Broken Broomshaft. I wish I'd picked an actual ability that has to do with general/basics not a quidditch-specific one, which I probably can't use at all IC unless I somehow magically get lucky. It seems like a rare thing to happen. For some reason when I chose it at the time I was new and thought I could use it all the time. But such is not the case! I know now but didn't back then.

i'd like to comment a bit on this perspective. my character has a lot of slytherin traits, despite being in gryffindor. when i created regina i wrote her as a snake house character, like you with kim. however, when i was sorted into gryffindor, i didn't think changing my character entirely to fit a certain stereotype was a good idea. it would destroy my character's originality and the beauty of 'being different than others'. i gave regina a little bit more gryffindor traits to make it work. and it did, perfectly. regina somehow still manages to be a gryffindor despite having a slytherin personality and ideals. she's a complex character and as her writer i am very proud.
this is all to say that guys, you don't have to drive yourself mad trying to change everything. as creative writers you can always make it work. you don't have to fit a certain stereotype to be in a house. a house's main traits don't define your character as a person.

Yes, you don't HAVE to change your character's entire background/history/personality etc... because most of the time it's just personality and traits. But with Kim it was different. There was a specific reason why he had to be Slytherin or Ravenclaw (or Hufflepuff). It would not have worked in Gryffindor, no matter what I did if I kept the same background/history. So that's why Kim had to be changed drastically but for most people even if you have specific traits and personality that would fit in a different house, you can still work that into your current house. Kim's case was different though, it wasn't just because of traits and personality, it was that plus other reasons regarding his background. As he is now, Kim still has Slytherin, Ravenclaw and Gryffindor traits combined. But his family background changed because it had to. For certain other reasons.
