-due to her change of her guardians, amaris’ personality had also greatly changed. during her time in cuba, she was carefree and happy, extremely agreeable. she had a great number of friends in cuba and well known in her community.

however, when the knights moved to england, amaris felt like an absolute outsider. she was almost the complete opposite when compared to the other rich, aristocratic girls her age. she had been laughed at by others for being different, making her doubt and hate herself. she became withdrawn, making herself extremely scarce and ceasing communication with most people, even her friends back in cuba.

things only became worse when harold became amaris’ official guardian. he was not protective, unlike her parents, who always wished the best for her. harold did not care if amaris was suffering. to escape him, amaris had picked up a new hobby: reading. for her, it was a pleasant escape from harold and her cousin’s bullying. she would spend every moment of her free time with a good book. during her time in her uncle’s mansion, amaris never felt safe and was almost always on edge.

however, as she started to become part of their community, she normally does not feel this way any longer. she also learnt to be more respectful, and have better mannerisms, through etiquette classes. most of all, she wasn’t as naive anymore, and started to think more carefully before taking risks. she was becoming more mature, and learnt to take responsibility for her mistakes.

amaris has always prided herself for her beauty. indeed, she has always been considered beautiful, with lush chocolate hair and dark brown eyes that matched in colour. her skin was smooth and soft, making her cuban friends jealous of her, but was ridiculed by her white cousins. she loves wearing pretty clothing, always making sure that she is cleaned and physically at her best.-

amaris knight was born to a cuban wizardry journalist alyssa (nee de le cruz) and the english aristocrat robert knight on the last minute of the last hour of the last day of the last month. having been shunned by the other members of the knight family for being ‘not aristocratic enough’, due to robert’s marriage to alyssa, the couple decided to raise their only child with a different approach.

amaris grew up on the shores of cuba, carefree. she was permitted to do anything she liked under the one condition of safety, the contrary to how the knight family used to raise their children. she was a free child, a wild child, and unaware of magic. her parents had chosen to keep this a secret to spare amaris of the pressure and danger that coincides with it. her parents made sure that amaris’ childhood was joyful and free of the stress of adulthood. amaris went to a public school and was a popular and even esteemed student there, because of her high grades and talent at sports. if she experienced any problems during her schooling, her would seek help from her maternal grandmother, elisa du le cruz.

ultimately, the knights decided to move back to london, robert’s home, for a chance for amaris to get into hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry. amaris had to learn new customs and cultures and social norms. for this reason, amaris had often felt out of place and in danger when she in london. she was lonely, without any friends and constantly feeling afraid for being so close to the other knight family members.

unfortunately, the knights had failed at keeping magic a secret from their daughter. at the age of eight, she experienced her first incident of accidental magic. ironically, it was related to magic. amaris had overheard her parents discuss magic and their daughter’s future. when they refused to explain their conversation to a amaris, fire surrounded her as if it was the anger itself. she was unscathed, but her parents realised it was too late. their daughter would have to be educated on magic. for that reason, alyssa took over the duties of educating her child, teaching her basic knowledge about magic in preparation for her hogwarts training.

and she was in danger. alyssa had disappeared mysteriously. alyssa had been (kidnapped) taken away by harold knight, robert’s brother and the leader of the knight house. harold had kidnapped alyssa because he (wrongly) believed her to be a bad influence on her niece amaris and brother robert. this was also after an argument with his brother concerning the matter of amaris' education. he had lost, and so wish for robert to suffer as much as possible. harold refused to believe that a future heiress of the knight house would be raised in this way. harold asked for amaris to be raised with him, in exchange for delivering alyssa back to robert. he felt that he could provide a better education for amaris, to make her better fit to handle part of the knight fortune, and not follow the path of her father, which harold looked down upon.

in the end, robert was just as cowardly as everyone else, despite being the proud gryffindor he was, as he had allowed for harold to raise amaris instead. therefore, at the age of ten, harold became the official guardian of amaris.

despite being given the privileges of being raised by her wealthy uncle, amaris was unhappy at first during her time with harold. he had tried to make her ‘pure’. however, her cousins actively shunned her for not being aristocratic enough. she saw her parents every day, but interaction was limited. her uncle asked his private tutors to teach amaris, who only educated her in magic, a subject she was still a bit unfamiliar with. for this reason, they would often get frustrated, and amaris would be a laughing stock for her cousins.

still, harold tried to seem ‘like a parent’, mainly because he hoped that amaris would see him as a role model (of course, amaris does not). he treated amaris as if she was a poor child who just needed help. he even had sorry feelings for her, because she did not experience the privileges of an aristocratic family or magic. in the end, harold believed that he was doing good for amaris, as he felt alyssa and robert were not raising amaris properly.

amaris soon learnt to feel more at ease in her uncle’s household. as she was more integrated into their little community, her cousins began to see her more as an equal. teasing was still present, but there were almost no forms of bullying. amaris started to accept her life with her uncle. she started to like she wasn’t an outsider anymore.

she even made a friend in the knight household: elspeth knight. elspeth was around the same age as amaris, just one year older, and one of harold’s most beloved daughter. elspeth had never teased or bullied amaris, even during her first days at harold’s mansion. on the contrary, she had tried to stand up to those who bullied amaris, and even told harold multiple times about this problem. in the end, she was the one who helped amaris become part of their community. they were classmates, playmates, and best friends.

at first, alyssa and robert were weary of their daughter’s wellbeing, and were even planning to get amaris back. however, every time they visited, something would more and more noticeable — their daughter’s ease. they soon felt as if amaris was in a place more like a boarding school than a ‘prison’. after consulting with their daughter, they found out that she was having a relatively good time there. after moving to england, she was always lonely, and this was she first chance to step out and make friends. alyssa and robert were able to have amaris back home during to holidays, and they were glad to hear that she was developing a good relationship with elspeth.
