The girl I’d just winked at called me a brat and I smirked at her. But then I suddenly had mash potato in my face! I wiped it away, making sure to wipe my eyes a few times. I smirked at Qrow. “Shot,” I complimented.

That’s when I saw him.

He bellowed put an order and I refrained from rolling my eyes, man was the same age as us and he was bossing us around? Not even I would have wanted to be some a Prefect in first year. We are all knew to this school and finding out ways, now he was a Prefect. I felt his eyes on me and I clenched my jaw; of course he blames ME.

I was thinking that the same girl who tried to kill me would continue to annoy me,” I replied in a clipped tone. “That she clearly can’t try anything again, so throwing food at me was the best solution. Avery, come on mate. Do you know what deindividuation is?” I questioned; I did. Where you lose your sense of self-identity, partake in crowd behaviour. Like the Mexican Wave for example!

Then he said something that made me curl my hands into fists of rage, my nostrils to flair and my jaw to clench. How. Dare. He. I act beneath my blood? And cleaning! Again?

Take deep breaths, Lucian. Retain your anger.

I stared Avery dead in the eyes. “Avery. I respect you. I do. You’re my fellow Slytherin first year, one of the lads. Can you not allow us this one moment of joyous memories?” I questioned, a grin forming. I wasn’t going to argue with him, there’s no point. I didn’t want to give myself the reputation as someone who argued with Prefects. I just had to man up and take the punishment dished to me. No point in spatting and getting a harsher sentence. After all, I knew deep down where it would lead if I reacted!

Wait wait. It was YOU who started it?” I questioned, my eyes snapping to the person who said it. I scoffed and shook my head, the memory of seeing wisps of hair coming back to me. Oh well, getting Ava satisfied me for now. But I think it will take me a while to feel comfortable again in my dorm now she’s back. Anyway, enough about Ava.

I sniggered a little, looking away, as the real food fight culprit said their last line. The Hufflepuff I noticed before had walked over, asking about his house. “I, for one, have no issues with the badgers,” I said to myself, a fellow Wolf was a Badger and she is pretty cool!

The Winked-At-Girl defended herself and I had to agree, “If I may add, she is telling the truth,” I am all for chaos, but I wasn’t going to allow a fellow Snake to be dragged into the shit I had a hand in causing. Especially if we were going to get detention. I’m not a rat — that history belongs to the Dorks. I cast a look at Rai at that comment, I wonder if she still had the potato?

The chaos starter then started ripping into her! “Hey, back off! I’m sure she didn’t mean to offend you! All you need to do is correct her, nicely might I add,” I defended. Why was I sticking up for Wink-Girl? Maybe I was just salty because they threw the first carrot.

Ava started talking and it actually was the truth — this time.I think me blaming you is justified,” I said to myself. I have all the right to accuse her!

Aye. I did announce it,” I admitted, I laughed softly. Not in a mean way though. “That would be the first time!” first time she is innocent I teased.

───── This turned into chaos real fast. Food flew throughout the Great Hall, evolving into a full-fledged food fight. “Who even started this?” Lilliana asked to no one in particular.

Then someone called out her name, who was none other than Lucian. She vaguely remembered seeing them around the common room, and hadn't they participated in Spin the Bottle? By the time Lilliana settled her gaze on him, Lucian was already launching a glob of grapes that seemed to have been smashed up. Duck! Lilliana instructed herself, as the grapes flew towards her. And she did. The Slytherin had ducked, all right, but it seemed she hadn't calculated the trajectory efficiently. Because the grape mush smacked right into her forehead.

The grapes felt weird on her skin, and she immediately sought for a napkin to wipe it off. Once she had -- for the most part, cleaned herself up, Lucian seemed to have also pelted Nora, that girl, she met in the Corridors earlier. It also hit Qrow, a Slytherin who she hadn't yet seen... Up until this moment, at least. She turned on Lucian, “What the hell was that?” She demanded, her eyes narrowed and her posture stiff.

André said hello to her, in an upbeat demeanor. She waved at them, her eyebrows slightly raised. He looked rather enthusiastic. Lilliana did have to admit, the food fight (it was safe to assume this had developed into a food fight by now, proven after Lucian hollered food fight and starting throwing food at everyone) was intriguing to watch. As a bystander. Up until the moment she got hit with the grapes, she was enjoying it.

Speaking of the grapes... She had never gotten back at Lucian for that. Although she hadn't intended to take part in the food fight, she felt it was only fair to get some payback. Lilliana scoured the area, her eyes landing on her salad. No... She told herself. Salad wouldn't compensate for the mushy grapes. The first year scooped up some corn next to it, which appeared more mush than corn, shoving it in Lucian’s face with a smirk.

Then he came. Leveret, the prefect. It was bound to happen eventually, but Lilliana still grew stiffer as he arrived. They mentioned being ‘beneath their blood’ to the group of snakes, and managed to throw a jab to André, the Hufflepuff as well. Her eyes darted to André, who had flicked a pea at Avery. Although that seemed like a fair response after the remark Avery had made, the prefect probably wouldn't let that go unnoticed. Which meant detention.

Should she have shoved the corn in his face? Well, Lucian deserved it, but would she have to face the repercussions? Hopefully not, She thought. Maybe she could get out of this. Chances were slim, but, what harm was there, right? It seemed that others had similar tactics, talking their way out. The thing was, shoving food in Lucian’s face probably warranted detention... There was no use in lying, there were plenty of witnesses there to contradict her statement.

Qrow had proclaimed that they were the person who caused this whole thing to begin with, earning a glare from Lilliana. Why would they even admit to that in the first place? Lilliana wondered. If they were trying to avoid detention, their attempt certainly wasn't working. But, it looked like others were trying to defend themselves. While Nora kept quiet, Ava and the other girl, who had just called Lucian a prat had told the truth, which was all they needed. They hadn’t thrown anything, so it was likely that they were off the hook.

“I would just like to point out that I had been a bystander in all of this, up until Lucian chucked squished-up grapes at me, with no logical motive in mind.” Lilliana stated. Lilliana hesitated before opening her mouth and continuing again, “I only shot the peas at him because I was provoked,” Lilliana said, merely shrugging, but, she didn't like her chances. Hopefully, that would work.

Qrow | #064107 | Qrow's Thoughts | #11a513

Qrow hadn't meant to sound so mean when they corrected Maeve, but this entire situation had gotten incredibly out of hand over an accident, and they were slowly becoming increasingly infuriated over it all.
Avery Leveret had just gotten on their last nerves, and the fact that he was a prefect was mildly irritating. I mean, for fuck's sake, Qrow was definitely taller than him! He couldn't even be taller than 5 feet.
He was also ridiculously full of himself, even for a pureblood, and it starkly reminded the redhead of their grandmother. At least they rarely got into any trouble with her, and it was easy enough to get out of it when they did—the metamorphmagus could simply start crying and she'd panic, though whether that was out of her inability to comfort a crying child or due to her fear of their father was still undetermined.
Of course, now the child knew why she had been so keen on being a part of their lives.
Wait.
Would crocodile tears work on Avery? He didn't seem like the type to be capable of consoling somebody in tears, and if the redhead used their metamorphmagus abilities to look a little more like their father, Daemon Beithir, then surely he'd at least panic?
There was no way their parents didn't know one another; both families had a hand in wizarding politics, and Daemon had worked hard to keep up appearances despite not agreeing with his own family's pure-blood views. Besides, purebloods were well intertwined when it came to relationships. If one of them made a mistake, almost everyone knew about it, and it often cost them a great deal.
Qrow looked up at Avery from where they were still seated, their bottom lip wobbling slightly as their appearance changed again.
Gone were the blood-red eyes and hair that had appeared in their previous fit of anger, replaced by curling locks of inky black and their natural toxic green eyes that were so evident of the Beithir bloodline. Tears welled in those eyes, only falling as the freckles on their skin disappeared.
They lifted up their hands to scrub at their face, revealing a silver ring on the middle finger of their right hand—on it, a demonic-looking serpent coiled through the letter B—a symbol of the family that Qrow only wore at their father's insistence; it was supposedly to keep the child out of trouble with fellow pure-bloods, and they had never been so happy to own the stupid thing as they did now.
The tears kept falling, only seeming to get worse each time they wiped them away, and as they ‘tried desperately’ to talk in a way to apologise or explain themselves, however, all that came out was a series of blubbering sobs.

However embarrassing it all was, crying in front of the entirety of the great hall, it had the desired effect. People were staring now, some looking at Qrow with looks of pity and soft consolation, and others looking at Avery himself with angry distaste, likely assuming that he had been the reason for the redheads' tears.
Effie Willow and her sisters were looking at the Prefect with what seemed to be murderous intent, seemingly blaming him for their cousin's tears. Qrow would have to stop whatever those three were planning later, but right now, they were busy putting on a show.

Just a day of lovely calm and quiet, was that so much to ask? In house Slytherin it seemed to be. One moment Opeila had still been eating her meal, exchanging some smalltalk with her peers, the next she found herself walking towards the group of children a few meters away to stop something that seemed to have grown into a full food fight. Why ever these kids thought that picking a place and time where the majority of prefects and professors were present was suitable.

She had almost reached the group, when another prefect did- the newest hatchling of the prefect group. Opeila slowed her pace, giving the first year the chance to build up some kind of authority, that she would have likely struggled with at his age. If it went wrong, she would have his back, but not before.

And entirely wrong it went, much of it probably being his own fault. Opeila suppressed a sigh when in a matter of seconds he managed to insult all non-purebloods and Hufflepuffs in close vicinity and thereby seemingly lost the respect the group of children may have had for him to begin with. He would have a hard time from now on, she was sure. Had they been alone, she would have probably told him so, but she was not going to backstab a fellow prefect out in the open.

Instead she would approach the scene slowly, her posture relaxed and stop next to Avery. Not that she would take his moment away from him, she would let him handle it, but maybe her presence would put an end to the open disrespect he seemed to be exposed to now. "Hi, Avery. Is everything alright here?"
She shot a glare at the kid- a Hufflepuff- who threw the pea, picked it up and placed it on the table again. Not like she could blame him entirely, but... Well, she would be on the side of order here. "You are not helping your case, kid.", she commented dryly.

Quite unbothered by the hostility of the group that may also come her way now, she drew her wand and pointed it at Maeve first. "Scourgify." She would repeat this with the two other kids (Nora and Qrow), who were also covered in sauce, cleaning their clothes in a second. Letting Avery thinking of the punishment, she would start picking up a few of the pieces of vegetables that the ground was covered in and drop them onto the kids' plates. Hell, she was not going to do the cleaning up for them, but this would surely end their mealtime. Unless of course they were fine eating food that had been lying on the ground hundreds of students had just walked on within the last ten minutes, some of them surely came straight from a care of magical creatures class and who knew what they might have stepped into...

It was Colin who next got her attention, shouting out ideas for punishments. "Keep your nose in your business, McCoire.", was the stern answer, given in a lenient tone. She didn't feel bothered or annoyed by his involvement, but this was likely going to push feelings in an unnecessary way. The redhaired kid was already screaming around enough as it was.

Was it a stroke of luck or a misfortune that Caoimhe was perpetually surrounded by chaos? Did it occur fortuitously or did it trail her throughout the entire castle like a darkened shadow?

Preceding the chaotic events that followed, the night transpired in an unremarkable manner. At the conclusion of the day, akin to the majority of Wednesdays, Caoimhe experienced fatigue and proceeded with her routine in a perfunctory manner. The academic workload of studying History of Magic and Transfiguration had a draining effect on her, prompting her to conclude her day with a tranquil meal and a literary piece.

Intermittently, the girl would dispatch a missive to a specific acquaintance situated a few tables apart or further down from her own. Caoimhe would observe with mirth as other individuals extended their hand to retrieve the flying note to no avail, subsequently studying their countenance upon perusing her letter. A loud and disruptive noise, akin to that of a Howler, briefly interrupted the prevailing silence, eliciting laughter from those present before the environment returned to its previous state of mundanity. Overall, she would relish the absence of conversation opting to read instead.

While reading her book, Caoimhe would intermittently indulge in a sip of tea and a morsel of her diced vegetables and mash. While consuming her meal, she observed an unfamiliar specimen on her dish and noticed a spike in the decibel level of the surrounding students.

"What in Merlin's Beard," She uttered while setting her book down to stand up from her seat and leaning past students to witness the horror before her. A commotion involving the throwing of food items occurred, with Lucian being identified as the primary instigator, exhibiting behavior akin to that of an untamed canine. It was appropriate, given his lycanthropic nature.

It is possible that Caoimhe's inquisitive gaze, or the observation of unidentified individuals in her vicinity, may have drawn notice, as food was blindly hurled in her direction. Mashed potatoes were observed to scatter onto her and her companions' garments; however, her primary concern was to prevent her hair from becoming soiled. She utilized the hardcover of her book as a protective barrier to prevent food from coming into contact with her hair, but still was looking to see who else was involved in the vendetta. The vocalizations of Ava Winchect possessed a distinctive sound that was readily identifiable to Caoimhe. What further expectations could she have had of a so-called "Halfblood" individual, other than being paired with Lucian. This conduct was not befitting of his social status, or their House.

Order would be established swiftly, akin to the forceful impact of Thor's hammer, in response to the sudden onset of chaos. Enough! After putting down her book, she rose to her feet and observed Leveret donning a Prefect badge while working to make an effort to maintain order. The manner and speed in which he succeeded the hierarchy of their academic cohort was unusual albeit not entirely unforeseen though. While observing the situation, Caoimhe witnessed a pea being propelled towards Avery from a distance, causing her to suppress a grin with her hand. Soon another Prefect would arrive, shushing a chattery Colin in the process. "Finally, some people with sense," she uttered while sitting back down trying to remain unseen; she had no part in the madness, but being nosey didn't do her any good nonetheless.

T he vipers’ dark eyes were as piercing as the words woven by his tongue.

The Redhead was the first to speak up, one he had recognised. Whilst they shared a house and a school year, he was certain that they shared a social class. It seemed odd to consider now, especially given the contrast of the barbaric scene before him and the typical pureblood event that would see their families mingle. Many ill thoughts crossed his mind, added too by their apparent desire to rebel but one thought was left with him; their birth meant that they knew better, or else it was an immediate stain against their families’ reputation as parents and guardians. He was keenly aware of the pressures of pureblood life, but he didn’t act like an uncivilised leprechaun; and though they seemed taller of frame he certainly wouldn’t agree they were taller in character as they went on a rant that revaled he had clearly plucked a feather.

"You act beneath your blood." They repeated, he was glad they heard him and felt the need to reiterate his point. Perhaps if it came from their own mouth, his message would soon settle in. "The hell that supposed to mean, you pompous prick! For your information, I started it—by accident, mind you! I was joking around and let go of my spoon of carrots too fast, and things escalated from there. And what’s your problem with Hufflepuffs? Prefect or not, for a fellow first-year, you sure have a lot of nerve. Clearly nobody has informed you that your own arse can’t be used as a hat, as that's the only reason I can supply for your head being so far up it!" They said, which admittedly made him squint daggers at Qrow. Before he gave a reaction though, he trained his mind and offered nothing but a wicked smile.

“That’s one.” He said, turning his gaze to the next person, just in time for Qrow to begin crying; perhaps they knew how stupid they sounded; that their fate was sealed for sure now; and that mummy and daddy were sure to get some social backlash if this got out. A dark haired girl near to her, Nora, laughed and indeed placed herself in his line of sight; she didn’t even try to talk her way out of it so she must have been a culprit.

“That’s two of you.” He said, dryly.

His gaze turned just in time to spot the Hufflepuff, André, fling a pea at him. Avery didn’t bother to move. He felt it sent a better message to stand there, steadfast, as a tiny green garden pea struck him on the breast and dropped to the floor rather anticlimactically, as he levelled the boy with a disappointing stare. “You’ll be joining them. – Though I can’t say I expected a Hufflepuff to reason their way out of detention." He said, idly brushing the tiny gravy stain now on his outer robe. It was then he noticed Opeila at his flank, who picked up the pea and placed it onto a table; threateningly, and Caoimhe stifling a giggle; how she was almost laughing was beyond him given the weighty words he had thrown around.

“Hi Avery, is everything alright here?” Opeila gave. She was nice enough, he knew, but perhaps that worked in his favour.

“Just getting to the bottom of what seems to be a circus performance. - My guess is clown fever has infected the brains of every Slytherin student I had previously thought to be, tolerable.” Avery replied, laced with venom. The intention of it was to get his unruly housemates to reflect on the situation and err on the side of reason. Thankfully for him, one of them did; Maeve Selwyn.

“I would like to explain myself, actually." She said as she shot up from her position, finally someone with some stuff about them. They way she said it made Avery attentive to what she had to say, wondering if he’d made a breakthrough; she was surely of good blood. "Respectfully, a case of wrong place wrong time." She said, before glowing at Mornstern. "For me, at least. Something flew over at him, apparently from her. – And all hell broke loose. The most I did was tell them to knock it off, and instead got drenched in food myself." She said. There it was, value.

Just before he went to speak, the redhead spoke out again but he was keen to hear what they had to say: "You should bear in mind not to assume. – My pronouns are they/them, and I am both male and female, the best of both things! Besides, didn’t you just call Mornstern a brat? Perhaps you should stop being such a kiss-up?" They gave, which was fair enough. Though it did give him an idea…

“Thank you. - Slytherin could do with more students like you.” He gave with a smile to Maeve, one designed to provoke one or more students. He wanted to encourage that kind of behaviour, especially since it made his job easier. Slytherin was all about stepping over people to get to the top, but Avery was of the opinion that they should look like an unstoppable unit, outwardly to the world. “Get yourself cleaned up—” He said, just as Opeila extended her wand and cast “Scourgify!”, which saw the processed eased for most if not all the students involved; including Ava who was already standing in the aisle, then making her case:

“Here’s what actually happened,” Ava said, wiping her face with a nearby napkin. “This entire table, was minding their own business when someone–flung food at Lucian. He was quick to blame it on me—” She said, having pointed Qrow out. “—even though I had some of the food on me from it being flung! Proving that I didn’t do anything. Then he grabbed some food, mashed it into my face, and I got up to find a staff member because I couldn’t care enough to deal with this today. As I’m walking, I get hit by food again. He declares it a food fight and that was that. The. End. I’m. Innocent.” She testified, gods it was a lot and he could hardly remain focused on it all as his eyes shot around and darted to all those she gestured to; including Lucian who he had yet to hear from.

”Thank you Ava, I believe you.” He gave with a nod, as if gesturing that she was free to go. Colin chimed in then, and Opeila quickly batted him down. His own attention remained on Lucian and Lilliana.

“Avery. I respect you. I do. You’re my fellow Slytherin first year, one of the lads. Can you not allow us this one moment of joyous memories?” Came at him from Lucian, who had earlier been talking but Avery hadn’t made it out; which would have only made things worse anyway, and given his glowering stare Avery wasn’t too keen on letting it slide. Pride was strong amongst purebloods, at least it should have been; and he wasn’t going to let someone give his house a reputation just because they were friends. He went on to verify Ava and Maeve’s story, seemingly not knowing that Qrow had initiated it all.

”Unfortunate circumstances, Mornstern. - You escalated it, you’ll be paying the price with them.” He said matter-of-factly, as if the matter was out of his hands entirely. That was the main culprits sorted, he expected. Lilliana was left to speak but she didn’t strike him as the kind; and yet her own admission was her downfall…

“I would just like to point out that I had been a bystander in all of this, up until Lucian chucked squished-up grapes at me, with no logical motive in mind.” She paused. “I only shot the peas at him because I was provoked.” She said, so close to salvation. He levelled her with the same disappointing look he had given André.

”Like with like is not a defence, I expected better of you. - I expected better of you all. You, you, you, you and you, you’ll all be staying behind after dinner. Try to sneak out of the hall and I’ll personally be letting your families know. - Maybe in future you'll consider acting like wizards and not like a band of chimps.” He gave, pointing to Qrow, Nora, André, Lucian and Lilliana. His judgement was ruled, and he wasn’t going to change his mind.

”Enjoy what’s left of your dinner.” He said finally, turning to speak with Opeila. ”Would you mind keeping an eye on them whilst I go and inform the House Elves?” He said rather loudly. The thought of all these tables being filled with pots, pans, plates, cups and such pleased him greatly; he just had to go and organise it.
Judgement rendered, the named characters will serve detention in a thread that will be posted shortly. Avery is still in the thread.

At Avery’s statement of their detention, Qrow stopped their show of crocodile tears immediately, letting out an obscene string of Gaelic curses under their breath as they reverted back to their original anger so quickly that it was amazing that the child hadn’t gotten whiplash.

Honestly, they couldn’t care less about the detention, and their parents had all had their fair share of troublemaking during their own time at Hogwarts, so it would hardly come as a surprise to them. Honestly, the only person it would upset was their grandmother, Hel Beithir, and after her manipulation attempt to try and get Qrow to buy into pure-blood ideals, the child should have been ecstatic at the prospect of bringing "dishonour" to the old hag.

Unfortunately, Avery Leveret had left an adult sour taste in the young Slytherin's mouth, and had it not been for their respect of the other prefect, Opeila, and her fairness in dishing out punishments, Qrow would have told him exactly where to stick his quill and detention slip.
Or rather, that had been the plan...

The moment Mornstern mentioned his respect for Avery, Qrow lost it as they desperately attempted to stifle their laughter and brush it off as hiccups.
‘Avery. I respect you. I do.’
Honestly, the redhead couldn’t help but respect Mornstern for being able to say that with a straight face. How anyone could respect the pretentious troll that was Avery Levert was beyond them.

Qrow stood up, hiding their face behind their hands and their laughter in fake hiccups as they left the great hall. Who cares if they didn’t finish their dinner? They had enough snacks in their dorm anyway.

After a few other Slytherins gave their defences, the prefect spoke again:

"You, you, you, you and you, you’ll all be staying behind after dinner. Try to sneak out of the hall, and I’ll personally be letting your families know. - Maybe in future you'll consider acting like wizards and not like a band of chimps.”

What? Detention? Was he kidding? She hadn't even thrown anything! It was that stupid boy who'd done most of the damage, including wrecking her sweater. And he didn't even seem ashamed. Why was Avery also punishing her?

Nora stared at the prefect, both frustrated and confused. "Hey, wait a minute!" she called towards him, before it was too late. "I swear I didn't throw anything; I'm just a bystander here. Yeah, I laughed at you--" Oops. Maybe she shouldn't have admitted the laughing, but it was too late now. "--But you can't give me detention just for that!"

At least, that she was aware. If prefects could just willy-nilly hand out punishments, why were there rules at all? Looking around, Nora bit her lip. Someone must be able to attest to her story, to prove she wasn't lying. Her gaze landed on Qrow, but they were already leaving, along with Nora's chances of being believed. It was utterly unfair to give her detention, especially since the prefect hadn't even had any proof that she'd interacted in the fight. Not one finger was pointed at her! And yet, Nora was still landed with a detention.

Things had surely escalated, that was for sure. Plenty of people tried to defend themselves stating their cases. How they were innocent, and they were dragged into it. Honestly people? If you threw the food you threw the food. André knew that's, that was one of the main reasons he didn't try to defend himself.

He dis get a tad upset when one of the older Slytherin boys, someone he met once. Got involved, pretty much acting as a narrator on what happened. André shot him a quick glare when he made the tooth brush recommendation. "Do you think your helping? Sorry but I need to know." he said to Colin. André did smile at the boy, Lucian. Who 'had no problem with the baggers'. Nice to know some people were on his side.

Annnd then came another perfect. A Slytherin one. She was a bit older the the group. She probably had no issues with blood status and houses. Like the current one, Beneath your blood? That was such an old thing to think. That there was stuff that was below certain blood status. To André it seemed to him this this guy would have completely expected the food fight to happen form a bunch of muggle borns. And that was something André just couldn't understand. They were all magic. Right?

When Opeila made her comment, André just smiled and shrugged. "Not much would right?" he threw the pea, he would not deny that. Nor that he threw the carrots. It was less then what some other people had thrown, and they certainly were getting detention. So might as well have some fun with it. And besides he thought the pea was deserved.

By this time Avery was now handing out detentions. It took little to no time before he reached André, with another dig at his house. "Ill have you know, that pea was deserved. And I didn't see a point in trying to reason with you." He said coldly. He was getting mad now. He could have said more but refined. Boy would he have a monster of an owl to send to his parents. He debated taking up that offer of trying to leave the hall, but instead he glared at Avery before continuing too his food. With slight dread on what would be going down after.

Maeve grappled with the knowledge of misgendering a student, a feeling that was admittedly far from pleasant. However given the current state of affairs, the timing for apologies seemed rather inopportune. After all, how was she supposed to have known? With the only thing in the girl's line of sight being a mess of red curls, it'd been an honest mistake. Not much of an excuse, but she didn't really want it to be either. All she could do was linger quietly on Qrow, silently accepting that her sorries would have to wait. After all, they made a point; 2023 left little room to assume.

The accusation of kissing up to the prefect left her nothing short of offended, though, regardless of how deserved it'd been. For the first time tonight she was successful in biting that tongue of hers, the snide remark of 'looks like you're one too' only aching to be said aloud. As the conversation continued, she listened intently to variations of the story being compiled. The girl that spoke next was recognizable as the one who Lucian had originally struck. Good for her, really. Something about the two screamed major baggage, and only now that she'd gotten a closer look had she paired the face to the supposed murder rumors. Maybe.. not so good after all.

Speaking of Lucian, it'd been a lie if she said she didn't feel a twinge of shock as the boy agreed with her. Stood up for her? For a moment, she found herself questioning her initial perception of him. Maybe not all that terrible, even if he got gravy in her hair. She'd done her fair share of baiting in any case, and if that girl really had tried to kill him.. Then perhaps it was hard to blame him entirely. Still, it was hard to see past the previous rage that clouded her eyes.

Fortunately, her relief was extended indefinitely; leaving Maeve pleased with whatever sense the prefect did possess. A bit difficult to say the same for the others, fortune and decency hardly favorable on their ends. Though with the following comment, Maeve stood in silence as it mulled over in her mind. Slytherin needed more people like her? Not only unexpected, but strangely validating. It was as if her actions had been recognized as valuable, even necessary. Or perhaps meaningless platitude altogether, a statement composed purely for show. Whatever it'd been, anything was better than being on the losing team. "Thank you." Were the only words the Slytherin deemed appropriate.

The aftermath of it all was of no concern to Maeve, the only goal being to rid herself of the grime and muck that had been plastered rather grotesquely to her robes. If not for the spell cast by the other prefect, Maeve would have excused herself from the situation altogether; something of little need now. Instead, she offered a final nod to both Avery and Opelia before sitting back down, her interest in whatever happened next non-existent.
I as the author am leaving this thread, it's been fun!
