my advice is to have Cassie lie and say she didn't know it was against school policy. Crying may also help ease the punishment

Well, if it's a first offense, and Beatrice genuinely believes her claim that she didn't know, she might not give her detention. But I'd suggest talking about it with Bea, since I am only speculating
