An American Tribute Ilvermorny Arrival Thread

8:57 pm

The third ship to arrive on this day came from America. Their Headmaster Lazarus Plott loved his fanfare, his audience and being of course fashionably late. They were supposed to arrive at 3:45 pm, but they would not arrive until almost 9 pm. The lake was as dark as pitch and the sky was like crushed black velvet, less the hazy appearance of the moon behind a thick veil of clouds. It has been raining heavily for the past several hours and there was finally a break in the storm that would not last for long.

And that was when it happened. Something would shoot from the water, a rocket. A burst of red would flare up in the sky, against a backdrop of black nimbostratus clouds. Another would breech the now churning waters, blue! Then a third, blinding white. This would be followed by a barrage of pops and bangs as an array of red, white and blue fireworks lit up the sky as a light rain started to sprinkle once again. The ship would break the surface, the star of the fanfare as the late arrivals announced their presence in recurrent style.

Rowboats would be lowered into the choppy waters and the students would make their way to shore.

Lazarus Plott - iNPC, Ilvermorny Headmaster

Lazarus Plott would be among the first to make it to shore. He would be on one of those lowly rowboats, driven of course by a team of teenagers with him standing proudly in the center. [Any NPC that wishes to be one of those unfortunate children can claim to be in this rowboat.] He would tell them about his days as a star on Broadway, on off-Broadway shows and of course what the heck Broadway is. He loved to talk about himself and in conversation there was little space for anyone besides Lazarus.

"OK, good job, we did great" how 'we' was involved in a 'them' scenario was really on mark for Headmaster Plott. "Just push it onto shore," he instructed as if he had been a seafaring captain for years. He did play one in a show this one time, the obvious star but the light was always directed to one of the ancillary members of the cast. This Peter-something. It was a frustration he was not about to get into here and now. He was not going to get his attire any wetter than he had to, the umbrella charm already cast to protect his head from the devastating effects of unanticipated moisture. His robes were made from Persian silk and he was not about to see them ruined due to inclimate weather. In fact that was why they were so late, he absolutely refused to surface until they could release their fireworks and even more importantly, avoid the worst of the rain.

On his approach he would approach the nearest adult present (if none posts within 24 hours of my post, then my PC Solomon Lear) and comment about the tragedy earlier in the day. "It was a real shame, those Mahoutokoro students had a rough go of it," 'tsking his tongue thereafter as he moved along the rocky shore with his wand still in hand, protecting his head and form from the impending threat of rain. "We need to get inside before the weather turns again folks," he announced to his students. Appearances were after all everything to a man as vain as Lazarus Plott. "You do have a meal ready for us I hope, this was a long and arduous journey for my students and they have been dying to get a taste of English food again," it was hard to tell if he was being sarcastic or not at the mention of dying for their food with the exaggerated tone he had taken. In truth, he knew they were in Scotland and he hated the texture and the taste of their food, it was too heavy and rich, it lacked the spice he had grown accustomed to in the states.

Andy always knew their headmaster, Mr. Plott, actually had a not very good reputation among Ilvermorny students, but the brown-haired Second Year Thunderbird did not know why was that until today, when their boat arrived at the great lake in Hogwarts very late in the evening, almost 9 pm that day, Apr 16th, when the sky and of course the lake was just too dark to row the boats and see anyone around the lake. The brown-haired Thunderbird broom racer did not eat much that day and the Ilvermorny students had a very long travel lasting almost a day, so Andy was of course tired and hungry, and not in a good mood. What was worse, their "dearest" (in fact most hated) headmaster, Mr. Plott, was proudly standing in the center of a boat driven by a few tired teens, and Andy was unfortunately one of them.

"Shit! Why we have to drive the boat for this goddamn hell headmaster Plott, while he just proudly stand in the middle seeming to enjoy his students, that`s us, serving for him? As the headmaster, he is supposed to serve the students, not the other way round! I haven`t eat much on this whole day, and I am just so tired and hungry! We could have arrived earlier, but this lake is just too dark to row our boats in! I just wanted to arrive at the Ilvermorny cabin as soon as possible, and just grab some snacks from the great hall before sleep!" Andy murmured in extreme anger as the brown-haired Thunderbird himself was driving the boat for the headmaster with the other unfortunate Ilvermorny kids who just had to do that exhuasting job. The brown-haired Second Year Thunderbird broom racer just could not understand why this nasty headmaster had come up with such a "brilliant" idea for his students to drive the boat for him while himself just proudly stood in the middle doing nothing apart from trash talking nonsense.

Outfit
Estelle generally liked her school. Especially since it gave her a lot of freedom from home, it was a lot less awkward and the atmosphere of the school was always light. The people were annoying, though. But the most annoying person of the school? Headmaster Plott.

Estelle had learnt from the first day she had arrived at school, that the Headmaster was generally annoying. How, she didn't really have much of a reason until the first time she was going to Hogwarts. The old bastard made them do all the work while he every so often encouraged the students to keep going.

Estelle tried to contain her bad mood as she attempted to help control the ship with the rest of her school, she could hear people muttering and cursing all around about how horrible Plott was. Estelle couldn't argue, but she also was a bit annoyed. With Plott. With the people around her. With the boat. When she heard a Thunderbird murmur about Plott, she turned toward him, stopping her work for just a second.

"Don't bother, Andy," Estelle told him, "Plott's a damn idiot for sure, but nothing's going to change unless you actually say it to his face." Estelle thought about what she said for a few moments. Then she shook her head and let out a small laugh, "No, don't do that. I don't want my fri-" Estelle cut herself off, hesitating before she continued, "You getting expelled." Estelle didn't want to refer to Andy as her friend. But he was good company, he could just be annoyingly talkative at times.

Lazarus Plott - iNPC, Ilvermorny Headmaster

The students were terrible sluggish with their rowing. It was disappointing to know that they did not make children like they used to. They would eventually make it to the shore with a dramatic pause that would have lost most audiences, for shame really children. He would address Solomon Lear of all men, waiting for him on the shore. Solomon was a dour man, especially as his youth drained from him, leaving him a dried husk of his former self. If it was not for their pre-existing hatred of one another, he would be disgusted by the shear nature of the man whose youth and vigor were lost to him. For a man who was willing to etch out for himself such an ordinary and disappointing existence.

He was not going to chat with the Englishman for long, preferably at all. His students were of course dallying. "Don't bother with my bags, I left them on the ship" he announced dismissively to his house elves students. His hand would give them a careless wave, they were relieved of any additional duties for the time being. "Solomon, we will have to follow up in your office sometime. We can hash out this baseless paranoia there."

Take deep cleansing breaths...

In and out.

He was going to need to concentrate on something if there was any hope of keeping a straight face with the arrival of Ilvermorny. He found the school distasteful, a sort of Hogwarts lite, a founder too lazy to make a creative setting so they instead built the very foundation of their school on a vague understanding of a school the founder never attended. Yet distaste can fade into a sort of vague pity for their American imitators. The true reason for his ire was Lazarus Plott, the Headmaster of Ilvermorny. The man was obnoxious, but that was not even the issue. The issue was his shady past, his attempt to extort the Englishman and his... well, he could not put his finger on it, but there was something 'off' about him that went even deeper than his past transgressions and present social nuances that rubbed him the "wrong way."

An interaction between the two could not happen without a needle. How Hogwarts was so very 'unsafe' and more a haven for 'monsters and terrorists.' Yet as he would remind the sham of a Headmaster later most surely, in spite of those incidents, Hogwarts remains the center of the universe in the wizarding world. The Hexwizard tournament would only further reinforce his point in coming months.

"It was a real shame, those Mahoutokoro students had a rough go of it."

But it was what he said after he landed on shore that truly stood out to the Headmaster. His eyes widened slightly, "and what do you know of that Eleazar?" He did not make eye contact with the American wizard, he was not about to make a scene in front of the kids. "I'm glad to know WWN reaches the bottom of the Black Lake, this will really change the standard of living for the mer," he commented knowing full well why this man's eyes should be brown.

"Solomon, we will have to follow up in your office sometime. We can hash out this baseless paranoia there."

Plott would reply and his eyes would flicker towards the smarmy man. "I'm not paranoid, I just have an intact memory and see you for what you are."

He was not going to have it out with Lazarus on the shores of the Great Lake. Turning from the Headmaster who was more concerned about the rain destroying his make-up, he would extend a hand in greeting to the students that vacated the rowboat(s) and stepped foot on shore. "Welcome (back) to Hogwarts," his hand was gloved and his forearm was covered in armor as it always was. "I am glad you arrived safely, a terrible accident has left Mahoutokoro worse for the wear but you can join them in the castle if you want to warm up." The rain would only let up for a short while and Solomon knew it, but the rain did not bother him. There was something comforting about the sound and the scent. "It is a bit late for a full spread but we have meat and vegetable pies in the great hall as well as pitchers of pumpkin juice."

As Andy was complaining in a very low voice about the tiring job as he was rowing the boat with other students from Ilvermorny for their "dearest" headmaster Plott with the foolish and annoying headmaster just proudly standing in the middle of the boat, the brown-haired Second Year Thunderbird broom racer heard a familiar voice talking to him. He turned around, and it was a particular girl from Wampus Cat, the red-haired girl she met earlier this month in Ilvermorny, Estelle, who was also rowing the boat with other Ilvermorny students. Es persuaded Andy to stop complaining cos nothing was going to change unless someone talked back to Headmaster Plott, which was definitely very dangerous and no one probably dare to do that.

"Oh, Es! Keep your voice low, else Headmaster Plott will hear us! I`m just complaining about this, and I know nothing`s gonna change!" Andy leaned over to Estelle and whispered to her while continuing to roll the boat for the headmaster, "Anyway, I think our job is gonna finish soon since the boat seemed to be approaching the shore now!"

After a short while, the boat, driven of course by those tired students including Es and Andy, finally made it to the shore. The man welcoming them seemed to be in charge of Hogwarts, probably also a headmaster, had some quick words with Headmaster Plott and then welcomed the students to, or back to Hogwarts. He then mentioned that their rival in the Hexwizard Tournment, the Japanese school Mahoutokoro, had a terrible accident when they come here earlier that day, and there was some meat and vegatable pie and pumpkin juices left in the great hall.

"Oh, the Japanese school. Shame on them for having that terrible accident, whatever it was. That was probably the price for taking away the win against us in the first Hexwizard task. I hope they will further pay their price in the second task, letting them know the Americans are not as easy to defeat as they may think." The brown-haired Thunderbird broom racer continued to whisper to Es as he parpared to get down from the boat, "Anyway, Es, let`s get down the boat now. I wanna grab some snacks in the great hall before sleep cos I haven`t eaten and rested much today, and I`m so tired and hungry! Enough talking, let`s go now!" When Andy finished his speech, the brown-haired Second Year Thunderbird broom racer held out a hand to Es and attempted to get down the boat with the other red-haired girl from Wampus Cat together.

April 16, 2023 - Ilvermorny arrives at Hogwarts

It was hard to imagine just how much worse this day could get, but the hits just kept coming, and not, unfortunately, from the venerated stage productions one could reminisce about having seen on the stages of Broadway either. As Stephen looked up at his jabber-jaw of a Headmaster, all he could think was that the man was a sad figure. Incredibly annoying, but sad nonetheless. Stephen leaned over to Menton and whispered in his ear, "A star on Broadway my Great Aunt Fanny. If he was a star in anything on Broadway, I'll eat my school robe. At best I see him as an understudy for the chorus line. At best."

Stephen was usually a very agreeable fellow, but to say that he held little to no respect for the vain peacock droning on and on about his days on New York's premiere stages was not an overstatement. As Stephen and the rest of the slaves students toiled to get the boat to shore, on empty stomachs, in the dark, the thought more than once crossed his mind to accidentally-on-purpose tip the boat just enough that their good ol' Headmaster could find himself splashing around in the lake. The weight of all those wet, expensive, flowing robes might just drag him down into the dark depths. Stephen found himself no longer concentrating on rowing like a good little galley slave but was actually smiling at the thought of Lazarus Plott with his foot tangled in some aquatic flora as his robes floated around him in beautiful, ribboned tendrils. His skin would have taken on a deathly greenish-white pallor as his open, glassy eyes would stare at nothing. But it was his mouth, his wide, open mouth, that made Stephen smile the most as it was blissfully and forever silenced in his little fantasy vision.

It was morbid, yes, and he would, of course, never actually do such a thing, but the man pressed every one of Stephen's buttons. He was grumpy and overly tired and wet and hangry. He knew, given all of that, if the peacock ever went in, he himself would be the first in to help chickenfeathers out. That is just how it worked with him.

As they reached the shore, Hogwarts' Headmaster Lear was there to greet them. This surprised Stephen as they were so late, but he was grateful for the show of etiquette. He heard Headmaster Lear mention something about a terrible accident that the Mahoutokoro ship had experienced earlier upon arrival and Stephen hoped they were all okay. Ilvermorny did take a nasty drubbing from the school in Task 1 of the Hexwizard tournament last fall, but he would never wish any harm on any of them. In the back of his mind he wondered if the black bishop, Chris, was okay. He would need to do some asking around to find out.

Maybe now would be a good time. He approached Headmaster Lear to thank him for the welcome and was about to ask him how he could find out the status of the Japanese students when his own Headmaster cast him aside as he might a ladybug on his finger. Annoyance, but not surprise, sparked within Stephen and he was surprised to see the same written all over the Hogwarts' Headmaster's face as well, but likely for different reasons.

No love lost between those two, that is for sure.

Stephen grabbed his bag and headed for the Great Hall as he had been invited to do. Food and then sleep was on his immediate agenda, and maybe a shot at finding about the black bishop. It had been a long day. He looked around the shoreline for any sign of Miles or Jamie or Louca. Or EmmaLee, but to be fair, Stephen wasn't altogether certain it wasn't past her curfew, so not seeing her there to greet them was indicative of nothing really.

Miles, Jamie, and Louca had had the good sense to avoid Plott and were probably already eating and warming themselves. Time to hustle up to the castle so he could do the same.

At the exact moment when Andy was preparing to get down from the boat and arrive at great hall to grab some late night snacks as he was invited to do so, the brown-haired Thunderbird heard another voice talking to him. The Second Year Thunderbird turned around, and found out it was a boy that used to be on the waitlist on the Ilvermorny Hexwizard team, but actually got the chance to play in the first task, Stephen. Stephen leaned his ear to Andy and whispered to him about something about Broadway. As a pureblood kid, Andy was not exactly sure what Broadway was, but since Stephen`s aunt was a star on that and Headmaster Plott being an understudy in the chorus line, the brown-haired Second Year Thunderbird sensed it must be some sort of a muggle show or something like that, that involves some singing and maybe some acting.

"Your aunt is a star on Broadway, Stephen? Is that like some sorts of a muggle show? Sorry I`m not very sure about that, but your aunt being on it sounds pretty cool. As for Headmaster Plott, I think he could play a very small character that is so full of himself and instantly get killed if he is involved in a play or a show, something like that. He really is like that. Shh, be quiet, I don`t want anyone else to heard that." Andy also whispered back to Stephen in a very low voice in order of noone else to hear that, "Anyway, I think it is time to get down from the boat now. Do you wanna go to the great hall with me and Es? By the way, have you seen Miles anywhere around?" Andy`s speech was cut short cos Stephen quickly grabbed his bag, left the boat ,and headed to the great hall to grab some snacks there.

"I think I should also go now since Stephen has left, let`s go now, Es. I don`t wanna waste time on this boat. If you would rather spend more time here, then see you in the great hall. I don`t wanna sound mean or anything like that, I`m just tired and hungry and wanna get some food as soon as possible. It`s getting late." Andy then patted the red-haired Wampus Cat girl named Es gently on the back and pushed the red-haired girl slightly to leave the boat with him as quickly as possible.
