Sunny can be spotted most often in the dining hall, where he wolfs everything within arms reach into his mouth so fast that it's as if he's afraid it's going out of style. Sunny loves runny eggs. One time, his egg fell on the floor and he still ate it. Sunny pretends that he's good at homework and getting good grades but we all know that's only because he uses all his social time reading books. No one has ever once seen him in the library. Rumor has it, he frequently falls asleep on his books. Don't accept a used book from Sunny, it will have drool cooties all over it.

The owl had come an hour ago with a new note from his new friend, Cassie. Cassie, the girl. Cassie, the attractive, chatty one. The butterflies in his stomach had become agitated and fluttery when the note had arrived, so he'd set it aside and thanked the owl, and then it had flown off back to the owlery, presumably to take a well-deserved nap. Sunny wished he could take a well-deserved nap. He honestly could, but between pointedly ignoring the letter and trying to work through a piece of homework, his anxieties were sky high and trying to sleep now would just be an exercise in mental torture.

Seeing her nephew struggle, it was then that Aunt Bee suggested that Sunny catch up with some of his friends in England, except he hadn't made many and they were busy. Aunt Bee suggested that Sunny catch up with his new Hogwarts friends who would also be on break, probably also in England.
Visiting his bunkmate's house, Leo Katz, Sunny was invited over to spend the night playing video games, watching movies, and eating snacks. After a while, Sunny spotted Leo using a button where he couldn't see it, at the bottom of the controller. After flipping his over, he understood how to use the hidden shoot button.
After Leo spotted Sunny learning from this, Leo put his controller down and just began to watch Sunny in fascination, finding his learning far more entertaining than the video game itself. On winter break, Sunny had been told to get out of the house and to go have an adventure. A bus and a walk later, Sunny had found a thick of trees to explore, where he skipped rocks, booped frogs (some bit him back), and collected branches.
While investigating what Sunny thought was a firefly, he tripped and fell. When he looked to see why he had tripped, he half expected his shoelaces to be untied, but instead, what he found was a thin, rust-colored metal wire caught on a tree. No, not caught. A little hook had been fashioned, and the wire continued into the distance. Sunny followed it. The wire went through bushes, trees, over streams, and at last emerged out of the thicket and towards a small, homely cottage. Curious about the wire, Sunny knocked on the front door of the cottage.
An old woman answered kindly, offering home remedies. Sunny supposed she did this all the time. He asked about the wire. The woman explained that her grandchild, Timothee, lived with her, and that his mother had passed away and his father had to work, and the wire was a radio wire to communicate through a little radio set with his father. Sunny could see Timothee sleeping in a chair, a book fallen out of his lap, who looked about his own age, but very thin, tired, and frail.
Sunny tried to think of something he could do to help Timothee feel better, but he hadn't brought his wand, didnt know what was wrong, or which spell would fix it. So, he asked the grandmother if anything could be done for him. She explained that Timothee admired fireflies, and gave him an empty jar and a sweet.
Sunny went back to the forest, determined to catch some fireflies, thinking about how easy it would be with an Accio spell, but he hadn't brought his wand. An hour went by and he'd only caught two insects. The sun began to set. The forest began to glow with tiny little floating lights. Fireflies! In another hour, he had caught two dozen.
Sunny went back to the house and knocked on the door. A boy peeked out, looking tired and seeming to struggle just to keep himself upright. Sunny presented the jar to the child.
"Hi Timothee, I'm Sunny. I heard you like fireflies. These are for you. I hope you get to talk to your dad soon."
"Thank you,", the child said. Then, "I'll talk to my dad tonight! Thanks again,", the boy wished his new friend, Sunny, goodbye and invited him to come another time.

Sunny had been thinking about joining a sports team, because it felt like it might be an easy way to be around lots of friends all at the same time, instead of one friend at a time, so that he would have more time for homework and reading for school. But he worried about what he would be able to bring back home with him. If he was at a muggle school, he wouldn't be able to play quiddich - just imagining a bunch of humans seeing a magical human zip around on a broom caused him heart palpitations -, so it felt like learning that particular sport might all be for nothing, though it did sound very fun. If he joined a sport everyone had, he would be able to play with his new sister, at the university he went to, with the neighborhood boys, and at Hogwarts, too. At Hogwarts, there might be a few more magical rules, but that was understandable.
Sunny though about maybe Football (Americans called it Soccer), where you kicked the ball around. But he already knew that one. He wanted something outdoors. Something exciting. Something that challenged him.
Glancing around to make sure that no one was watching, Sunny stripped off his jacket and shirt, and his shoes, socks, and pants, so that he just had his swimming trunks and swimming goggles on. He hesitated on the edge of the boathouse docks, then arched his hands over his head, and plunged in. He had meant to elegantly swan dive, but ended up with more of a belly-flop, which stung. As soon as he hit the water, his skin shrunk several sizes, and he felt real fear. Inside the fear, he grasped strongly his inner instincts, and began kicking his arms and legs.
Swimming, he was swimming. He brought his head up for breath, and sputtered when he breathed in a small splash, then began to swim some more. When he sidled back up to the boathouse dock and dragged his body out of the water and into a towel, he felt more exhausted than he'd been in years. He checked his watch. Ten minutes. He'd only swam for ten minutes and he was so tired. His arms and legs were sore, his lungs were sore, even his heart felt sore, somehow. He was sore in places he'd never thought of existing before, like his shoulders and neck.
He lowered himself onto the dock, wrapped in a towel, as he rested for a few moments. When he was ready, he tip-toed (the docks were cold!) to the boys changing room and got back in normal clothes. By that time he was ravenously hungry.
If he wanted to join the swim team at Hogwarts, he'd need to do that every day. He'd need to build himself up to practicing for two or three times that length. Build up his muscles. Build up his tolerance for the cold water. Figure out how to take good breaths that didn't get splashes in his mouth.

It was very hard for Sunny to name a favorite food, because he liked food, almost all food. But fish sauce wings were one of his favorites when he was feeling down or missing home. It was a simple dish and there was a beauty in simple things. His mother usually fried things, and he did like the wings fried, but Aunt Bee had an air fryer and that was easier and faster and far less messy.
He liked it when you bit into a hot, steamy wing and had the outside crunch of the crispy skin. He liked the subtle salty flavor of the fish sauce that always had a complex flavor at the end that was difficult to put a finger on. He liked it when you bit into a wing part, the flat, and you had to use your jaw to clench the one bone that you had and to pull it away from the other bone, where you could strip the bone you had and then eat the second wing bone. He liked wings. He liked simple things. He liked food.
1. Put the fish sauce in a ziplock bag with the wings arranged in a single layer. Marinade for 15 minutes, then flip the bag so the wings are on the other side now in a single layer and marinade for another 15 minutes.
2. Working one wing at a time, pat away sauce and sprinkle the rice flower over it. Sprinkle the ground pepper. It's best if you use a sifter, to get an even layer. Place the wings in the air fryer.
3. Air fry at 360 F degrees for 24 minutes, flipping in the middle.

| 1 lb chicken wing flats (wingettes) 3 tbsp fish sauce 1/2 tsp ground pepper (preferably white) 1/4 c. rice flour (*) (*) You can substitute other types of flour |

OWL PESTS
Phylum: Insect
Owl Pests are small, magical insects. When hungry, they have a long, sharp, needle-like probiscus that they use to suck the blood from owls. When the Owl is carrying a letter, they absorb the essence of the letter as a color mood (blue for calm, red for angry etc), which emanates from their posterior as a glowing light, which is beautiful to look at during the night. Their proboscis is very fragile and falls off after feeding, usually lodging in the victim's feather like a stinger. This is an evolutionary design to prevent them from gorging themselves past capacity. After loosing their proboscis, they start to grow a new one, which becomes fully formed right at the time the insect needs to feed again. Female Owl Pests seem to prefer the male Owl Pests who have gorged themselves on a letter and glow a pretty color, possibly demonstrating discernment in hunting and ability to provide for young.

MAGICAL COTTON CANDY POPS
Class: Edible
Magical Cotton Candy Pops look and have the mouth-feel of cotton candy but are long-lasting, like a lollipop. The stick is also edible, with a cookie-crunch feel. These candies are usually displayed in a vast array to showcase their many colors and flavors. They contain food-preservation magic that does not require wrappers. They are a fan-favorite at magical infirmaries because they are charmed to nudge the eater into a calm mood, terrific for a fussy infant who does not want their vaccines.

I used some paper I had (the white paper was once used as a place to test colors for another project) and cut it out with scissors and then scanned it. Some of it has tape behind it so it sort of pops out but the printer weighs it down and removes the pop-up effect

Mango Sticky Rice

INGREDIENTS

INSTRUCTIONS
1. Place 1 cup rice in rice cooker with usual amount of water. Add 1/2 the can of coconut milk. Add 1 tbsp brown sugar. Cook in rice cooker. If only a small amount of liquid remains, it's ok to remove rice earlier than rice cooker timer.
2. Peel and chop mango into bite sized pieces.
3. In a saucepan, warm but do not boil 3 tbsp brown sugar with the other 1/2 can of coconut milk, so that it all melts and is a liquid.
4. Assemble. Place a scoop of rice with some mango. Pour a generous amount of sauce.
