Never Lose Your Sense of Wonder!
Date: October 5, 2022She was late! Granted she was only a few minutes late but one can never fully grasp what could take place within a few minutes, causing her to panic about what important information she might have missed. She was also worried about what people's reactions may be to her showing up late on the first day the club was to meet.
Struggling to shrug on a light jacket over her long sleeved shirt Adlai fumbled her way down the corridors toward the schools designated out door area. She felt almost like the white rabbit from Alice in Wonderland with the way she was seemingly bouncing about. Nonetheless she assumed all would be well and pushed water panic she was experiencing deep down into her stomach as she approached a group that she assumed were the Golden Explorers and attempted to slyly insert herself into the crowd.
She watched and listened as a series of people made their self introductions. Grinning to herself she was glad that she hadn't seemed to miss too much, though some part of her worried she had missed a few people's introductions, thought that could easily be taken care of with a simple conversation and apology. After all, thats the formula that has fixed misunderstandings and mistakes for decades, so why would it fail her now?

October 5th, 2022323 WordsAlyn almost banged his head off the desk in Potions' class, the professor was boring him to no end; never did he think that something so cool as brewing potions could sound so boring to him, usually the class was exciting but the only thing he could think about was the news he had received that the first Golden Explorers' meeting would be taking place today.
He rushed back to his dorm to get changed into some more comfortable attire, which was just a black t-shirt and a pair of blue jeans, and then paced his way through the halls of the castle to reach the meeting place outside, he reached his destination, and at first glance, he was worried he might be late as other members were already introducing themselves.
Alyn made sure to be quiet as he sat down at one of the picnic tables and listened as the other members gave their introductions, he could not help but smile the whole time he was there, he had waited so long to come to Hogwarts and most importantly, explore what lies beyond the castle and he was hoping this club would give him that opportunity.
He rose from the picnic table as the Hufflepuff girl called AngelFyre finished speaking, though deep down he hoped he didn't come off as perhaps too rude when he began to say his introductions "I hope there will be badges too.." he smiled at the girl, then gazed at everyone in attendance "My name is Alyn, I belong to Slytherin and it is my first year here, I have always loved to explore, back home in London I used to create my own little adventures in the woods close to my house, but now I look forward to exploring with all of you..so yeah..that is me, I hope we can all become great friends." he then proceeded to sit back down.

Even though she'd joined a few clubs last year, this would be her first attendance to any so far. Bea was excited for it, nerves and excitement fluttering in her stomach like butterflies. Her hand hadn't stopped tapping her side for a good part of the walk down to the Outdoor Area.
She knew she was late, which didn't sit well with her, but all the fiddling in her room to get ready for this meeting had pushed out the time. She had screamed internally, kicking herself for it. She hated being late for anything, her Nan had always taught her to be at least 5 minutes early to an appointment. It was just rude to be late. That was the thought process as she had grabbed her scarf and gone to the Club Area.
Finishing the walk down the hill, fingers still tapping away, she spied a few of the members there. She had read the club roster beforehand, not really recognising anyone that she knew. She knew of Bailey, having met her once last year for some Professor errand, if she remembered correctly, but that was it. Even Bailey was a distant memory and a foreign person to Bea. She pulled her cloak tighter across her body, stopping near the edge of the group, waiting to be invited in. She wasn't sure how to proceed.

Rita went ahead and started them off, followed by AF. As AF was introducing herself, a newcomer arrived. Someone who tried to sneakily blend in, so they could pretend they'd been there from the start. Kim had to hide a smirk. She looked vaguely familiar, as if he'd seen her before somewhere but from a long time ago. Alyn was next to introduce himself and that was when another member showed up, Beatrice. Kim couldn't remember if this Beatrice was Dupont or Langstreth. But he did know it was one of them. Regardless, two members still needed to introduce themselves to the others gathered. Beatrice and that other girl Adlai Rod.. "Would the two who haven't introduced themselves yet please do so?" Kim asked. Once they'd done so, the orange haired teen clapped his hands together to gain their attention. "Once again, welcome to the Golden Explorers Club. If you read the bulletin poster, you'll know this club is designed to let you participate in various activities, all of which are group oriented. The purpose is to learn how to work together as a group and complete tasks together, while having fun as well." Kim paused for a moment. "There are a variety of activities I've written down on slips of paper." He told the members. "We will be doing all of them at some point in time. But it is not a complete list. If you happen to come up with an idea to add to the activities, I will go over it and if it is feasible, I will add it to the list too." Kim picked up a hat that he'd brought with him that was currently resting on top of the table. It had numerous slips of folded paper inside. "This is the method we will use to select what activity we will be doing for our next meeting." It was a random drawing to make it fair for everyone. "When we have our next meeting, we will do whatever activity we selected at the previous meeting. At the end of that meeting, we will have another drawing to determine the next activity at the next meeting." Kim paused to make sure everyone was following what he was saying to them. There was a lot of information, so it was only natural that some might need some time to process his words. "Ok. Now for the items!" Kim said as he walked back to where he'd left his enchanted backpack... He removed three things. A set of green, white and brown shirts, a large amount of sturdy but fashionable straps and a container. The container was filled with the main badge of the club. Kim opened up the container and held one of the straps up into the air to show everyone. "Please come up one by one and take a shirt, strap + badge. Badges are always attached to the strap and during club time you are expected to wear the strap at all times, so others will know what badges you have obtained." He set the strap down onto the table. "Patches, whenever you get them, are attached to your new shirt somewhere..." "This particular badge should be placed at the very top of your strap as it symbolizes that you are part of the Golden Explorers." Kim told them. "Each time you complete a meeting activity, you will obtain a patch. Once you get 10 patches for the same activity, you will obtain a badge in that category. When you have completed at least 10 of the listed activities and gotten a badge for each, you will be considered a veteran and will gain a special rank in the GE club..." He paused for a moment to let things sink in. "Up until then your rank will be determined based off what year you are." Kim added. The orange haired teen glanced around at the members gathered before him. "Does anyone have any questions? If not, please enjoy the snacks + refreshments. Today's meeting is pretty simple + the only thing I wanted to accomplish was to hand out the things you'll need to be part of the GE Club and explain things to the members. I'll send you an owl later so you can all vote on what area you most want to explore for our next meeting." Kim said with a little nod of his head... |

The Golden Explorers! Daphne had been exploring ever since she was a child, and now that there were badges in the mix she was looking forward to this club. She was rather confident in her skills, and this would more than likely become one of the few things that she'd be competitive about. As she approached the site, she already heard people introducing themselves and Kim talking. Fortunately, she came just in time for introductions, raising her voice so that everyone could hear here. Most of the people here she knew already, so she wasn't exactly shy like before. "I'm Daphne, I'm a first year Hufflepuff and I always wanted to be a girl scout but I never had that chance so this is the next best thing! I'm skilled the most in animal handling and nature in the case that the adventure calls for it. I look forward to exploring with all of you!"
Once Kim was done with his words, she walked forward to take a shirt, strap and badge from him. "Thank you, Kim! As usual, you go all out with these club meetings. You would make a great Prefect." Daphne complimented before going to sit down.

Bailey approached kim with a smile, per usual. Unconsciously she decided not to hug him, partly cause he didn't entirely seem to enjoy it, and partly cause she had food. bailey sat next to kim and set down the tray of peanut butter balls. Puffie squeeked out a greeting to bailey, and hopped over to her. Bailey smiled and giggled as the little puffball nudged her fingers. She was going to pick up the little puffball, or was about to when Kim distracted her. He tisked at her, and reached for her... for my face!?!?!?! bailey's mind went blank as his hand, and also his face, neared hers. he's not gonna... no we're just friends... no what um ahh bailey's mind was turning to mush until she realized he was not gonna kiss her ... right?
He didn't kiss her, he just wiped a smear of chocolate + peanut butter off of her lips. Bailey's face went a tad pink, and her heart was racing. She smiled and dropped her eyes, only looking up when kim answered her earlier question.
"ok... and we have four here, six with us?" bailey counted to confirm those numbers.
Kim then started the meeting, and bailey introduced herself. "hii!! my name is Bailey, bailey glade. Im a third year ravenclaw, and i can be seen around the castle with Kim, or my cat twinkle, but never both. I love nature, and have spent as much time as i can outside for as long as i can remember!"
Bailey smiled when a girl she vagely recognized showed up. she waived to her, inviting her to join them. i need to go up to her.. her name is Beatric, right??? i think i met her last year.... bailey thought, trying hard to remember.
after everyone had finished their introductions, Kim continued the meeting. He explained the ranking and everything, and bailey just had to smile, watching him. It was clear he was passionate about this club, and it made her happy to see that. Daphne mentioned that he would make a good prefect, and bailey smiled. he would make a good prefect... except for his love of mischief and pranks
Bailey cuddled with puffie, waiting for Kim to finish handing things out, and for him to sit down again.
She would eventually take a shirt, strap and badge, after everyone else had gotten one.

She recognized most of the faces but would never have been able to put a name to them until this meeting, so that was a bonus from the get go. There were a couple of faces that were not familiar to her at all and she thought they must be first years. She smiled at everyone and rapidly catalogued names as everyone spoke. She laughed when one of the very first things a boy named Alyn Reed said was that, "he hoped there would be badges too," echoing her thoughts. Well alright. Good to know another like-minded, go getter was in the crowd, and she nodded at him enthusiastically.
When everyone had introduced themselves, Kim stood up and brought out what looked like shirts, a sash of sorts, and a container. Her heart began to race. There appeared to be quite a few shirts, and they all found out they had their choice of white, green, or brown. AngelFyre knew white went with everything, but it would show dust and dirt most easily. Brown would show dust and dirt less easily, and it went with most everything as a nice neutral, but AngelFyre knew as soon as she saw it that she would be choosing the green shirt. Green was her absolute favorite color and it just made her happy.
Then Kim began to explain that what AngelFyre had been thinking of as a sash, Kim was calling a strap, and it was to the strap they would be attaching their badges for each meeting. And when he reached for the container, her heart began to jackhammer a single, repetitive beat within her chest. She closed her eyes and prayed against hope there would be examples of the badges they could expect to try to earn, but she honestly thought there was a better than good chance, because it was Kim after all, that the container held more treats.
She just about jumped out of her seat with joy when the container contents turned out to be not food but the hoped for badges. Even better, they were each leaving the meeting today with one of them. It was the club's main badge, its logo badge of sorts, and Kim wanted them to wear it as the first badge on their straps each time they came to a meeting. Then he explained how they were to wear the badges and patches that they would earn in the future.
A few more housecleaning agenda items were mentioned and then they were released. She quickly got up and moved to where the shirts and straps were and then she reached for the badge. "This is wonderful, Kim. Did you design it yourself?" she marveled as she turned it every which way, admiring it. "Very professional looking. I cannot wait to wear it to the next meeting." Then not wanting to monopolize his time as there were others gathering around to get their items as well, she stepped back and told him she would see him in class.
She waved goodbye to Bailey and to Rita Su and to Aurora, and headed off to her dorm to attach the badge to the strap and try it on with her shirt to get the full effect. She just knew she was going to be feeling like a scout again, and that was a wonderful way to feel.

Colin was late, and he knew it! He'd dawdled around by the lake side after classes, thinking about Clair and their long talk the other day. And also about the duel he and Pax had fought together and the very strange result of him ending up in the hospital wing afterwards. He'd really have to keep and eye on that Hunter Argentum. But now he remembered that he had a club meeting to go to, and it seemed like it would be a very interesting one!
He wasn't quite sure what exactly "Golden Explorers" meant, but it sounded like they were an active club and that suited Colin's need to get out and sniff around all the interesting places that Hogwarts and its surrounds had to offer. And so, grabbing up his satchel he took off for the outdoor club meeting area.
The day had been so lovely! And his daydreams so full of Clair! He wondered if she'd be here, too. Of course, Colin had been roped in by Kim last year. That boy knew how to plan and run an organisation! He wondered if Sophia would be here! She wasn't much of an out of doors kind of girl, but she did seem to tag along with Kim everywhere. As he got closer, he could see the group through the trees.
He didn't spot Sophia's recently blue dyed hair, but he did spot Kim and Bailey! Out of all his friends, he wouldn't have been a bit surprised if either of them ended up coming back to Hogwarts to teach. But Colin's eyes settled on a different friend entirely. Her long golden, quintessentially angelic hair set her apart from the rest! She was facing away from Colin and he decided to see if she could see him coming!
"YEEEEE--EEEP!!"
Colin leapt the last few feet! His bare feet landed right behind AngelFyre McCubbin, his best friend of all! He had been in a fantastically improved mood since he saw her last about a week before. She'd helped him through a very tough patch and now he was looking forward to going to the fall ball, even though it wouldn't be with Clair, and even though the full Moon was fast approaching. He was already on his monthly, and while wolfbane was as a treatment probably worse than the actual condition, even that daily dose of nasty couldn't dampen his mood today!
He poked AngelFyre in her ribs and greeted everyone: "Fyre Angel! Ayo Kim! Bailey, everyone!" It looked like he arrived just in time for the meeting to be done! He'd heard that at their next meeting they'd do an activity and also decide what the meeting after that's activity would be! Other than that, Colin was utterly clueless! "What did I miss!? Where are going exploring?"

After everyone was done with self introductions, Kim show the other club members, including Rita herself, the activity list they were going to do during the future club meetings, and then instructed them to take a shirt as well as a badge attached to a strap as a sign they were a number of the golden explorers club, in a bag full of those shirts and badges. Kim also told them they would earn a badge everytime they came to a meeting, and they would have something like a special rank when they got 10 or 100 badges. "Honestly, that sounds like those muggle boy or girl scouts I used to attend when I was a little girl prior to attending Hogwarts! Maybe this Golden Explorers`s club is just the Hogwarts version of the girls scouts! Very interesting and I can already see myself wearing quite a number of badges pinned on my chest! Now I`m really excited for the next meeting!" The black-haired Second Year Hufflepuff beater thought before walking up to Kim and taking one of those badges.
So, after a few people had walked up to Kim and taken one of those shirts and badges, Rita also walked up to that bag full of shirts and badges and did the same thing as other club members, The Second Year Hufflepuff first-string beater with short straight black hair and yellow glasses took a a badge, hold it carefully in her hand, and gave it a closer look, "Oh, thanks Kim for the shirts and badges! Those badges are so beautifully made! Do you make them all by yourself? I will also remember to bring it to the meeting and attach it to my clothes!" Rita then tied the beautifully made badges using the strip, and carefully put it on her clothes, then waited for Kim and other club members to react to those badges and shirts, then waited for Kim to announce the next moves.

The meeting started, Kayla sat rather quietly while she listened to Kim speak.
It was always kind of mesmerising, watching Kim speak during club meetings. He talked so easily with such confidence, it was kind of intimidating- but in a good way if that makes sense. But that was how she would describe Kim to anyone who asked. He was a great leader along with Bailey, together those two defiantly made one heck of a team.
Kim then produced shirts, sashes and a container before explaining everyone should come up one by one, to collect the items he brought out. Soon after most people had taken the shirt, badge and sash, Kayla took one herself and examined it. The badge was really the pride of the whole attire, Kayla was glad that she joined the club. Both AF and Rita were asking if Kim made the badges himself. Soon another member joined them, though. It was Colin. Kayla didn't know him that well, but he seemed like a very enthusiastic person.Reducio
