The McGarry-Selwyn Peace Conference
Bubba wasn't sure what to say when June told him that all people would know was that Maggie slapped him out of nowhere. As he recalled it Maggie had been quite loud when she told him what he'd done and he was fairly certain everyone there had heard. And a year at Hogwarts had told him enough about students to know that gossip spread like wildfire. That being said, she was probably right, more embarrassing things had happened yesterday, but that meant nothing to him. All he knew was that he was super embarrassed and wanted nothing to do with people right now. Still, at least he had managed to start making things right with June. That was the only redeeming value of this accursed 24-hour period. And he was able to take some solace in the fact June had only told Maggie what had happened.
As she talked he didn't say anything, he just took everything in. As she finished talking he allowed them to slip into silence for a couple of minutes. He supposed things had started so badly between them and gotten so much worse from his perspective that it wasn't uncomfortable. It was just there, between them, and actually felt ok. He supposed it was because she already knew the worst thing about him. And he didn't care if she judged him or what she thought of him. Well, he did care, the truth was his mind of a maze of contradictions at the moment and he was just trying to process the thoughts he was having. In front of him on the ground, between the rows, was an old piece of parchment. Absentmindedly, as he kept thinking about what had happened and what June had said, he folded the parchment into a rudimentary paper airplane. She was the one to break the silence, agreeing that it was a nice place to chill before observing, as he just had, that they'd started poorly.
Before he spoke, he stood up and threw the airplane with the wind behind it. The wind picked it up and it started to carry across the stadium. Not bad for a ratty old piece of parchment. He watched it for a few seconds before he walked over and sat down next to Kalle so that Kalle was separating him and June. "Yeah, I supposed you're right about last night, it was just tough. I was gonna spend the day thinking but truth be told, I'm glad you came up, I think you managed to get me thinking a bit clearer." His voice was actually normal for the first time in the conversation.
He gave a sad little laugh as he thought about how they'd started. "I don't know, I think I'm the one that started off terribly... I really fucked that up didn't I?" Still, maybe it was time to try again, he turned towards her and offered his hand, "How about we try again? Bubba McGarry."

The saying goes that silence is golden, but gold seemed much more desirable than the silence that hung in the air between the two rising second years. It was strange; June had come here seeking quiet, and yet now here it was, uncomfortable and undesirable.
Bubba chose to fill the silence by folding paper into a triangular glider-like shape. June had no such luxury, as her only paper was inside the book in her lap, and she would rather face a dementor than willfully deface something from her library. She glanced around the concrete floor for something to fiddle with, finding only a small button that must have fallen off of someone's coat. June picked it up and placed it in her hand, taking out her wand with the other. "Wingardium Leviosa," she said as she swished and flicked her wand. The button took flight, gliding in the air as June directed it to weave around the path of Bubba's paper creation until it was too far for June to control anymore.
As the button fell to the ground, Bubba took a seat next to his cat. June tucked her hair behind her ear as he spoke. Perhaps she was glad she'd come up here as well. Perhaps.
"I really fucked that up didn't I?"
June nodded. "You did." Bubba extended his hand. The young Slytherin smiled, this was something she could do, that she had done before: start over. She took his hand, her grip firm. "Selwyn, June Selwyn. Pleasure to meet you."

At least the hatchet now seemed to be firmly buried and there was a possibility of a semi-normal relationship between them moving forward. Bubba was able to take some solace from that after 24 hours of hell. Still, it was still a hell of a way to get there. Bubba supposed he should be grateful he was able to walk back what he said, even if he hadn't known what he'd said to begin with.
Now, Bubba wasn't sure really where to go from here. Going from hated to making small talk in about five minutes seemed a bit jarring, and he was really lousy at small talk. Bubba stalled by looking out over the stadium. The sun had been shining brightly when they'd arrived but the wind had picked up and the clouds had rolled in. Also on queue to answer his prayers to end the awkward silence, the heavens opened up and the rain started to pour.
Bubba gave a wry laugh as he turned his head back to look at June. At the same time, Kalle, clearly startled by the rain, sprinted for cover with a loud meow. Bubba chuckled as his beloved cat fled from the elements, "Well, I guess we should follow Kalle," he said with a smile as he got up and started to head out with June.
