CL Brooms at the Ready!

The day was breezy, yet warm enough for a spot of flying. A black haired girl made her way through the crowds of students, eyes silky and face blank. It was interesting how she managed to keep it, for it was most unusual for a student not smiling or being sad at least.

She carried a broom under her hand, wood polished with special polish and twigs trimmed and cut to perfection. Duvessa was always immaculate, her clothes always without a speck of dust or hair going wild. She noticed the Gryffindor that was meant to presumebly be named Fang Hui-Ying. There were also her teammates, Bea who she had once had a few discussions in the common room and was comfortable around and another boy Ashley Montez, who was a Ravenclaw.

And the opposing team? One Hufflepuff and two Gryffindors. One was Aurora, who she had dueled with previously as well as a very random boy she had never seen in her entire life, his name begining with....O? Was it Oliver? Odilon? And another Gryffindor, Raizel Duvessa thought as she struggled to re-call their names.

So, armed with her broom and a hairstyle that she plaited herself for flying (one could go as far as calling it her signature flying style), she was off. At first, she perched on her Comet 180 and glided a bit from side to side and after regaining position she gave a sharp dive upwards and was in the air. Free.

Hogwarts has a couple of sports that its students can have fun with and sure enough, a lot of them wanted to have a go, even aspiring to join their house's official sports team. While Raizel is one of those students who kind of wanted to get into a team, especially the dueling team, she didn't expect that another sport would catch her eyes, especially something that involves a broom. She isn't that good in flying even though she does pretty well in their flying lesson but outside of that, she is probably one of the worst flyers in school. For one, she did accidentally bump into someone and that was an impactful crash and luckily, they got nothing but a couple of bruises maybe and a slight headache.

After catching a glimpse of this sport called broom racing, she can't help but think how exciting it looks if you ignore how brutal it can be. People get badly hurt in this game. This game was wild in its own way and maybe, even wilder than dueling but that is just her opinion. Dueling will still be number one for her even if she might suck at it but Broom Racing is just giving off that exciting vibe, enough to make your adrenaline pump even just by watching it. The moment she felt that when she laid eyes on it, she immediately knew that it's something she should at least try once or even twice. Sharing that enthusiasm was her friend Ying and the moment she heard that she wanted to hold a small racing event, the brunette immediately decided to join in.

Despite her luck at some point and she was already thinking about how bad this will turn out for her, she took the challenge head on with a look of excitement and determination on her face. Another hospital wing visit will probably be the end for her and the others that are participating but hey, this is her only chance to participate in such a sport. Once all participants were present, she took her time to give them all a quick look. A couple of familiar faces. Aurora and Ashley had joined in. A Gryffindor student was also present but she couldn't remember if she had seen him before or not or even if she remembers his name. What was it again? Onion? Nope, that doesn't sound right. Odilon, right. Then there's two more girls and like the Gryffindor boy, she couldn't remember them. That's another thing she sucks at, remembering names. Have she met them? Aside from just crossing paths with each other when they are on their way to classes. Was it Beatrice and Duvessa? She just shrugged it off. It'll come back to her if it's within her memory.

Once the team is decided, she can't help but feel relieved knowing that she's teamed up with someone familiar, Aurora or Ro for short. "Seems like we're working together again." Raizel told Aurora with a smile and then looked over to her fellow Gryffindor student. "Yo, good luck to us all. Raizel's the name by the way." She introduced herself, her smile never fading. She looked at the broom in her hand and positioned herself to mount it. She gave the ground a kick to get herself up in the air and positioned herself on the start of the race. Her mom will probably be disappointed that she's using the broom again and joining a race while her father will probably be supportive of her in doing so.

So, Broom Racing. When I first came to Hogwarts, I was next to obsessed with it. But now...? Not so much. But if anything, a sport of deadly maneuvers sounded like a perfect idea to me, honestly. But, the problem was that when I first came to Hogwarts, I was terrible at flying. In other words, I pretty much sucked at it...at the time. At least I've gotten a whole lot better since then...I think.

So, let me admit that I was a little nervous when I arrived at the Outdoor Club Area at first. But I felt my mood lift when I saw a familiar face. Raizel, who I had worked with while we were doing a fun dueling game a while back. I saw another face, who I wasn't as excited to see; Duvessa. The Slytherin girl I had dueled against a few months back. But oh well. There was also Ashley, who I recognized from that same dueling game that Raizel and I were in.

Waving to both my allies and adversaries, I walked up to Raizel, smiling. "Hi! Great to see you again! It does seem like we keep becoming allies, doesn't it?" I said. Then I addressed the second Gryffindor (funny, I don't usually meet a lot of Gryffindors) and said, "Hello! I'm Aurora, but you can call me Ro. It's very nice to meet you, and good luck!" Oh wait, I should've asked his name too. Oh well...

I was excited, and I was so ready to start. Playing deadly sports like this sounded quite exciting and adrenaline pumping, and I was very willing to help my team, even if I was the only Hufflepuff on the team. Actually, the only Hufflepuff in the entire game. But again, oh well. I was secretly wishing my team good luck, hoping that none of us died, etc., and more importantly, I was simply willing to have some good, deadly fun!

Odi stepped out into the open air, the harsh sun forcing him to squint against the light. His gorgeous features became lit perfectly against the light of the spring daytime. It didn’t take him long to find the rest of the broom-racers, given that they were the only ones holding broom sticks and not wearing school robes.



Jogging over to meet them, Odi caught sight of their broomsticks and suddenly became very self-conscious of his own. There were a couple of students with a regular school broom too, but a few others had upgraded from the old splintered woodshafts to more modern models.

Odi felt his cheeks turn slightly pink. His mother had said that they would buy him his own broomstick when he made the quidditch or broom-racing team, but since this was an unofficial race, he would have to make do. He silently cursed at this injustice.

His eyes locked on to Fang, a fellow Gryffindor girl he had met during a game of truth or dare. He jutted his chin up at her in recognition before turning to look at the rest of the teams.


He hadn’t met any of the girls before, but he clocked the boy on the opposing team as Ashley Montez, a Ravenclaw boy he had met in the abandoned toilets during a vulnerable moment. Odi cast his gaze away, unwilling to look him in the eye. He had asked around about the other opponents. Duvessa Ember and Beatrice Dupont, both Slytherin girls, both from wealthy families. He shot the pair of them a dazzling smirk and a quick wink as he passed by them, he felt a familiar sensation as though there were an invisible magnet behind his eyes, almost drawing the subject of his gaze in invitingly.



The two girls on his own team clearly knew each other beforehand, but Odi had never met either of them. The two of them were exchanging pleasantries before they turned back to Odi to introduce themselves properly. The Gryffindor girl introduced herself as Raizel, while the other was a Hufflepuff who revealed her name to be Aurora. “Odi.” He replied somewhat curtly to them, his eyes fixed upon the other team and their brooms. “You two take the lead and I’ll follow up, your brooms are both faster than mine.”



It was impossible to miss the jealousy dripping from Odi’s tone, but there was little time to react to it as in the next moment he was swinging one leg over the other side of his broom and kicking off to the skies.

It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon and the sun seemed to reach out and touch Beatrice's cheeks as she made her way down to the outdoor club area. Ying, a Gryffindor girl that Beatrice had briefly met in the maze, had organized an unofficial broom race together with Finley Greer. Beatrice knew both barely but she felt that it was time to get on her broom again. Feeling the warm sun and the light breeze on her, she was already imagining being up in the sky. Today, she was in a good mood and hopefully that would stay like this. Beatrice was compassionate and ambitious with things like this but today was supposed to be fun. Although she would of course try and win with her team. She had choosen a sporty outfit for the occasion, tying her hair up in a half up and half down style had also been a natural decision. The black sport leggings on her legs had the same color as the converse she was wearing and of course she had choosen a Slytherin Sweater to finish off her outfit. Her wand was safely tugged into a tight pocket on her leg, that was sewn onto the leggings. Beatrice knew her team mates already. Duvessa was in the same house and year as her and Beatrice liked her. She seemed nice and Beatrice had no problem conversing and interacting with her. Ashley, a Ravenclaw boy, was Lucian's friend and she had met him at her Parents Easter Feast. As she stepped closer, she could not help but notice one of the boys that winked and smirked at both Duvessa and her which only made Beatrice squint her eyes before relaxing her face and sending the other group a smile. There was Aurora Griffith, Raizel Voltrouz and Odilon Wilde. All of them were only familiar to her from classes and seeing them around but she had only cared enough to learn their names for this particular game. Beatrice greeted Ying with a smile and a wave before turning to Duvessa and Ashley. »I'm glad we are on a team together, this will surely be fun.« she told them with a smile. Then she turned back to Ying. Very soon, it was time to get up on their brooms and Beatrice took her place at the starting line, sending the other team a smirk. This wasn't her first race but it was hard to cast spells and fly at the same time. On Ying's go, the race started.

"The start of something new, right?"

Ashley had been active, seeking to take part in as many sporting events as he could. The fact that he chose to take part in a sport that many people consider dangerous was incredibly fascinating, but of course, danger also gives him an adrenaline rush. Since duelling and not broom racing provided the majority of the young Ravenclaw's desire, he had been very hesitant to really try it. However, since many have deemed it risky, there is little harm in giving it a shot.

Ashley made the decision to try something fresh on his end on Saturday at 3pm. It was unusual for a young Gryffindor to work with a carer to truly give kids a taste of exposure. More intense and exciting than ever, it was. Let the games now begin.

On this rare occasion, Ashley was matched with two Slytherins. It was fascinating and exhilarating at the same time, and they look like a fantastic fit to be paired with. It was clear that the girl was following in her brother's footsteps and that she also seemed to want to go the additional mile because Ying had hosted the broom race for Hogwarts students. It is impossible to deny that the ravenclaw boy was impressed by this and that he was anxious excited to begin everything.

Adrenaline rushed through Beatrice's veins as the race started. Her heart was pounding in her chest with excitement as all racers went swooshing into the game. The wind pulled her hair back and the feeling of pure excitement and competition exploded all throughout her. The harsh, still a bit cold air burned a little in her eyes and yet a big smile was spread across her lips. However, mere moments past before someone, Aurora Griffith, performed a perfect bubble producing charm. Beatrice squinted her eyes, pulling out her wand and deciding to cast a spell herself. She wanted her team to win and what was a broom race without casting a few spells? Pointing at Aurora, who was still partly covered by bubbles, Beatrice moved her wand precisely upward left, horizontally to the right, and back down to the right and spoke »Tarantallegra« at Aurora. However, she had underestimated all the bubbles including her speed and her fast moving target. Ashley had more luck as he cast Flipendo right into Raizel Voltrouz chest. She smiled because of the success, but still watched as the spell she had cast missed her target by a large centimeter and Aurora was able to turn in time. Beatrice bit her lip in frustration but was barely able to think about it too much, as Odilon from the other team tried to cast the same spell on her, that she had just tried to cast on Aurora. Beatrice already wanted to evade but the boy seemed to have trouble even producing the charm. With a grin at him, Beatrice turned her face back forward and made herself smaller, swooshing right into the next unit of trees. Two racers were already further ahead, Duvessa and Raizel.

The air whistled in her ears as a symbol of the game starting. Her goal was to win, and, despite sounding weird, to survive. She tried the tactic of slipping unavoided, clinging to the side and watching the Hufflepuff cast a well performed Bubble-Head Charm. Luckily it happened on both her team mates, and unfortunately Going for Gold.

Bea tried (unsuccessfully) to use the dancing feet spell on Aurora, and Duvessa felt herself clutching her broom tightly in hope that it worked. Several more spells were shot, which Bea managed to evade successfully as the black haired Slytherin focused on her goal. To get as far as possible. She resisted the urge of smashing straight into Raizel, who seemed to have been trying to escape unnoticed like Duvessa.

However, it was perhaps her luck was ending because of a sudden outburst of trees. She dodged, swerving in the air and attempting to not get blinded by any of the branches sticking out at odd angles. Gasping to herself, she ducked and found herself on the other side, unharmed. A wave of relief swept over her - now she only hoped that her teammates would have made it.

Next, rather more prepared and determined as ever, she glided through the bunches of easy vines, luckily swooping through elegantly and without any brusises or worse. She looked at everything ahead of her, and fervently hoped that this small stream of good luck would not end.
