I actually wanted Dave to be a Ravenclaw but then he got sorted into Hufflepuff. But I had to rewrite his entire background and personality when he got into Gryffindor.
I could have made it work for any house but Gryffindor.
Although it was based mainly on Slytherin or Ravenclaw due to how I wrote it.
Hufflepuff I could have made work by just tweaking a few things.
But Slytherin or Ravenclaw worked 100%.
Gryffindor was the only one that didn't work at all based off what I came up with.
Soooo I couldn't even tweak things.
I specifically wrote Kim in a Ravenclaw way, with Ravenclaw traits and personality.
But his parents were both Slytherin and wanted him to go into Slytherin.
When he got into Gryffindor, it just didn't work.
So I rewrote his parents, Kim's traits and personality and then it worked.
But yeah, I didn't intend for Kim to turn out this way.
He actually was going to turn out into a combination of Eun-ji, Hanako and Simon.
But after being sorted into Gryffindor and having to change everything about him, Kim ended up way different. I didn't plan for anything to happen for him that ended up happening for him.
this is all to say that guys, you don't have to drive yourself mad trying to change everything. as creative writers you can always make it work. you don't have to fit a certain stereotype to be in a house. a house's main traits don't define your character as a person.

I expected Lucia to get Slytherin! When she got Hufflepuff though I didn't really change her - she just sort of evolved along those lines. In hindsight I have no idea how I expected her to get Slytherin since she has very little ambition beyond a vague desire for 'true love' xD I guess that's the beauty of the Sorting Hat though! ICly, it might not put you where you want or expect to go, or even where you feel most at home at first, but being in a certain house will bring out certain traits and eventually it'll make sense all along

Fr. I wanted Dave to be a studious Ravenclaw grows up to be a really good duelist. I even picked the answers I thought a Ravenclaw would pick. But then I got sorted into Hufflepuff and I turned Dave from a studious kid that never gets anything below an O (IC’ly) to a relaxed, light-hearted kid that doesn’t give a really crap about anything. Except dueling apparently. Currently, his IC grade average is an E but in his third year I’m planning to drop that to an A with a few P’s and E’s sprinkled in.
