytherin "--is being nice, doesn't mean I can't do it myself." At this, she let out of a frustrated puff of breath. “You should really be the one cleaning this hellhole, seeing as you did the most damage, and I didn't even throw anything." Now she was really getting mad, but she held herself back from saying a bunch of other nasty things. She hated that word; incompetent. It was the kind of thing her dad would call her, whenever her mom ever defended or helped her in any way. After a while, she just began rejecting the help her mother gave her. She wanted it, but she didn't need it, and she would prove that to her dad. Not that he cared.
But how dare that boy call her that? Just looking at the pathetic excuse for a Slytherin made her blood boil. That brat. What was his name? Luke? No, Lucian, Lucian Mornstern. Nora would add him on to her list of people to ‘punish’, right after Leveret. First, Mornstern had doused her mint sauce for apparently no reason, which had ended with her getting an underserved detention, and now he was insulting her. That boy was endlessly foolish, stuck up and rash as well. He’d be better suited for Gryffindor, but maybe the sorting hat pitied him. Nora certainly did.
Turning back towards her work, Nora let herself get lost in the music. It was better than listening to the Slytherin boy whine. With Qrow’s help, they made quick work of the table, and in less than an hour, Qrow commented that they were almost done. Looking around, Nora was glad to see that this was true. She didn’t know how much longer she’d be able to be stuck in a room, no matter how big, with brats like Mornstern and Leveret. It was almost like they enjoyed raining another people's parade.
Did Leveret even know what a parade was? By his sour attitude, she guessed not.
Oh well.

Detention: A Long Night
───── Lilliana rolled her eyes in response to Lucian’s comment, but she nodded her head in agreement. The first year attempted to scrub a particularly green stain off vigorously with a towel, her arm moving back and forth wildly. The blot disintegrated slightly, but most of it was still there. She blew out a puff of air, and tried again, this time managing to remove the stain. Lilliana glanced at her towel, nearly gagging at the gross shade of, whatever it was. This was annoying. At least the music made the whole thing a little more endurable.
It still didn’t stop her boredom from increasing. Apparently Lucian felt the same, “So… how’s everyone feeling about the fact we will be second years soon?” He inquired. Wait. She found it hard to believe they would be moving up a year soon... But she stayed silent for a bit, listening to Lucian, who exclaimed he was thrilled that he would be able to torment next year’s firsties. Lilliana glanced at the prefects, and had to bit her lip to stop herself from laughing, but a light giggle slipped out.
Then, André, who said he wanted to be a duellist next year. Lilliana nodded to that, duelling looked so fun! She had seen duels a couple times before, they were exciting to watch for sure. Qrow mentioned their enthusiasm for summer, and that they might want to try out broom racing.“It’s kind of hard to wrap my head around the fact that we’ll be second years soon...” Lilliana said, in a daze. “Might want to have a go at dueling~ Plus, only one more year until we can go to Hogsmeade!” Legally, at least. She had ventured out to Hogesmeade, multiple times, but she didn’t need to state that in front of two prefects.
She went back to cleaning, but it didn’t take a while for her to get roped into another conversation. “What?” Lilliana asked promptly, as Lucian called out her name. What did he want? She momentarily stopped cleaning to look him in the eye. He asked her if she had any siblings, to which she raised her eyebrow to. An odd question. But, it wasn't as if she had anything better to do, “I don’t,” Lilliana said, “What about you?” She must have been desperate to get rid of her boredom, engaging in the most pointless conversations like this.
Qrow finished with their section and went over to help Nora, to which Lucian made (yet another) remark. Nora snapped back, though, making Lilliana smirk. Her remarks were true, out of all of them, Lucian seemed to have been the one who threw the most food -- getting Lilliana involved as well. She would have much preferred to stay at the sidelines... He should be the one cleaning the place, not the rest of them...

It was a tad hard not to overhear others conversations, and just in general on what they are saying. With this André had learned some things about Qrow and some of the others he was with. Qrow wanted to join there House broom racing team, and Lucian wanted to join the Duelling team. All that was missing was someone who wanted to be a quidditch player. By this point he finally got the plate all clean and moved on to the next one. It was much more clear then the last. Which André appreciated quite a bit! "Maybe so! If that does ever happen, I hope that you will be a fair opponent " André smiled at the Slytherin boy.
He then went on to explain how his younger sibling would perhaps be joining himself in hufflepuff. "That would be great! Hufflepuff is an amazing house" Lucian seemed nice, he wasn't being rude at least. As well as him wanting to be a dullest, so all good things in his book! By this point it had been a couple hours, maybe. And there was great progress all around, Qrow had finished first. And went over to help Nora at Ravenclaw's end. Quite nice of them, "Maybe you all can come over here next!" he joked. He was doing good work by himself, but still some help would be well helpful.
He picked up his next dish, swaying to the music that was currently playing. He was also listening to the small banter that was going on. With Nora, Lucian and Qrow. Lilliana had been fairly quite, or maybe he just was to focused on everything else that was going on. He hadn't had a chance to talk much at all to the girl after the train ride, "Hey Lilliana," he called out, "How have things been? Haven't really talked since the train." things had been good on his end, and he hoped the same for Lilliana. He wiped a bit of sweet from his brow, not being used to this much work in one night.
He hoped that most everyone was done or close to done, so that they could get out of there. If he fished soon he would go and help someone out, as Qrow had done with Nora. He thought he was doing good! A pace that was working for him, and well. He was starting to get in the Grove. Maybe he would help his dad out with dishes during summer.

Detention: A Long Night
───── Time passed, filled with the not so glorious art of scrubbing down the Gryffindork Table. If this is supposed to make me sympathise the House Elves, Lilliana thought to herself bitterly, rubbing down a sticky yellow substance more vigorously than ever, It definitely is not working, She lifted up her sponge, peering at her work intently to see if the patch of food had been erased. No luck. Although the large stain on the tabletop was faded, and broken off at places, it was still very much there. Lilliana didn’t even bother hiding her groan.
“Aren’t House Elves made for cleaning?” Lilliana wondered aloud, rolling her eyes. At this point, she was too weary to cover up her distaste for the task, not caring about letting that obnoxious smirk of Avery’s slide onto his face once again with satisfaction anymore. Might as well just get this over with. “Why do I have to pick up their mess?” Lilliana murmured the last part to herself. She had thrown the food just once (and that was entirely Lucian’s fault), but she still was forced to clean the whole table? Although, the Gryffindor Table didn’t seem as messy comparatively to the others, it didn’t make it any less dull.
Lilliana worked, making slow but steady progress, at least from her eyes. While Lilliana wasn’t in the mood for any conversations, she didn’t have anything else to do except listen to the others that were going on, with a light mix of wizarding music in the background. André seemed to be more lively than her, from the way he spoke. There was something about it that was infectious, it didn’t make her suddenly cheery, but some of her annoyance melted away. “Hey Lilliana,” He had called to her, making the blond haired girl look up. "How have things been? Haven't really talked since the train."
That was true. Their first journey to Hogwarts had been all the way back in September, now it was April — No, the beginning of May already! Time was passing by far too quickly for her liking. Lilliana nodded, “It’s been a while since we’ve last met,” She hadn’t seen him much, since then, up until the food fight earlier — though they both were too lost in the chaos surrounding them to count that as an actual meeting. “It’s been pretty good, though!” Lilliana said airily, “Everything’s gone fairly smoothly this year, what about you?” She asked him.
The first year looked back at her table. The workload was a lot less than it was a little while earlier. Finally, a good sign. She thought to herself before calling out to everyone else in the hall, “Any of you close?” Hopefully they could all ditch this place soon enough.

"It really has been a while!" he said with a small laugh. It was crazy on how big Hogwarts was that he didnt see Liliana much at all since the beginning of the year. Even in the food fight they hadn't talked much at all. He was happy to hear that she has been good, as well as smooth things on her end. "Ive been good as well! The homework has been getting me," he admitted. He really didnt do much of it, mostly the school work is how he's been getting decent grades. If and when he did do it, it was minimal effort. "Need to study more" he shrugged. Just because he said it, didnt mean he would be doing it.
Andre went back into focus mode, working on his dishes. Lots of lefotover food stuck to them. Thankfully some of the plates were going faster then others. And the pots and pans were going fast to. It was the cups that were talking the most time. The boy had yet to find the right way, to get it done fast as well as thoroughly. He sighed and brushed his brow. It was at this point when he had started to regret his choice to join in the fight. It was his actions that led him here, he knew it. But he didnt like it.
He was getting real close now, with just a few more to go before it was all said and done. "im almost done now. Dose anyone need some help once I finish?" he asked the rest of the group looking around at there tables. It was a Hufflepuff thing for him to say. It would make them all get out faster, so no harm. Waiting for a response he went back to work on the task at hand. He was closing in on the finish now. He dipped the sponge into the water again to scrub at the pot in his hand. Finishing it he set it down, only having two plates, some silverware and a cup left.
Smiling to himself he picked up the cup next, working at it with the soapy water. It didn't take him to long before he had finally finished up the whole of the Hufflepuff table. He again waited for someone to ask for help as he took a set on the bench, it was a long night. And the first year was pretty tired.
