With more than half the allocated time for the duel passed, the casters all seemed to kick it up a notch: The Gryffindors, correctly predicting an incoming volley of spread spells chose to both put up Shields, perhaps hoping to skewer their opponents on their own offensive.

That is not what happened.

While both of the Ravenclaws did, indeed spread their spells, Dealla Prince cast a weather-modifying spell; an indirect form of attack, but one that would circumvent the shields erected by the Lions. Phaedra Stavrou, meanwhile, attempted something more direct with a Confundo -- with the Lions having failed to deal any damage to the Eagles, taking away their spell repertoire was an excellent disabling strategy.

Meenauh's bad luck with the shield spell continues, as, yet another spell pierced her shield. What happened to Lansdale shield, though, was altogether more interesting. Stavrou's Spread Confundo slowed down upon contact with the shield, before ricocheting back towards the Ravenclaw team -- was it headed for Stavrou? Prince? Bth seemed to be ready for it to come towards them. Alas, the rebounded spell veered off harmlessly somewhere in between the two Ravenclaw duellists.

With only four rounds left to casting, things were really looking bad for the Gryffindors. But with bad luck hanging above them like the clouds summoned by Dealla, at least they hadn't yet been struck by lightning.

A guessing game with shields wasn't one that Phaedra wanted to partake in, and so with a flick of her wand, she took to disabling their potential for quick thinking. Her Confundus charm sliced through Meenauh's defenses; a surprising feat to have happened not only twice, but so perfectly each occurrence. Were the advanced spells more likely to pierce barriers, or was the normally proficient witch across the piste merely falling victim to her own exhaustion? A question for another day. They had a duel to finish.

It felt like there was a small halt, a short hesitation in the duel as Dee eyed the Gryffindors, trying to guess at what they'd do next. Would they attack, trying to gain some advantage, aware of the time that was ticking down rapidly? Or would they stick to their defense now that the Ravenclaws were both back to top shape, if a little disheveled? She knew what she would have done, of course, but opponent strategies were regularly a mystery to her.

"Metelojinx," was the safe option, an insurance, of sorts. She'd yet to see a shield that would rebound clouds or lightning strikes. It was not a spell she used very often; the effect was erratic, the lightning unpredictable, and it could be turned against them as well, but it seemed to have been the right choice, considering both Meenauh and Galton had managed to pull up shields in front of them.

Not that this would stop Phaedra. Half surprised, half awed, Dee watched as Phae's spell once again cut cleanly through Meenauh's shield, another perfectly aimed hit. She blinked, trying to remember what the spell did. Something about confusing the opponent? "Can you teach me that, too?" she asked, fascinated.

He had expected chaos - he had expected something spectacular. Double shields would surely be a sight to see against two people capable of spreading spells. But the Ravens had more restraint than he thought possible. Compliments to them, but it was so anticlimactic. Galton did not like taking such a "safe" move, nor did his wand. A voice in the back of his head told him Mr. Wand would be expecting payment now. The blasted thing demanded a show, and he'd hardly provided that.

To make the lack of excitement sting even worse, Meenauh had taken a hit. For the first time in their lives, Galton may have known more spells than his partner - a thought that he certainty wouldn't be sharing with the confused duelist. "Don't worry - It's only temporary!" He shouted over to his partner. Maybe it would provide some reassurance.

There was not much Meenauh could do at this point. She'd predicted perfectly when to shield, anticipated all the attacks, and yet Phaedra was just too good, slicing through shields like it was nothing. And now Meenauh's head was spinning, and she couldn't shield if she wanted to, so might as well try to deal one last bit of damage while she could.

Galton blew the cloud, rumbling and flickering ominously, over to the other side of the platform. A smart move, lightning liked to strike at the worst possible moments and any moment about now would be pretty terrible for Meenauh. The other strand of the Ventus that he directed at Dee was swiftly dodged, but at least he evaded the same with a particularly impressive grace. And Meenauh even managed to avoid that first attack by Dee, which quite possibly would have blown her over.

Sadly, Meenauh would be going out with a bang. Not in a good way. Phaedra wielded that wicked Blasting Curse that senior league duellists were becoming painfully acquainted with. Meenauh had no chance of moving fast enough, and once it was combusting in her face, there was no chance of pushing through.

"Stop!" Bridget called quickly, because that was really one of the nastier ways to go down. Meenauh was going to need some attention from the healers, that was for sure. But now it was down to three, Galton left alone against the two Ravenclaws. They'd all proved themselves to be competent duellists, skilled at spreading their magic, but the clock was ticking down and Galton had a lot of ground to make up.

Another flurry of spells crossed the stage. Dee dodged an attack missed both of hers, and winced as she watched Meenauh go down in the wake of another well-aimed explosion. That spell seemed kind of brutal. (She couldn't wait to learn it.) Sighing, she spun her wand around her fingers as she waited for the signal to continue. Meenauh would be fine, there were medics on standby as usual. More concerning to her at the moment was her apparent inability to land any spells. In fairness, the Gryffindors weren't faring much better than she was, but still? She'd have to work on her aim after this duel.

If there was one small “win” to the round, it was the Mr. Wand had not deemed their intervention in the form of Galton’s suffering as necessary. Maybe it had been impressed enough with his previous intentions, or his current, or maybe it just felt pity for what was about to unfold. Whatever it was, Galton felt a tiny bit of satisfaction.

Everything after that would make that feeling quickly wash away. His partner was out, in a much more savage manner than normal, and he was alone. While watching her depart made the all the sympathy in his body scream, he knew that the last thing she would want was him to relent. She’d be disappointed if he didn’t try his best to flip this. And by Merlin, he’d try.

Although refined magic was more to her taste, securing a victory often meant allowing oneself the pleasure of duelling's more volatile options. A simple Flipendo would have sufficed given Meenauh's condition, but she in particular had proven herself full of tricks, favouring shields and ropes even Phaedra hadn't mastered. It was simply better to blast her away, while the opening was there.

The mediwizards took care of the fallen to Phaedra's courtly onlooking. One down, one to go, and likely one more spell to grace the blacklist in the future. (And rightfully so.) Overhead, Dealla's cloud returned to their side with an ominous rumble. Ravenclaw was in a good place with Gryffindor's spell powerhouse taken out of the action, but those clouds and their fickle nature just wouldn't do at all.
