Was it lucky or skill? A mix of both? At least was what Ying expected too. She knew there was still to much to learn, to much to master and perhaps she was making the easiest choice by that time. Flipendo happens to be a very good spell for dueling and no doubt she had been in a specially happy day when seems her aim and evasion skills were working well and coordinated. But she knew that if she wanted to improve her Technic she would have to try other strategies too. Besides, by now, Rai would be already expecting her to cast the Knockback jinx and she probably would be expecting it on her next move.

Ying felt a mix of pride and concern. She was gaining her terrain, after a bad start against her friend, and both of them agreed to duel each other. But Raizel was one of her best friends, and she couldn't ignore the fact that she was indeed hurting her and this last hit had been even stronger then the last one resulting on Rai to need more time to gather herself. Maybe it has been naive from her tho...she was certain that in a real duel, a duel against one real opponent, she wouldn't had wait, she wouldn't have given the other time enough to be able to stand and be prepared. At least not as many time as she was giving to the other Gryffindor girl.

Ying bit her lower lip, containing her apologies' words that were threatening to escape her lips. She knew this wasn't the time for it, they had both signed-up for this and that could be felt as disrespectful, the other girls could think she wasn't giving enough credit to her friend, or showing to much weakness that could be interpreted as a lack of skill for a duelist... and the last thing she wanted to transpired was that she wasn't ready to face the consequences of her action.

She absorbed Meenauh's words as if they had been sewn into her mind, lingering there as if she were going to depend on them for her survival. Deep down, that wasn't entirely untrue, since being a duelist meant she would be in less than pleasant situations. Ying nodded back to her team's captain when the last mentioned for them to continue. Aiming her wand again to Raizel, she hoped to continue to control her spells as she had been capable so far.

Meenauh frowned. It seemed the girls were synchronised in their spell choice. Maybe they were really close friends, or they practised the same strategy, or they just wanted to prank Meenauh. In the end, Meenauh remembered that the spell arsenal of the first-years might have been not that wide, so yeah. Boom, boom, burn. That's it. Yes, sometimes there were nasty spells that Galton hated. Sometimes there was too much fire (thank god the water spells were included in the official spell list). And finally there were body-binds, which gave everyone some time to breathe and get some tiny restoration.

Ying conjured a decent flame, which landed nicely on the poor Raizel, but failed to set the girl aflame. Raizel returned the favour with a slightly more decent flame, marking the first offensive successful. But no clothes were set aflame as well.

This time Meenauh simply nodded without making any detailed commentary. The pace the girls were casting their spells were much slower than in the real duel, which was expected. So, Meenauh walked by the perimeter, waiting until their next spell. When nothing was happening, and she had no smart comment, she simply produced a short "Continue" to notify the girls they shouldn't stop and wait, but try to fight as if it was a real duel.

Things weren't going her way in this duel. Either that's because of luck or just her lack of skills. She never stopped practicing though. Whenever she had free time, she would practice either in the dueling club or even just by the lake. Not once did Raizel miss any personal training session so why? Looking down on her wand, she recalled something about dragon heartstring cores. While the spells she could fire were a lot stronger than what she normally expects, it's that very power that makes it harder to control for her. Perhaps she lacks the experience to handle her wand's power and that's throwing her aim off. Her grip tightened on it, shaking her head. She'll figure out what's wrong after this duel is over.

"Incendio!" Raizel casted, shooting out a jet of flame from her wand and at the same time as Ying. Her opponent had fired her own Fire-making spell and that surprised her. For some reason, they keep shooting the same spells at each other and no, they didn't plan on this, they are just coincidences. Each spell they fired was the same as the other. Sadly, her last two flipendo didn't even hit their target. This time was different as her spell found its mark just as Ying's spell hit her. Raizel could feel the heat from it and that wasn't exactly the first time she had been hit by a Fire-making spell. Luckily, that didn't set her clothes on fire.

At that time, she noticed that her spell seemed to be a lot more decent than what she had taken from her opponent. Control and aim is truly the problem here. She should try harder in her practices, she can't let herself stay like this forever after all. No pauses this time. She took her stance and was ready for her next move, hoping this one would work.

Action sent

"Incendio!!" Ying yelled with confidence while making the right wand movemnet. The red flames spreading form the tip of her wand had a decent form and she actually managed to hit her target, but they hadn't been strong enough to set Raizel on fire! Sadly...it would had been fun if they did! Although her sentiment was quite the opposite in what regarded her friend's twin spell that went towards her at the same time. It was lucky on both perhaps, that they only had to feel a brief kiss from the flames, enough to feel their warm caress but not enough to actually harm each other.

Ying followed Meenauh with her eyes watching the older student and her mentor, walked around them and mentioned for them to continue. Maybe they were getting better? Maybe actually practicing is all the secret one needs to be the better duellist! Ying felt a boost of confidence by having her last spells actually working and accomplishing their purpose! She knew that Raizel was expecting the best of her, as she was expecting the best from her friend! Ying hoped she was actually fulfilling her friend's expectations and that they both were ending up to be pretty decent duelists.

With a grin spreading across her lips, Ying once again took her position and got ready to cast a new spell.

The girls seemed to have got their hold on to their wands and matured within the time span of the single duel. Raizel needed to even the chances, so she needed to start laying hits consistently. The best way to do that was to hit a target that is mostly stationary. Her Arresto Momentum left her wand and wrapped around Ying. Naturally, Ying would start to slow down her movement, affected by outer forces outside her control.

As for her own spell, Ying decided to repeat something from her arsenal — the Dancing-Feet one. The aiming was off this time, but at the last moment the spell still hit Raizel, brushing dust off her shoulder. The spell wasn't taking whole effect, but was definitely annoying. She'd be forced into a clumsy Irish dance, but one leg would periodically be breaking out of the spell, which would remove the potential grace of the dance and would be more resembling a drunk one-legged pirate trying to entertain the audience. And yet, they still needed to fight each other with spells.

Meenauh smiled widely as she'd watch Raizel chaotically break into the clumsy dancing, but the spell casting was getting better, so she'd nod to each of the girls once their eyes would meet. Nicely offering to continue what they were doing.

Wow, just wow.

At the last moment, despite her attempt to avoid the incoming spell from her opponent after releasing that Arresto Momentum, it still managed to graze the girl on her shoulder. Rather than this crazy half dance getting to her, she finds getting grazed by it more annoying. "That's unfortunate." Raizel managed to say as her legs started moving on their own and at some part of the dance, suddenly stopping due to the effect of the spell not fully settling in and then continuing once again. She gotta admit, this spell makes her a better dancer than when she's not under it. Then again, this isn't exactly the kind of dance she's expecting.

Well, at least her spell managed to hit her opponent although she gotta admit, she wasn't expecting for it to hit. That's some luck right there. Yes, she'll call that luck and not to mention, that spell was an advance spell. For all she knows, with how inexperience she is for only being a first year, it could've backfired. She shudders at that thought. Okay, time to get her head back in the game. This crazy dance sure is tiring her out on top of the hits she took but she's still standing. That means it's not over yet. Hopefully, her luck continues. Her opponent is slowed down, giving her more chance for her spells to actually find their mark. With that said, she waited for the right timing to do her spellcasting.

That suddenly went right to her chest! A sensation that the young girl never felt in her life. It was like an exterior force that starts to spread from the point it hit her towards and until taking control of her entire body. Taking over all her muscles, all her actions. Holding her in place, not letting her motioning naturally. It was like watching a sci-fi in first person. Ying remembered matrix, that moment when everything drown in a slow motion scene. Expect that...she was the bullets and everyone around her was Neo. And that...well...was super annoying! To not mention embarrassing! How in Merlin's beard would she be able to fight back in this duel now?

She made a colossal effort tho, to try and take control of her movements...but all was in vane. Raizel's spell had been super powerful and irritatingly well cast! That's why her friend is a prodigy then...it makes sense now! Ying bet professor Zoë should be proud of her young pupil, seeing the way Rai managed to use that spell in a duel. The only thing that served as some comfort to Ying, was to realize that her spell hadn't also missed its target. Even if just for inches...was still enough to make the other young Gryffindor start dancing in a weirdest way! Ying couldn't avoid to laugh from the whole situation, her's and her friend's. But her laugh in slow motion made it look like a psycho lunatic..just imagine the expression she must be sharing with the room made her wanting to laugh even more! But well...this was a duel right? Not much time to waist? And the time was really passing slowly through her! So Ying gave her best to gain her composure again and be ready for another round!

Sometimes the mastery of duelling was not in the spells that were perfectly cast and landed (that was for spectacle). It was about casting and then dodging. So sometimes the uneventfulness of the duel was the sign of experience. And it seemed the girls started to pick up the pace.

Ying shot an almost perfect Flipendo, but Raizel despite it being hard to dodge anything during the dance, managed to dance away from the trajectory of the spell to her own luck. Not only that, she managed to cast her own Flipendo, a bit weak, but still, and she aimed it nicely. But in the very last moment, Ying did something worth of applause — she turned slowly away from the spell and let it just go past her ear. It was not easy to move under the Slowing Charm, but she did beautifully.

Meenauh actually applauded to that, as she deserved it.

"Sometimes, dodging a spell might be a much better tactical result rather than landing a spell," she lectured, remembering the Blasting Curse and all the splinters, "Lean to dodge, even though sometimes you'll face spells, which are close to impossible to dodge without getting something flying into your face."

She instinctively rubbed her cheek, remembering the heat wave from Delilah's curse.

One two three. Deep breaths, get into rhythm.

While the dance is tiring out the already exhausted girl from all the hits that she took, she is still in this game and continuing to fight. The dancing-feet spell that took hold of her, she needs to find the exact moment that its effect weakens for a moment before striking back.

Just her luck though, a spell came flying towards her during the brief moment that the spell loosened its hold on her body, allowing her to dance away from the incoming flipendo. Another hit from that and who knows, she'll probably be down for the count but no, not yet.

"Flipendo!" She took advantage of that moment, casting her own knockback jinx but it seemed like her luck had run out at that time. Despite being under the effects of the slowing charm, Ying manages to dodge it at the last second. Raizel didn't know what to feel about that. She was disappointed of course. She did what she could to stop her opponent from moving too much by using that spell but she still managed to dodge it. At the same time, she is feeling quite astonished by that last second move, leaving her stunned as she stares at her friend. How was that even possible? "That was brilliant!" In the end, her disappointment was washed away by a certain feeling of excitement upon seeing Ying's move.

She shook her head then. Her friend is definitely doing a lot better than her, this duel isn't going her way but, she just have to keep going. There's still a chance maybe? Or perhaps she's being delusional by thinking that things will get better for her. "Let's keep at it, shall we?" She muttered to keep herself going in this duel.

Action: As Owled

Her muscles were starting to hurt by how much strength she was spending to fight against the spell. She knew it was an effortless try, the spell would not break by how much strength she would use against it, but her instincts were telling her to make it, it was an unconscious reaction.

Although one thing she was certain, she needed to find a way to keep playing cards in that duel and not stay still as an easy, lazy target. Raizel has been training, Ying was certain of it, that spell wasn't an easy one and for sure wasn't part of their first year's curriculum. Ying felt a mix of pride and unfairness. Pride because her friend was awesome with her spells what proved to her that she was indeed an amazing witch. Unfairness, because somehow she felt that Rai would have an advantage above her by had been born in the magical world. She probably had lived her entire life watching others casting spells and reading through magic books. While Ying, the first time she had ever saw a wand, was in the hands of her brother a year before, and the magical books she had read were about evil queens poisoning red apples! Not useful in that moment!

So there was just one possible option, try and attack first! Hopefully Rai would be distracted enough time so she could move away from an easy position to aim at. And luckily that worked! Her spell failed its target but she saw with slight tendril of fear that her friend's Flipendo passed right in front of her eyes almost hitting her. She felt the rush of air made by the spell pass right next to her and missing just for a few inches. Good call Ying! She thought excited and somehow pride of herself. And that was when she finally felt the external force against her body to vanish. The spell was finally broken and she was now able to move at ease. She stretched her sore limbs and put herself into position again, "Nice try Rai!" She said with a smirk a malicious glint appearing in her eyes.
