Knights Tourney Spring Ball 2023

Andy honestly had no clear idea of how he would perform in that little game he had signed up for. The brown-haired Second Year Thunderbird broom racer had successfully passed through the maze and arrived at the Royal Bouquet, and now he needed to participate in a little game called the Knights Tourney, where the participants would wear Armors and Halmets to dress up like Knights or attempted to hit their oppoment using those beautifully decorated school brooms. Well, at least it involved brooms, something Andy was just too familiar with as a broom racer. However, the brown-haired second year Thunderbird broom racer was not very sure how he would manage to hit his oppoment using those brooms. "Sounds a bit violent, isn`t it? Anyway, no matter how I participate in the game, I suppose it was going to be a fun game." Andy thought with some nervousness as he entered the area for the Knights Tourney game to take part in the little game. On the bright side though, the brown-haired Thunderbird knew his cousin Daphne was going to also participate in the game, and it was a way to meet up with his cousin even though they was not actually paired up against each other.Andy was glad that he still had the little photo of himself Daphne accidentally left as well as the photo Daphne sent him in his pocket of the suit, so hopefully he would recognize Daphne and give the photo his cousin accidentally left back to the young Hufflepuff part-Veela cousin.

As for the person Andy had been paired up with, it was someone he was unfamiliar with with a strange name at least for an American like Andy himself, Botan Miura. A name the brown-haired Second Year Thunderbird broom racer was not sure if he could pronounce correctly. Anyway, that was enough thinking at least for now. The brown-haired Thunderbird decided to take one of those beautifully decorated school brooms, called the Ivy Unicorn with a horn that reminded him of the baby unicorns in the petting zoo last time he was there in October last year during the fall ball, then took a set of armer and halmet to put on, then waited for his oppoment to arrive and for the game to start. "Regardless of how I perform in the game, it is at least going to be a great time, I hope so. Now I just cannot wait for the game to start." Andy thought as the brown-haired Thunderbird broom racer impatiently waited for the game to start and for his oppoment and his cousin Daphne to arrive.

Roksana had recently signed up for something called the Knight's Tour whatsit. She didn't know; the word "tourney" was not familiar to her, in literally any language. Which were only three. But whatever; she knew what "knight" meant, and what "competition" meant. And even though she wasn't stupid and would hurt anyone who told her so, she didn't know about the phrases. I mean, what the heck did "joust" and "lance" mean?

So, ultimately, she was getting ready to try and win, mostly by knocking people over with her lance, even though she figured that wasn't the point. The point was to try to have fun. Roksana could certainly do that. She just liked the idea of knocking people off their brooms with long pointy things that looked like swords. She could be many things, but the one thing she wasn't was a buzzkill. Ugh.

So, Roksana looked at one of the prop knights holding up a sign. She was certainly a "Knight of the Court", at least she was a knight, so Roksana headed down that path. The first thing she saw was rows of armor. Okay! This wasn't so bad. She got a set of shiny bronze armor and fitted it over her dress. Then she was asked to choose her "steed". What did that mean again?

She looked over to a set of brooms. They were all very frivolous and impractical, but one of them, the "Ivy Unicorn", looked very nice. She had partnered with someone named, "Fang Hui-Ying". Obviously, the name wasn't familiar to Roksana. So, what now? Well, all she had to do was wait. So, she got to work braiding the ivy mane of the unicorn.

Until she thought she saw someone familiar nearby. Huh? Oh, wait, was that- ? Oh, never mind. She was seeing things now. But she could've sworn that she saw that Andy boy from the maze. Of course not, no. All this unseen adrenaline was getting to her head. Maybe...? But she felt quite calm, so what adrenaline? None, that's what. Roksana sighed and continued braiding the ivy, hoping that she wouldn't screw herself over.

Botan had no idea why in the world he had signed up for the game called the Knights Tourney.“なぜ私はこれをもう一度やったのですか?” Naze watashi wa kore o mōichido yatta nodesu ka? | Why did I do this again? He asked himself as he arrvied where it was taking place. There was a funky dirt patch with a fence marking out the area that the battle would take place. It was more of a game, but Botan was thinking of it as a life or death battle. He had to do well.

For the crowd, there was a raised wooden area so the crowd could get a good view on the match. Botan pictured himself down on the dirt, stading there proud. He knew that he was going to win. Well, he acknowlaged the one percent chance that he could loose, but shoved it to the back of his mind.

Before his match, he went over and inspected his options he could use for his broom. Well, they were calling it a steed to stay with the theme, but there was no way Botan would be calling it that. A little decoration did not change the fact that it was a broom, so it would be called that. When he looked at the options, he immediately he knew which one. He would be using the Woodland Steed broom. Why? Well the other ones looked weird and girly to him, so he would be using that one. He would have prefered for it to be just the vines without the color, but he was stuck with this one.

After selecting his steed, he waited until it was his turn. When it finally rolled around, he suited up. He was ready to face this Andy Menton boy. And shatter his armor. “わかった。あなたはこのぼたんを持っています。” Wakatta. Anata wa kono bo tan o motte imasu. | Okay. You’ve got this Botan. He muttered in his native Japanese, ready to win.

Akihiko was excited for a certain game called Knights Tourney. He had signed up in an instant, ready to show off his swordsmanship skills to a willing partner. Only problem was, he didn’t have and sword fighting skillls. He wasn’t even sure if he would be able to lift it!

Akihiko entered through the left passageway. He wasn’t the first to arrive, but he certainly wasn’t the last. He could see his cousin (@Charlie Jacobsen as Botan), another boy (@Rita Su as Andy) who he didn’t know and a familiar face. Roksana (@Aurora Griffith), who he had talked to when he first arrived on campus. He would make his rounds before the game and say hello to each.

First, the boy he didn’t know. "こんにちは!"¹ He greeted with a grin, knowingly saying his greeting in Japanese. "Hello!" He repeated in English. He held out his hand for the boy to shake. That seemed to be custom in America. He was big into different cultures and customs. "I’m Akihiko!" He said brightly.

After he finished his conversation with the boy, he would move to Roksana. "Roksana!" He greeted her, smiling just as brightly (and a little less distracted) as he had when he first met her. "またお会いできてうれしいです!"² He said in Japanese. He did this playfully to almost everyone, saying things in his native tongue that they couldn’t understand. Sometimes it wasn’t on purpose, but he could fix his mistakes. "It’s nice to see you!" He said in English, knowing that she would be confused by the foreign language.

Last person, arguably the worst person here. He put a smile on his face and went to say hello to his cousin. "いとこ！お会いしてうれしいです!" ³ He always spoke in Japanese when he was with his cousin. It was habit, and his cousin would be able to understand. "ホグワーツはお元気ですか?"⁴ He asked out of curiosity.

He had talked to everyone who had been there at the start, and new people had started arriving. He took the distraction and went to pick a broom and sword. It was little more than a quick scan that helped him pick out The Woodland Steed.

A quick scan at everyone, trying to get a glance so he could figure out his opponent. He wouldn’t be able to recognize them at first glance, unfortunately. He had never met them. He gave up his search, and waited for the Tourney to begin.

Shamsi could not help but be swept up in the moment, the splendor and excitement of the event was exactly what he had hoped it would be.

Dressed in the traditional Indian garb -- which could not by any means be described as proper "armor" in the sense of European knights, the Seeker took a moment to just absorb the scene around him.

It was just perfect.

Taking a moment to follow the directions, the Indian boy quickly took a moment to look at each type of steed he was given, before quickly picking one of the Ivy Unicorns -- they easily looked the nicest. or maybe he just liked the aesthetics of the plants covering the wood.

With the absolute confidence of someone who was assured a victory -- or at the least someone who was not afraid of making a spectacle of himself, Shamsi walked right to the center of the jousting area, before carrying out a perfect curtsey, like a proper lady might do. Now Shamsi was a lot of things, but he was most definitely not a lady. Nor proper.

But a little bit of a scandal went a long way. "We, the Knights of Spring who are about to enter battle salute you." . A harp turn, and an exaggerated walk over to the starting location, where Aryaan would mount his broom.

A small mutter, more to himself than anyone in particular. "Come on... Let's show them what we can do!"

Maybe it might not have been the same as Quidditch, but being chosen as one of the knights competing in the tourney from the sign-up list delighted and excited Ginyami. He may have been wearing a samurai's outfit, but wasn't a samurai a Japanese version of a medieval knight? So, upon coming across the two suits of armor, the fourth year followed the direction indicated by the knight holding the parchment that read, 'Knights of the Court this way!' and prepared to participate by heading to the designated tents.

As he was already wearing his own armor of sorts, Ginyami chose to ignore the many racks of armor set up for the knights' benefit and went to pick up a lance and shield. Again he was reminded of his role on the chessboard of the first Hexwizard trial and wondered if he would fare just as well on this battlefield. Perhaps he would fall just as he had on that one, too, but it was all in the name of good fun. Ginyami was just pleased to be able to join in even if he didn't get very far or win any sort of prize.

Once they were wearing the proper attire and armed with a lance and shield, the participating knights' names were called and they were placed into pairs in order to face each other. Of all the people he could have faced first, even from his own school, Ginyami was both surprised and amused to find himself paired off with none other than his Hexwizard Team's champion, Aryaan Shamsi. This would be intriguing indeed, especially with what a strategist Ginyami knew Aryaan was compared to others, but he wasn't intimidated.

In truth, he wasn't all that worried about the other Mahoutokoro boy as Aryaan wasn't a pureblood magic-wise nor was he purely Japanese like Ginyami was, but he wasn't about to say so. As their school's Hexwizard Champion, Aryaan was still important, after all, and Ginyami wanted to leave a good impression on him, so he had been playing nice with him whenever their paths had happened to cross so far.

On this battlefield, though, all bets were off. He could fight against his school mate as hard as he wanted to and not be seen as any worse for doing so. It was the perfect chance to do as he wished without worrying about the consequences and he relished the opportunity. He just had to make the most of it.

As they were urged to choose their 'steeds', Ginyami selected a completely black Woodland Steed which reminded him of the one he sat astride during the first Hexwizard task, serving him well. Why bother with pegasai or unicorns when a perfectly normal down-to-earth choice worked just fine? He rand his hand across its purely wooden head and admired the way it was decorated with merry bells, fancy ribbons, and colorful swaths of vibrant cloth. Yes, this one would do nicely.

Walking his ebony mount to the starting point, he took note of his opponent dressed in a traditional Indian outfit and grinned. Aryaan seemed as unafraid of failure as Ginyami was, curtesying like a lady in the middle of the jousting arena before everyone there. This would be a facinating tournament for sure.

"良い試合をしましょう、はい、シャム?" (Let's have a good match, yes, Shamsi-san?) he cheerfully called out to Aryaan as he took his place at the other end of the arena.

Mat wasn't entirely sure why he had signed up for something like this tournament. His hands clasped together as he looked around at the other candidates. He didn't recognize most of the students there, they all seemed to vary in age and didn't seem to come from the same school. Of course, he noticed Andy, the boy from Ilvermorny. Silently, Mat thanked that he wasn't going against him. He doesn't know if he would have the strength to beat someone who was actually really nice.
Taking a chance, he glanced around once more, looking at everyone else. He was looking for someone in particular- the boy he was supposed to be going against in the tourney. But Mat didn't know what he looked like, so it was a fruitless effort. Hopefully he wasn't going against someone a hundred times his size- that'd be an easy loss on his behalf.
Luckily, it seemed that Mat and his partner would get matched up as they chose their brooms. He didn't know how to initiate a conversation with the other boy, so he fell quiet. Maybe he should bid the other lad a good luck? Was that proper etiquette? Or should he egg the boy on, to create some form of competition. Mat huffed silently as he chose a broom- the Woodland Steed. It seemed like it would hold up well.
Now, all Mat knew he had to do was win. Or get it over with as quick as possible, but he would still try his best. Just the thought of that Hufflepuff girl taunting him over a loss was making his skin crawl. Ugh, it's time to focus, Mat!
