Hi!
I have been looking through duels - I was wondering if someone could explain in depth on how they calculate hit or miss? Thank you!

Another question, if you have the Perfactionist ability, that means that all spells will work, correct? They might not hit the target, but they will work? Thank you!

In short, without abilities and such- mods throw a 20 sided dice (using a dice bot on discord) twice, once for the attacker, once for the target. Let's say the attacker has 10 accuracy, the target has 9 evasion.
In the end the calculation looks like this and the higher number wins.
Dice number + 10 vs. Dice number + 9

As for perfectionist- no. It lowers your critical failure number by -1. Usually it is 1, so if you roll a 1 in a wisdom roll, your spell would backfire on you. With no abilities around that affect crit fail ranges, you would be unable to have spells backfire. Some abilities do bring that number up to 2, meaning perfectionist would lower this to 1 for you.
You can still fail spells though, just like everyone else.

The chance to hit is higher. But if the dice number added to it is 3 (+10=13) and the one for evasion is 12 (+9=21), then the spell would miss.

I have a question about the duelling system. So, after I rolled to see if the spell was cast (it worked) then how do I calculate if it backfires? You need to do this:

t!roll d20

And then with that number, how do you know if it backfires? And what happens if you are a Perfectionist, does it make a difference? Thank you!

If the wisdom roll is a success, then there is no backfiring! It backfires if you roll a 1 in wisdom

If the wisdom roll is a success, then there is no backfiring! It backfires if you roll a 1 in wisdom

Sorry to double post, I do have another question.

If someone casts the levitation charm, it says that you will loose 20 HP but...it also says 40 HP can someone please explain? Thank you!!

The 40 HP only apply to a crit success. Crit success is the opposite of a crit fail, so if the wisdom roll is a 20.
