Regina Miller wrote: 16 Jan 2023, 19:42i'd like to comment a bit on this perspective. my character has a lot of slytherin traits, despite being in gryffindor. when i created regina i wrote her as a snake house character, like you with kim. however, when i was sorted into gryffindor, i didn't think changing my character entirely to fit a certain stereotype was a good idea. it would destroy my character's originality and the beauty of 'being different than others'. i gave regina a little bit more gryffindor traits to make it work. and it did, perfectly. regina somehow still manages to be a gryffindor despite having a slytherin personality and ideals. she's a complex character and as her writer i am very proud.Kim Sato wrote: 16 Jan 2023, 18:40 Heh, Kim was my first character on the site.
But I had to rewrite his entire background and personality when he got into Gryffindor.
I could have made it work for any house but Gryffindor.
Although it was based mainly on Slytherin or Ravenclaw due to how I wrote it.
Hufflepuff I could have made work by just tweaking a few things.
But Slytherin or Ravenclaw worked 100%.
Gryffindor was the only one that didn't work at all based off what I came up with.
Soooo I couldn't even tweak things.
I specifically wrote Kim in a Ravenclaw way, with Ravenclaw traits and personality.
But his parents were both Slytherin and wanted him to go into Slytherin.
When he got into Gryffindor, it just didn't work.
So I rewrote his parents, Kim's traits and personality and then it worked.
But yeah, I didn't intend for Kim to turn out this way.
He actually was going to turn out into a combination of Eun-ji, Hanako and Simon.
But after being sorted into Gryffindor and having to change everything about him, Kim ended up way different. I didn't plan for anything to happen for him that ended up happening for him.
this is all to say that guys, you don't have to drive yourself mad trying to change everything. as creative writers you can always make it work. you don't have to fit a certain stereotype to be in a house. a house's main traits don't define your character as a person.
i completely agree with you! you don’t have to completely change your character’s personality just because they didn’t get into the house you originally wanted them to get into.
plus, it allows for a great plot & character development opportunities as your character has to come to terms with being sorted into a house they didn’t want to get sorted into.

I played Ro's personality so that she would be a Hufflepuff, but some extent, she kinda is a Slytherin

and also, the joy of being a creative writer is the ability to adapt to any situation. you can create anything from scratch or even create new things from changes you don't like without having to redesign an entire character. this is just me personally as a writer, i can't speak for everybody, but i'm very flexible and can turn anything into a good story.

But....OOC, I am a Slytherin probably - or Raven, don't know. All the tests I do usually land me on Slytherin. But I was fine with ANY house - but not Gryffindor. I do not know why - so Eliza is now a very shy, model student that fights against steortypes and er....applied to speak Parseltongue. I am SOO not getting that thingy approved..........

OOC I’m a Ravenclaw/ Griffindor, and the tested as both. I originally wrote Bailey as a super nerdy and introverted Ravenclaw, not truly understanding the RPG system. Now I understand it much better, and I honestly am so grateful that she is where she is, has grown into who she is, etc.
