I was walking through the courtyard when something caught my attention, a little noise. It was only a small thing, most people probably wouldn’t even had paid much attention to it but it was all I could focus on now. It didn’t sound human yet not beastly either, more scared? Fragile.

Following the noise, I ended up near a largish tree. I spotted a nest up high in a branch and that got me a little more concerned. Was I hearing a bird? It didn’t sound like a good noise either, not that I know what a healthy or sick bird sounds like. Gently walking around, I searched the floor and even the bushes.

Where was it?

Even actually, it got louder! That’s when I spotted. It was a tiny bird! Aw, a baby! I kneeled down next the baby bird and bit my lip, what was I meant to do? I can’t reach the branch and I’m pretty sure that the Levitation charm wouldn’t work, plus, it seemed injured. “Are you hurt little guy?” I asked softly. I looked around to see if there were any other birds around, any that looked adults. “Where’s your family buddy?” I added.

I stood up and peeked around, was there anyone that could help me?

Alan was out for a stroll, though the weather truly wasn't kind on anyone right now. He could only imagine the trouble the students who were participating in Quidditch and Broom Racing training had to go through. It made Alan glad that he was no longer part of the team, because while he enjoyed taking walks even in weather that perhaps was not meant for being outside, he had hated the times when he was in the air during rain and storm. It made it all the more likely to lose one's grip on the broom handle and plummet to one's possible demise if another person was not around to react quickly; at least if one had been stupid enough to fly too high. Thinking back Alan was guilty of doing just that in rainy weather, one instance still present at the back of his mind that had lead to the start of a friendship with @Falentra Black. So perhaps it hadn't been that bad of an outcome, despite rolling his ankle badly upon hitting the ground. Alright, perhaps it had been that bad.

Well it seemed to be that at that moment in time the clouds took a little break from watering meadows and oceans alike, though the sky remained a sullen gray that dared only the most nature loving students to step out of the castle. As chance had it, Alan was one of those lucky students that desired to spend any free moment of his day outside of the confines that the walls of the castle often posed, though Tiger had been less enthusiastic and had thus stayed perched on a armchair in the common room with a nearby fireplace warming his pelt.

It was there and then that the sixth year heard the tiny chirps that the gentle breeze carried with it and as he took a look around the courtyard, found a student already kneeling what seemed next to a tree that grew here. The prefect frowned as he approached the boy with curiosity and wonder, trying to assess the situation at hand, only to find the student kneeling next to a tiny bird, before rising back to his feet and coming face to face with Alan. The boy from the house of lions immediately took a step back to give the other students their personal space, but his gaze was still directed toward the poor bird on the ground. "Oh no, what happened here?" he asked gently, though whether he addressed the boy or the bird was not entirely clear as he leaned down to gingerly scoop up the tiny bird that squawked pitifully. "Where is your mum little guy," he asked the chirping creature before turning to face the other kid, "have you been able to see what happened?" Past knowledge of stories he heard of baby birds falling out of their nest told him that the little thing's fate was doomed unless a kind soul intervened. So right now the bird's only hope were the both of them who had yet to figure out what even was wrong with the bird.

As I turned I let out a little noise as I came into contact with another student. They stepped back a little as I calmed from the shocking surprise. "Woah- hi," I greeted, swallowing a little. They seemed like an older year. Older than Colin! They asked what had happened. "Uh- I- I don’t know. I just saw it on the floor," I stammered, still astounded that an older year came over. Who was he? The older boy had started talking to the bird, asking where their mum was. “You know it won’t reply, right?” I asked with a frown. “I tried talking to it too,

He asked me if I knew what happened and I shrugged. “Not a clue. I arrived and heard it crying - do birds cry? - and came over and saw it on the floor,” I looked around for a birds next. “Maybe it was trying to fly? Got lost? Fell out the nest?” I wondered, kneeling down next to the small thing. “Do you think it’s hurt?” I asked, not wanting to touch it. “Should we bring it to Professor Blumenthal?” I questioned, looking at the older boy.

I hope this bird isn’t injured! If it did indeed fall from the nest then that’s a long drop! “So… what’s your name?” I asked awkwardly as we stood around this bird. “What year are you in?” I added. They definitely weren’t a Slytherin.

Alan gave a soft smile, "Hey," he responded to the (was it timid?) and when the other boy told him that the bird won't respond Alan grinned. "Of course it will respond, you just have to listen to it... well obviously not like a human would!" Alan gingerly picked up the tiny creature, very careful not to disturb or hurt it in any way. "I truly hope you will make it, little one," he whispered before cradling the little bird close and looking over at the dark haired boy.

"I think they chirp, but its hurt so it probably sounded like a cry for its mum, we should probably find Professor Blumenthal as you suggested," he whispered. Alan disliked the thought of any creature in need and felt that perhaps his new acquaintance was feeling quite similarly. "So, you think we should get this one to her? What if she is in class right now? You think we could interrupt it?" Alan's mind was already running at full speed, which perhaps was not quite as good but totally just how he was. He was already trying to judge what might be wrong with the bird, but only remembered the skeleton of a toucan from a Muggle book he had been gifted quite a while ago. But bird was bird to some extent right? And the way the wing extended from the tiny animal just struck him as wrong. Was there something that could be done? Would a normal healing spell work on this poor creature? Was there different magic for Muggle animals than there was for magical ones? He had only recently started to pick up some books about Magizoology but it was pretty dense and mostly about what the job entailed and that sort of stuff, so he had not much hands on experience in that department yet.

"Yeah... let's uhhh find her right?"
