2023, Stage 2 Ravenclaw vs Hufflepuff: Match 8

Another day, another duel. Lindsey winced when the duelling schedule came out, wondering what she had done made her to be paired against Ravenclaws again - it’s common knowledge that she didn’t like facing off the birds, considering that every time she lost when duelling against them, no matter elder duellists or younger ones. But maybe, maybe she could end this today together with Dorion, and mark the Ravenclaws as her favourite opponents?

And so there she was, hair pulled up into a ponytail, standing on the duelling stage with Dorion Anderson. Though in the same year, she didn’t know Dorion that well, but the former Duelling Captain was definitely admired by her. With them by her side, she felt that the scales of victory was tipping slowly in their favour. “Let’s do this!” She smiled at them, eyes bright.

Yeah. Just let the game begin.

Dee's heart skipped in her chest as her name was called, despite the fact that she'd known it was coming. She should perhaps be used to it by now. In some ways, she was. Still, in others, every time felt like it was the first time, the thrill under her skin, fingers itching to cast.

She was bouncing on her feet, wand drawn, hair tied back. In many ways, this was familiar. She'd been paired with Eun-ji before. Last year, then, too, against Hufflepuff. They'd won. She'd also duelled Dorion before, although both of them with different partners. She'd won that one, too. There didn't seem to be any reason why today should be any different. Eun-ji received a smile and was proffered a fist to bump. "Time to burn some badgers, hm?" she offered cheerfully.

Meenauh's comment and wink was returned with a lighthearted grin and a mock-salute. Killing each other would take the fun out of things, wouldn't it?

Eun-ji was coming to this duel a little bit self-conscious but also very determined. She had lost the last duel, unable to keep her first-year teammate to see the end of the match so she felt like she had to prove herself once again. Realistically speaking, it was a very difficult match and she finished it without a single scratch but that didn’t ease her disappointment in any way. She definitely wanted to win this one.

Thankfully the odds of winning seemed better for this one. All four duellists were fourth years and Eun-ji was paired up with Dee. Someone she greatly admired and was already teamed up with before. It was actually Eun-ji’s first duel and they won. It made her feel strangely secure, having Dee as a partner again. The girls were quite different both in character and their duelling style yet they seemed to be complementing each other well. “Sure, just don’t overdo it.” The raven-haired witch retorted with slight amusement in her voice as she accepted the fist bump. Truth be told, burning spells were not really her thing...neither were fist bumps but Dealla had a way with people. It made others want to follow her and Eun-ji was no different.

Dori's confidence was bolstered from their first win in two years the last stage, but they weren't going to let that confidence run away from them. They knew Dee, knew how powerful she was as a duellist and just as a person in general. She was someone that they admired. Eun-ji Dori knew from brief interactions with Flash, and she was nice enough. There was a pang that missed Flash just looking at the Ravenclaw girl.

Dori's head was- bald but their writer wanted to be included in mentioning hairstyles. That was all. They passed a smile back to Lindsey, a formidable girl in their duelling team. "We're having Eagle for dinner." They paused, crinkling their nose at the comment they made. "Sorry- I'm trying to get into like, the type of talk other teams do. But that- ugh, let's- we got this!" Dori shook their head feeling silly. They weren't good at smack talk, but at least they were a good spellcaster.

The first seconds were eventful, just like Meenauh loved it about the Senior League.

Dealla wielded her splitting magic to conjure blindfolds on her both opponents, but it seemed the task came as quite a challenge — the blindfolds were thin, and the aim was off. One missed Lindsey, but another hit Dorion. Even from the crowd it was clear that the fabric was half-transparent, which was annoying, but possible to fight with. Eun-ji took the moment, and while Lindsey was dodging the blindfold, she sent a perfectly aimed, precised with monstrosity Flipendo her way. Ouch.

The blow came right on time, because Lindsey successfully produce a nice gust of wind and failed to send it at her opponent properly. The gift of win remained undelivered. Her partner, Dorion, seemed to think of other ways of how to deal damage and conjured a frightening cloud right above the Ravenclaw side. The lightnings started to strike all over the place and one hit Dealla right away, without introduction or alert. KHDYSHCH! was the sound of Dealla's body accepting the weather's bad mood. Meenauh flinched and was ready to bet her friend wasn't ready for that in her first seconds of the duel.

Spectator Thread, Day 1

Dee's smile only widened, pleased, when Eun-ji cautioned her to be careful. "Me?" she claimed, blinking innocently. "I'd never." A lie, as anyone who knew her would attest to. She waved at Dori across the stage, then breathed out, trying to focus her energy. Rolled her shoulders, raised her wand.

On Meenauh's signal, Dee was ready to cast, conjuring a blindfold for each Hufflepuff. It didn't go quite as planned; her aim was off on Lindsey, and she barely managed to tie the cloth around Dori's head, but half a success was better than none. Eun-ji fared better, her spell hit, and she managed to escape the wind that Lindsey had sent in return.

Dee only realised that this left Dori's spell unaccounted for when it was already too late. Fast as her reflexes were, by the time the lightning flashed above her, there was no time to react. Despite liberal use of the spell in previous duels, she'd managed to avoid being struck so far, and she would've preferred it stayed that way. It felt like someone had hit her in the head with a hammer before the impact raced down her spine, ears ringing, her skin tingling oddly. She stumbled, tasting copper in her mouth, and blinked, trying to focus her vision. "Well, that's..." she started, then swallowed before trying again. "An electrifying start."

The match was about to start. For the last time Eun-ji inspected her surroundings. Her gaze accidentally landed on a certain Slytherin, getting ready for his own duel. Hana seemed to notice her too and immediately winked at her. Thankfully, the witch was already pretty much used to it at this point so she simply raised her eyebrows at his gesture. She wasn’t going to entertain him now. She was already feeling sorry for his opponents. Turning away, she noticed Kim, making his way towards the bleachers. He just finished his own duel so Eun-ji wasn’t sure whether he would come to watch hers but here he was. Eun-ji smiled a little bit, returning the fighting gesture to accept his encouragement. Her movement was much more subtle than his but it was enough to get the message across.

At last, the spells started flying. Dee did her best to hinder both their opponents but was only half-successful. Still, it was definitely better than nothing and should be helpful in the next round. Now it was Eun-ji’s turn to do some damage. She pointed her wand at Lindsey. “Flipendo.” Her spell hit the target and even caused the Hufflepuff to lose the opportunity to hit her back with. Good…but wait... She didn’t hear Dorion cast yet. Just as the witch looked at the duellist in question a pair of clouds formed over the Ravenclaw side. Oh no… Eun-ji never had to deal with this particular spell before and it was definitely unnerving. Even more so after witnessing Dealla being struck by lightning. “You okay?” She couldn’t help but ask her partner. Well she probably was, seeing as she still had the energy to joke.

Wands out, and in a second spells were flying around the stage. Lindsey managed to dodge Dealla’s Blindfolding Spell, but still wasn’t evasive enough to evade Eun-ji’s Flipendo. She bit her lips with a slight frustration when the Knockback Jinx hit her right in the chest, causing her beautiful Wind Jinx missed Eun-ji in return. On the other hand Dorion wasn’t lucky enough to evade Dealla’s splitting Obscuro, but as Lindsey knew they were determined enough to cast a nice picked spell. Lindsey watched the frightening dark clouds formed right on top of the Ravenclaws and the lightnings started to strike down.

It all happened in less a second, but Dealla was struck by a lightening. Seeing this, Lindsey tilted her head with pride of her partner. “Hey, that’s just impressive!” She’d turn and smirk at Dorion. This was the very first time she’d see the Weather Modifying Charm working in such a speed after being conjured. Maybe Tyche was just in their favour today?

Lightning vs Hufflepuff

The cloud really seemed to annoy Dealla. Can't argue, being hit with lightning right after the cloud was cast wasn't pleasant at all. And from what she knew about the girl, she wouldn't let it go easily. Be it because of tactics or annoyance. She was a flame. So a strong Ventus sent the cloud to the other side right above the both Hufflepuffs, who barely avoided the lightnings that struck from it as soon as the cloud rested above their heads. The masterful part of it was that while everyone's attention was on the cloud, Dealla managed to split the gust of the wind and send it straight towards Lindsey. The girl was busy removing the blindfold, so she could've been an easy target — probably what Dealla was heading for. But be it her strong reflexes or luck, the girl removed the blindfold and made a graceful step back, right in time for the gust of win to pass between her and Dorion.

Eun-ji took the moment of confusion and transformed it into raw power. Tickling was sent into Lindsey, who must've burned all her luck on the previous spell. So a direct hit sent painful tickling across all her body.

And Dorion's actions were unknown. Meenauh couldn't guess whether she missed them or something unpredictable happened that would blossom later in the course of the duel.
