Alana was sitting on top of a smooth marble bench reading one of her textbooks. Hogwarts a History in particular. The young read head seemed intrigued reading the textbook before letting out a quiet sigh. Alana is a first year Gryffindor girl who seemed to have trouble making friends so far. Though for her that isn't normal. Alana tends to make friends easy in her hometown, but she supposed Hastings and Hogwarts are quite different. Staring up at the setting sun Alana figured it was a little past five maybe closer to six. It's quite hard to tell when you do not have a watch. Alana started stacking her books on top of each other. Thankfully the young eleven year old only had three books with her. Alana scanned the grounds humming a soft tune to her. Noting the grounds were not as busy as they previously were due to the Quidditch match that was playing not to long ago. Alana watched the match from the distance. She was curious about flying on broom. The young girl figured flying would be a fun experience, but with her clumsiness she could already see the outcome that could happen if she were to set foot on a broom. But at the same time she was also daring enough to try and possibly learn to fly on top of a broom. After all the adventurous side of her made her want to try and fly even more. Alana started to trek back towards the castle when she noticed a young boy around first year just like herself. Alana recognized him from the quidditch pitch, she recognized the soft mop of black hair on top of his head. He seemed to be leaning against the wall just chilling. Alana being the curious type moved towards him. A smile forming on her soft lips, the young girl saw this as her chance to try and make friends. At least hopefully is what she was thinking. Alana moved closer to the boy stopping a few inches away at least arms length to give the young boy space and to also not to scare him away. Smiling at the young boy Alana stared him in the eyes getting rather excited.

"Hello! My name is Alana. You were playing Quidditch earlier were you not? I am positive I saw you flying around quickly over their by the pitch! Bloody brilliant really, I could never fly like that. Takes great talent. Especially to control a broom. Oh I'm sorry I started to ramble again. What is your name? If you do not mind me asking?"

Taking in a small breath to regain some air after rambling Alana sheepishly looked at the boy. Still smiling her trademark toothy grin. Alana was truly excited after all she was hoping this boy would be a good friend in the future.

I was sitting in the Slytherin common room, reading "Gone With the Wind", being by myself as usual. By the time I finished reading the last page, I looked up and noticed the sun was setting, which meant I had not been outside all day. This, paired with the fact that I had just finished reading "Gone With the Wind" for the third time that day, urged me to take a walk around the Grounds for a little while. I got up and left the common room, and out into the Grounds. It was a peaceful late-afternoon day, with a light breeze that made the tree leaves shuffle ever so slightly. As I walked towards a bench to sit down, I noticed a girl who appeared to be a first-year girl carrying three books in her arms walking right past me. I stepped aside and mumbled, "Sorry." After a few seconds, I turned back to look where the girl was going. I saw her approach a boy who was leaning against one of the castle walls. From what I could see, the girl looked excited, the excitement I presumed was directed at the prospect of talking to the boy. I let out a soft sigh and turned back towards the bench, walking over to it and sitting down. "So much for making a friend today," I thought to myself dejectedly.

Damn it! We lost! I threw my broom where it needed to be and stormed off, barely pausing to congratulate my teammates. Although one thing came from that, I knew I would NEVER touch a broom again. Well, I would never go that high again! I would barely be off the ground in flying class! I wish we didn’t have that. Not everyone likes flying!

I ran a hand through my wind swept hair, that’s when I realised that the deodorant was gone. I smelt like sweat. Ew. It was awful on my senses! Taking a deep breath, I carried on my journey to the castle. Merlin, so desperately wanted to climb into bed! I was so tired, I don’t think I have the energy to do anything!

My ankle twisted and embarrassingly I fell to the floor. A quick, painful breath came out and I was reminded of falling through the air. Feeling helpless. My heart in my mouth.

I got to the castle in a slight limp, my ankle still aching, and stood at the wall, my eyes shut. Maybe staying out here in the fresh air wasn’t so bad. I heard something and lazily opened my eyes two see to girls a little in the distance. One of them was carrying some books and seemed to be heading my direction and the other seemed a little sad as she walked off to the bench. Hm. The book girl was indeed coming my way and when she got here she looked pretty excited. Merlin.

Hello! My name is Alana. You were playing Quidditch earlier were you not? I am positive I saw you flying around quickly over there by the pitch! Bloody brilliant really, I could never fly like that. Takes great talent. Especially to control a broom!

Ha, yeah. I played alright, we went and lost though!” I said with some sourness in my voice. Okay, maybe I was very bitter! My shots didn’t hit at all! I was useless! Mines well have never played! I was a joke and it wasn’t cool, to make it worse I was fouled! “Thank you though, I guess riding a broom does take skill!” falling off it certainly doesn’t.

Oh I'm sorry I started to ramble again,” I waved my hand.

It’s all good, I think I can ramble sometimes,” so much for not wanted to talk to anyone. Oh well, I can cope with this.

What is your name? If you do not mind me asking?” I shrugged and held my hand out for a handshake.

Lucian Michael Bauer Mornstern. You may have heard of my family? Or my Grandfather, Adrian Wesley,” I introduced with a smile. I’m so glad I wasn’t stuttering! I looked back over to the bench where @Magdaline Pritchett was sitting. “Should we maybe go over there? She looks a little… dejected? Sad?

I sighed. What the heck is wrong with me? Why is it so hard for me to talk to other people? These thoughts filled my mind, as I sat on the bench, staring off into the distance. I had not even started classes yet, and I already started feeling homesick. This is the longest I'd ever been away from my sister and mother, and it felt awful. I thought back on all the memories and fun times I'd had with my sis. I felt like I didn't fit in with everyone else at Hogwarts, not even most of the other first years. This was definitely not like me. I was usually happy and not so reserved, even being a shy person. This was definitely homesickness. I quickly pulled out my little pocket diary and began sketching my sister. As I reminisced and continued drawing my sister, I slowly fell deeper and deeper into a state of sadness. I could feel my eyes watering, and then I just started crying softly. I could barely concentrate on my drawing at this point, and then I looked up and saw my sister standing there, more like a vision of her. The vision of my sister spoke, in a voice only I could hear. "Be strong," the vision said to me. "Don't worry about me, just focus on enjoying Hogwarts, I love you Mags.." Then, the vision of my sis faded away.

Alana blinked slowly before turning her gaze towards the young girl sitting by herself humming slightly. A smile growing on Alana's freckled face. Alana glanced at Lucian humming happily.

"We should definitely say hi! After all nobody deserves to be alone after all."

The young red haired girl started to practically skip over towards the young girl. Who seemed very dejected. Alana stopped standing in front of the young girl smiling. Alana tilted her head smiling sweetly at the young Slythrin girl in front of her. Alana smiled sweetly looking back behind her glancing at Lucian. Before staring at the young girl in front of her. Alana's smile grew wider as she held out her hand to the young girl who seemed extremely sad.

"Hello! My name's Alana! What is your name? Are you alright you seem a bit sad?"

Alana started to ramble a bit more. She stared at the young girl with a sympathetic look. She could tell the girl seemed highly depressed and understood that feeling slightly. After all she felt that way before especially when her brother left for Hogwarts the first time. The young fiery red haired girl understood quite well how it felt to be depressed. Awaiting for the young girl to respond Alana glanced back quickly behind her staring at Lucian for a quick second before looking at the young girl in front of her again.

As I cried softly, I felt a presence behind me. I turned around and saw the girl who had walked past me earlier. She seemed sympathetic towards me, like she truly cared, which was something I had not seen from anybody since I arrived at Hogwarts. The boy she had been talking to earlier stood a couple of feet behind her. Deep down, I felt like these two people were genuinely concerned about my well-being, and for a second, I felt a flash of hope in my heart. Then, I started having doubts, and the hope was gone. I sighed. The girl asked me my name and if I was doing alright. I looked at the girl with tears in my eyes, saying, "I-I'm Magdaline... Pritchett. And no... I am not doing good at all... I miss my sister.." I started crying again. I looked down at my half-done sketch of my sister and cried harder. I was definitely depressed. Despite this, a part of me refused to give up. I knew my sister would want me to move on and enjoy this new adventure. I'd always strived to make my sis proud, and I knew I couldn't let her down now, no matter how hard this journey got. Slowly but surely, my tears began to subside.

I watched as Alana walked over to the girl on the bench and spoke to her. I let out a sigh and closed my eyes, the sting of my defeat slowly ebbing away. I just feel so disappointed and sad, first time really playing a quidditch game and we lost.

Deciding to not wallow, I got up and limped over to them both just as the other girl was introducing herself. She said her name was Magdaline and she misses her sister.

I smiled at her (only a small one haha) and sat next to her - part for her comfort but also so it stopped my ankle throbbing - and I went to put my arm around her but I remembered what I had just been doing and remembered I probably had that “boy smell” about me. “It’s okay, I’m- I’m Lucian and I m-miss my brother too. How- how old is your sister? My brother is 9,” I told her, damn it. It’s back. She looked at a sketch that was on her lap, tears filling her eyes. “Is- is that your sister?” I asked, taking a look. She started crying harder and I gently got the sketch so her tears didn’t ruin it. “Stop- stop crying Mags. Why don’t we all go to the owlery? Write her a letter?” I suggested.

It is hard here, especially only a few months since September. It’s all fresh. Especially for us that don’t really spend much time away from home.

Alana smiled sweetly at the duo that was in front of her. The fiery red haired girl clapped her hands happily a broad smile appearing on her face. Alana felt a pang of sadness though she understood missing a sibling. Alana also could not fully understand after all her brother was always away sense he is twenty-one now and Alana was only eleven. Alana stared at the two Slytherin first yeas in front of her calmly a smile edging onto her face. Her sea-foam teal eyes radiated a kindness as her fiery red hair bounced with her sudden movement of excitement.

"Lucian is right?! How about we write letters! You two could write to your siblings and umm I could write to my Mum. I sure miss her. Though She would not want me to be sad. I know how about writing to tell them how Hogwarts is going so far it will be so much fun!"

Alana cheerfully spoke her tone was sweet. Her sea-foam teal eyes sparkled with joy as she held both of her hands together. Her gaze rested onto the duo that was in front of her. The wind gently dancing amongst the trio as if it were agreeing. Alana's fiery red hair seemed to bounce in little waves as she held a large grin on her sun-kissed tone face.
