2023, Stage 2 Slytherin vs Ravenclaw: Match 9

Santario glanced at Ileen from the corners of her eyes when the purple light of reparifors covered her once more with that all too known soothing feeling. With her mind jumbled, it was best that she went on the attack instead of fumbling another healing spell the risk wasn’t worth it, especially not at Ileen’s expense. They might have been on the winning side currently, but Santario had seen duels turn the tide at a moment's notice, and Thomas was not one to underestimate. Which is why his inaction visibly took her aback. It was great that her spell hit, knocking the wand from his hand, but the halfhearted attempt to dodge made her furrow her brow. She had seen many duellists freeze up before but did not think he was one of them. She only hoped he wasn’t about to quit. Your opponent forfeiting wasn’t a way to win, and Santario found it quite hard to respect those who did it. "Keep your guard up." Santario whispered in Ileen's direction. For all they knew, this could have been a ploy to get them to drop their defenses.

It seemed like a mix of emotions were passing over the Slytherins. Relief, confusion, maybe suspicion...? The Ravenclaws offense had stalled and the Slytherins were in great shape now, but why hadn't Thomas cast? As Jake watched nervously to see what Thomas was going to do, the Slytherins began their two-on-one assault. A wind jinx from Santario, a knockback jinx from Ilene, there was nothing Thomas COULD do but go on the defensive. But Thomas was not easy to hit. Though the Slytherins were very good duelists, Thomas was quick, and both spells missed by just a hair, zipping past the Ravenclaw boy, as he weaved around them.

The time in this duel was running out. There wasn't much longer to go. At first Jake thought it was gonna be a bloodbath, like how things started. A barrage of spells and flames. But if Thomas could just survive....Jake thought that was the best for everybody. If Thomas could avoid getting hit then he wouldn't have to get hurt by a two-on-one and the Slytherins would still get the win they deserved. That seemed fair...Jake knew it was just the rules of a duel, and it was how things had to go but it didn't stop it from feeling wrong somehow when one person had to fight two. But Jake knew that Thomas wouldn't forfeit. Not even Jake would do that, if it meant letting the team down.

The momentum had swung solidly to the Slytherin side as the duel entered the closing stretches.

Santario scowled as she watched her opponent. He may have evaded, but his movements were half-assed at best. Which meant one of two things. He had either given up or was hit by a mental frog that the captains called being frozen. It was a perilous position for a player to be in, and quite honestly, Santario missed the days when players were carted out when they hit a phase like this. Not only because it was dangerous to the player in question but also because it was a waste of time for everyone else. “If this weren’t a school-sanctioned event, he would get himself killed.” She hissed more to herself than anyone else. Thankfully the duel was almost over as it was, but this was boring and tiresome.

Ileen blinked slightly irritated as her spell missed its mark. Santario who had hit all the time before also seemed to be confused by the situation they were presented with.
Worried Ileen frowned and tilted her head. Was everything okay? It seemed that Thomas was only on his toes to dodge and not trying to get his wand back. It was almost as her own wand was refusing to fight someone who was unarmed ans not fighting back.

Thrown off she moved to Jake and opened her mouth, but not sure what she actually wanted to address, she closed it again and turned towards the Ravenclaw.
She knew how it was to be alone on the stage. It wasn’t a nice feeling. But she also has seen solo fighters turn it around when everything had seemed to be lost.

Jake didn't know WHAT had happened to Thomas - but he had seen people freeze before. He know HE would have frozen if he was Thomas. He might not have known why it had happened (He had seen Thomas face a LOT on a dueling platform), but one thing he DID know was that he couldn't let the duel continue if Thomas wasn't gonna fight back. If anybody got hurt, that would be Jake's fault. He wasn't going to let that happen, even if it DID mean that Thomas might get mad at him.

"Stop!" Jake finally shouted, jumping up as in out of a stupor. The duel had been so intense, he didn't even know if he'd have the POWER to stop it, and he looked around uneasily. But it had to be done. He had already let it go too long already... he was sure that he should have stopped it even earlier than he did. He'd never had to stop a duel this way before though. It was like he'd been just waiting for Thomas to snap into action. He wouldn't let himself wait too long again... Luckily, even without his wand, Thomas remained unscathed. Jake hoped everybody would understand... but from the looks on the Slytherin's faces they had wanted it to stop too. And as for Thomas...well it was for his own good... right?

"Um, sorry, but Slytherin wins!" Jake said with a pang of guilt, but also a little bit of relief. It had really seemed inevitable even if Thomas HAD been casting. Could he really have fought off two powerful snakes at once? They would never know for sure... but Jake felt sure he had done the right thing.
Slytherin Wins!
Information

Due to no actions for the Ravenclaw team in 2 consecutive rounds, this duel has ended due to forced forfeit. I'm sorry, as this actually should have gone into effect last round. If you'd like, you can make an exit post of 50 words minimum, but it isn't required. Thanks for the intense duel O_O
