It was January, so the insides of the duelling club and its spectator area were a nice change to the freezing cold that spectators of both Quidditch and Broom Racing would have to endure around this time of year. Inside it was comfortable and cozy, though there was definitely the excitement in the atmosphere. The second stage of duelling would be happening and many students were there to witness it as they whispered about the possibilities and outcomes of certain matches. Bets were made and the best possible opening strategies were being discussed. All in all students were crowding the space in smaller and bigger groups as they peered at the duelling stages. The second stage was often the one that allowed for more certain predictions about who would win the duelling cup and that usually was what also drew the attention of the Hogwarts Headliner into the room, though many of the writers also were duellists themselves.

This would mark the first day of the duelling stage, a nice Saturday. The time slots were conveniently placed between meal times and gave enough time for the early risers and those who preferred a quiet evening. Now all that was left was to see which pairs would manage to be victorious...

This was perfect. Eun-ji wouln’t have dared to come spectate this match under different circumstances but since it was one of the Ravenclaw matches as well, she allowed herself to go. Sure, standing on the piste were the two girls she managed to hurt rather badly in the past but she was simply here to observe how her house was doing, right? Nobody needed to know that in fact, she was here to watch Lucia. she was here to watch Lucia because she missed her dearly.

When the two friends were still on good terms, Eun-ji never managed to witness her duelling skills. Either she was too busy or their time slots clashed. Of course, the first time the timing actually worked for her would be when they weren’t on speaking terms anymore. At least Sam and her had been coexisting in peace now. The younger girl was her captain and it had been a year since Eun-ji harshly drew the line between them during the school ball. She was right however, when she told Sam she’d be fine without her and should find better people to keep her company. It was clear Eun-ji was not needed after all. The third year was doing well on her own and it seemed she even found herself a little crush. The witch was truly happy for her, only hoping the boy wouldn’t hurt her like she did. People could be awfully cruel, Eun-ji herself was a living proof of that.

The Ravenclaw usually liked to come on time or few minutes in advance but today, she arrived just as the duel was starting. She was a coward and didn’t want to be spotted. After all, Lucia did nothing wrong. It was all her. She was the one, who cut ties with the other girl so her presence here was honestly outrageous. How shameless of her to show up after everything she said to her. What if it made Lucia uncomfortable? It probably would, wouldn’t it? The witch barely stopped herself from sighing. She might not even notice and if she does I can just leave. Eun-ji wanted to be nonchalant about all this but truth be told, she didn’t want to leave. It’s been almost three months since they last spoke…she wouldn’t be able to do so today either but in a way, this felt like she was keeping her company. Secretly but still…Secretly was enough for now. She’d take anything at this point. Shameless indeed.

It was Saturday, January 28th, 2023.

The first day of dueling for the season. Everything was chaotic and bustling with stress and nerves.

But for Kim it was just another day that he needed to survive on his own... For once, he'd thought to get some rest the previous day by sleeping in a bit as it was the start of the weekend. Unfortunately, even though he wasn't dueling the following day, three people who considered him to be friends, did have matches. They didn't just have matches but they had them in the early morning bracket... Kim was under no obligation to go see and support them during their matches but one of them happened to be a childhood friend of his. Gia.

He couldn't miss her match. Kim hadn't ever missed any of her matches. He'd even gone to her very first official match. And if he was going to see Gia, he might as well support the other two at the same time. Precious he hadn't seen in what felt like ages and Galton was someone he respected as a duelist. Kim and Galton had participated in Kim's very first official match, which the two of them had won together. It had been an experience he'd never forget about, as you never tended to forget your first official match + victory...

A yawn escaped his lips.

When he'd woken up it had been cold, despite the heating in the place and he'd worn comfortable clothes.

Kim was currently dressed in a comfortable light tan turtleneck, a long dark brown trenchcoat, and tan slacks. If he'd taken the turtleneck off, a long-sleeved white shirt would be seen beneath. He wasn't wearing any accessories, other than his diamond pride bracelet, because he'd been half-asleep at the time. And no earrings graced his earlobes. Later on that day he'd probably decide on a pair but for now he was earring-less. Puffie had come with him and was sitting on top of his shoulder, peering around and being inquisitive...

The temperature inside was comfortable and cozy but it wasn't stifling hot, so the coldness from outside still seemed to seep through into the castle. But it wasn't bad at all and with the current clothing he wore, Kim was nice and comfy, not lacking for warmth in the least. Upon entering the club, the blue haired teen took a seat that gave him a great view of Match 6 and a decent view of the other two matches. He took out his sketchbook and started to sketch the piste to pass the time until the participants arrived to take their places..

Kim made eye contact with Precious, in Match 1.

A twitch of his lips was seen as he nodded up at the girl who considered him to be one of her friends.

He'd known her for quite some time now. But over the past year things had seemed to fall apart. Ever since... well, Kim wasn't going to think about those things. It would bring up too much pain for him. For now, he was content to simply be there for Gia, Precious and Galton. Kim recognized Hui Ming as one of her opponents and wondered how this match was going to go. The Slytherin was fairly good at this and Precious had never been part of a duel before. Precious looked anxious. "You have this, Precious!" Kim called out.

The duel started and although she did her best, the girl ended up missing her first spell. But that was normal because no one could always hit their target all the time. What mattered most was to keep trying until you got the win. The others fared no better, all of them missing their spells, except for Ming who ended up simply dodging whatever spells tried to come his way. An interesting start to the match. But now, onto the next one! Match 11 was heating up to be a good one. Galton and Meenauh were a really good combination...

He kind of wanted to see more of them.

Perhaps in an unofficial setting to see how they worked when it wasn't official with all the pressure.

Kim nodded to Galton, should the older boy glance over at him, and began to sketch them onto the piste in his sketchbook. All these sketches would be kept by him and placed in his 'treasure chest' back at the dorms. Galton seemed really excited to him and Kim wondered if it was because of who his partner was. Or if it was just the thrill of dueling again. Turning his attention to the main match of the morning, at least that was what he thought of it as, Kim flipped to a fresh page of his sketchbook. Match 6 would be the best one here!

Gia was in it! Kim didn't recognize the two Hufflepuffs. He'd seen them before and knew their names from them being announced but he'd never actually spoken to them. On the other hand, Regina's partner... of all people for her to be paired with... why did it have to be that bloody trickster?! Kim narrowed his eyes at Pierre. Well, at least the trickster's cat wasn't present, or chaos would have erupted within the spectator area. How on earth was she faring with him as her partner?? Kim gave Gia a look of sympathy + a little headshake.

If she looked over at him, Kim would raise a fist into the air.

The action or movement implied that Kim was trying to say 'fighting' to Regina. To not let him bother her.

Pierre as usual seemed to have come up with a new nickname for Regina. Fiorescura. Kim wasn't sure what this one was from but it was rather annoying to have Pierre try to annoy Regina all the time. Why was it her? He itched to go up and smack him. Or use the slipping spell and watch him slip on the floor. But that would be interfering in a match which wouldn't be good for them. Plus, if Regina was really bothered by Pierre, she could take care of him herself just fine. But there was no reason for Kim to stand by the sidelines afterward...

After all, he was a prankster too. He'd even played a prank on Pierre before but was fairly certain the boy didn't realize who had been responsible for it at the time. Kim had come to discover that Pierre was someone who tended to talk a lot, which could become aggravating after a certain point in time. As the participants for Match 6 walked up onto the piste, Kim watched, hoping Pierre wouldn't end up trying to prank Regina during the match. She really would kill him if he did that... if the trickster dared to play with fire, he'd burn.

Most wouldn't even consider doing so.

But for some reason, Kim wouldn't put it past him to do something like that...

Well, this was actually the first time Rita had ever spectated a duel. Dueling just did not feel natural the black-haired Second Year Hufflepuff, she just did not feel natural to cast spells and hurt someone during normal circumstances. Or it was just because the first-string beater had never tried dueling before and did not have much knowledge, if not no knowledge to dueling until his quill pal and housemate, David Howard, who was a duelist before he disappeared from the school for some reason unknown to Rita, introduced the first-string beater to dueling in his letters and told them dueling was definitely fun to watch with the variety of effects on the victim and the environment caused by those different types of spells, the fire, the wind, and many other fascinating effects, at least to the spectator. Afterall, seeing is believing, Dave`s intriguing description of the duel finally brought Rita into dueling, and she had decided to see an official duel herself.

After carefully looked at the name list for all the dueling matches, Rita has chosen the dueling match 7 on the afternoon of Jan 28th since the Second Year Hufflepuff wanted to support Lindsey, the fourth year Hufflepuff girl she had a casual chat with a month ago in the common room while drinking hot chocolate and Lindsey bringing her lovely cat Napoleon. Lindsey seemed to be a quite nice girl the Second Year could be friends with, so the black-haired Hufflepuff decided to cheer for her older year housemate and gain some knowledge about Lindsey`s dueling skills.

Anyway, Rita watched Lindsey casted the wind jinx at a Ravenclaw boy she was facing in the first round that was so close from being perfect, just a tiny tiny mistake. The boy also casted the same jinx, but he even did not cast it in the correct way. Unfortunately for both, no damage was done, but obviously Lindsey did it far better than the other Ravenclaw boy.

Moving on to the second round, it seems that the same Ravenclaw boy had become more concentrated to cast his spells, and unluckily for Lindsey, her knockback jinx had no effect other than crashing into the bubble produced by the other boy to protect himself. And due to the effect of that successful protego spell casted by that Ravenclaw boy, poor Lindsey suffered from the effect of the spell casted by her own teammate and was blindfolded. Rita believed that Lindsey would feel disappointed about the result, and decided to shout out to her older housemate, "You got this, Lindsey! You get excellent skills with your wand and I believe Hufflepuff can win this duel! I`m definitely rooting for you!"

Anyway, just as Dave told her, watching an official duel and rooting for her housemates was definitely an exciting activity for Rita and the Second Year Hufflepuff was glad that she got to spectate this duel. Standing beside the dueling stage, the black-haired Hufflepuff was just longing to know what interesting thing would happen next round and hoping the best for Lindsey.

Bea hadn't actively been looking to come today. Something about still being on the waiting list for said sport, something she supposed she would be on for the longest time, and watching all the participants hadn't sat well with her as the dueling matches commenced. It was why she'd forgone watching the first stage matches. But as the day came, she knew she would for this stage. It was alluring, dueling. To see someone's downfall or rise to the top.

Coming into the Dueling Club, lollies in hand (no one could ever say she wasn't a sweet tooth), she settled for finding a seat in front of Match 1. It was here she knew the most people. Adelaide had been her partner for the practice duel and one of her bunkmates for Summer Camp. This was Addie's first duel officially on the team, and first one as Co-Captain. Bea it her lip, nervous for her. But looking at Adelaide, Bea's worries were appeased. The other girl radiated confidence like a sunbeam. The other known participant of Bea's didn't quite radiate that same energy. Hui-Ming, who had previously been their moderator for the practice duel, who had already been a duelist for some time now and who had just become a co-captain as well, seemed altogether unnerved.

Bea wanted to gather them both and wish them well, but it seemed the duel had already started. Well started enough that Bea couldn't just prance her way up onto the piste, and hug her to known associates in good luck. She snorted to herself at the image. Really. Alan, the moderator would have a heart attack. And probably ban her for life from the Club. No, what would be better was her just cheering from the sidelines. Cupping her hand over her lips, she shouted, "Go Addie! You got this!" And just because she was feeling generous, "Go Hui-Ming! Ravenclaw's still gonna beat ye!" Her piece said, she settled more into the chair, grabbing a few red lollies from the jar and grinned at the match unfolding before her.

If being blindfolded due to the spells casted by her own teammate was already unlucky enough, then what happened to poor Lindsey during the next round was definitely even much worse. "How could dare to the Ravenclaw duelists cast the Incendio Duo and the wind spell at the same time? That was like bullying poor Lindsey, who is already blindfolded due to the spells of her own teammate! Oh, I wish the Ravenclaw duelists would make some mistakes with their spells so poor Lindsey can survive in the game for longer! God bless you, Lindsey, to survive longer in the match." The Second Year Hufflepuff first-string beater thought with some anger about the Ravenclaw duelists focusing on Lindsey, and prayed to God to bless Lindsey to survive further in the match.

Thankfully, Lindsey could finally remove her blindfold in this round, which could definitely help the Second Year Hufflepuff`s older housemate to stay longer in the match and be more concentrated and accurate for her spells, hopefully doing some damage to the eagle`s dueling team as well as a revenge. "You can do this, Lindsey! I know the Ravenclaw duelists are pretty strong and have a high successful rate with their spells, and I am here for you! After all, whatever the result is, you are always a brilliant duelist in my mind! Let`s go, badgers, and crash the eagles!" The black-haired Hufflepuff beater decided to shout out to Lindsey once again to show her support to her older housemate and the whole Hufflepuff team.

Avery had finally made the time to spectate an official duel of the Viridian Vipers, having decided that if he was going to be taking duelling seriously; he should probably get some second-hand experience before he tried his own wand at it. And what better day than the very start of the new season?

As always, he was early to the proceedings; pressing into the room as the set up was still taking place. He was wearing a pair of crimped linen trousers, a perfectly complimenting shirt and a green szip-up sweater to ward off the cold of the castle. Although it was inside, it was still January. He climbed the bleachers and took a bench with height so that he could look across the duelling floor with minimal expended effort.

His eyes trained on Hui-Ming and his partner's duel. Hui-Ming was somebody he recognised from the Merlin dorm, his dorm but the girl he fought alongside wasn't familiar to Avery at all. He wondered if she had the same reputation that Hui-Ming had. Surely that was a good sign...

After a while, the duels began. Avery was watching intently as the students stepped up, bowed and began their showdowns. The air was quickly thick with tension as they cast spells at each other, their wands slicing through the air. Avery's dark eyes were fixed on the movements of the students, their footwork, the swiftness of their spells, and the way they evaded attacks. He felt a rush of excitement and a longing to join in the action.

Again his eyes trained back to the duel with Hui-Ming and Guinevere, naturally. It all seemed to be going well after the first round, a thick fog clouding the Ravens was defintiely something he could cheer for: "Come on Vipers!"

Though as fate would have it, he spoke too soon, and those close to him heard him suck in a breath over his teeth as he watched Hui-Ming's partner take a pair of well placed 'Flipendo' spells. Avery's face twisted into a wince, wondering if this is what was in store for him; after all, he was self-assured that he would make the team one day and that much was written into his features. His eyes moved to the lighter haired Ravenclaw student a short distance from him; was she trying to get into Hui-Ming's head? Avery didn't know if he naturally approved of this tactic, but he came to the conclusion that he probably shouldn't...

Spoken Words: X|Thoughts: X
It was Ashley's dream to join the Ravenclaw house duel team someday, following in the footsteps of those duellists who came before him. It could hardly be denied that he was working tirelessly to prepare himself for the field. The Ravenclaw kid admitted that it was both enjoyable and exhausting, but his devotion served as a pillar of strength, and he determined to persevere in spite of all obstacles.

It appears that Slytherin and Ravenclaw were ready to stake their claims on the day of the Duel Sport. The houses were engaged in a constant rivalry, which became evident when the headmaster had to decide which houses had accumulated the most points. Even during lectures, there was competition for the right response, and occasionally disputes would break out in response to a professor's question. Yet, it was inevitable because two bulls cannot live in the same kraal.

Ashley was interested in who would win the game; he wasn't much of a cheerleader, so whatever happens, happens. Everyone on the field put in a lot of effort. Almost all of the houses came as a group to observe who would emerge victorious between the clever and the wise. Ashley was also on the premises. Ashley would not want to hang out in such a loud, chaotic environment, but he knew that sometimes sacrifices had to be made, and this one certainly went beyond his comfort zone.

"Come on Vipers!"

The Slytherin lad shouted close to Ashley's ear; it bothered him because he disliked loud exaggerators. For goodness' sake, we could all see what was going on. Jinxes, hexes, and light curses were released from the tips of the combatants' wands.
Ashley remained silent and was keenly perceptive; not one to argue, he preferred to observe and learn.

As a typical ravenclaw, his goal in being there was to learn. Ashley actually locked a sharp glare on him as the other Slytherin boy continued to cheer. It was somehow a warning for him to calm down because he is making a lot of noise, which he does not respond well to.

Truly Bea wasn't astonished at the duel. She'd partnered with Adelaide in their unofficial duel against Monica and Pea. Adelaide had been ruthless then and she was now too. Bea bit her lip, smiling slightly as she watched fog envelope the piste and curl around the duellists. It was going to be one of those type of duels. Nasty, unsighted attacks forthcoming. And as Bea watched the Snakes miss both times, the delight that her house was winning curled though her as both Claw girls attacked Guinevere. Bea felt slightly sorry for her, wincing as the Slytherin girl stumbled back. Bea breathed a sigh of relief when none of the attacks hit Hui-Ming though, her fingers curling into the woollen jumper she wore. She didn't know Guinevere, and so it was easier for her to brush the attacks off. But against a friend? Was he a friend, when she'd only had met him once. She didn't know but either way she didn't really want him to get hurt.

As this all transpired, Bea could see two younger boys interested in the duel happening in front of them. One, it seemed was interested in her, side eyeing her with a, what seemed to be, a perplexed expression. Why was he staring at her? What there something on her face? The other boy, a Ravenclaw she could tell, was outright glaring at the other boy. Bea could sense the tension from him across from where she sat, and hoping to diffuse it all before something escalated, she stood up and came to sit closer to the two boys. Scrunching the sleeves of her jumper up, wand poking out just slightly, she turned to the Slytherin boy. "Do ye know her?" Bea nodded towards Guinevere, her own light red curls slightly bouncing out of the bun she had them in. She hoped so. It would be good to know more about the mystery that was Guinevere. Bea also hoped, that with her between the two boys, nothing would start. It wouldn't do well to follow the duellists lead, even if it was with words and not spells.

Smiling slightly, lips curling confidently, she turned towards the other boy, "They're not goin' to win, don't ye worry. Addie and Gem know what they're doin'," although the rest of the comment finished with a slight pause, "Although Hui-Ming's a good duellist too. So..." She shrugged. Bea knew that Hui-Ming and Guinevere had more experience than the Ravenclaws, but it seemed the Claws had more ferocity. She smiled at both of them. "A'm Beatrice. Beatrice Langstreth. Hopeful duellist."

Perhaps Avery was blissfully and completely unaware of the glowering boy, and perhaps he wasn’t. It was hard to tell if he had noted the turning head of the boy close to him, his only reaction being a small smile that tugged at the corner of his mouth. He was here to watch the duel but he wasn’t here to watch, from his perspective, a losing duel. Avery wasn’t one to often be so boisterous, much preferring the quiet life; but if the Vipers couldn’t pull it out of the bag on their own, perhaps his support would stir them on. At the very least, he was living in the heads of the other spectators’ heads, rent free; confirmed by Beatrice’s introduction.

He paused his introduction after she asked he question and spoke to the other boy, making his smile grow a little more at that. Avery’s dark eyes were a stark comparison to his pale skin, and they watched Beatrice like a wolf when she spoke of her aspirations. “I don’t know her, no.” he gave, not yet eager to reveal his name if he could help it.

Then, his eyes shifted to Guin and back to Beatrice and Ashley. “You’re right though, she sure seems the anchor to this play. - But who’s to say the birds didn’t get lucky…” He smirked playfully, now turning his head to the pair properly. “Avery Leveret. Aspiring duellist.” Avery spoke his title with confidence, but it was his name that came out a bit funny; almost as though he had attempted to say it in such a manner that one might not catch it amidst the beating rhythm of the room; which was alive with the sound of slung spells, incantations and blasts.

“Hui-Ming certainly has a reputation, perhaps I’ve judged her too harsh.” He remarked, mostly to himself. “You are?” He said to Ashley with a careful smile.
