Musicaians Corner Club Meeting #2

Lily headed to the rehearsal room, carrying her violin case her dad had bought her. She loved music so much because it was beautiful. Looking at her watch, she realized she was going to be late. What a great start, she thought to herself. She arrived just in time for Charlie Jacobsen to explain what they were going to do. She say down next to her cousin, Colin McCoire, and looked around. She saw Bailey Glade and Kim Aoki, whom she shared a lot of clubs with.
She listened as everyone told why they loved music. When it came to her turn she smiled and said, " I'm Lily Brown, a gryffindor first-year and I play the violin. I like music because I love how it brings everyone together no matter their differences to make one beautiful piece," She opened her folder and looked down at the sheet of music, studying it. Lily was always very good at music, especially the violin. And when she found out Colin knew how to play the fiddle that just added to her excitement. Colin and her had always been very close and shared a lot of hobbies together. It was one of the reasons Lily had decided to join this club.

────────────────────────────────Alright. It was my time to direct the music. I had not been ready. The anxiety rose in my body as I stepped on the podium. “Deck the halls everyone. Remember this is sight reading. If you make a mistake there is no issue with that. We will just keep on going. No matter what.” I cringed at myself for turning into an inspirational speaker and continued on. “Lets start at measure one, shall we?” I said. “Ok. I’m going to turn this metronome on to help us stay on beat. Lets do this!”DISCLAIMER: any mistakes I IC say your character made were all IC. I have nothing against you ooc, just needed some mistakes that happened during the songs.
I turned on the metronome and off we went. I did not have the melody, so to help out I played way softer. I was on the sax and had a accompaniment part. We made it through, with some struggles. “Alright y'all, we made it through, yes we had some struggles but we made it through!” Crap. That was horrible. “First change. Billy. I love it. But it’s taking over the melody and that NEEDS to be the loudest part.” I didn't want to tell anyone about their mistakes. But we needed to get better. “Percussionists. You all got off beat, but only one beat behind. It was messing up the other singers. If you have to you can yell out one- AND two- AND three- AND four- AND. Over and over and over. Final mistake that was obvious, was Bailey. And Kim. You two are the melody. You need to be on beat and LOUD. Kim, I will turn up your mic a bit, but you still need to be loud.” I turned up the mic and we continued on.
Second song. I’ll be home for Christmas. “Ok. Second song. I have no idea why this was the selection, but whatever.” I arranged my music, realizing i’d be on sax for all three songs. Might as well add a little drum to this one! I thought, knowing this would be a bad idea.
“Ok. Ill be on drums for this one,” I said as I turned Kim’s mic back to normal. I plopped down on the stool and off we went. This one went better than the last song, but it still needed some improvement.
“Alright. That was good, but it could use some improvement. I think, no drums.” I said as I stepped away from the drum kit. I grabbed my sax and hopped back up. “Lets try that one more time.”
We went a few more times, before the song was great. Not perfect but pretty good. “All right everyone, how about we take a quick break before the next song.”

Musicaians Corner Club Meeting #2
@Charlie JacobsenCharlie finally stepped up to the podium. I rested my instrument in a ready position and listened to Charlie explain that we were going to play deck the halls. I noticed how nervous she looked and looked through my music, noting what key were in, what the notes were, where accidentals were and the dynamics. She said it was just a sight reading, but I was not going to be the one to mess this up. She turned on the metronome and we began playing. Even from my music wrapped focus, I could tell that we sounded trashy. I could tell Charlie felt the same when I took a moment to glance at her. When we wrapped up, she was quick to point out the mistakes we had made. I was surprised, because some of them even I didn’t catch, but they made sense when I thought about what we had played.
It was time for the second song, I’ll be home for Christmas. We played trough it, and Charlie was on drums this time. We played it, and it was better than the last time, but still not what it should’ve sounded like. I could tell Charlie looked about ready to rake a hand across her face and take a nap. I gave her a weak smile as she told us to try again.
We went through it a few times, until Charlie told us to take a break. I set my clarinet down and walked over to her. “You good? I can take over if you want.” Charlie looked like she needed a break. It was probably so stressful being the leader of a club, especially since everyone was counting on her, including the older years. I wondered how she had even been able to become the leader of the club.

Kim introduced himself, and bailey smiled softly as he talked about his love of music, or why he liked it.
bailey made a mental note about Kim's mentions of composing music. i didn't know that he wrote music.... or lyrics, or anything!! we should talk more about him sometime
when they were together, they usually ended talking about school or bailey; kim was a very private person, but bailey was hoping that since she was his best friend that he'd trust her enough to share.
the meeting started, with site reading. Bailey was great at site reading, but her dynamics were usually her struggle. Bailey winced a little when Charlie pointed out that she and kim were the melody, and had been louder. Bailey tended to play softer till she was sure of herself, but nodded and inwardly vowed to do better the next time.
then it was time for a break, after another song. Bailey was still sitting on the piano bench, and took a drink of water.
she tugged down the hem of her jeans- they were short on her, she had grown that summer and had not sent home for longer ones.
maybe these are hemmed and i can lengthen them.. i know grandmother did shorten some of my pants - maybe these are some of them!! bailey thought.
She tried to catch Kim's eye, and would smile at him if he ever looked her way.

➵Sight reading. Admittedly, he didn’t do much sight reading. He did that for songs he was learning the first time, but he would always commit them to memory very quickly, allowing him to do it without the reading. That said, he had little issue actually doing it. He was a fast learner.
At the club leader’s instructions, he made sure it was open to the right page. Any minute now…
The metronome was on. Gavin tried to keep up with the pace. He hit most of the notes, but… even if he hadn’t, he was playing just a bit too fast. He kept landing himself a note or two ahead of the rest, his fingers moving too fast for his brain to register, losing the metronome’s rhythm. A frown worked it’s way onto his face even as they kept playing. Seriously? I thought I was getting better at my pacing, he scolded.
“You’re better than this, Gav,” he muttered to himself.
Charlie passed her judgement. He absorbed the information she was saying, but didn’t say anything. It wasn’t his place. He wasn’t a club leader, not even close.
Get your pacing right. That voice sounded suspiciously like Andy. It made sense, considering that the older boy had taught him how to play in the first place. His pacing was better this time. Maybe not perfect, but really, he just wanted to get close enough.
They got on to the next song eventually. Another Christmas song. Gavin didn’t really get the Christmas craze, but it was December, he supposed. Early December, but December non-the-less.
By the time their improvement was considered good enough, the first year girl called for a break. The blonde boy was more than happy to comply, leaning back and stretching his fingers out. He just wanted to stretch out on the bench like a cat, but he didn’t really want to do that in a room full of people he was less than familiar with. It almost made him shudder to think about.➵interacting w/ no one in particular

| ─── | Ah there was one of them.
Lily Brown made her entrance. Aurora and Colin still had to introduce themselves but eventually they did. Once Charlie got their attention afterward, Kim listened as she explained how things were going to go. He nodded, knowing it took a lot to ensure a group ran smoothly and hoped she would be able to handle anything that came her way. As the group started to do its first practice, Kim couldn't help but wonder how long it would take before they began to sound good. They were... well, anything but good... although they weren't really that bad. So he supposed that could be looked at as a win. Right? It would take a lot of time..... After all, they hadn't ever played or sang together before. Practice made perfect and no one got it directly off the bat, unless the entire group were geniuses. And obviously that was not the case here. But that was completely fine! A normal person would make mistakes. Even Kim made mistakes, as he didn't consider himself to be perfect or even close to perfection. He wanted to be treated like a normal average person, instead of someone with advantages such as his family name or his good looks. This was seeming to do that... As a result, Kim was happy about being part of this club. It seemed as if it would be a decent club and he had hopes that everyone would be able to learn and grow. Charlie spoke to each of the members of the group, or rather each section, telling them what they should try and fix on their own. Kim nodded when she mentioned they needed to be on beat and louder than before. He'd sang at a decent volume but the mic hadn't really picked it up that much. Which made him wonder if he'd gotten a defective one. His voice had seemed a bit lower than he was used to. Charlie turned his mic up and Kim glanced down at the other singers with him. This time he'd adjust to them and match their beat, so if they were off-beat they would be off-beat together. Which still wasn't a good thing but at least they would be in sync with eachother. Kim continued to sing, the mic fluctuating a little bit but he did the best he could. Next time he'd have to come early and test out the mics to make sure they were fine. This one was obviously flawed, perhaps it had been an old one that hadn't been taken care of too well. The second song started and Kim did his best to make their voices come out strong, loud and steady. This time went way better than the first one. Well, for the singers at least. After the song ended, Charlie told them to take a short break before finishing up with the last one. Kim nodded and headed to where he'd left his satchel with the pink puffball.... Puffie squeaked as he saw Kim coming to him. The pink puffball was sitting on top of the satchel and watching the events from his current location. Poor thing didn't seem to have liked the dissonance sounds from before but they hadn't been bad enough for him to complain much. So that was a good thing in Kim's mind. He leaned down to affectionately scratch Puffie's head and then took out a thermos that had been filled with cold water. Yes, he'd started to carry one around, just like Bailey. He'd gotten the idea from her. Kim's was a plain silver and black one but he liked those colors. Moving over to pick up an oatmeal raisin cookie that Bailey had brought, he bit into it, chewing. Not bad. Kim picked up one of the mini ham and cheese croissants and a chocolate one that he'd brought, and devoured them all. Hopefully, others would like them too. Picking up a napkin, he made sure no crumbs fell anywhere. But even if they did, he'd use a spell to clean it up anyway afterward. Kim glanced around the room and let his blue eyes flicker over the setup. It was a pretty decent one. Charlie seemed to have put some thought into how she wanted things. He placed the thermos back into his satchel for safekeeping + later use. It was then that he spotted Bailey. She hadn't gotten anything to eat yet and there were no drinks available that he could see as of right now. Finishing off his cookie, Kim went over to where Bailey was, still sitting on her piano bench, and broke off a tidbit of his chocolate croissant. The greenhead boy lightly tapped her right shoulder. When she turned, Kim's free hand stretched out and a finger tipped Bailey's chin upward. "Open your mouth." He told her, his voice smooth as caramel. When she did, Kim would slip the tidbit of chocolate croissant inside and a faint smile would play around the corners of his lips. "Tasty?" He asked, wondering what Bailey thought of the treat he'd brought with him. As usual, Kim was unaware of how this might look to others and also how Bailey might react to his actions. To him, he was just being nice, feeding a friend now..... |

Musicaians Corner Club Meeting #2
After a few more people finished their entrance to the rehearsal room and the introduction, the group of musicians began to practice the songs pre-arranged by the club leader, Charlie. Since it was early December, it was understandable that the first two songs are Christmas songs. Rita returned to the piano bench and began to move her fingers and hit the notes as the other club members also began to play the songs. Some of the club members made some mistakes and Charlie did not hesitate to pick the mistakes out.
"It seems that the two Christmas songs are not too difficult... But I have to admit it is easy to make some mistakes... I just hope I can do better and do not make a lot of mistakes like some of the other club members... Anyway, I should concentrate on the piano, so I do not make a lot of mistakes! You can do this, Rita! Just concentrate on the notes!" Rita thought as the Second Year Hufflepuff tried her best to concentrate on the song and on the notes to avoid making some mistakes. She just hoped that her efforts would pay off and the songs would at least sound better than the last time with less mistakes. The Hufflepuff with short black hair silently prayed, hoping Charlie would be more pleased with the results this time rather than always picking up the mistakes made by the club members.

────────────────────────────────I was glad it was break time. I went over to Ava. “Hey. Could you help me on this one? We honestly need as much clarinet and sax in this as we can because this is written for a concert band… not whatever we have.” I told her. “I also need help on the podium. And on the feedback.” I added. “Please?”DISCLAIMER: any mistakes I IC say your character made were all IC. I have nothing against you ooc, just needed some mistakes that happened during the songs.
After break, I headed back up to the podium. It was time for the final song. “Alright everyone. Final song. Hobbit dance. All wind instruments need to play as loud as they can. It really… adds to the piece. Lets do this.” I counted off, and off we went. There were a few mistakes. Pianos too loud. The singers had nothing to do. They could handle a simple percussion part… right? “Alright, singers, sorry, I forgot to give you a part. You can pick out any of the left over percussion parts. Any ones.” Then, Ava gave some feedback.
We went again. It was better. But not perfect. “Alright everyone.” I said. “I thing we are doing pretty good. You could practice these on your own. If you want. Thanks for coming everyone! I will send out owls whenever I decide to have our next meeting.” I said, glad it was over. Even with Ava’s help, it was very hard for me.────────────────────────────────

Musicaians Corner Club Meeting #2
It was time to practice the songs, once again. There were still a few mistakes, but it seemed to be better than the last round. Even Rita herself made a few mistakes with her skills on the notes even though the Second Year Hufflepuff beater with short straight black hair was trying her absolute best not to make any mistakes. Charlie instructed the members of the club to play their instruments louder for the last song, but it seemed that the instruments was getting too loud. Again, Charlie did not seem to be satisfied, but the leader of the club decided it was the end of the Musicians Corner club meeting and thanked everyone for coming. The Ravenclaw club leader with short black hair tied up in the back also added that the club members could play the songs on their own if they want, and she would sent owls for the next meeting.
"Well, the song Charlie picked are interesting to play, and it is also quite relaxing to play music together. I would definitely practice those songs more later since I still made plenty of mistakes. Anyway, it seems that Charlie is quite good new club leader for the Musicians Corner club, and hope to see what the Ravenclaw club leader is going to do in our next meeting!" The black-haired Second Year Hufflepuff beater thought, before waving goodbye to other team members, "I think I am good to go now! It is nice meeting all for you and practicing the three songs with you all! See you all later, have a nice day!" After waving goodbye to the group, the Second Year Hufflepuff first-string beater left the rehearsal room for dinner and spending some time in the Hufflepuff common room. There were quite a few mistakes being made during the songs practice of the club members, but after all, it was still quite nice practicing music with the rest of the club members.

Break time, finally. I grabbed my case and grabbed a new reed to replace the old one with. I was sucking on the new reed when Charlie came over. She looked desperately to me, and I wondered why until she asked for my help. “Hey. Could you help me on this one? We honestly need as much clarinet and sax in this as we can because this is written for a concert band… not whatever we have.” I looked at her, knowing what she meant. We had all of us playing in the orchestra, but she had forgotten we had singers among us. “I also need help on the podium. And on the feedback.” I considered her offer. I was only a first year, and I wasn’t sure if I wanted to be this involved in a club. But she did seem like she needed help. And I could give feedback. “Please?” That was what got me. I could see how nervous she was, leading a club with older kids in it, and only being a first year. She wanted—and needed—a close friends help.
“Fine. But only if you rename my title as ‘deputy clarinet ear-destroyer’.” I added with a wink. If she agreed, my official title would be ‘deputy clarinet ear-destroyer’ and that would be pretty awesome. I looked at her and waited for her response.
We ran through hobbit dance once more. And once we were done I made a few rounds around the room. Charlie had put the vocalists on some percussion instruments, and lucky for them I knew I few tricks for percussion. I walked over to Kim, who was on bell kit and looked at his part. “You see how it says to slur? I know it’s difficult to actually slur, but here’s a way you can do it.” I demonstrated that with one hand you started on the first note and with the other hand you started playing the other note so the sound blended together for a moment, and then you stopped playing the first note. I made my rounds over to Aurora Griffith—or that’s what I thought that her name was—a flute player. “You see this half note note? Can you crescendo it up to a forte then drop back down to a piano on this quarter note?” I gestured for her to show me what she had. I gave a nod of approval and moved on. There was only one more piece I had noticed that needed to be addressed. Gavin Faulkner, playing on a snare pad. It was a simple tapping beat, and somehow he had gotten off beat. It was an easy mistake, but one that needed to be fixed. “Repeat after me. One AND two AND three AND four AND one AND two…”
The meeting seemed to be coming to an end, and I made a move towards Charlie, knowing she would need something to cheer her up after her first meeting as club leader. “Charlie! Great job! Want to go for a walk outside?” Fresh air to clear our head would be needed after how stressful this must have been.xtg
