Common Ground (PV Rita Su)

⠀⠀It's a chilly morning, things look a little too soft at its edges, the sun is shining in a way that he yearns for. It feels sleepy, uncertain of whether he was awake or dreaming. Such as the state he was in, yet Reid picks himself up after a night of reading. He leaves the words he memorized at the doorstep and observes the passing world. No classes today, so there was time to muck about for the time being.
⠀⠀Yet things go into focus when he spots a familiar sight. Not often did the badger strike conversation, but he felt that he ought to at least interact to some degree with the Quidditch team. Many of the members were unknown to him. Kovacs raises a hand to politely hail her attention and comes over to meet her halfway. Enough games passed by his gaze to know her position, which made this conversation all the more engaging to him. ' Just wanted to say, nice work in the last game. Really good teamwork on your lot's end. '
⠀⠀As someone who played beater heavily, Reid paid a close attention to the team's. It was less on judgement and more so to see what they were capable of doing alone and together. He learned how vital it was to work with other teammates, especially in the match of Hogwarts vs. Durmstrang. Seeing teammates hit the ground so quick was truly an eye opening experience to worry more than just being able to hit a bludger at the enemy.
⠀⠀That win in the end was quick work between him, Serena, and the remainder of the team. But to see the members function as it was now, it was still good to see that the badgers were still as good as they were in terms of synergy. Plus the new years certainly added quite some life into the whole affair.

It was finally a Saturday morning, Feb 4th, and it had been a really busy week for Rita. The Second-Year lessons had gradually become tougher, and the Second Year Hufflepuff with short straight black hair had to work hard both in class and after class to keep her E-average grade, as well as spending a lot of time preparing for the winter Quidditch match tomorrow against the snakes, so the black-haired Hufflepuff first-string beater had been under a lot of stress recently. She figured out since it was Saturday, she should really take some time to reduce her stress, and at least for Rita, what was the better way to take a stroll in the courtyard and maybe find someone to have a casual chat.
As the Hufflepuff beater with short straight black hair and a pair of yellow glasses start down beside the big fountain to just chill out and relieve her stress in the weekdays due to schoolwork and Quidditch Training, Rita noticed someone coming up to her. A boy she had never seen before and seemingly a few years older than her, with short curly black hair, had probably recognized her from the Quidditch team and decided to come up to the first-string beater for a talk, congratulating her for winning the last game.
"Well, thank you for your nice words, it was the whole team`s effort. I was knocked down by a bludger in the first round, so I actually did not contribute much to the win to be honest. By it was nice playing in an actual match and bringing Hufflepuff a huge Quidditch win. By the way, my name is Rita Su, Second Year Hufflepuff, first-string beater. And your name is? I doubt I`ve ever seen you before." The Hufflepuff replied and examined the older boy with her dark-brown eyes. "Look like he does not seem to be a threat, maybe a new friend? Let`s see how our interactions go." The Second Year Hufflepuff beater thought as she waited for the other boy to respond.

⠀⠀Reid nods slowly to her response, a badger as humble as the next. The sixth year was a bit of the opposite when he was in his first year or so, but experience knocked him down a few pegs. The name is noted, left as a memo to associate a face to a name. ' Reid Kovacs, sixth year, not in any sport. At least not anymore. ' He juggled the idea of coming back to Quidditch a few times, but circumstances in his personal life couldn't really allow him to do so. The Fosgates certainly wanted him to, but he didn't think that he'd be able to really commit. He was still wanted to take on magic, spend the last of his two years getting good at it. Since having returned to Hogwarts after a brief stint in Birmingham, he went full speed into magic.
⠀⠀But above all else, he missed Quidditch. Spectating was a way for him to stay close to his roots, it's where he expelled that feeling of being left out. Hogwarts is a school for magic, but to see there be a place for witches or wizards who didn't necessarily fit the mold was fantastic to him. No amount of magic could supplement the skill and power necessary in Quidditch, that came straight from the person.

The boy then nodded at Rita`s responses, and also introduced himself as Reid Kovacs, a sixth year, which was quite close to graduation. "Reid also said he was not in any sport, at least anymore, so that means he used to be in sports? Maybe he just stepped down from the team to focus more on his studies? I suppose the lessons in sixth year is pretty hard since they have the extremely difficult NEWTs coming up on their seventh year before graduation." The Second Year Hufflepuff with short straight black hair thought.
"Oh, nice to meet you, Reid. Your name sounds quite nice."The Second Year Hufflepuff replied to the older boy with a friendly smile, "So, you used to be in sports? Are you considering to rejoin the sports team? Or you just want to focus more on your studies, since I suppose the schoolwork in sixth year are quite tough with the NEWTs coming up next year before you graduate."
"Speaking of graduation, may I ask what you plan to do after you graduate from Hogwarts? I am thinking about a Quidditch related career, or something related to magical creatures and plants to be honest, since I am passionate about those things. Although there is still 5 years before I graduate, it never hurts to have some big dreams about the future, and maybe you can give me some advice as a senior student, but you don`t have to if you prefer not to. Sorry I am talking too much again, I have to admit I am just a loud and talkative kid, hopefully you don`t mind." After Rita finished her speech, the black-haired second year giggled about herself talking too much again, and waited for the older boy Reid to respond to her. hopefully, Reid would not mind his enthusiastic young housemate talking too much.

⠀⠀That was quite an inquiry to tackle; he looked befuddled for a split second. Reid offers an apologetic smile and clears his throat. ' So, let's see. ' His hands slip into his pockets as he tries to tackle all of the information she had placed upon him. It was certainly a lot, but he didn't want to shame her for being curious. ' No, I don't really wish to rejoin the Quidditch team. We had won against Durmstrang and had gone undefeated in the season, I think I ended it on a good note. '
⠀⠀An airy laugh bounces off from the wall, gentle and a little weary in the way he spoke. It was clear that he missed it, but circumstances are circumstances. Reid gently tutted his shoe against the cobbled pavement as he addressed the rest. ' But I genuinely haven't figured out what I'd want to do, I think I have an idea, but I have to see if I can reach that. As for any advice, well I think the best one is . . . '
⠀⠀Cold air fills his lungs, a deep inhale for a vain attempt to stall time. It leaves him all the same, like a heaval of something off his shoulders. ' Don't get too caught up in the drama of others and don't obsess over one thing. I was a fanatic when it came to Quidditch that I neglected my studies. ' His voice is calm, carrying some sense of apprehension. It's if he didn't feel that his advice held much weight. Yet he gives it anyway; ' But also, do keep in touch with friends, they're nice to have. ' Reid had friends, but he grew distant from them as he grew older. It was now a painful crawl back to try and scrounge up his connections. Reid turns the table onto her, gently gesturing to her in a polite manner.
' You must have an idea of what you want to do, you seem like the type. '

Rita nodded when Reid explained the reason his did not want to rejoin the Quidditch team and offered some advice to the Second Year Hufflepuff first-string beater. "I think his reason and advice makes so much sense. I really wanna get to know Reid better. Do him have some other hobbies besides Quidditch? Maybe we have some other common interests besides Quidditch, and we can do some other interesting things together!"
"Oh, your team has defeated Durmstrang? I suppose that is a really strong team, since they even the "strong" in their name! So, congrats on winning against that team!" The Second Year Hufflepuff beater finally replied, "I think you still one year to think out about your career, so there is definitely no rush. I just wish you can choose something you are really into."
"By the way, thank you for advice! I also put a lot of effort into my studies besides Quidditch and other activities, so you don`t have to worry about that. I know it is hard to balance out the schoolwork and social life, say, Quidditch and other activities at school, but I am trying my best." The Hufflepuff beater continued to speak, "As for friends, I will try to maintain a good relationship with my existing friends, besides trying to make new friends. Maybe the two of us can be friends as well! By the way, do you have any other hobbies and interests besides Quidditch? I`m wondering if we have anything else in common besides Quidditch." After her speech, the Second Year Hufflepuff beater turned to her older housemate named Reid with a friendly smile on her smile, and waited for the sixth-year boy with short curly black hair to respond.
