Julian was a duelling captain! Julian was a duelling captain? Julian was a duelling captain. Somehow, no amount of tossing the idea around in his mind could quite convince him of the reality that he'd been picked for such an important position. It made nerves and giddiness mix together in the pit of his stomach as he stepped into the duelling club and took in the assembled crowd of students. He took a deep breath, stepping on to the piste and reading out names from a scrawl of parchment. "Regina, Monica, Asher and Guinivere? It's time for your duel.". His voice wavered a little but he tried his best to ignore it.
Once the four duellists were assembled, he gave them a sharp, businesslike nod. "Please, everyone take your spots. We'll be getting started here unless you have any questions." He didn't give them much of a chance to ask any, barrelling onward with his planned speech, propelled by sheer nervous energy.
"Please be careful, and remember that if you get set on fire, you should stop, drop and roll." Julian didn't know whether he'd be a good captain, but he could make sure to emphasise safety in the rules he oversaw. He gestured with his hand. "Begin!"

- Coming from the Slytherin Locker rooms, Monica took to the Piste with great calmness. Now she had won her first official duel she was apart of, one could say her ego was a little big for this up and coming duel. Looking over at her partner, Monica stood in great anticipation, wondering how the pair would fair together. Duelling with Starlee, it seemed that Monica and her found some level of synergy, and that is what greatly won them the duel. Would Guinevere have the same compatibility with Monica?
Smiling at the Slytherin next to her, Monica gripped her wand, "Let's take these Lions down a notch... ready?" If her partner was into it, Monica would raise her hand for a high-five, but only if it seemed reciprocated, she didn't want to pull Guinevere out of her zone if she was getting ready for things to start.
Soon Julian called the two pairs to their places. Monica took her stance, looking across the piste as she sized up who she was up against. Regina Miller, third year, and Asher Blackjack, first year. Monica could feel every pounding of her heart. It seemed the room fell silent. She closed her eyes, took in a deep breath.... and...

┏ With three consecutive victories behind her since the first moment she joined the Gryffindor Duelling Team, Regina's self-confidence had reached an all-time peak. If one paid close enough attention, they could feel it radiating through her demeanor (if they didn't shiver from the clear ominous presence around her first) as she stepped onto the stage alongside her new partner. Head held high, sneering at the opponent team with clear disdain...Yes, it was nothing out of the norm for somebody as prideful as Regina.
Though she wasn't pleased to know her teammate was a fresh meat - a fact she'd learned after meeting Asher Blackjack in the lockers prior to the match - the Gryffindor rebel assured herself that at least the boy looked like he had potential. She trusted that he wouldn't have joined the Duelling Team if he hadn't felt like he was capable enough to win.
"Do not slow me down, and we will coordinate just fine," Regina barely acknowledged him before falling into her duel stance, the familiarity gleefully welcomed.
It was time to hunt.┗ ┛

This is it. This is the moment he had been dreaming of ever since he joined the dueling team, it was honestly surreal. Asher was of course slightly nervous, well maybe not slightly but he liked to think he was doing a good enough job at hiding it. Unlike his 1v1 duel before against André Lebedev, this team he wasn't alone, he had the help of his partner Regina Miller, who has significantly more experience the him whe it comes to dueling, though he wasn't sure if having a partner watch his back was supposed to make him relived or nervous of not being able to keep up.
He stepped into the platform with his partner and somewhat succeeded in calming himself, at least he didn't appear visibly nervous. Asher glanced at Regina, who seemed quite confident in her dueling capabilities, though she didn't seem to enjoy having a first year as her partner too much, Asher hoped he would be able to rectify that. "Yeah, got it", Asher didn't like the idea that she thought he would slow her down, but he had to deal with it since her words held a certain truth.
Asher took his dueling stance and prepared. He could do this.

So it was already Stage 3 of the season. The memory of Stage 2’s disastrous events had her palms sweating and gripping her wand so hard she thought it would crack. Guinevere released her grip, preferring for that not to happen.
She had been unable to lift her head for days after her first duel, and had avoided any people who she had seen at the duel. Soon after, she got over it, and instead focused her attention on how she could do better this time.
Guinevere gave her partner Monica a brief nod and smile. "We can win this," she said with all the confidence she could muster.

If it hadn't been unprofessional, Julian might've watched the start of the proceedings through the gaps between his fingers. As spells started flying, the urge to flinch and cover his eyes was strong. He should've known it would be an intense duel from the steely demeanour bore by both teams making him wish they'd make an effort to keep things friendlier. Nothing prepared him for Slytherin's poor luck.
Both Gryffindors hit their targets; Guinivere took the impact of Asher's Knockback Jinx right in the chest, while Regina's Incendio Duo (an impressive cast that had Julian squinting at its brightness) set Monica's sleeve on fire. Meanwhile, Regina deftly avoided Monica's Knockback Jinx, the spell zooming harmlessly an inch or so from her left shoulder and Guinievere... well, something went very wrong with her wand. Perhaps getting hit had proved distracting, but it seemed to backfire and set her own robes smoking.
"Are you alright?" Julian asked the girl, eyebrows knit with concern.

- Taking a stance Monica smirked as the round began... perhaps it was the winning of the last match getting to her head, but she faced the oncoming spells without so much of a flinch... then the burning started to set in. Monica could feel the heat as it grew up her arm, and before she realized it, she was set aflame. Not the ideal way to start a match. Lifting her wand, Monica was ready to hit back! But the Gryffendore was ready, and dodge out of the way of her spell! "Drats!" Monica called out... now feeling the burn worse then before.
Only saving point would be for her teammate to....
Out of the corner of her eye, Monica saw Guinivere fly back from Asher's spell.... "You alright?" Monica called back to her teammate.
Seemed that the Slytherin's were off to a horrible start. Guinivere tried casting her own spell once she got over the impact she took, but something seemed to go array and she caught herself on fire... Hopefully their luck would turn around soon.| Action |

┏ The second Julian Pritchard signaled the match's commence, the familiar incantation of the Fire-Making Spell fell from her lips immediately. Regina watched, with malicious glee, the blazing fire escaping the tip of her aspen wand and flew towards @Monica Evans like a raging dragon. The spell was flawlessly cast, hitting its target dead on, and Regina instantly felt so powerful - as she always did whenever she set some unfortunate victim on fire. There was a reason Incendio Duo was her favourite spell, after all.
She wanted to see the world burn. Like she had burnt once.
A ghost of a smile appeared on her face even though she remained expressionless as Evans raised her wand in retaliation. One step, two steps, then a graceful pirouette to dodge the Knockback Jinx, the spell flying over her shoulder. So, those ballet lessons hadn't been terribly useless.
"Are the Slytherins feeling up to par today?" Regina mocked as @Guinevere Russetwood's failed spectacularly to attack her. She'd like to see them try even grazing her skin. "Or do you have a fetish for humiliation?"
This was the part of every duel the Gryffindor rebel enjoyed, where she could taunt her opponents and destabilise them further. Words could also be a weapon, and she loved to run her tongue. She shot a glance at her partner, giving him a silent nod of approval at his successful spellwork. It would seem that Blackjack did have potential, in the end.┗ ┛

Asher made sure to not slip up, he focused all of his determination and brain power into succeeding at his spell, he had to make a a good first impression and prove himself, he wanted to-No. He had to prove he has what it takes to be a good Duelist.
Asher's Flipendo hit its intended target and immediately send Guinevere flying, had it not been a duel, he would have probably felt bad about it. Asher also noticed that Regina had also hit Monica with her spell, and ended up lighting her on fire, he listened to Regina taunting the Slytherin team and made a mental note to never get on her bad side.
However despite that Asher couldn't help the ghost of a smile that appeared on his face when he saw Regina's nod of approval, he now even more determined to see this duel to its end. An end where they will come out on top.
