2023, Stage 2 Ravenclaw vs Hufflepuff: Match 8

After this rather shocking start to the duel, getting rid of the cloud above their heads quickly jumped the queue to number one on her priority list. "Oh, yeah, I'm absolutely ex-static," Dee replied to Eun-ji's question. Her lips still felt a little numb, but there was always time for a good pun.

Thankfully, her ability to split spells meant she didn't have to limit herself to blowing the cloud over to growl at the Hufflepuffs. With a flex of her will, the spell split, rushing towards the cloud and Lindsey. Her aim was pretty spot-on as well, if she did say so herself, but somehow, at the very last second, the Hufflepuff stepped out of the way, Dee's spell puffing into nothing. A sliver of annoyance flashed across her face, and she adjusted the grip on her wand. Apparently she'd need to increase her target training even more.

At least Eun-ji had more luck, while the Hufflepuffs seemed to have taken the time to regroup... after just their first round. Well. Perhaps this would be easier than she'd thought. "Nice job," she said appreciatively, flashing Eun-ji a grin. "Keep it up and this will be a peace of cake. Or I'll get you a piece of cake, after we've won."

Without much hesitation Lindsey leaned towards Dorion and helped them take the blindfold off. It might be the Hufflepuffs nature to help their teammates, and Lindsey whistled merrily when the black fabric was untied. She took a step back to drop the piece of fabric to the floor, when a gust of wind stormed through her and Dorion, as well as the lightnings striking down on top of their heads instead of the Ravenclaws - Dealla definitely wished to take advantage of her brief absence from the duel and to show off her spell splitting skill again. Ha. But Lindsey Springhall was slippery now. Yet she was too positive and was too busy observing the soon-changed surroundings, and Lindsey wasn’t fortunate enough to evade Eun-ji’s Tickling Charm this time. Lindsey grumbled with frustration when the painful tickling went across all her body. Focus. Just focus. She told herself in her heart. Everything would be okay.

The next round seemed to go pretty well for the Ravenclaw team. Lindsay managed to help Dorion get off the blindfold but that was about it for the opposing team. Eun-ji was quite happy to see the clouds move to their side as well. No lightning managed to strike this time but the feeling of ever present doom was gone, which made her happy enough. Eun-ji's own spell was once again pointed at Lindsay and she was relieved to see it hit its target. Not that she enjoyed hurting the other girl but it was one more step towards victory. She already lost one duel and didn’t want to continue that streak.

“Thanks.” Eun-ji smiled in Dee’s direction. She was always pleased to hear she did well from the former captain. “You can keep the cake though. I don’t like sweets.” Why was everybody always offering sweets to her? Then again, most people her age probably did enjoy them. I guess I’m the weird one.

It happened at least once a duel. Dori would simply space out and forget to cast, this time their omnipotent writer spending 48 hours in and out of sleep due to a cold. Luckily, Lindsey ended up removing the nearly see-through blindfold, finally restoring their vision. But in the meantime- she got hit hard. The non-metaphorical crackling storm above their heads an odd omen for their duel. But it was still just the beginning, and Dori refused to back down.

Throughout the years, Meenauh got so unnerved by duels and uneventfulness of some didn't even get her bored any more. She had to watch, to be patient, to be vigilant — that was a job, no less. Dorion did some healing to Lindsey, restoring her confidence and ready to dodge the incoming spells. Because there were spells to dodge.

She had to watch Dealla, and she had to watch her fail. Not the spells, no, the aiming. It was a pleasure to see the girl wasn't perfection like it seemed most of the time. Her water spell missed Lindsey a lot and splashed somewhere past the stage, hopefully hitting a few yawning spectators in the face. It seemed like not her aim was off, though, but just Lindsey being too quick.

Eun-ji taking action while Lindsey was busy dodging the water — the wind flew all the way and hit Lindsey right in the chest. She tried to respond with the same spell, but failed to set up proper aiming in order to do so. No hits on the Ravenclaw side.

Spectator Thread, Day 1

If there was anything that Dori was dedicated to in a duel it was to keep their partner up and moving. It was hard, they weren't terribly good at it, but they tried. It was part of the reason why they worked so hard at their healing internship. As Lindsey seemed to be the target of the Ravenclaw's ire, Dori saw fit to take a second and heal her. Maybe not giving her much back but at least preventing more damage happening.

Eun-ji declined the piece of cake she'd been offered, and Dee dedicated a full moment just to gape at her with ostentation, until she was reasonably certain she'd suitably demonstrated how appalled she was at the idea that someone did not like sweet things. "Eun-ji," she said slowly, "I'm not sure we can be friends anymore."

She might have dedicated more attention to this particular discussion, but they were still in the middle of a duel, a fact that Dee remembered just in time. Their strategy had started off decently, but she should focus on keeping the stone rolling, not debate her partner's taste (or lack thereof) in snacks.

The next spell - as usual - went off without a hitch. It had been a while since she'd failed a spell, her last spectacular backfire now almost two years ago. Instead, lately, her problems seemed to be with her aim instead, and once again, Lindsey dodged her attack easily. It was frustrating; it wasn't like she hadn't been dedicating time and effort to target practice, both stationary and mobile. It was only made worse by the fact that Meenauh was their referee, no doubt watching as Dee failed to properly land a single spell so far. There were few people Dee would feel embarrassed in front of, usually the frustration was directed at herself, but this particular Gryffindor's opinion seemed to matter to her more than most. Her cheeks slightly pink, Dee rolled her wrist and corrected her stance. Her next spell would land, if she had anything to say about it.

“I'm not sure we can be friends anymore.” Ah…typical. This was precisely the reaction she expected. Eun-ji shrugged. “Your loss…I’m an excellent cook.” She teased the girl next to her. That much was true and she could even make some sweet things like cookies, brownies, cupcakes and even a cake Dee apparently loved so much. She just didn’t make them for her own benefit. “But I don’t cook or bake for strangers.” The exchange has been short and it didn’t take long for both Ravenclaws to refocus on the duel. Jokes were fine but they knew that’s not why they were here. They were here to win.

Funnily enough the Hufflepuff team was fighting in a style more similar to Eun-ji’s. She also preferred to be the support rather than continuously attack. Still, that was just a preference and none of that mattered when it came to strategy. In the end, one always had to adjust based on the situation at hand. This is why she went for a more aggressive approach thus far. It seemed to work in their favour. Well…in Eun-ji’s at least. Her target didn't escape this round either however Dee seemed to be struggling a little bit today. It was probably one of those duels where nothing seemed to go quite right for you. It wasn’t uncommon occurrence so Eun-ji wasn’t really mad. Not to mention, there was still plenty of time to turn the situation around. Dee was a great duellist. She'd be fine.

Thankfully Dori offered her a powerful Healing Spell, and Lindsey felt much better even if the tickling feel still went on. She steadied her wrist and shot a solid Ventus at Eun-ji again - no, she wasn’t going to end up as missing every single spell on Eun-ji - which she put much effort in. But Lindsey soon found that she was too occupied to complete the task, trying to step aside to dodge Dealla’s spell while evading Eun-ji’s at the same time as well. Apparently she was no dodging-machine and ended up being caught up right in the middle of a gust of wind, and her own spell missed, yet again. Lindsey bit her lower lips, swirled her wand on her fingers with impatience and just took another step back.

The heat of the battle was close to the middle of it, if guessing by time.

Dorion cast a very nice split spell (the technique that more and more people started to wield as Meenauh noticed) to conjure the blindfolds on the Ravenclaw team — Dealla would hate that, if it had hit. But both spells missed, unfortunately. Lindsey tried a solid Flipendo, but a strong gust of wind from Eun-ji messed with her aim, so that spell also went past the intended target.

The true beast of the battle was... no, not the only remaining player (that I didn't describe yet), but the thick lightning cloud above the Hufflepuff side. Meenauh had seen its fury before, when it hit the whole team of three (!!!) players. And this time two simultaneous bolts rushed down to hit both Hufflepuffs. Right before Dealla repeated her water charm that reached Lindsey just after the lightning strike. Would've been truly painful if she had got wet a few seconds earlier. And from what Meenauh could hear and see, the Tickling Charm was still going. Lindsey was truly a mess to look at. Meenauh genuinely couldn't believe how the girl was still standing after the avalanche of everything.
