Bridget had moderated for a Junior League match last stage, and those were always interesting to see the up-and-coming stars of the sport as they slowly shaped into experienced duellists. But they were limited in the spells they had access to, frequently resorting to the same one or two for efficiency, and that was why Bridget was especially excited for this Senior League duel. It was a chance to see seasoned duellists in action, weaving advanced magic with the basics they'd been honing for years, and also to scout out competition she might face in the future.
"Can I please have Phaedra Stavrou, Dealla Prince, Meenauh Silmataurea, and Galton Lansdale come to the stage?" This would be a fun duel indeed. Phaedra stood as one of the oldest duellists in the club, nearly six years of schooling and countless spells under her belt. And Dealla had been the Ravenclaw captain for a long time, a position she certainly had the duelling know-how for. They were an intimidating team, to be sure.
And Meenauh and Galton were perhaps the duo. Anyone who'd watched Hogwarts duelling for any considerable amount of time had surely seen them on stage together, and it was clear they made an excellent team. They even had their own alliterative titles, which the Ravenclaws did not, and some might count that as point already in Gryffindor's favor. Did that actually have any impact on the outcome? Well, probably not, but the evidenced camaraderie and encouragement would.
"You know the rules," Bridget said simply, because most of them had been captains and all of them had been in plenty of these matches before. "Let's see a good, clean duel. Best of luck." And with that, she took her spot on the side, made sure everyone was ready, and started the timer. "Begin!"

Ravenclaw vs Gryffindor: Match 11

Oh, she loved the smell of burnt wand wood in the morning. The whole duelling hall was already heated up by all the duels, as if the wands were working at the maximum of the potential and capacity.
What else could she wish but the iconic duo of The Mighty and The Glorious to team up again in the first duel of the year 2023? Yes, they could wish a win. They were really close last time and Delilah was indeed a duelling beast, especially with the immense help from Eun-ji. This time it seemed to be even 'worse'! First, there was Phaedra — even the name was already enough to gulp from what was coming. And then — Dealla, who already demonstrated her polished duelling skills exactly one year ago, when Meenauh had just come back to the school.
They were prepared, too. They practised as if they would have to face the devil himself. So with all the nice spells and tricks in their pockets, she felt even more confident than in their previous duel (no).
Once she took her place at the stage, as usual, she nodded to Galton silently. And then waited for Phaedra and Dealla, each in their turn, to meet her glance and nodded towards them as a greeting and wishing good luck. It was clear, so no words were required.
She just wished Dealla was still failing to master the splitting of spells.

MEENAUH THE MIGHTY AND GALTON THE GLORIOUS WERE BACK. His excitement could not have been higher. As he made his way to the piste he felt the weight of the match before him in full, crushing force. And how he reveled in it. Like a cache of candy hidden in a pocket of his robe, the heavy expectations only acted as comfort. This would be a good duel.
Climbing onto the sleek wooden piste he took final stock of the situation. Phaedra And Dealla. A truly murderous bunch of Ravens. And Might and Glory stood across from them. He would give a wave to the duo before turning to their moderator - Bridget - and giving another wave.
He took his positions and returned Meenauh’s nod. Drawing his wand he would take a deep breath. Starting a dialog with the sentient rascal could be a double edged sword; risking its interest turning to annoyance could be fatal if he’d learned anything. But ignoring Mr. Wand could be just as bad. He’d dip his toes in, leaving Mr. Wand to their own devices- thinking he was past negotiations with it - had sealed in his loss last match.
Hello old friend and hello old partner.

Ravenclaw vs Gryffindor: Match 11

Dee's shoulders were tense with excitement as she hopped up onto the stage. She winked at Meenauh, waved at Galton, and gave Bridget a cheery grin. Without exaggerating, Dealla had been looking forward to this day for... well, pretty much exactly two years now, ever since she had been the referee for one of Meenauh and Galton's duel back in her second year at Hogwarts. That duel had left a lasting impression; between the two of them, the Gryffindors had made very quick work of their opponents, and they had made it look easy.
Dee had left the duelling room that day with three lasting impressions: First, she wanted to learn how to split spells like Galton had. Second, a tremendous amount of respect for both of these duellists. And third, she wanted to duel them at some point.
She'd gotten a first taste of the last point a year ago, when she had gotten the chance to face Meenauh in a practice duel, and she'd managed to hold her own with ease. But that had been a year ago, and a lot could change in a year.
On the other hand, she wasn't alone today. She'd share the stage with Phaedra, arguably one of the very best duellists Hogwarts had to offer. They'd teamed up before, and their duel had been very one-sided and ended when the other team had forfeited. Today might not be the same, but Dee could say with every ounce of excessive confidence in her fourteen year old body that they could - would - win this. But ah, the way there would be fun.
Hair tied back safely, wand drawn, Dee took a deep breath. The excitement thrummed through her body, and she couldn't keep it from spilling out in a grin that she directed at Phaedra. "I know you beat Galton once before, so I'll just rely on you to do it again, eh?"

Phaedra was noticeably pensive as she walked the piste, seemingly having taken great interest in a blemish upon her shoe. With furrowed brows, she flexed her toes to further scrutinise the mark in the lighting; its irregular edges, whatever it was, drawing forth an agitated crinkle of her nose.
Whether through normal wear and tear or some other damage, the glaring imperfection was a most terrible sign following defeat. Phaedra did not consider herself superstitious, but wished that she had polished beforehand, if only for the peace of mind. And slept a little longer too—poring enviously over the standings would not change their results, nor provide her a much needed humbling.
Dealla was at her side, at least. Their first duel together was a strange one, but it had ended with an agreement to teach spell-splitting. After withdrawing her silver lime wand from a pocket, Phaedra lifted her head to her partner’s voice. “…Hm. Then perhaps I’ll leave a piece of him for you.” A joke despite her current sentiments. She didn’t want to leave the girl hanging. Although never having faced Meenauh before, there was hope that Galton would not be as tough as the first go.Doing as strategized (x)

From the moment Bridget signalled the duel to start, all four duellists sprang into action. And not just basic Flipendoes and the like, but shows of truly impressive magic.
Meenauh threw up a shield. She was the only one in this duel without the ability to spread her spells, which among the average person just meant she was average, but here put her at an immediate disadvantage. But blocking some of the attacks, perhaps even using Ravenclaw's own casts against them, could be a solid start.
It would only be half effective. Dee's spell, a strong jet of water, simply splashed down to the floor at Meenauh's feet, but Phaedra's cut straight through the spell. Such a thing wasn't really what you were anticipating when you cast Protego, and so Meenauh didn't stand much of a chance.
Her eyes would swell up, as would Galton's; neither of them had escaped the ruthless accuracy of Phaedra's cast. She was reputed as one of the best duellists at Hogwarts for good reason.
Dee would face the most disappointment this round, her spell ineffective against Meenauh's shield and Galton's speed, but it was only the first round. Plenty of time left to make her mark.
That would be a harder task, though, after Galton was done with the duelling stage. He shrouded it in thick fog, as was pretty standard for his duels, and now no one, Bridget included, could see anything very well.

Ravenclaw vs Gryffindor: Match 11

The problem with Phaedra was that it was Phaedra. Her wand worked like a sword — cutting everything on its way.
Meenauh knew that Protego could fail to block a spell, but as it never happened before, she was really sceptic about this. So as the quickly raised shield blocked the stream of water from Dealla, Phaedra's spell stung through it and in the instant her eyes started to hurt. What a nasty spell, she thought, and she could barely see through it. This was unexpected, especially after Galton's fog started to flow into the scene. Whatever she'd be casting now would have a real difficulty to reach its aim.

It was strange - it had been a very long time since his own eyes had thrown of his sense of direction. He’d grown so accustom to living in the discomfort, the hazy, the dark, that he’d almost forgotten what it was like. As the initial sting wore off, and the swelling began his heart skipped a beat. Was it fear?
No, it was excitement. It was pure adrenaline rushing into the teens system as his body activated it’s primitive fight or flight instincts. A base instinct that could turn to advantage if he only took hold of the reigns. His grin would widen into a smile, now hidden to all in a blanket of fog.

Ravenclaw vs Gryffindor: Match 11

Dee gave her partner a grin. "Well, if you insist." There was no reaction to Phaedra's odd mood, she didn't even notice; reading people was not her strong suit, and Phaedra was always kind of serious and poised and honestly annoyingly perfect. Why would today be any different?
Perhaps it was the bloated confidence that originated from her recent streak of won duels, but when the match finally began, it didn't go too well. That was, for Dee, at least. Phaedra, of course, not only managed to hit Galton but at the same time also performed the near impossible feat of breaking through the shield that Meenauh had conjured. Meanwhile, Dee missed, and the other part of her spell splashed uselessly against Meenauh's defenses. What was the point in successfully splitting spells - which she had wanted for a long time and worked hard on, to no small part due to and with the help of Phaedra herself - if you could not actually land the hits?
Still, she was glad that Phaedra had been more successful than herself when the stage started filling with fog so thick you could likely have cut it with a knife, turning friend and foes and referee into nothing more than vague shapes that may as well have been imagination. "Son of a flobberworm!" Dee cursed. This was annoying.

Phaedra knew Conjunctivitis to be one nasty spell. Fueled by pinpoint precision, the curse sliced through Meenauh’s defenses like a knife to butter; a rare feat against the countless shields she’d faced. On Galton’s end, the magically-induced rhinitis too took hold, its advantages to Ravenclaw all but quickly nulled by fog. Heavier than normal at that. Eyes narrowing in search of human figures, Phaedra prepared to lose her wand at any second. That was usually how this sort of tactic played out.Doing as strategized (x)
