CL BROOM RACING - RAVENCLAW vs SLYTHERIN - WINTER 2023

Here she was, about to play another game in front of all peers at Hogwarts. This time? She wasn't mounting a broom like everyone else... Oh no. She was mounting a pine tree. Her broom, the Pine Chopper, was one that she was shocked to be given. When looking at it, one could think it was slow. But after some dedicated practices, she was able to maneuver around with the unique broom. Bloom jumped up and began to fly around the stadium, making her way to the starting line. Unlike the last game where she came in last, Bloom knew she'll work hard to be first.

February weather was...brutal. This was the first race Ari would he flying in with actively falling snow. The bitter cold wind hit his face through his hair, turning his pale skin even more pale. But he was bundled up in black from head to toe, ready to fight the elements.

In the year that had passed since Ari became a captain, this would be the first where Aurora Ranvier would not be his leading partner in crime. She had departed to handle other personal affairs, and now there was a new captain, another second year named Bubba. Ari had seen him around before, but never really interacted with him. But his fellow racers were the same lot of fierce racing birds he'd grown to love dearly.

"We've got some tougher things to fly through today," He shoves his hands in his pockets and tells his teammates. "But we're strong. We can handle this. Don't let what happened last time get you down. That was a lot tougher than what we have to go through today."

He gave everyone a gloved fist bump with his trademark smile of encouragement.

"Alright. Let's send these snakes back to their pit."

As per usual Hunter offered glass vials of water to two of his teammates. He always claimed they were potions meant to boost their power, but all they were was water. A sort of pseudo-potion that would subconsciously boost their confidence and will to keep going. Also, it was a rather refreshing way to start a match. The only issue is it could be seen as rather sketchy by some, especially those who didn't trust Hunter for various decent reasons.

Afterward, he held tightly onto his moon trimmer in his right hand and held his wand in his left. He looked closely at his wand, a look of resentment overcame him as all the memories of his wand failing him during his previous two races had occurred. The wand had failed about 75% of the time, either hindering Hunter's advances or straight out knocking him from the sky and leaving him to burn in acid. He was tempted to snap the damn thing last race, but he luckily stopped himself by only a small amount of fear of what would happen next if he did.

The boy sealed the wand back into its strap, but this time he had something else to rely on. The only thing Hunter was good for and could trust was a potion. He took the vial of Murtlap Essence out from his uniform, tapping at it slightly to make sure no coagulation had occurred. He swirled the vial, turning his head towards his new captain. Perhaps taunting or just curious as to what thoughts were going through Bubba's head. Trust was very thin between Hunter and everyone on this track. Well almost everyone. As Hunter turned himself away, he did give a smile towards his cousin Vale who was most likely itching for a re-match. Shouting towards her:"Bahati nzuri!"¹

¹"Good Luck!"

This was not how Bubba had ever dreamed his first Broom Race would go. Rather than riding in it he was to cheer his team on from the sidelines. This was Bubba's first race as Co-Captain of the Ravenclaw team, he'd certainly much rather be racing but at least he was involved with the team and was hopeful he could help get them over the line to a win.

As Bubba listened to Ari's pep talk he thought of some words of his own. He looked from Bloom to Harper, to Ari, to Clair, and finally to Hunter (ugh, Hunter, so gross). He thought he had a good team standing around him and was reasonably confident of a positive result.

He didn't have long to think before Ari was done his pep talk and it was Bubba's turn. As he acted Ari's fist bump and exchanged some of his own with his teammates he said, "Remember, just like we practiced guys, worry about being precise, hitting your marks, and take the time to line your shots up if you have to take them."

As they started to mount he smiled and added, "Now let's fuck 'em up." He turned to head to the stands before walking over to Hunter and adding, "Try to hit something this time, would you." And with that, he turned and headed towards the stands. He'd offer what wisdom he could through the match.

----Vale made an exaggerated yawn as she made it to the starting line for the race. Another race with the Ravenclaws. She seemed unamused, whether it was due to actual exhaustion, or the adrenaline from broom racing was starting to bore her slightly, is to anyone's guess.

Her mood would immediately change to a familiar voice, twisting her head immediately to see her Ravenclaw cousin. Her amber eyes lit up and she violently waved a free arm. "Hunter! How woeful it is to see you! Tupigane hadi kufa!" Vale made her signature crackle, moving up to the starting line and rubbing her hands together.

Wyatt had been here before. It was his something'th game on the Slytherin broom racing team and the nerves that used to come with the start of each race no longer plagued him. What was the worst that could happen? He could die? It hadn't happened yet, but he had been knocked out a fair share of times, enough to know that there were worse feelings. He'd gotten through it, and he would again. Just this time, he hoped he'd win in the process. After a brief, slightly menacing glance towards the Ravenclaws, Wyatt readied himself on his silver arrow.

Two tightly braided plaits sat under a wooly, deep-green headband wrapped around June’s head. It was cold out, the winds were sure to bring a chill to any racer’s extremities.
With a nose that was already rosy, June looked around at her teammates. Honestly, after spending the afternoon after their last race in the hospital wing together, the mish-mosh of snakes felt a little more like a real team. A winning team, June thought to herself with a smirk.
